The most mysterious part is how someone got off 7 shots of a Marlin rifle without waking everyone up. While a .30-30 lever action isn’t necessarily the loudest gun on earth, it still would be enough to wake the neighbors up with just one shot, yet alone half a dozen.

Ed and Loraine are the primary reason so many people to this day believe in haunted houses. Ever wonder how every single haunted house in America was apparently only haunted between the 50s to the 90s? Ed died in 2006. Lorraine became a bit of recluse after his death, supposedly guarding the world from the nightmares they locked in their basement "museum". Without Ed to fabricate stories and write books, there haven't been any famous haunting cases since the couple stopped doing "investigations".

The most frightening bit about that house is those freaky-a~s attic windows. Look at them. Seriously. Would you live in a house that appears to be looking at you? Not me.
In 1981 my family moved into a house with windows like those. It wasn't the same style of house as the Amityville house, it just had those windows on the third floor. When we kids saw a picture of it, we all said "cool, it's just like the Amityville house!" 😅 To the best of my knowledge, that house isn't haunted.
I read the book when I was teenager in the 70’s and LOVED it, as I did all stories like it. I remember that the Lutzesstated at the beginning of the book how important it was for their story to be told with the utmost adherence to the truth. When I saw the movie I was bothered by how much was changed, exaggerated or simply made up. But even then I knew that Hollywood does that so I dismissed it. But then I saw a television interview with the Lutzes, some talk show, and they were asked if they felt the movie truthfully told their story and they unequivocally said yes, absolutely. That one moment made me believe they were full of it. This video’s concluding chapter confirmed it.
I grew up on Long Island. In the 80s My dad worked with someone who lived next door to this house. My parents went to a party at the co-workers house, and of course the topic came up. It was said that the current neighbors did not experience anything like the Lutz family had while living there. I highly recommend the book if you haven’t read it yet - it’s very creepy.

It’s not at all terrifying, as there were no supernatural elements to the murder case, and they bought the house specifically to start spinning the yarn they thought would make them rich. Before moving in, they already had an author ready to publish the story and had spent some time interviewing De Feo’s lawyer on details of the murder case.
I live in an apartment complex that use to be a hospital and my landlord says she gets a lot of complaints from the West wing of the building where I live. I found out by going to a local museum about 5 years after I moved here, that my Apt is where the morgue was located.😮 So believe me, I believe in things that go bump in the night. These things are so commonplace that once I actually felt SOMETHING lay down in bed with me. I could feel and see the mattress sag and yet while it weirded me out, I wasn't afraid really. I just yelled, "get out of my bed! You cannot sleep in my freaking bed!" And I swear it just got up & I could hear it leave the room . I just ask them "not to hurt me or my pets..You were here first. But it would be nice if ya pitched in on the rent sometimes".😅 With all that said, I DO believe Butch DeFeo massacred his family but his attorney,WHO HAPPENED TO BE THE LUTZ' ATTORNEY, made up the whole "devil made me do it" to 1. Get Ronnie off and 2. To get the Lutz family out of a huge mortgage that they could ill afford . How come since then, nobody else has had trouble in that house? They've interviewed owners who said their only trouble was with looky-loos and pranks + teenagers around Halloween . Now Butch DeFeo said his lawyer made a lot of this stuff up & I think that's the only true thing he said
The weird thing is that after the lutz experience in the house. It is noted that nothing paranormal happened ever again and that owners now are at peace.
This is probably one of the most thorough treatments of the Amityville case I have ever watched - really well done. I always wondered about the gunfire that no one heard as well. Although the subsequent haunting has been proven to be a hoax, there were never any solutions offered for how no neighbors heard those original rifle shots. Weird to say the least.
Old houses are not made of tofu dregs. Well constructed houses with plaster and lath interior walls are known for their ability to deaden sound waves. That's all I have got.

Still, the Amityville house was built a little less than a hundred years ago and it wasn't built with thick stone walls like ancient castles. I've heard a shotgun being shot off on the other side of a house and there's no way anyone within the Amityville house could have sleep through that sound. I couldn't hear normally for at least ten minutes after and the neighbors two blocks away heard it being fired. It doesn't make sense that no one heard any of the shots being fired and that none of the Defao children got up to check on each other.

There is a documentary about Kathy's oldest son. He tells his story of what happened at the house. He claimed that George was into the occult. He made it sound like some of the events at the house were George's fault due to this.

Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death the world over. So the fact that a few people associated with this story died from heart issues is not at all surprising. The only poorly explained thing that ever bothered me about this crime is how the entire family were shot in their beds? A rifle shot is extremely loud, anyone with any sanity on hearing that in their house, at night, would instantly wake up, get out of bed and GTFO! If the rumours were true about the bodies being placed in bed after the shootings, that'd make a bunch more sense.
The smell and black coating of things in the house could have been Stachybotrys, a toxic mould. Given the proximity of the house to water, it wouldn’t be a surprise. This mould very nasty neurological effects . The flies were probably cluster flies which cluster together as the name suggests. For winter hibernation The family could have been incapacitated by carbon monoxide. They would not have woken up under its affect. The neighbours lied about not hearing shots because they would get the blame for not doing anything and missing the chance to save at least some of the family members.
Some of those theories are complete rubbish, the neighbors would have called the police or at least admitted they might have heard something, the idea they heard it and denied is based on unlikely assumptions and conjecture. Also, Carbon Monoxide doesn't incapacitate like that, it's not known for causing sleep paralysis and it would have incapacitated the shooter as well, it's quite simply impossibly convenient that the shooter, the only insane person, would be the only one unaffected, your "scientific theory" is based on more fantasy than childrens books as far as those 2 theories go. The black mold checks out, it's usually very underestimated, definitely a contributing factor for the murders, but not the reason. But I'm not sure what you were getting at with the flies, it's a fairly insignificant point.

