*We use the **Bestt.Digital** projector along with the Amazon Firestick which enables us to pair with an external bluetooth speaker. It's been super fun, especially during COVID.*
I bought my first Hitachi projector in 2001 when home theatre projectors were in there infancy. Brightness and contrast ratios were low, but with the curtains closed it worked great when watching movies with my Pioneer Laser Disc player. Projectors today have a lot more technology in them and of course are a lot brighter, my next purchase will be a laser projector. They use lasers for the light source and are super bright, good for bright areas like living rooms etc. Whilst top end home theatre projectors are more expensive, they give an amazing picture with excellent contrast ratio and a much bigger screen than any TV. To help the picture appear brighter for smaller / older projectors, it's ideal to have the room as dark as possible. Either painting walls and the ceiling black (floor should be dark carpet) will allow the light to be absorbed. If you can put dark or black curtains around the walls it will also help with sound absorption (less echo). Thanks for the great video, very useful for beginners!
1 year ago I did this setup thanks to this video. I have a 110 with grey screen in a smaller room and for the price I have zero regrets! The mount that he used is great too! Thanks
Really great explanations, thanks dude. I have never dealt with projectors or their screens, but a potential customer needs theirs repaired, so this video is really useful info!
Man, thank you so much for this review! I am planning on buying a good Projector. Your review is really so in depth. I really like how many time you put in your video's and how you explain everything so well! As of today, you have a new subscriber ! :-D
Nice set up. I actually got the BenQ HT2150st with the same top mount protecting on a 135" screen. Every time I go back to watching regular TV on my 60" I'm just like..... DAMN this TV is SMALL lol
Its all good and shit BUT... HDR and some other options are must to have for a gamer today... So...i myself have the optoma hd20 and now with xbox one x i am about to buy a 4k hdr gaming monitor because size doesn't getting shit done.
I really appreciate you putting this video up on RUclips . I've never purchased a projector before and have been agonizing over which model to get and your video has been most helpful !
Old video, however, all I can say is "Welcome to the Family". Stopped using projectors back in 2014. On my third one now after doing some exploring. Currently using an Epson 2040 1080p. Pretty freaking solid for $599. All you need now is a solid surround sound system with a black diamond screen from screen innovations.
Lol! I was rewatching your video above, specifically toward the end where you are watching the racing at 8:19. I didn't notice the first time but you, or whomever is on the couch, was moving his head left, or right, in conjection with what the car was doing. Now thats what I call immersive.
I am very poor but i enjoy looking at new devise that i still came see and dream of having maybe in another life time...What do ypu think....Thank you very much...
Enrique Gonzales be thankful for the things u have. I know it looks like this is all big and cool, but once you get it you won’t be happy. Besides even if you did want this, if you invested in it, you could possibly afford it. A lot of projectors are cheap, same for projection screens, I know it looks like millions, but it honestly takes that huge
Enrique Gonzales you can find cheaper ones. There's one at Walmart for 150 that's HD and 3D. It's not as good as that one but it'll do the job. There's even mini ones for like 50 bucks on Amazon
+Enrique Gonzales It's all an Illusion.. Things never leave you feeling Content, long term.. and if you get Loans you end feeling worse than when you had very little.. Happiness is already inside you..
i have the Acer H7550BD DLP 1080p Projector, great bit of kit! i’ve got it ceiling mounted projecting onto a 64” screen, it’s sound output is fantastic (built in DTS)
Very descriptive video. I was thinking to myself, "I wonder what he mounted the projector arm to" and then later in the video you showed how it was done by simply placing a piece of wood up there and mounting the projector to it. Thank you for going through the whole process, I want to learn how do these type of projects and picked up some very helpful tips. I also like the setup and the fact you were playing some battlefield on there, makes me wanna get one.
cool glad you enjoyed! btw, i wasn't playing bf on there, although you easily could, i was simply watching a in game recording of me playing on my pc.......btw, you may enjoy this video if you liked the one above: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=itD_7dFcPU0
Hey there, you should paint that dark blue colour you have on the side wall around the screen as well. You will be amazed how much more it makes the image pop.
thats a good idea. i believe it too, but for it will throw the balance in the room off though in my opinioin, since the wall opposite is also white.i probably should have done that wall and the opposing wall in blue instead of the way i did it!
Derrick Gordon really long HDMI to an HDMI splitter you can put where you have your game station/DVD player etc. Then run a really long aux cord from the projector to your around
If you want to have any sort of fun expedience gaming on a projector, you NEED to have an hdmi go direct from projector to game console. Then using an optical cable to get audio. Passing through a receiver creates a huge amount of lag
I built an acoustically transparent screen with material I purchased from Dazian a company that supplies material and supplies to theaters and movie theaters, I wanted the speakers behind the screen which makes for a neater installation, I built a 120 inch screen for about 75 bucks.
12:42 painted wall vs 13:05 special screen -> Similar apearance in this video. Save money on the special screen, place a melamine board with special projector paint on the wall. Paint the first roof panels black to avoid reflections
He's right i have a older model projector bulbs are spendy a out 460.0$ and its got to be LCD/HD or you just wont get a crisp bright colorful picture. Did a great job on the room and i hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor. Go Hawks
Hey I just came here for nostalgia sake... This is the cat that got me started in home theater years ago and I post about your help on my other youtube but since then they have crapped all over my old channel and I can't get in anymore. So I'm back though. Thanks again man
Hey man, i thrift shop for all sorts of audio stuff. Get yourself a great used AVR at a Savers or Goodwill and hook it up to some inexpensive speakers from Monoprice. A system this cool deserves good surround sound. Unless you get really lucky, great matching speaker sets aren't very common at thrift stores.
I expected to see the T22 here too … we buyed some for the company and went really smooth and very economic: but what really surprised me was the customer service… we got one who has a minor problem sith the resolution and the firmware was sended to us in less than a day... really cool for a overseas product. Great vid :)
