  • When it rains, you will be very happy and probably smiling as you pass everybody else - simply because you just have more grip on the road than an ordinary vehicle.
    It was raining quite heavily on our test drive, and rather than turn back, we decided to check out how the XV, built on Subaru's Global platform, its low centre-of-gravity due to the boxer engine arrangement, topped up by the Subaru All Wheel Drive system (SAWD) would fare.
    We were not disappointed - check out the video, and give it a like. If you haven't subscribed, do click on the SUBSCRIBE button, so that we can continue to give you exciting and educational content like this.

    A man is like this uncle drive the car with heart of steal.
    Watch 11.20 - 11.50 of the video as he hit third gear with paddle shift(even that hard to notice) and give room and respect to a motocylist. And he press the pedal with ease towards 140km/h and take the curves on a wet surface. Wow, manly. Even Jeremy Clackson dont dare to do that and he retires. Hat off sir. I used to own the first generation of Subaru XV 2.0 i-P. Drove it for 4 years before selling it off. I had no issue with the car, only had to buy a sunroof box as XV's boot was rather tiny. Can't fit my daughter's stroller and luggage at the same time.. hahaha
    Driving wise. It is brilliant! Especially in the rain where most cars are driving on the higher ground to avoid the flood, XV would just cruise easily. Fuel consumption and maintenance are just like normal Japanese car.
    I kinda regret selling it as it was my first family car. But I had to get a car with bigger boots. By the way, good driving Uncle. I wish this video was done earlier. It would have made me keep my XV much longer.. hahaha. Take care Uncle!

    Brilliant real-world demo of Subaru AWD / CVT / paddles generally and the XV specifically. Been driving Scoobies for years (primarily for AWD / reliability, not bothered about 'style' or 44 cupholders !) - Forester / Legacy / Outback / Impreza - even the old SVX. Picking up an XV next week and can't wait to try out it's features. Obviously softly-softly to start & could never hope (or want to!) equal Uncle's performance, but glad that the car can take over if/when I exceed my capabilities (or common sense!) and get me out of a pickle. Hat off and total respect, sir!

    Thank you uncle Khong for reviewing this XV GT. Although it is long overdue. I own this car. This is the safest B-segment company SUV I ever own in my life. The truth is I had accidentally trapped myself in wet road and sharp cornering at Cameron Highlands twisty roads yesterday. My whole car skidded all the way to the left. But without panic. I leave up the throttle and adjust my steering to the left to make it straight line again.

    • @YSKhongDriving
      @YSKhongDriving  4 года назад +8

      The risk of aqua planing is only slightly reduced because you have awd. The physics remain the same - that of water evacuation being highe volume can water accumulation at the front of the tyre, which depends on the amount of tread and the evacuation properties.
      Therefore you will still need to exercise caution. In fact during the drive there was a little bit of aqua planing that happened and it was mentioned by me.

    Great video! I very much enjoy the tips and tricks sprinkled through the video. I think its great you enjoyed the Subaru AWD, I see big smiles :) I enjoy my Subaru Impreza Sport in the California Canyons a lot! 🖐 The NA CVT combo is quite engaging especially the positive traction you mention loading up before corners. I wonder if it wasn't raining you would have hit the CVT limp mode when it gets too hot. I've been modifying my CVT Subaru to keep the heat soak down. Suspension and drivetrain upgrades make this car even better! I've started making YT videos about my Subaru and all your points hit right at home. Thanks Uncle Khong!

    owning a 2021 XV for a year, its very fun to drive, you can feel it's able to full throttle pulling out of apex. it has too much grips makes you want to have more power.

    From standstill I managed to keep up with this car level with my 10 year old Kia Forte 2.0. Around the roundabout and on the straight. The only reason he overtook me on the straight was because I throttled back (my kids came to mind). Was just curious to see how powerful the Subaru 2.0 NA was. It’s okay but maybe it’s only slightly better than a 10 year old Theta II considering how hard it had to work to stay level. Bottom line is, it’s a good family car..but if you want something to keep up with modern C-segments then look elsewhere. Thanks for the video Mr Khong. Always a joy to watch.

      The Forte is not a crossover with good ground clearance and ability to soak up bad roads like the XV does. Need to compare it with the Impreza, which is lighter

  • @oddities-whatnot
    @oddities-whatnot 3 месяца назад

    The XV is a great car. Nearly bought one a few years ago but that model year didn’t have the SI drive so I got a used Outback instead. Comfy car though, great to drive when I tested it. A lot of people dont like the dynamics of the NA engine with the CVT transmission, mainly through lack of understanding or expectation because they compare them to other cars which are lighter, with turbos etc. Silly people. Subaru are great for their intended purpose.

    • @YSKhongDriving

      Depends. The XV has AWD. HRV is FWD only. The HRV would probably save some fuel, cos it is lighter and less drivetrain drag.

    Hi Uncle YS,
    Would like to make a humble request - can you test out the Proton Preve CFE and share your view?
    Since you have been testing some older models and perhaps if there is a possibility you may get a unit to test and share? I feel it is a very underrated car which was priced at RM73k back then when it was still available in the market.
    Happy to hear your thoughts.
