For those that have iron absorption issues-1 tbsp of unsulphured organic blackstrap molasses has about 20% of your rda. I have 1-2 a day dissolved in warm water and 4-5 prunes and I have no trouble with my iron anymore.
This will help so many people (including myself) that have a hard time getting enough iron. Thank you!
You are such a ray of sunshine🥹🌈☀️🫶
Thank you for launching this video🥲🤗...getting enough iron from plant-based foods is one of my biggest concerns.
I have iron deficiency since childhood. We don't know why, doctors cannot find the reason. When I was omnivore, I didn't have any issue, but when I turned vegan many years ago, I started to have problems...I take supplements of iron and vit C every three months more or less, plus my intake of good food and my iron level is good now 🙂
I thought the calcium in soy made iron absorption challenging… thanks for this video!
My iron stores (ferritin) were at a 4 due to chronic covid infections due to not being able to develop covid antibodies. I could not get my iron up with food and supplements. Got a couple of iron infusions and I finally feel better!
It can be really hard and tricky. Especially some women struggle despite all the right food (including if you eat meat) and supplements. I'm not one of those women, but I know several, including my M-I-L.
Thank you so much! That was very informative. Have you done a day in eating with how much protein you are getting each day? If so can you repost it! If not can you do one for protein? Thank you so much!
Yep! It’s from about a month ago. Will do more if you guys want
When I was a vegetarian I had chronic anaemia, but once I went vegan I was never anaemic again. Can anyone explain this?! 😅 Is it the case that vegan diets are even higher in iron than a vegetarian one?
Dairy impedes iron absorption.
I am loving this science-based, down-to-earth, practical how-to. You're an absolute star, Jenné.
Thank you from my heart. I am gathering as much information as I can about becoming vegan and this really helped me….I plan to start my journey very soon.
There's a channel focusing on plantbased and nutrition called Plant Chompers. No recipes or very practical advice and tips like Sweet Potato Soul, but focus on nutrition. There's a very good video on iron, but I think it was made a couple of years ago.
I hope you make the switch soon! I was on the fence about it for years but 3 months ago I took the plunge and it has made such a big difference in my life I wish I had done it sooner. Blessings for your own vegan journey!
I have low iron when I had my emergency c section I had to get a blood transfusion to boost my iron
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Iron deficiency can lead to organ failure. That’s how serious it is peeps
Polyphenols in green tea and black coffee can hinder iron uptake, the effect disappears if you wait an hour to have your post prandial cuppa though.
Love your channel and great health information!!!
Thank you great ideas - can you give suggestions on how to include iodine into a vegan diet please?
1) use iodized salt when you cook.
2) eat seaweeds (nori sheets, seaweed snacks, laver for putting in soup, kombu for making broth, wakame in salad/soup, dulse/kelp that are sold in big salt shakers for sprinkling on things). Don't overdo it though, too much iodine is also bad and seaweed can have a lot of iodine.
3) if you can't do either, just take a supplement: it's easy and they're super cheap.
Thank you for the interesting video and recipes💕
I worry I’m actually doing more harm eating whole grains and legumes because of the phytic acid.
Studies consistently show that whole grains and legumes are good for health and longevity. Even if some individual component of them is harmful, it seems pretty clear that on the balance they are beneficial. We can't judge whole foods based on one component, because they contain literally thousands of different molecules.

Yet another very helpful vid! Thanks for sharing! Continued success to you, Beautiful!!!
Love these videos ❤
Saving this for when I get my period ❤
Thank you for making these videos. I am also raising a vegan kid (3) so I always think about his nutrition ❤
You are so pretty Jenne!!
I would love to see a video like this for protein. I try to get 30g of protein per meal and being vegan it’s been hard . Sometimes having to get protein shakes
Rice and beans it´s so delicious, so brazilian food!
yummmm! ty for sharing
I ate a cat
This came at just the right time. I’m looking to go whole food plant based (not sure I can do full vegan because I use raw honey in tea) and I have a long history of anemia. There’s a good chance I’ll still need supplements because I have celiac so I don’t absorb anything super well.
You might need iron transfusions. Your ferritin is too low. Even too low within the iron deficiency category.
I'm glad that you did a video focusing on iron. I've had chronic iron deficiency for decades. Once (years and years ago) my Dr had me eating liver and taking an iron supplement while drinking orange juice. After seeing my iron levels not getting any better it was recommended that I eat calf liver instead. Which I was told was better than cow liver. That also didn't help my iron levels. In the end I ended up having several blood and iron transfusions. I was told I was deficient in both iron and potassium. I've added foods like bananas and sweet potatoes to my diet. I also like chickpeas, lentils, sunflower seeds, nuts and oatmeal.
Try adding 1-2 tbsn of unsulphured organic blackstrap molasses in warm water! It has done wonders for me. Also 4 or 5 prunes a day also help!
@@HillLeeHill I've never heard of unsulphered blackstrap molasses. I'll have to look into that. I've seen hematologists and had several tests done. But nothing ever seemed to fix the anemia or potassium deficiency. So thanks for a possible solution.
@@EmorettaRobinson Yeah I was told that I would need a transfusion but I did like 2 tbsn, 3 times a day for a week or two and I doubled my numbers and my doc was shocked! She had never heard of it before either! No transfusion needed.
@@HillLeeHill that's wild! I mean I've done everything from drinking wheatgrass shots, juicing fresh beets (mixed with other veggies which was delicious), eating liver, taking supplements, seen numerous Dr's. And no one mentioned that. Again thank you. I've googled it and have read about it. Now I'm gonna buy it. I appreciate this.
@@EmorettaRobinson No worries!!! I totally understand. I was the same, I tried all that plus I made all these herbal tinctures and teas...all I can say is yuck! LOL I really hope this works for you like it does for me! I even tried 23 and me to see if there was some kind of genetic mutation that could be identified but so far they don't even know! Oh and the whole add vit. C "hack" does not for me but make me laugh at it's ineffectiveness for me! :)
I need iron my body low on it
How is baby J?
❤❤
😋😋😋💕
Good+
I had anemia as a meat eater but not as a vegan.
Thanks S.P.S.
You are vegan *and you love tennis? Girrrrl , let's hang out! 😅
you label yourself as an animal ? wow.. ok um great meal recipes tho
It's a fact though? It only has a negative association because people use it as a $lur, because they think they're above other animals.
I stopped eating plant based, feel stronger, More grounded, human…. Humans Are all eaters… and i need all…. I Buy only organic free range Meat, and wild Fish… blood Group diet matches my natural gravings