I’ve always been fascinated with the story of this house and the fact that’s Lauren’s went to explore it. I also specially loved the story of this because I live 15-20 mins away from this house and I can say for my self seeing this house in person you can actually feel something weird about the house ,not just on the house but the surrounding of the property.
If I hadn’t just watched a far more convincing documentary explaining what really happened, how the hoax was conceived, the deal between the Lutz’s original author that fell through over a disagreement … you might have almost had me. The somewhat ethereal-bordering-on-ASMR voiceover was an especially nice touch. Bravo!
A number of years ago, I purchased a used dvd of a documentary which included the Lutz's young son, now a grown man, being interviewed. He heavily implies that the story was concocted, but says that his father engaged in witchcraft, and that the house felt evil because of him. He seemed pretty scarred by the publicity of being dragged onto talk shows and constantly referred to as The Amityville Boy. DeFeo, Sr. and Mr.Lutz both seem to have been intimidating characters. The house itself looks very nice, but I'm sure it's giving off creepy vibes by now, regardless of the haunting hoax.
On the Lutz' not talking about what happened that last night in the house, its funny because they seemingly couldnt stop talking about it to everyone on the talk show circuit while making the rounds multiple times. The one Lutz son has done a documentary called "My Amityville Horror" and it is really interesting. As far as them leaving all their possessions behind, it couldnt have been that much because all the Defaeo's belongings, furniture, etc were still in there while the Lutz's resided there. So leaving their stuff IMO doesnt give their story any more credibility. IMO when it comes to the Warrens its been said they've never gone to house that wasnt haunted. I believe Lorraine had psychic sensitivities that were real. Ed I believe was a self proclaimed demonologist with no real credentials. More often then not, the couple was asked to leave locations for making problems worse, or due to Ed temper & profane laced tantrums. Its odd that in the multiple retellings of the Warren's cases these facts are conviently left out. As with at times they were never asked to these locations but showed up to them unannounced after reports became publicized. More than once it was Ed Warren who called the media to report on the cases himself. I dont know if some or all of these things are true. Like I said, I do believe Lorraine was the real deal which Ed kind of exploited to give him some level of credibility. Now that they have both passed it will be interesting to see if they pay anyone a visit proving their theories on the afterlife & paranormal. Personally, I believe, but I think there are somethings while on this mortal coil we were not meant to know, but that doesnt mean I dont find reviewing paranormal cases & doing investgations any less fascinating. The Amityville Horror gets more ridiculous with each retelling. Sadly, whats often overlooked is that an unstable son took the lives of his 6 imediate family members one night. They were real people who have must expwrienced unimaginable horror at the hands of someone they knew & loved. Thats the real horror that actually happened in that house the rest is up to everyone else to figure on whether the hauntings & possessions are true or not.

There is evidence that the mother and one of his sisters was awake during the shooting. He could have committed the murders so quickly that the victims probably didn’t have the time to realize what was going on.
The Lutz’s story was exposed as fake decades ago, in a series of court cases and lawsuits, involving many of the people they dealt with. For example they approached De Feo’s lawyer before even buying the house, asking for detailed information on that murder case. That they did this as a get rich scheme is far from incredible, as movies about the supernatural were at peak popularity at the time. But, you know… if you believe in ghosts and magic, feel free to ignore the inconvenient facts surrounding this story.
I think being sceptical about what the Lutz family claimed happened is sensible. However I think it's also fairly sensible to be sceptical of the claims of William Webber and Ronnie. One of whom apparently fell out with the Lutz family over the money, the other changed his story repeatedly. Unless I'm mistaken nothing has ever been proven or disproved.
As for the picture of s supposed child on the staircase with glowing eyes, it was debunked as one of the photographers sitting on the stairs and the glowing eyes were actually light reflected off of his glasses.. And also, if it was a child, he would have to be pretty tall for his head to be above the rails, common sense.

It's why I love it so much there's part of that convinces whatever happened in there can all be explained but then there's this other part that believes something beyond our realization and vision existed there or maybe still lingers. I believe the story told by Ron Jr in the last interview he gave before he died in prison like he said I'm gonna tell you the truth I'm dieing and I'm never going to get out of prison. The Lutz family and the haunting was nothing but a grift to make money.

If you look closely at the photo of what is claimed to be one of the deceased children you can clearly see what definitely looks like glasses. I have never noticed that before and now I cannot unsee it .
Mentioned elsewhere that you can find comparisons to that picture and one of the investigators in the house and it very well could be him. They do deny being on that floor when the picture was taken though. Regardless of if there is an explanation for it, it still creeps me the hell out.
The picture of the boy has been debunked. As being a photograph of a kneeling technician with glasses and a small figure. The glowing eyes are a reflection of the glasses. If you look closely you can see the frame of the glasses especially at the right side of the head. Unfortunately I forgot where I saw this being debunked ... it was another youtube channel. No, it doesn't- polygraphs are notoriously unreliable, only ever achieving 50/50 accuracy. Calling it a lie-detector is as genuine as using that term to describe a tennis shoe. Moreover, it's on record somewhere that Ed Warren was involved somehow in the making of the book. He said something on the lines of, "just make it scary". So that should say a good bit about not only this case, but Ed's credibility.
What happened? A family moved into a house where a tragic event occurred and then found out they couldn't afford it. So, they colluded with a pair of hucksters to make up a story.