very welcome, I just saw you other lights on the ceiling and figured it would be nice and not expensive, I've learned a lot from your video I appreciate it . very detailed
Bruh, this was an EXCELLENT vid! Did you use half of a two-car garage??? Actually, that's what I'm thinking about doing, if not, I'll use the whole garage and make it a pool, game-room combo, and build another garage next to it....
have you try hooking up its analog audio out to a bluetooth audio device that pairs with a receiver? it works well by just connecting the receiving end to those pc speaker that comes with a sub woofer.
excellent video. thanks for the inspiration I have ceiling tiles in the basement as well. the board across is genius, but im curious, does the board slide around much?
I’m starting to get 100 inch screen and a projector and I’m just waiting to get it but you’re right it’s a lot cheaper than going out and buying 100 inch color TV but the projector is like cheaper than normal TVs there is there yet you have to clean the screen or what can I use to bite the dust off of it or stuff like that
Not a bad set up, but a little more research would have paid off. If you ever replace it, consider an ultra short throw near wall projector, they are much, much brighter because they are right up near the wall, and you could have used the grey screen which is much better for contrast. But you didn't make any mistakes, just might have done a little better.
Hey man great video!! Question: how did you run the power, sound, and HDMI cords? I also have a drop ceiling but no roof outlet. Looks like you hid them very well. Thank you!!
This projector gets the job done pretty well. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
Thanks, great explanation and demo. This video is 3 years old now and I have checked on the BenQ has dropped seriously in price but does not seem available from Amazon at the moment. Are you still using it or have you replaced it ?
Hi.I have a problem with my projector. Something changes in the settings and I can see only the white screen.just now I can buy online and a don't have answers from the seller's.Can I have any ideas?
The best way to get the screen on VERY EASILY (as I had the same problem) is to leave it in a room close the door and put a fan heater in there (on high) for about 3 hours. So, setup your frame and have everything ready to go and then heat the room. This makes the material very easy to stretch (as it's now very warm).
How are you tabbing those links on google while looked at projector screens? Looks like you're dragging them to open in a new tab. Or are you using the scroll wheel? Nice setup btw.
I dnt knw when he made this video but he says he didnt have a sound system hooked up at the moment but for nearly the entire length of the video there is a sound system right next to the projector screen all the while. A tower on the left and right of the screen and a sub woofer on the floor. Definitely sounded like a sound system to me when he gave the audio sample.... 🤔Hmmm?????
hey ricardo, yeah those speakers up front are simply for music only, i don't have them hooked up to the projector at all. since i don't have a receiver i don't like to manually switch them back and forth from the chromecast (they are self powered). but i will be getting a proper surround system very soon!
I don't know much about projectors. But if I have (modern) xiaomi mi 4k laser beamer project on a dark blue wall, is that possible or does it look strange?
Cool content! What can you say about the experience of playing Battlefield 4 with this projector? Do you play on PC or PS4? Can you perceive any blur or input lag that affects the gameplay in a negative way?
i don't plya games on it, that was actually just a recording of me playing. it shoudl not have any input lag to speak of because the projector is not doing any processing on the image. i would imagine gaming on it might be tough though because really its SO big (at least for fps)
Man, you have the best 'underground' technology channel; when it comes to information and honesty, it very easy to trust your judgment/ logic on electronics. Great video man, looks awesome.
I am still using my Benq 720P projector from 2004! It gets almost daily use and I am on my third bulb. The picture is still excellent! I have taken it down and cleaned it a few times. Also the color wheel motor got noisy after about 10,000 hours or about 10 years. A very worthwhile investment.
dude, really one of the best reviews of a projector I have ever seen! Clear instructions on how you mounted the projector and set the image. Thanks, this helped me a lot.
Thank you for this video. It helped me a lot with my setup and install of my BenQ HT 3050 and 120 inch screen. My set up is almost identical to yours. Now when I'm watching my 60 inch LG it seems so tiny.
RS-232 is for control systems like Crestron Should have spent a few hundred more for a 3 Chip LCD projector which is brighter and gives you a much wider color gamut but that's just what I would have done. If I was you I would consider painting the ceiling matte black so you get less light bounce and plus it will probably make it look more like a home theater also friendly suggestion Vivid is bad for your projector because its to bright not to mention over saturated colors and unrealistic skin tones Cinema mode is best Either love seeing people build there home theaters cheers
nice thanks for the info, i actually didn't realize about the 3 chip lcd projectors, but you talking what 500 more, i was trying to hit that sub 1k price point. i had considered about that light bounce, thought it would be bother some directly overhead, but it really doesn't bother me especially not to the point of painting my ceiling black, i think that would f up my whole room vibe. but i will have to play with the modes though, thank you for the tip, you sound like you know your stuff!
C815richard honestly you want the better route, I've own lcd and dlp between both dlp was more accurate in color and looked more realistic, lcd fades over time to,
I totally disagree with the LCD suggestion. DLP projectors are far superior in black levels and overall color dynamics, in my opinion. Personally, I'll never own another LCD projector because they tend to look washed out, with terrible blacks and drab colors, especially if there's any light in the room. I've a couple LCD units, but my current one is the slightly older BenQ W1070, which is similar in specs to this unit and it's also the least expensive one I've owned, while producing the best results. I'm extremely impressed with BenQ's line of DLP projectors. If I was going to go all out and build a reference theater, I'd go with a 3 chip DLP (similar to what commercial theaters use), but those cost a fortune.
Man, you put this video together painstakingly for us. Lots of respect, lots of thanks!
It really inspires to own a projector. Finally i have decided to buy one for my home and 150inches screen.
nice!!
that is BIG

