The controller is not bad! Loses Bluetooth connectivity to my phone which is literally inside it once or twice but that seemed to be just the terrible interference I get in my building. Most of the time it's great. Octopus is horrible. It's a wrapper that you have to re log into your gplay account in. You're right Genshin doesn't work. They seem to be detecting for bots and are finding the container as a bot. I doubt it will ever work again and I regret paying for the Octopus upgrade. For retro gaming it's great, though. Just wish Android joystick support were universal.
This review seals the deal for me - I have an old Huawei P10 that's got plenty of juice to play some of the more demanding games (upto PSP) and wanted to buy a controller to use it as an emulation console.
Fun fact. If you update the firmware from the android app, they have an option to swap the abxy layout from switch to Xbox, so the A button is on the bottom. Way better.
That was the first thing I've made after the last firmware update. I know that the design and layout was switch like but it just sucks and noone uses that 😂
I've had this for the past three months. Hate the placement of the screenshot button. Lots of accidental presses of it. Also needs foregrips for your palms for better comfort. Other than that, emulations have worked quite well. Way better than touchscreen alone.
It definitely took some time for me to adjust to holding it in a way that didn't become uncomfortable after 5 minutes. It still become uncomfortable after 20-30 minutes for me. I bought it because it was sleek, but definitely compromised comfort in the process. I have the same gripes with the Switch when it's not docked.
This is a really good controler but for thoes interested please keep in mind that the Power Pass-through Charging DOES NOT work with all Android Phones! I've had this and used it with my Samsung S20 FE and didn't get the Pass-through Charging. But strange enough my older Samsung A70 DID... This is the only fault I've found with this controler...
I loved my razr kishi for the first 6 months. After that the left side of the controller stopped responding. After looking into the issues it seems to be common due to the build. So I will be grapping this controller next.
1:18 There's also the fact that the Bluetooth version uses the traditional Xbox button layout while the updated version here still annoyingly uses the Nintendo button layout. Edit: Apparently, you can update the firmware of the updated version so that it uses the Xbox layout though I'm not sure of this.

It's funny that as of 2023, both Genshin and HK3rd still dont support gamepad on Android, but their newest game Star Rail does. It seems like implement controller support for older games aint their priority.
The usb male connection looks long enough to be able to leave a case on the phone to put it in but Id imagine that the case makes the phone too thick to pair up with the male usb connection.
One thing I'd like to add - I had to install the Gamesir app in order to change the controller from "Switch" mode to "Xbox" mode. The buttons were swapped and it was driving me crazy.
Slightly concerned it doesn't have a lip at the bottom to prevent phones from slipping out, however the rubber seems grippy enough. I'd probably go for the BT version to avoid wear on my usb c port, but also cause I like playing ds games in portrait orientation.
In regards to it not plugging in with a case on your phone. If you always use a case on your phone just take a box cutter to the rubber right beside the USB C port on the controller. After doing that my S21 fit with a fairly large case. I wouldn't expect a phone in a larger otterbox to fit but a phone in any silicon case won't have an issue.
What I'm waiting on is a USB C controller that is case friendly AND works with larger phones like the S21 Ultra. Is that a thing, yet? I see the S21, but I usually have a bigger phone.
What about a headphone Jack? Old those vendors should include a 3.5 mm. If you are on the go you don’t want to bother the people around you. Don’t say Wireless because audio input latency is an issue. At least in games like Bust a Groove for PS1.
There apparently is one pokemon game with huge file size that my brother literally could not play for his life. He immediately uninstalled the application after realizing it was not playable by just the touch screen; at least with his gaming capabilities. It was available to download at least when he found it; it might be taken down from the store, however I feel that might not be the case because the name of the application is so obscure.
It's worth mentioning that the button layout is the same as Nintendo controllers, which are inverse to the Xbox layout. While a lot of games have options to remap button, a lot don't. In most emulators you'll have to remap the keys for sure.
I like that it uses the Nintendo ABXY layout rather than the Xbox one. Does that cause any problems in games with built in controller support? I'd expect A to be confirm and B to be cancel.