The one fact in the whole story is that some lowlife murdered his family there, every single thing said since then has been lies. The family who live there now have been there since 2016 and said the only weird thing that happens is random people off the internet turning up to take pictures and trespass on their property.

The infamous “Red Room” was a cupboard. The “Ghost Boy” is clearly someone crouched down wearing glasses, the light is reflecting off the lenses, one can even see the frames of the glasses quite clearly. How that photograph frightened so many over the years, and was believed, is bewildering. I wouldn’t believe anything the Warren’s said. And I’m not sure what is meant by “twelve month span” as The Lutz’s were only in the house for 28 days, possibly less. I did enjoy this video though, very well made and narrated.
Im from long island and we dont have a clue what happened still. My parents were 24. Took us to that house a million times and actually has a great aura! Im also well aware that like ALL of long island is cursed by native americans. All of our towns are named after tribes that we colonized!! Who WOULDNT haunt this place? But that house? I don't think there was anything paranormal about this case, but I sure as hell would like to know exactly what happened that night. How did none of them hear multiple blasts from a high powered rifle? And it's not true that the Lutz's used the same furniture the DeFeos used. It was all replaced

There is no evidence of anything supernatural other than people's ability to lie or exaggerate or even understand what they are seeing or experiencing. There's nothing wrong with saying 'I don't know', but you fruits go straight to 'of course it's real, just look!' Or 'I experienced this myself!' It's been a long, long time since I've thought about Amityville and the Lutz family. And every once in a purple moon, I get sucked back in. I don't know the Lutz's personally, but my brother was best friends with the cousin of Christopher Lutz. The mother's were related. My parent's, little brother and I were living in Flagstaff, Az at the time. Our other brother was in the military. One day, my little brother gets a call from his friend Chris saying his cousins were in town and if he'd like to meet them. He said yes, and went up the hill to me them. A few hours had passed when my brother comes running into the house slamming the door behind him. He was scared to death. When he calmed down, he told me Christopher Lutz and his sister showed them some pictures of the house. Two pictures I remember him telling me about was a photo of the Chinese Dragons at the foot of the staircase. There was some kind of mist over them - like a super imposed photo over them. Their eyes were blood red, the smile showed fangs and they seemed alive. The 2nd photo was of the windows on the first floor landing. On the right side of the window, there was a "demonic" pig face, red eyes, smiling at the camera. My poor little brother was so scared he slept in my room for 2 weeks. A lot of paranormal stuff began happening in our home, which I won't discuss now because it's nothing compared to what came later. About 4-5 months later, Chris, his sister and a bunch of friends decided to play with the ouija board. My brother didn't participate ('cause he knows better) and left. Chris, my brothers best friend, was going to die from strangulation, his sister would die from losing a leg, one girl's house would catch fire........... Chris, did die from strangulation. It was late at night and he was on Lake Mary rd. when his pickup hit a patch of black ice and flipped over. Chris was hanging upside down in the cab. He was trying to undo his seatbelt, but kept slipping downward. He was strangled to death by the seatbelt. During Christmas break, his sister went down to Mexico with a bunch of her high school friends. She was on the back of an ATV when out of no where, an unmanned ATV side swipped the ATV her and her friend were on. It mangled her leg. She was taken to a hospital in Mexico City for treatment. Gangrene set in and she got sceptic. The doctors were going to amputate her leg, but she was air evacked to Phoenix Children's hospital where they managed to save her leg. The last I heard from Chris Lutz was about 20+ years ago. At that time, he was living in Phoenix, still obsessing about Amytiville. I have no desire, nor does my little brother of being in contact with him. Bad, bad things happen to people when they do.

I don't think their story was entirely made up. I think they may have experienced some poltergeist activity. Maybe brought on by their own collective anxiety and hysteria about living in the house so shortly after the murders. I think they thought their real story would be worth telling but when Jay Ansen met up with them he didn't - and convinced them to add the elements needed to make it into the ghost story we all know. George & Kathy probably didn't realise they'd still be talking about it 30 years later. They just needed the money and accepted that Ansen would have to 'bend the truth' to make it salesworthy. That's just my opinion anyway.Oh - and the picture of 'the boy' - it's one of the investigators. There are other pictures where you can clearly see a blond haired, check shirt wearing guy with spectacles among them who is really onbviously the kid. I can't remember his name, but he is known and has agreed since that the picture is of him and the 'glowing eyes' are reflections of his thick 70's prescription glasses.

The whole "you take the blame" and "I don't want to hear any more about your sister" to me makes it sound like Ronnie was implicating his sister as well as himself in the murders. I'm not sure if that really points to abuse? But you might be right. It does seem like Ronnie Snr had a violent side, at least towards Jr.
It was no secret that DeFeo Sr. was a very violent and abusive man, regularly beating on Louise as well as his kids. Michael Brigante, Louise's father, who was also up to his neck in the New York mafia, had gotten wind of his son-in-law's abuse of his daughter and his grandchildren. Sometime in September of that year, Louise's friend and housekeeper had been there and she overheard when two men in business suits rang the doorbell one afternoon and told Louise to tell her husband that if he ever hit her again, he'd end up dead. Also, there was ALMOST an active hit out on DeFeo, but Ronnie jr. told his grandfather that he'd take care of it, and that it would happen sometime in early December "somewhere in the city." I have studied this case and read everything I can about it; little John Matt, as he was affectionately called, was the very same age as I was at that time, he was born in late october, 1965, also like me, so I've always had a special place in my heart for that little boy, along with the rest of them who lost their lives that night as well.
When you look deep enough into the abyss, sometimes the abyss looks back, especially when under severe trauma and chemical drugs. That would be my conclusion
One of the questions i always had was,how in the hell did he manage to fire all those rounds,in the middle of the night,nothing to supress the sound of the shots,and no one,not in the house or outside of it,like neighbors,was able to hear a single noise from it? No one heard anything,the neighbors said they had heard nothing. Even his family,one by one,yet nobody woke up with the sound of gunfire? It's a pretty loud sound,especially índoors where the sound will bounce and echo off of the walls and travel thru the house. That is something that always has puzzled me, something i find dificult to understand.
This case is still incredible to listen to! Every time you hear it you notice something you may not have before! The house is still there on Ocean Ave but I believe they’ve changed the Modifier along with the windows of the home that resembled eyes so much!
I wish you and others would, this tragedy has caused so much pain and these poor people had their deaths dragged threw so much bullshit it's not right.

