Thank you for this. I haven't done them yet but I was looking for something to lube my stabs without taking everything apart because my space bar is atrocious right now. So I thank you in advance because my keyboard is driving me insane.
Hi thank you for the video, really useful to know. Are you going to replace the keys at all? I'm considering buying this keyboard as need the arrows, page up and down etc and UK layout. There seems no other option aside from the Durgod k320?
Hi, the layout is tkl (tenkeyless) and there should be some other options. I think Logitech do one but very colourful gaming style. It's an excellent keyboard. I won't do anything else with this one as I have other keyboards coming that I will work on and modify. I highly recommend this one as a an everyday keyboard. I use it for my work everyday and will continue to do so after I have other custom boards.
@@keebface I've seen videos on the Durgod Hades, might try that one as it combines work and fun too. Sounds like gateron yellow would be good especially once lubed, I'd need to understand where to get pbt keycaps though... What other keyboards will you modify?
@@sgist7824 I'm just starting out. It seems at the moment you have to settle for American ANSI layout if you want a good selection. I have a Novelkeys NK65 I am building soon, and I have another hotswap board coming from Iqunix in China. Hotswap seems the best place to start if you want to lube or change switches without desoldering. After that I will start to build them properly. Durgod boards aren't hotswap unless specified on a specific model, so any proper mods or lubing need desoldering to remove the switches. Gateron yellow are a great choice it seems based on reviews. One of the best budget linear switches I think.
@@keebface Thank you, I think I need something like the Epomaker 68 as it's hotswappable and gives me the arrows plus page up and down... Do you know of any other ones? @@sgist7824 you can get the hades with PBT caps on amazon now, it will say black PBT or white PBT, they have the older models that are ABS still floating around though.
great modding , it's really hard to get this keyboard to sound amazing tho , there seems to be some rubbing on the traveling of the key , i can hear it in yours and i can definitely hear it and feel it in mine.
Hello. Not without desoldering the switches is the best answer I can give (with limited experience yet). The stabs are the plate mount type that unclip making the stabs themselve unclippable from the plate, but obviously the soldered switch between them prevents you from removing them.
@@keebface Wow, thank you for the super quick response! Didn't expect to hear so soon. I looked on reddit as well it sounded like soldering is the rule, vs the exception. Like, if it's not required, that's a big enough feature to be part of the actual marketing. But for just my just wanting to incorporate a different switch for the spacebar, seems like maybe more work than is desired. Thanks and great video, regardless!
@@bivensrk more and more keyboards are released with hotswap pcbs these days but as you say, it's always stated in the listings/marketing when they are hotswap.
Yeh spring ping is the switches not the keeb. The case is not too bad once you've opened it a few times. Plastic car trim levers or plastic bicycle tyre levers are the way forward.
Hey my M key and space started skipping a lot, anything I can do with this board to fix that? The plate seems to be glued in to the PCB so removing switches seems impossible.
A big difference. This much to be exact - ruclips.net/video/rtpe4NzuIdk/видео.html - there is also a premod sound test on my channel. I think there are pre and post sound tests in this video aren't there?
@@deltapi6880 nothing compared to lubing with Krytox. Much better than stock but not ideal. It will be my desolder and solder practice board so I will put some properly lubed switches in then. Nice keyboard though and I like having the option of stock Cherry blacks as I reckon they are a good switch.
Thank you for the video! I really like how your board turned out although I noticed that there is still a bit of ping from the springs after your mods. The ping is the main reason why I was looking to mod my own K320 with some dampening (probably won't use lube just yet). Do you think the ping will get any better on your own board over time or do you have any suggestions/ insights into how to get rid of most of the ping noise? I have brown switches myself. I was thinking of starting with installing felt inside the case because that's what I have and then seeing how it is after that. Thank you for your help. Jealous of your keyboard. 🤪
I was starting to use my own 2 days ago (with mx clear) and noticed the ping sound. I'm afraid the solution will be desoldering and lubing the spring directly with some thicker lube. Still hoping to find an easier way.
This is amazing and really inspires me to get down and dirty with my K320's (one with browns and one with blues). A quick question though.. at the 16:00 mark there seemed to be some high pitched pinging. Was that coming from the keyswitch itself? How would you address that? Keen to learn, thanks.
I can't make out the high pitch noise you mean. It would normally be string ping, but I can't here that at 16 mins. The tab key is a different sound as it's the largest keycap to not have a stabilizer. Maybe it's just the general pitch of the key press that you are hearing?
@@keebface Ah, ok maybe just my old ears, but I really thought I heard something pinging or reverbing in the split seconds following the 'F' button presses. I'd seen something similar with one of my Durgod's with Reds, but the ping was from the 'J','K' and 'L' keys. Again though - what an amazing job. Definitely going to try something like this but will be nervous about the silicone pour! What kind of tape did you use to protect the USB controller PCB? I was thinking of plumbers tape or something like that?
@@_indrid_cold_ I just used white electrical tape. White generally tends to be the most adhesive and pliable for some reason. My ears aren't great so you could well be right and I could be getting some spring ping. Difficult to completely get rid of that without taking the switches apart. The springs need lubing either top to bottom or on the ends. Some oil will reach the bottom of the spring when top lubing, but you can't get to the top without removing and taking the switches apart as the stem will act like an umbrella.
Another tip is to add two o-rings per key to silence the thang that's heard when the key's depressed/bounced back up. But only add two to the keys that aren't affected from having two, then the problematic ones are left with a single o-ring.
for your first modding project, you chose one of the hardest keyboards to open i have ever seen and experienced, but great job on the modding!
that last screw turn to get the case to close was so satisfying, glad it worked out homie
This is a great video from start to finish. Thanks!
Wow! Thanks I appreciate that.
Man Durgod keyboards have so much ping sound it's insane.
not worth modding really
I was thinking about adding foam for dampening rather than silicon, would 1/4th in foam be too much?