Got this at 50% off from a free market. Gotta this controller is really good (despite the yuzu code part). It fits better for a thinner phone. My Aquos zero 2 fits perfectly. They keys are super responsive and nice. Not a fan of the switch-like colour of the joycon joint tho. I still think it is a bit pricey but it is a really nice controller. The key mapping feature is the main reason that I am buying it ❤️
Couple of suggestions: 1. Recessed analog sticks 2. A variety of sizes to match better with smaller phones (specifically used for retro gaming) 3. A couple of retro designs to choose from (NES, SNES,PSX style, etc)
So, Actually, for smaller phones, this thing is way better than something like the Razer Kishi. Using my Pixel 4a on the two of them, the Kishi isn't stable at all, while the GameSir X2 basically feels exactly the same as it does with bigger phones, but lighter due to the difference in phone weight. I don't agree with the recessed sticks (Would be more portable, sure, but those just aren't as good to use), but I do agree with the additional designs. Pure white isn't my favorite color in the world, and while I don't know if I would care about retro designs, I would like black or something.
it would be awsome if there is an app that can make virtual joystick onscreen that you can make actions and conditions so you dont need to buy controllers
I wonder if you could make a review on another mini pc called CHUWI Herobox and test some emulation. It’s pretty similar to the CHUWI Larkbox but there is some small changes with it. Big fan keep up the good work and great video👍🏻👍🏻
What about playing MAME emulation in portrait mode for old-school games (DKong, Pac Man, Frogger, etc.) that had portrait-style screens? On my RG351P I can play those horizontally adjusting the right-side controllers to behave as a left-controlled joystick and the buttons on the right. But in this the USB-C connection is on the left, so it doesn't seem like that can be done as most phones won't rotate the screen upside down in portrait mode. Could use the left-side controllers but a D-Pad would make for awkward buttons, esp. if multiple buttons have to be pressed together in some games.
I'd go with bluetooth. YES I understand lag. BUT I'm not playing anything but retro (mostly) platformers. The issue I have is 1) damage to the connector and or port. 2) if my phone is too thick or thin it will also put stress on both points of contact.
I haven't watched the video yet, so he may have said this already, but the type C plug on this does swivel up and down. With that said, if your phone is too thick it's just not going to work. My daughters Pixel 4A phone with case and popsocket won't fit even with the popsocket removed (but the connector for it still on). I would still be careful plugging and unplugging the phone from it though. I use it with my Galaxy S9 and it seems to fit fine, but that's a decently thin phone.
@@freezingCode I'm using a 4a with it, actually, and that official felt case or whatever it's called. It fits in, but I have to push a bit on the top to get it to sync in. Works fine after that.
@@ThunderDragonRandy There's not that noticeable of a lag. I've played sonic, mario and whatnot on my phones with crapier 2.1 tech than 4.0 or 5.0 BT. It's easier to forgive lag than a damaged USB C port.
It's not a matter of skimping. It's just a tough competition, as touch screen turning and aiming is miles better than controller, any controller (without aim assist and stuff like that). It's not mouse and keyboard, but you have precision that is otherwise hard to beat with a touchscreen.

I hope they release a version with a full Type C passthrough like the Backbone for the iphone. I want to use my DAC/AMP combos over using bluetooth for audio.
I just want a better controller that the saitake7006
@@Fleshlight_Reviewer The Bluetooth Saitake controller is more comfortable but we don't have a type C version and if we did I doubt it will have a full passthrough. Backbone may make one.
@@land_walker I was wondering if it's even possible to mod a usb c on it and use it with android
This would be perfect if there is a headphone jack in this like the N1 pro controller..
Yup. It's a big reason to avoid it, IMO.
You could pair this with either Nvidia or AMD's streaming direct from your PC to do the GPU leverage and chill on the couch.
Things that Gamesir X2 needs to have to become the best controller:
- Black color
- P2 port for headphones
- Windows support
As this controller doesn't use bluetooth, I'd find it more confortable to use bluetooth headphones.
@@swordlunge Bluetooth headphones usually have lag, which isnt great for gaming
@@GabrielLimau I only notice any audio lag when I use a Bluetooth controller at the same time as a Bluetooth headphone. Other than that, there's no noticeable lag for me, and even if there was, it is hardly as concerning as input lag.
Microsd slot
I want to use this as a plug in emulation device
Ordered the Bluetooth one via your link and it was free because I had a gift card on my account. Yay free toys!
*_Why is it the USB on the left side though???_*
Bought this back in January when it first came out. Zero issues. Have had a great time with it!
How is the deadzones?
This review seals the deal for me - I have an old Huawei P10 that's got plenty of juice to play some of the more demanding games (upto PSP) and wanted to buy a controller to use it as an emulation console.
If you play cod mobile , does it show in game that you have connected a controller? You usually get a little controller pad appear
Would like to see some support along the long side edge of the phone, I can see a lot of pressure being put on the usb socket
You can always get a second phone or use the phone that you have before you buy a new phone to replace it, to run your games in this.
Can I use the USBC on the gamepad to connect Minijack earphones??