Cameras had been around an awfully long time, before this family moved into that house. We saw photos of the various family members, indicating they owned a camera. You're telling me, that all this stuff is supposedly going on, and no-body thought "Hey let's take a photo of this, you know so people don't think we are lying about it later." As for spooky feelings of ominous beings lurking about, have you ever watched a horror movie, and then had creepy feelings for even days or weeks afterwards? This family bought a house where six people had been murdered not long before. They would have heard about the murders, and spoken with their neighbours and people around town. I have no doubt that they started having creepy feelings after ingesting all that information, so would anyone. This was clearly an attempt by the Lutz family to make a quick buck.

My opinion, the residual energy of the horrific murders alone could very well affect that family. As been discussed over the years, and as mentioned here, it seems likely that things were embellished, either by the author or family, but I believe something was left behind.
Me and my aunt have been there in the 90s just standing in the drive way, and somebody was living there!! They changed the spooky windows, so at first it was hard to find it
My mom broke into the house with her friends when they were kids. According to her there was a voice that yelled "get out" and I think she once said that her friends used a oujia board there. I'm skeptical but it's still a great addition to think about when it comes to this story
The case of George Lutz claiming to be constantly cold in the house all the time is not surprising, all they had was a coal fire to heat up such a big house.
Not true at all! The house had an oil fired boiler that provided "steam heat" through the heating system's plumbing and cast iron radiators. Where in Hell did you ever get the idea that it was a coal furnace heating system? You can clearly see the large ugly radiators throughout the house.
Although the average podcast works great for going down the road or work when that's acceptable, for myself who turns to RUclips and Rumble for content to watch, it's not just your voice which was made for this or the intersting stories which has me enjoying this channel but that you take them time to add pics and clips for visual effects is a huge part of why I keep coming back.

I grew up the next town over. The original house burned down years ago. The local lore stated the stained glass window would bleed but once that was removed all issues stopped.
While claiming to have left all their possessions in the house, how much possessions did they have to begin with? When the house was still fully furnished with the DeFeo's possessions when the Lutz's moved in!
It was NOT "fully furnished"; I, too, heard him say that it was still furnished with all of the DeFeo's furniture; it wasn't. The Lutzes had purchased SOME of the furniture, i.e., the little bit of furniture that remained in the house from the DeFeo estate, to wit: a girl's bedroom furniture set, a dining room table and chair set, two washers and two dryers that remained in the basement from the DeFeo Estate, along with a freezer, 7 room air conditioners, and a newer refrigerator that remained in the kitchen. There was also an electric lawn mower left behind in the garage. Other than those things and maybe a few other small miscellaneous items, that was all that remained inside the house. Gone was most of the rest of the DeFeo's furniture, like their living room and basement rec room furniture, and their baby grand piano that had once sat in the living room.
It's also really quite the long con, and quite an extreme length to go to, to leave EVERYTHING there! Including your prized possessions that you're more than just ba little fond of, and have worked very hard for! I've studied this for years and I think went down exactly as they say it did. I think I remember him once saying "why would anyone want to do this on purpose, and put a load of scrutiny on yourself:"..or words to.. And I agree, all of their body language and speech patterns check out, as well as polygraphs. It happened.
21:30 The picture of the boy has been debunked. As being a photograph of a kneeling technician with glasses and of small stature. The glowing eyes are a reflection of the glasses. If you look closely you can see the frame of the glasses especially at the right side of the head. Also someone claimed to recognise the person in question. So there you go. Unfortunately I forgot where I saw this being debunked ... it was another youtube channel. Otherwise I would have posted more details. I thought I mention this in the video but it's been a long time. But yeah, the two explanations that have been given is the photographer (who I think was wearing what looked like a similar shirt), one of the other investigators or the child of one of the investigators who was in the house. Although they all denied this to my knowledge
I will always be a huge sceptic. The major issue I have with any haunted house or location is that it’s always because people were murder or died there. People die all over the shop everywhere in towns villages and cities. There would be ghosts and haunting literally everywhere
In an interview, Christopher Lutz said that his Uncle and Aunt visited them for a time and the aunt saw a little boy in their room upstairs. Like the one in the ghost boy photo. She called him the blue boy because his face looked blue.

If you look closely at the "boy" photo, you can see it is someone wearing what they used to call "cat eye" glasses. I've read it was actually Lorraine Warren and the glow was the reflection of light off her glasses. Who knows for sure

Mental health has always been misunderstood in history as some sort of demonic or otherwise supernatural plight. However, the idea that a place or objects could be haunted is a relatively new idea. Ed and Loraine are the primary reason so many people to this day believe in haunted houses.
Ever wonder how every single haunted house in America was apparently only haunted between the 50s to the 90s? Ed died in 2006. Lorraine became a bit of recluse after his death, supposedly guarding the world from the nightmares they locked in their basement "museum". Without Ed to fabricate stories and write books, there haven't been any famous haunting cases since the couple stopped doing "investigations".

