I believe the window behind the white screen is what's causing the distortion. The pressure cause the window isn't completely sealed is slightly moving the fabric, not to mention the heat variations. Either that or you intentionally have a fan on to move the fabric cause you can definitely make out the fabric moving in the darker portions of the video.
Window is closed and air tight, and definitely no fans on in the room. I think because of it free hanging from the ceiling mount causes it to move slightly, but I highly doubt any of these are causes. I have used many projectors (including laser ones) on this screen with no distortion - you can see this from my many projector reviews in a playlist on my channel.
Gain is meaningless when projecting images. What's important is reflected light into a specific viewing angle. Ambient light rejection is the flip side of incident light reflection. They reject light from above (ceiling lights usually) and are innately gray to help with the black levels in a moderately lit room. If you are in a moderately dark room you should use a neutral gain screen as it will increase the lifespan of your projector since you can use a lower brightness setting. Thanks for the demo! Super helpful. I'm looking for a cabinet that can conceal my UST (and that doesn't cost as much as the VIVIDSTORM Monte Carlo). Do you of any?
Thank you for the comment and glad the video was helpful! I was searching around for quite a while looking for a suitable UST cabinet, but I struggled to find any decent ones that were reasonably priced too, so the only option I had to keep coming back to was the VIVIDSTORM one. There seems to be a big gap in the market for these types of cabinets tbh. Not sure if you're based in the UK, but a non-motorised version I found was this: www.richersounds.com/kinetik-klif-ust1cs-soft-black.html
I'm wondering if a laser projector with a good screen could be used for outdoor advertising during the daylight hours instead of a digital LED video wall/screen/display. Would it be bright enough in daylight/sunlight. Not that we have much of that in the UK lol
Possibly - but it would have to be a 4K native Triple Laser UST projector with a very high brightness level, but even then, it would be hard to find one thats suitable for outdoor conditions, because you risk getting dust and debris go into the projector, so probably won't be recommended. In direct sunlight (with what ever little we get in the UK), it could be hard to see still, especially from a distance.
Thanks for this. I'm potentially looking at a similar setup but am finding it impossible to see this kind of thing with my own eyes.. Did you go somewhere to see the screen in a demo before you bought or was it a gamble on your part?
I saw a couple of videos on RUclips to convince me about the difference it would make, but I didn't see it in person myself, so it was a mix of being confident based on other users reviews that it works much better, and a bit of a gamble too, if that makes sense?
Both would offer good picture, but CLR is designed for light sources coming from the ceiling above, like skylights for example, however, they're very good at absorbing light completely, up to 95% even, so they may be slightly better than ALR. But I haven't tested on specifically myself.
Thanks for the very informative review mate!. Would you be kind enough to share the source from where did you get that cabinet that encloses the projector and the floor-rising ALR screen frame nicely?
Even in a dark room you need an ALR/CLR screen. On a standard white screen most of the light from a UST projector will end up on the ceiling! If ambient light isn’t an issue you would be much better off with a standard long throw projector.
ALR is the bomb - also STLP is where its at. I am a commercial advertising and promo film maker and once we changed over to both of these we were stunned - you can watch them in daylight - the white screen is so washed out in comparison.
Hi i have question, could you recomend me some ALR screen material from aliexpress? I dont need electric screen i will biuld frame and i just need material. Thank you for help :) Or please tell me on what kind of specification should have ALR screen material?
I don't know if you're being sarcastic, so here i go with an actual answer. The Alr screens have a specific structure, which can not be replicated with paint on a wall. They have very small angled protrusions on them, which reflects light from below (the Ust) to the viewer, and shuts out light coming from above. (Ceiling lamps, part of the window light)
hello....i use a nebula capsule 3 laser.... not ust.... can you recommend a good 100” motorized screen? I don't know much about this subject, and I don't want to make a wrong purchase. Great! I have a very cheap alr screen from ebay, but the hotspot and narrow viewing angle is just horrible! Really. It's good only for 1 or 2 person. If i place myself 60-80cm to the left or right from the center, i will loose all the advantage! But from the very center it's so powerful, that i can easily watch movies outdoor on a sunny day with a simple 3.000 lumen Epson. No joke! But as i wrote it's only good for 1-2 people. So what's the next step in price and increased viewing angle (at least 30-40 degree) which is still affordable, not so expensive like this Vividstorm screen? thanks
Maybe this is the way to go if you want that massive screen and you have the massive space to display it after all, how much would a TV cost that has a screen that big? Certainly far more than a quality projector and screen but until they can guarantee it looks exactly as bright as a TV in full daylight the jury's out. If I were to replace our telly and come home with this piece of kit just to find we have to permanently close all the curtains just to watch TV....I'm a dead man!