This needs to be Tested.
i have the samsung glaxay s22 fe, would it work with this phone as well? :) im unable to find a clear answer online. thank you :)
I found this exact controller for $40. An absolute steal
Fun fact. If you update the firmware from the android app, they have an option to swap the abxy layout from switch to Xbox, so the A button is on the bottom. Way better.
Thank you! Was just about to ask about that. I hate the switch layout... I might just get this gamesir
That was the first thing I've made after the last firmware update. I know that the design and layout was switch like but it just sucks and noone uses that 😂
thanks 🙏
I've had this for the past three months. Hate the placement of the screenshot button. Lots of accidental presses of it. Also needs foregrips for your palms for better comfort. Other than that, emulations have worked quite well. Way better than touchscreen alone.
It definitely took some time for me to adjust to holding it in a way that didn't become uncomfortable after 5 minutes. It still become uncomfortable after 20-30 minutes for me. I bought it because it was sleek, but definitely compromised comfort in the process. I have the same gripes with the Switch when it's not docked.
Other fun fact. The the Bluetooth version also has a button to easily turn on any button as a turbo button.
What do u recommend with s20 FE
ive seen few of your videos from recommended but after this review with genshin impact you sir earned a subscriber
using this with note 9 and works perfect with alot of games and emulators
I loved my razr kishi for the first 6 months. After that the left side of the controller stopped responding. After looking into the issues it seems to be common due to the build. So I will be grapping this controller next.

There's also the fact that the Bluetooth version uses the traditional Xbox button layout while the updated version here still annoyingly uses the Nintendo button layout.
Edit: Apparently, you can update the firmware of the updated version so that it uses the Xbox layout though I'm not sure of this.
I'll confirm the firmware thing, I just did it after learning about it here. You can uninstall the app after if you don't need it as well.
Are there any controler-cons that work in a thick case? Like an otterbox? Thx.
connector being on the left seems odd to me
Exactly. It's like these companies are teasing us. Almost perfect design. Needs to come in all black as well
Connector is on the left side to put volume on the top.
@@duke45jp the bluetooth version is a dark gray.
@@charlestannehill7537 It really goes against the "standard" angle for landscape phones. A lot of phones feel awkward playing them in reverse landscape.
@@charlestannehill7537 Except a Galaxy S21 for example has the volume on the right side not left lol.. Depends on the phone but i guess that makes sense, but kinda doubt thats the reason.
Is tempted to get this controller... but really irked a bit that Genshin and Mihoyo's other game Honkai Impact doesn't support "Native"/"Official" Controller Support on Android. And is hoping that they add it in the near future.
Would get this in the future... when I have a Better "Gaming" Phone
It's funny that as of 2023, both Genshin and HK3rd still dont support gamepad on Android, but their newest game Star Rail does. It seems like implement controller support for older games aint their priority.
This controller makes me want to play games on my phone (which I never do)
Same
Just purchased today. Thanks for the review
have you seen anyone extend these successfully for tablets? would be nice to be able to use it with the ipad pro
Very cool, what about the thermals?
Really wish they would flip the button layout like on the bluetooth version.
I believe the new firmware update though the gamesir app will let you switch it to Xbox style buttons
Slightly concerned it doesn't have a lip at the bottom to prevent phones from slipping out, however the rubber seems grippy enough. I'd probably go for the BT version to avoid wear on my usb c port, but also cause I like playing ds games in portrait orientation.
When he slides it apart he makes it look really easy, it actually retracts to fit your phone nicely. No worries about it falling out
What about the headphones jack?
Hi ETA Prime, do you know if these type of controllers will work with raspberry pi 4 running retropi?
Do you have any recommendation for one-sided controller (just a trigger and an analog)?
In regards to it not plugging in with a case on your phone. If you always use a case on your phone just take a box cutter to the rubber right beside the USB C port on the controller. After doing that my S21 fit with a fairly large case. I wouldn't expect a phone in a larger otterbox to fit but a phone in any silicon case won't have an issue.
What I'm waiting on is a USB C controller that is case friendly AND works with larger phones like the S21 Ultra. Is that a thing, yet? I see the S21, but I usually have a bigger phone.
Depends on the case. A Note 10 Lite fits fine while in a somewhat slim case. No Otterboxes, of course.
Hi!
@ 08:52 What is that game?
It looks like GTA IV or V.
What about a headphone Jack? Old those vendors should include a 3.5 mm. If you are on the go you don’t want to bother the people around you. Don’t say Wireless because audio input latency is an issue. At least in games like Bust a Groove for PS1.
Problem with usb-c controllers is you can't mount the phone vertically; which would be useful for DS games
Uhhhh just change screen view to landscape in the emulator?