In 1981 my family moved into a house with windows like those. It wasn't the same style of house as the Amityville house, it just had those windows on the third floor.
When we kids saw a picture of it, we all said "cool, it's just like the Amityville house!" 😅

I read the book when I was teenager in the 70’s and LOVED it, as I did all stories like it. I remember that the Lutzesstated at the beginning of the book how important it was for their story to be told with the utmost adherence to the truth. When I saw the movie I was bothered by how much was changed, exaggerated or simply made up. But even then I knew that Hollywood does that so I dismissed it. But then I saw a television interview with the Lutzes, some talk show, and they were asked if they felt the movie truthfully told their story and they unequivocally said yes, absolutely. That one moment made me believe they were full of it. This video’s concluding chapter confirmed it.
I grew up on Long Island. In the 80s My dad worked with someone who lived next door to this house. My parents went to a party at the co-workers house, and of course the topic came up. It was said that the current neighbors did not experience anything like the Lutz family had while living there. I highly recommend the book if you haven’t read it yet - it’s very creepy.
I love channels like this. Amityville is one of the most powerful mysterious Paranormal stories I have ever heard of. It's one of those things you never get tired of hearing and you never stop questioning.

It’s not at all terrifying, as there were no supernatural elements to the murder case, and they bought the house specifically to start spinning the yarn they thought would make them rich.
Before moving in, they already had an author ready to publish the story and had spent some time interviewing De Feo’s lawyer on details of the murder case.
I live in an apartment complex that use to be a hospital and my landlord says she gets a lot of complaints from the West wing of the building where I live. I found out by going to a local museum about 5 years after I moved here, that my Apt is where the morgue was located.😮
So believe me, I believe in things that go bump in the night.
These things are so commonplace that once I actually felt SOMETHING lay down in bed with me. I could feel and see the mattress sag and yet while it weirded me out, I wasn't afraid really. I just yelled, "get out of my bed! You cannot sleep in my freaking bed!" And I swear it just got up & I could hear it leave the room .

This is probably one of the most thorough treatments of the Amityville case I have ever watched - really well done. I always wondered about the gunfire that no one heard as well. Although the subsequent haunting has been proven to be a hoax, there were never any solutions offered for how no neighbors heard those original rifle shots. Weird to say the least.
Old houses are not made of tofu dregs. Well constructed houses with plaster and lath interior walls are known for their ability to deaden sound waves. That's all I have got.

Still, the Amityville house was built a little less than a hundred years ago and it wasn't built with thick stone walls like ancient castles. I've heard a shotgun being shot off on the other side of a house and there's no way anyone within the Amityville house could have sleep through that sound. I couldn't hear normally for at least ten minutes after and the neighbors two blocks away heard it being fired. It doesn't make sense that no one heard any of the shots being fired and that none of the Defao children got up to check on each other.

There is a documentary about Kathy's oldest son. He tells his story of what happened at the house. He claimed that George was into the occult. He made it sound like some of the events at the house were George's fault due to this.

Yeah, I saw that. It was a huge detail left out of all the stories. I think there’s far less paranormal stuff going on about the story and far more just about a man messing with the occult in a place he shouldn’t have been doing it.
I read a book about this story, and it said that the Lutz's were into meditation/yoga....not the occult.
I used to be heavily invloved in the occult and other than occasional night terrors, I made it out fine.

I totally agree. I can’t get enough and I live 20 minutes from Amityville. Only saw the house once because my friend lived in the town at the time, not too far from the house. It’s a gorgeous home no doubt, too bad the events that took place there were so terribly tragic.

Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death the world over. So the fact that a few people associated with this story died from heart issues is not at all surprising. The only poorly explained thing that ever bothered me about this crime is how the entire family were shot in their beds? A rifle shot is extremely loud, anyone with any sanity on hearing that in their house, at night, would instantly wake up, get out of bed and GTFO! If the rumours were true about the bodies being placed in bed after the shootings, that'd make a bunch more sense.
Perhaps they were drugged at dinner with an untraceable substance? I tend to look for rational explanations.

The smell and black coating of things in the house could have been Stachybotrys, a toxic mould. Given the proximity of the house to water, it wouldn’t be a surprise. This mould very nasty neurological effects . The flies were probably cluster flies which cluster together as the name suggests. For winter hibernation The family could have been incapacitated by carbon monoxide. They would not have woken up under its affect. The neighbours lied about not hearing shots because they would get the blame for not doing anything and missing the chance to save at least some of the family members.

Some of those theories are complete rubbish, the neighbors would have called the police or at least admitted they might have heard something, the idea they heard it and denied is based on unlikely assumptions and conjecture. Also, Carbon Monoxide doesn't incapacitate like that, it's not known for causing sleep paralysis and it would have incapacitated the shooter as well, it's quite simply impossibly convenient that the shooter, the only insane person, would be the only one unaffected, your "scientific theory" is based on more fantasy than childrens books as far as those 2 theories go.
The black mold checks out, it's usually very underestimated, definitely a contributing factor for the murders, but not the reason. But I'm not sure what you were getting at with the flies, it's a fairly insignificant point.

I’ve always been fascinated with the story of this house and the fact that’s Lauren’s went to explore it. I also specially loved the story of this because I live 15-20 mins away from this house and I can say for my self seeing this house in person you can actually feel something weird about the house ,not just on the house but the surrounding of the property.
And even more there are People living at 412 Ocean to this day. Yes they changed the address right along with the quarter round windows.
If I hadn’t just watched a far more convincing documentary explaining what really happened, how the hoax was conceived, the deal between the Lutz’s original author that fell through over a disagreement … you might have almost had me.