Yeah... those prices are beyond outrageous even for the most basic UST ALR screen. Totally not worth using a projector as a day time TV IMO. I'd much rather stick with a short/long throw projector and a basic screen in the DARK. Which projectors have always done their best at. Regular TVs for day time and Projectors for night viewing.
didn't say anything about crap visuals! I'm actually similar to you but I prefer to take advantage of both. The thing is going with a short throw projector limits ones audio. No placement for the most important channel! The centre channel handles up to 90% of audio, including nearly all of the dialogue. "Sound is half the movie our ears lead our eyes to where the story lives" With that being said.. take nothing away from your from your marvellous presented video. Great speaking voice.
I am still trying to figure out what kind of screen to get for my JMGO N1 Ultra. Don’t think a screen like this would work since that projector is meant to sit on a table, chair or even the floor for optimum viewing from at least 8-14 feet away. Any suggestions?
As reviewed from a channel called TheHookUp, the N1 Ultra produces significant laser speckle on ALR Screens or any non-white screen for that matter. He said that the N1Ultra performs best either being projected into a matte white wall, or a 1.0 gain white acoustically transparent screen. I'm considering buying the N1U for myself. How's your experience with it been? Have you noticed any of the reported laser speckle?
@@YZKMNY For now, I have only used my N1U outside in my garage against a white wall. Its been awesome. Yes there is some laser speckle, but not much. @@caryroberts6748 But then the projection would be dark too (probably almost invisible I guess), these fancy surfaces reflect the projectors light but not the ambient light
Not sure if you're based in the UK, but a non-motorised version I found was this:
www.richersounds.com/kinetik-klif-ust1cs-soft-black.html
@@TrendingReviews yeah makes sense, thanks. It's a bit overwhelming with some of the screen options out there, frensel ALR vs lenticular CLR etc
Awesome review. Like the comparison between screens.
Thank you!
Hi, do you think I really need a skreen for the wemax go advance ?? the $20 portable , or it is not difference with the white wall ??
Where did you get the projector cabinet from
I've got the link in the description.
Would the picture not be better by using a CLR screen?
Both would offer good picture, but CLR is designed for light sources coming from the ceiling above, like skylights for example, however, they're very good at absorbing light completely, up to 95% even, so they may be slightly better than ALR. But I haven't tested on specifically myself.
Thanks for the very informative review mate!. Would you be kind enough to share the source from where did you get that cabinet that encloses the projector and the floor-rising ALR screen frame nicely?
Thanks for the comment bud! Yes sure - you can find them in the description of my other video here:

@@TrendingReviews Thanks!
Good review! Thanks
That screen is insanely wrinkled wow. My motorized 125" elite screen non tab tension doesnt have waves like that.
Even in a dark room you need an ALR/CLR screen. On a standard white screen most of the light from a UST projector will end up on the ceiling! If ambient light isn’t an issue you would be much better off with a standard long throw projector.
Does it make sense to use similar screen for a cheap projector like HY320?
Do I need to purchase a 3D modulator system in front of the projection lens? We are a manufacturer. You can come to us with discounted prices!
ALR is the bomb - also STLP is where its at. I am a commercial advertising and promo film maker and once we changed over to both of these we were stunned - you can watch them in daylight - the white screen is so washed out in comparison.
Yes totally agree! Thank you for sharing your experience!
what is STLP?
@@SirS001 Short Throw Laser Projector - but I meant USTLP - Ultra Short Throw!!
Hi i have question, could you recomend me some ALR screen material from aliexpress? I dont need electric screen i will biuld frame and i just need material. Thank you for help :) Or please tell me on what kind of specification should have ALR screen material?
You need to fabric paint the back of that screen black to not let light through
So what gray paint will work best?