There apparently is one pokemon game with huge file size that my brother literally could not play for his life. He immediately uninstalled the application after realizing it was not playable by just the touch screen; at least with his gaming capabilities. It was available to download at least when he found it; it might be taken down from the store, however I feel that might not be the case because the name of the application is so obscure.
It's worth mentioning that the button layout is the same as Nintendo controllers, which are inverse to the Xbox layout. While a lot of games have options to remap button, a lot don't. In most emulators you'll have to remap the keys for sure.
thanks for that info, very useful
I like that it uses the Nintendo ABXY layout rather than the Xbox one. Does that cause any problems in games with built in controller support? I'd expect A to be confirm and B to be cancel.
Got this at 50% off from a free market. Gotta this controller is really good (despite the yuzu code part). It fits better for a thinner phone. My Aquos zero 2 fits perfectly.
They keys are super responsive and nice. Not a fan of the switch-like colour of the joycon joint tho. I still think it is a bit pricey but it is a really nice controller. The key mapping feature is the main reason that I am buying it ❤️
Not many review showing the flydigi apex 2.
How ETA would review it someday.
He have reviewed that gamepad. Sorry for bad english
Hi ETA PRIME i like your videos and allways Look at them :)
Couple of suggestions:
1. Recessed analog sticks
2. A variety of sizes to match better with smaller phones (specifically used for retro gaming)
Would love if they make a version that can fit a Kindle fire 10 tablet.
@freesf ftrefv it’s still Bluetooth. Really want USB C connection. But not a bad choice overall still
Detailed review and indepth information. Thank you, and you got a sub
Check out android addict.
Every question you haven't asked is already answered
I would love if these controller makers would make a 6 button pad. I want ABC and XYZ. Please.
LG V60 Thin Q owner here. It fits.
thats awesome. i already have a kishi, so im set for now.
it would be awsome if there is an app that can make virtual joystick onscreen that you can make actions and conditions so you dont need to buy controllers
I wonder if you could make a review on another mini pc called CHUWI Herobox and test some emulation. It’s pretty similar to the CHUWI Larkbox but there is some small changes with it. Big fan keep up the good work and great video👍🏻👍🏻
I wish you would show the dead zones 😫 that's the deal breaker for me
How bad is it? What is a good android controller without dead zones beside xbx/ps4 controller?
@Anthony Mendenhall I'm excited to buy it :D
good job gamesir with that app, razer Kishi lacks miles for on-screen mapping: /
ETA, for those who still prefer the dualshock controller layout, will you continue looking for those style controllers?
What about playing MAME emulation in portrait mode for old-school games (DKong, Pac Man, Frogger, etc.) that had portrait-style screens? On my RG351P I can play those horizontally adjusting the right-side controllers to behave as a left-controlled joystick and the buttons on the right. But in this the USB-C connection is on the left, so it doesn't seem like that can be done as most phones won't rotate the screen upside down in portrait mode. Could use the left-side controllers but a D-Pad would make for awkward buttons, esp. if multiple buttons have to be pressed together in some games.
Also any alternatives for Octopus??
Thanks, razer kishi is the one I need for portable use
Awesome video is always! Please do one with the Bluetooth version as a comparison.
can you use the usb c in to plug in headphones?
Nice, could you do a battle beaver vs Scuff video? In combination with some kind of bracket to hold your phone
Just ordered z fold 3, is this still the one to get, eta? Thanks, your video rock!
Input Lag + Platformers usually don't go well together.
@@ThunderDragonRandy There's not that noticeable of a lag. I've played sonic, mario and whatnot on my phones with crapier 2.1 tech than 4.0 or 5.0 BT. It's easier to forgive lag than a damaged USB C port.
how do the joysticks feel? i know alot of these controllers scimp out on the joysticks and they end up un-useable in fps games like cod and whatnot.
It's not a matter of skimping. It's just a tough competition, as touch screen turning and aiming is miles better than controller, any controller (without aim assist and stuff like that). It's not mouse and keyboard, but you have precision that is otherwise hard to beat with a touchscreen.
@@elirantuil5003 yeah you dont get what im asking.
when i use a dualshock 4 controller, or the xbox one controller with my android device. it feels the same as using said controllers with their respective consoles.
when using other generic android focused controllers, the juysticks feel like garbage. un-usable in FPS games. the gyrometers in those cheap controllers are trash.
so im asking if these controllers here use good gyrometers or bad gyrometers.
you can press the d-pads, or it doesn't have that buttom?
does the gamepad pass data through that USB-C port or is it only for charging? and does it enable fast charging?