A number of years ago, I purchased a used dvd of a documentary which included the Lutz's young son, now a grown man, being interviewed.
He heavily implies that the story was concocted, but says that his father engaged in witchcraft, and that the house felt evil because of him. He seemed pretty scarred by the publicity of being dragged onto talk shows and constantly referred to as The Amityville Boy.
DeFeo, Sr. and Mr.Lutz both seem to have been intimidating characters.
The house itself looks very nice, but I'm sure it's giving off creepy vibes by now, regardless of the haunting hoax.

On the Lutz' not talking about what happened that last night in the house, its funny because they seemingly couldnt stop talking about it to everyone on the talk show circuit while making the rounds multiple times. The one Lutz son has done a documentary called "My Amityville Horror" and it is really interesting. As far as them leaving all their possessions behind, it couldnt have been that much because all the Defaeo's belongings, furniture, etc were still in there while the Lutz's resided there. So leaving their stuff IMO doesnt give their story any more credibility.
IMO when it comes to the Warrens its been said they've never gone to house that wasnt haunted. I believe Lorraine had psychic sensitivities that were real. Ed I believe was a self proclaimed demonologist with no real credentials. More often then not, the couple was asked to leave locations for making problems worse, or due to Ed temper & profane laced tantrums. Its odd that in the multiple retellings of the Warren's cases these facts are conviently left out. As with at times they were never asked to these locations but showed up to them unannounced after reports became publicized. More than once it was Ed Warren who called the media to report on the cases himself. I dont know if some or all of these things are true. Like I said, I do believe Lorraine was the real deal which Ed kind of exploited to give him some level of credibility. Now that they have both passed it will be interesting to see if they pay anyone a visit proving their theories on the afterlife & paranormal. Personally, I believe, but I think there are somethings while on this mortal coil we were not meant to know, but that doesnt mean I dont find reviewing paranormal cases & doing investgations any less fascinating.
The Amityville Horror gets more ridiculous with each retelling. Sadly, whats often overlooked is that an unstable son took the lives of his 6 imediate family members one night. They were real people who have must expwrienced unimaginable horror at the hands of someone they knew & loved. Thats the real horror that actually happened in that house the rest is up to everyone else to figure on whether the hauntings & possessions are true or not.
They also would get (or try to) people’s permission to write books on their “hauntings”. Grifters.
After reading and watching so much on the Warrens, I'm convinced that Ed was a complete grifter and that his wife was probably halfway innocent and a "true believer". She might have had some type of psychic talent and Ed used that to make money off of whatever publicity he could drum up.

Rumor has it that his lawyer and George & Kathy and Jay Anson met over dinner and wine one night... some money exchanged hands and the "haunting" began. Perhaps, if the house was "possessed" then Ronnie'd have yet another excuse to use in court. Maybe just a rumor. Maybe not.

What I find haunting, for the lack of a better word about this case is all the victims were found in bed & had not been moved or drugged & no one in the neighborhood ever heard any shots fired from such a powerful rifle. Those facts are scarier to me than anything Hollywood, the Lutz' s or even the Warren's could whip up.

There is evidence that the mother and one of his sisters was awake during the shooting. He could have committed the murders so quickly that the victims probably didn’t have the time to realize what was going on.
I'm so glad that you touched on the weird relationship of Ronnie and Dawn. Yet only very few have never talked about Ronnie, his wife, and his kid.
The Lutz’s story was exposed as fake decades ago, in a series of court cases and lawsuits, involving many of the people they dealt with. For example they approached De Feo’s lawyer before even buying the house, asking for detailed information on that murder case.
That they did this as a get rich scheme is far from incredible, as movies about the supernatural were at peak popularity at the time.
But, you know… if you believe in ghosts and magic, feel free to ignore the inconvenient facts surrounding this story.
I think being sceptical about what the Lutz family claimed happened is sensible. However I think it's also fairly sensible to be sceptical of the claims of William Webber and Ronnie. One of whom apparently fell out with the Lutz family over the money, the other changed his story repeatedly. Unless I'm mistaken nothing has ever been proven or disproved.

Hoax or not it is still a great ghost story. Well done.

As for the picture of s supposed child on the staircase with glowing eyes, it was debunked as one of the photographers sitting on the stairs and the glowing eyes were actually light reflected off of his glasses.. And also, if it was a child, he would have to be pretty tall for his head to be above the rails, common sense.

It's why I love it so much there's part of that convinces whatever happened in there can all be explained but then there's this other part that believes something beyond our realization and vision existed there or maybe still lingers. I believe the story told by Ron Jr in the last interview he gave before he died in prison like he said I'm gonna tell you the truth I'm dieing and I'm never going to get out of prison. The Lutz family and the haunting was nothing but a grift to make money.

The Amityville horror makes for a great story and that's all it is. A fantastic horror story. It's fiction. The absolute horror of the murders is sadly, all too real.

If you look closely at the photo of what is claimed to be one of the deceased children you can clearly see what definitely looks like glasses. I have never noticed that before and now I cannot unsee it .
Mentioned elsewhere that you can find comparisons to that picture and one of the investigators in the house and it very well could be him. They do deny being on that floor when the picture was taken though. Regardless of if there is an explanation for it, it still creeps me the hell out.

The picture of the boy has been debunked. As being a photograph of a kneeling technician with glasses and a small figure. The glowing eyes are a reflection of the glasses. If you look closely you can see the frame of the glasses especially at the right side of the head.
Unfortunately I forgot where I saw this being debunked ... it was another youtube channel. It should be common knowledge by now.