Single player campaigns i play on my 65 4k HDR samsung
And would love movies on a 120 💪

thats awesome will, you really can't go wrong with this projector, and its even less than it was when i bought it
I’ve had a projector now for 10 years. Only used 3 models and each have been great! Sports, Movies, Gaming. Just a great fun value
How much did you pay for your projector? Model? Is it better than this one on this video?
J MH Epson 2150. Better is subjective. $50 bulbs sold me and brightness!

how did you connect your gaming console to the projector while its on the ceiling? Im still trying to figure this out for myself
Derrick Gordon long ass HDMI cable most likely
You can get a 10meter hdmi cable off ebay
All devices hook into your AVR. Then you run a single hdmi from the AVR to the projector. It's called hdmi pass thru.

Hey man great video!!
Question: how did you run the power, sound, and HDMI cords? I also have a drop ceiling but no roof outlet. Looks like you hid them very well.
Thank you!!

Very well explained and set up was hard work.
Cheers.
Where did you get the couch and speakers! Great video man
* * * Looks Great....I would suggest you paint the wall behind the Screen to match the other dark wall or even better...Flat Black
Look fantastic!!....Where did the cable box wire run to??..is it in the ceiling and then ran to the cable box or video game unit?
thanks bond, yeah the cable box/appletv just runs from teh box to the projector, yeah i just happen to keep it in the ceivling
Amazing video!!! Easy to follow your instructions
Great review man! Seriously answered so many questions.
Install with BIC F12 subwoofers dude. They are extremely reasonably priced under $250 and absolutely destroy pricey subs costing in the thousands.
nice i will check them out, any recommendations for fronts?
great vid! lol were you cheering for max verstappen? man f1 on that big ass screen... must be nice!
oh yes, he is my favorite driver! and yes the f1 on the bigscreen is really so great, especially the onboard views!