No, it doesn't- polygraphs are notoriously unreliable, only ever achieving 50/50 accuracy. Calling it a lie-detector is as genuine as using that term to describe a tennis shoe.
Moreover, it's on record somewhere that Ed Warren was involved somehow in the making of the book. He said something on the lines of, "just make it scary". So that should say a good bit about not only this case, but Ed's credibility.
What happened? A family moved into a house where a tragic event occurred and then found out they couldn't afford it. So, they colluded with a pair of hucksters to make up a story.

I lived over in Lindenhurst a few miles away for years and literally none of the locals believe any of it. It’s a nice house in a nice neighbourhood. The one fact in the whole story is that some lowlife murdered his family there, every single thing said since then has been lies. The family who live there now have been there since 2016 and said the only weird thing that happens is random people off the internet turning up to take pictures and trespass on their property.
Yet they had the mockery hey for a new boat and custom motorcycles but left them at the house when they fled? doesn't add up if it was purely a bad financial move.

At the time the Lutz's fled the house, Ronnie DeFeo was still changing his story - often. His trial hadn't started yet. Rumor has it that his lawyer and George & Kathy and Jay Anson met over dinner and wine one night... some money exchanged hands and the "haunting" began. Perhaps, if the house was "possessed" then Ronnie'd have yet another excuse to use in court. Maybe just a rumor. Maybe not.
This wasn’t just a rumour; the lawyer revealed this in interviews.
The Lutz's lawyer came up with that when they cut him loose. Plus George and Kathy should be screenwriters instead of putting money into a house and then banking on a book/movie deal (who even thinks of that).
The infamous “Red Room” was a cupboard.
The “Ghost Boy” is clearly someone crouched down wearing glasses, the light is reflecting off the lenses, one can even see the frames of the glasses quite clearly.
How that photograph frightened so many over the years, and was believed, is bewildering.
I wouldn’t believe anything the Warren’s said. And I’m not sure what is meant by “twelve month span” as The Lutz’s were only in the house for 28 days, possibly less.

Im from long island and we dont have a clue what happened still. My parents were 24. Took us to that house a million times and actually has a great aura! Im also well aware that like ALL of long island is cursed by native americans. All of our towns are named after tribes that we colonized!! Who WOULDNT haunt this place? But that house? It's been a long, long time since I've thought about Amityville and the Lutz family.
And every once in a purple moon, I get sucked back in.
I don't know the Lutz's personally, but my brother was best friends with the cousin of Christopher Lutz. The mother's were related.
My parent's, little brother and I were living in Flagstaff, Az at the time. Our other brother was in the military.
One day, my little brother gets a call from his friend Chris saying his cousins were in town and if he'd like to meet them. He said yes, and went up the hill to me them.
A few hours had passed when my brother comes running into the house slamming the door behind him. He was scared to death.
When he calmed down, he told me Christopher Lutz and his sister showed them some pictures of the house. Two pictures I remember him telling me about was a photo of the Chinese Dragons at the foot of the staircase. There was some kind of mist over them - like a super imposed photo over them. Their eyes were blood red, the smile showed fangs and they seemed alive.
The 2nd photo was of the windows on the first floor landing. On the right side of the window, there was a "demonic" pig face, red eyes, smiling at the camera.
My poor little brother was so scared he slept in my room for 2 weeks.
A lot of paranormal stuff began happening in our home, which I won't discuss now because it's nothing compared to what came later.
About 4-5 months later, Chris, his sister and a bunch of friends decided to play with the ouija board. My brother didn't participate ('cause he knows better) and left.
Chris, my brothers best friend, was going to die from strangulation, his sister would die from losing a leg, one girl's house would catch fire...........
Chris, did die from strangulation. It was late at night and he was on Lake Mary rd. when his pickup hit a patch of black ice and flipped over. Chris was hanging upside down in the cab. He was trying to undo his seatbelt, but kept slipping downward. He was strangled to death by the seatbelt.
During Christmas break, his sister went down to Mexico with a bunch of her high school friends.
She was on the back of an ATV when out of no where, an unmanned ATV side swipped the ATV her and her friend were on. It mangled her leg.
She was taken to a hospital in Mexico City for treatment. Gangrene set in and she got sceptic. The doctors were going to amputate her leg, but
she was air evacked to Phoenix Children's hospital where they managed to save her leg.
The last I heard from Chris Lutz was about 20+ years ago. At that time, he was living in Phoenix, still obsessing about Amytiville.
I have no desire, nor does my little brother of being in contact with him. Bad, bad things happen to people when they do.

21:56 IMO, it doesn't appear that the boy in the picture has glowing eyes as was suggested. It just looks like the flash of the camera reflected off the glasses he was obviously wearing. Does a ghosts glasses reflect light?
I don't think their story was entirely made up. I think they may have experienced some poltergeist activity. Maybe brought on by their own collective anxiety and hysteria about living in the house so shortly after the murders.
I think they thought their real story would be worth telling but when Jay Ansen met up with them he didn't - and convinced them to add the elements needed to make it into the ghost story we all know. George & Kathy probably didn't realise they'd still be talking about it 30 years later. They just needed the money and accepted that Ansen would have to 'bend the truth' to make it salesworthy.
That's just my opinion anyway.Oh - and the picture of 'the boy' - it's one of the investigators. There are other pictures where you can clearly see a blond haired, check shirt wearing guy with spectacles among them who is really onbviously the kid. I can't remember his name, but he is known and has agreed since that the picture is of him and the 'glowing eyes' are reflections of his thick 70's prescription glasses.

The whole "you take the blame" and "I don't want to hear any more about your sister" to me makes it sound like Ronnie was implicating his sister as well as himself in the murders. I'm not sure if that really points to abuse? But you might be right. It does seem like Ronnie Snr had a violent side, at least towards Jr.
It was no secret that DeFeo Sr. was a very violent and abusive man, regularly beating on Louise as well as his kids. Michael Brigante, Louise's father, who was also up to his neck in the New York mafia, had gotten wind of his son-in-law's abuse of his daughter and his grandchildren. Sometime in September of that year, Louise's friend and housekeeper had been there and she overheard when two men in business suits rang the doorbell one afternoon and told Louise to tell her husband that if he ever hit her again, he'd end up dead. Also, there was ALMOST an active hit out on DeFeo, but Ronnie jr. told his grandfather that he'd take care of it, and that it would happen sometime in early December "somewhere in the city." I have studied this case and read everything I can about it; little John Matt, as he was affectionately called, was the very same age as I was at that time, he was born in late october, 1965, also like me, so I've always had a special place in my heart for that little boy, along with the rest of them who lost their lives that night as well.
When you look deep enough into the abyss, sometimes the abyss looks back, especially when under severe trauma and chemical drugs. That would be my conclusion
One of the questions i always had was,how in the hell did he manage to fire all those rounds,in the middle of the night,nothing to supress the sound of the shots,and no one,not in the house or outside of it,like neighbors,was able to hear a single noise from it? No one heard anything,the neighbors said they had heard nothing. Even his family,one by one,yet nobody woke up with the sound of gunfire? It's a pretty loud sound,especially índoors where the sound will bounce and echo off of the walls and travel thru the house. That is something that always has puzzled me, something i find dificult to understand.
I can't even see that photo without my heart skipping a beat and I struggle to look at it for more than a second or two

The house is still there on Ocean Ave but I believe they’ve changed the Modifier along with the windows of the home that resembled eyes so much!

Cameras had been around an awfully long time, before this family moved into that house. We saw photos of the various family members, indicating they owned a camera. You're telling me, that all this stuff is supposedly going on, and no-body thought "Hey let's take a photo of this, you know so people don't think we are lying about it later." As for spooky feelings of ominous beings lurking about, have you ever watched a horror movie, and then had creepy feelings for even days or weeks afterwards? This family bought a house where six people had been murdered not long before. They would have heard about the murders, and spoken with their neighbours and people around town. I have no doubt that they started having creepy feelings after ingesting all that information, so would anyone. This was clearly an attempt by the Lutz family to make a quick buck.

My opinion, the residual energy of the horrific murders alone could very well affect that family. As been discussed over the years, and as mentioned here, it seems likely that things were embellished, either by the author or family, but I believe something was left behind.

My mom broke into the house with her friends when they were kids. According to her there was a voice that yelled "get out" and I think she once said that her friends used a oujia board there.

The case of George Lutz claiming to be constantly cold in the house all the time is not surprising, all they had was a coal fire to heat up such a big house.
Not true at all! The house had an oil fired boiler that provided "steam heat" through the heating system's plumbing and cast iron radiators. Where in Hell did you ever get the idea that it was a coal furnace heating system? You can clearly see the large ugly radiators throughout the house.

While claiming to have left all their possessions in the house, how much possessions did they have to begin with? When the house was still fully furnished with the DeFeo's possessions when the Lutz's moved in!
It was NOT "fully furnished"; I, too, heard him say that it was still furnished with all of the DeFeo's furniture; it wasn't. The Lutzes had purchased SOME of the furniture, i.e., the little bit of furniture that remained in the house from the DeFeo estate, to wit: a girl's bedroom furniture set, a dining room table and chair set, two washers and two dryers that remained in the basement from the DeFeo Estate, along with a freezer, 7 room air conditioners, and a newer refrigerator that remained in the kitchen. There was also an electric lawn mower left behind in the garage. Other than those things and maybe a few other small miscellaneous items, that was all that remained inside the house. Gone was most of the rest of the DeFeo's furniture, like their living room and basement rec room furniture, and their baby grand piano that had once sat in the living room.

I thought I mention this in the video but it's been a long time. But yeah, the two explanations that have been given is the photographer (who I think was wearing what looked like a similar shirt), one of the other investigators or the child of one of the investigators who was in the house. Although they all denied this to my knowledge
I will always be a huge sceptic.
The major issue I have with any haunted house or location is that it’s always because people were murder or died there.
People die all over the shop everywhere in towns villages and cities. There would be ghosts and haunting literally everywhere
To me it doesn't look like eyes glowing in that picture. It looks like a kid wearing glasses and the glare is from the flash of the camera.
One thing I never thought of till now is why did they not look into Ronnie’s claims of abuse? If it was a woman or child they’d focus on that.

In an interview, Christopher Lutz said that his Uncle and Aunt visited them for a time and the aunt saw a little boy in their room upstairs. Like the one in the ghost boy photo. She called him the blue boy because his face looked blue.

I have my own personal paranormal experience that still confuses me to this day since I cannot explain the incident since it scientifically shouldn't have happened.
If you look closely at the "boy" photo, you can see it is someone wearing what they used to call "cat eye" glasses. I've read it was actually Lorraine Warren and the glow was the reflection of light off her glasses. Who knows for sure

Personally I think it was definitely a child. No adult man's face is that small frankly. Thus I think they had a kid in there for the photo despite what the Warrens claimed. After all they were clearly not above such chicanery were they. I mean, look at their museum. LOL.