Really good video. I've been finishing my basement and researching for projector/screen install. After a year would you still do similar setup?
absolutely. although if i was redoing now i think i'd pay up a little for a laser projector (or at least try one out to see if was a huge diff)
Great video. Honest and informative. That’s what people want. Thanks subscribed 👍
Nice home movies theater keep up the good work
Thanks, great explanation and demo. This video is 3 years old now and I have checked on the BenQ has dropped seriously in price but does not seem available from Amazon at the moment. Are you still using it or have you replaced it ?
Very helpful video. One question can you use wireless headphones with this projector?
yep, it has an audio outputs on it just like a tv

love your man cave
Projector = good thick curtains or blinds.
Can you plug in a soundbar in the light blue output?
Great job, what are the lights behind speaker and where did u get them
17:44 This is just awesome... If i invite friends or family over in the room like that they're gonna know there's some serious shit going on.
Brilliant video. Very helpful. Thank you.
Isn't fire stick HDMI?
So it can go bigger...badass
The LED lights provide a wonderful accent
Pretty nice projector

Do you have tips on how to hide the projected and ugly wires and things like that?
well i think i do have it hidden pretty good i think. its pretty easy to hide when its ceiling mounted

couch distance about 13 feet, the wall width of the screen is about 145 inches
Man, you have the best 'underground' technology channel; when it comes to information and honesty, it very easy to trust your judgment/ logic on electronics. Great video man, looks awesome.
hey pp, that comment means a lot, thats exactly the style of videos i'm going for. thank you. hit me up if you ever have a question about something!

Hey Tech Freshness, could you give us an update on how this beauty is holding up after almost 4 years? How's the bulb?
I guess its not holding up at all.
Very interested! I just picked up the 2050a yesterday. Seems like it's kinda old
I am still using my Benq 720P projector from 2004! It gets almost daily use and I am on my third bulb. The picture is still excellent! I have taken it down and cleaned it a few times. Also the color wheel motor got noisy after about 10,000 hours or about 10 years. A very worthwhile investment.
i bought benqmp780st 10 years ago its a short throw projector have it on a black screen still looks great,,,benq makes some good stuff
DLP projectors are good only downside is their high power consumption
This one of the best product review i have seen so far..
dude, really one of the best reviews of a projector I have ever seen! Clear instructions on how you mounted the projector and set the image.
Thanks, this helped me a lot.

Thank you for this video. It helped me a lot with my setup and install of my BenQ HT 3050 and 120 inch screen. My set up is almost identical to yours. Now when I'm watching my 60 inch LG it seems so tiny.
ha thats awesome to hear. yeah glad you liking your setup sounds great!
Thanks for the awesome video. How is it holding up over 2 years later? Any unmentioned problems since? Thanks for taking the time to make this video

19RocknRolla91 I did wonder what the specs were? Nice to see though. I also wondered how it’s connected to the pc, perhaps through a receiver?
RS-232 is for control systems like Crestron
Should have spent a few hundred more for a 3 Chip LCD projector which is brighter and gives you a much wider color gamut
but that's just what I would have done.
If I was you I would consider painting the ceiling matte black so you get less light bounce and plus it will probably make it look more like a home theater
also friendly suggestion Vivid is bad for your projector because its to bright not to mention over saturated colors and unrealistic skin tones
Cinema mode is best
Either love seeing people build there home theaters
cheers
nice thanks for the info, i actually didn't realize about the 3 chip lcd projectors, but you talking what 500 more, i was trying to hit that sub 1k price point. i had considered about that light bounce, thought it would be bother some directly overhead, but it really doesn't bother me especially not to the point of painting my ceiling black, i think that would f up my whole room vibe. but i will have to play with the modes though, thank you for the tip, you sound like you know your stuff!
D LG Except if you are susceptible to the rainbow effect and then you won't watch dlp
Epson has a laser 4k projector that blew my mind when I saw it in modia best galleria Mall