I don't know if you're being sarcastic, so here i go with an actual answer.
The Alr screens have a specific structure, which can not be replicated with paint on a wall.
They have very small angled protrusions on them, which reflects light from below (the Ust) to the viewer, and shuts out light coming from above. (Ceiling lamps, part of the window light)
I'm curious what the model is of the media center furniture piece you have that allows for the UST and the screen to be so seamless?
I've added the link to it in the description :)
hello....i use a nebula capsule 3 laser.... not ust.... can you recommend a good 100” motorized screen?
I don't know much about this subject, and I don't want to make a wrong purchase. Your video is very interesting for me
Since I use it occasionally, not professionally, I don't want to spend too much on the screen.... let's say something that costs less than the projector :)
Hi! Yes of course - something like this would work great with the Nebula Capsule 3: geni.us/3eOIT - I hope that helps!
@@TrendingReviews ok but this is generic.... i ask a specific model :)
@@yariturchini You could check out the different models from Elite Screens, they have a lot of options - have a look on their website and see what could suit you?

Wouldnt you buy ‘tab tensioned’ screen for motorised type? 🤔
This was the only option for the screen to fit the cabinet
how were you able to square off the projection on the screen
Do you think I could attach it to my impact screen for hitting golf balls or would it still get ripped you think? I’m guessing it’s thin but idk
If would get damaged I think. It's not made for having golf balls hit it so I couldn't recommend that at all.
@@TrendingReviews like hole and marks or just holes because I could attach it flush with a impact screen and prevent holes but not marks
Thank you so much for this presentation. I wish i could offer you a beer. Pascal from Belgium
Thank you!!
So what's the next step in price and increased viewing angle (at least 30-40 degree) which is still affordable, not so expensive like this Vividstorm screen? thanks
Do you mind sharing what ALR Screen you have? Maybe a share a link? I can do some research and find what the natural next step up is for you
ALR best?
Maybe this is the way to go if you want that massive screen and you have the massive space to display it after all, how much would a TV cost that has a screen that big? Certainly far more than a quality projector and screen but until they can guarantee it looks exactly as bright as a TV in full daylight the jury's out. If I were to replace our telly and come home with this piece of kit just to find we have to permanently close all the curtains just to watch TV....I'm a dead man!
Can this (ALR) screen also be operated with a conventional projector? (e.g. HD29He)
Yep, I see why not!
Yeah... those prices are beyond outrageous even for the most basic UST ALR screen. Totally not worth using a projector as a day time TV IMO. I'd much rather stick with a short/long throw projector and a basic screen in the DARK. Which projectors have always done their best at. Regular TVs for day time and Projectors for night viewing.
The grey one looks like an ikea blackout blind to me.
Can I check what's the cabinets model with the build in alr projector and ist pojector
Cabinet model is called the VIVIDSTORM Monte Carlo. Is that what you mean? Sorry if I misunderstood the question
@@TrendingReviewsIt works too loud.😔
Smooth gray walls 🗿
Movies are 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals.
BTW that's putting it politely
NO POINT IN HAVING CRAP VISUAL AND GREAT AUDIO , BTW I WAS BEING VERY POLITE.
MY POINT BEING if i spend 3500 on a ust i want tv visuals to a reasonable point , audio can be improved at a reasonable cost
didn't say anything about crap visuals! I'm actually similar to you but I prefer to take advantage of both. The thing is going with a short throw projector limits ones audio. No placement for the most important channel! The centre channel handles up to 90% of audio, including nearly all of the dialogue.
"Sound is half the movie our ears lead our eyes to where the story lives"
With that being said.. take nothing away from your from your marvellous presented video. Great speaking voice.
I am still trying to figure out what kind of screen to get for my JMGO N1 Ultra. Don’t think a screen like this would work since that projector is meant to sit on a table, chair or even the floor for optimum viewing from at least 8-14 feet away. Any suggestions?
Vividstorm sells ALR screens for long throw projectors, they call it Obsidian. That would work for the JMGO.
I mean watching it against a painted wall is absolutely not the right thing to do, but it works for now since it is so portable. This winter though I may just get a proper screen to watch movies in the house in another room.
@@Lafiro Just ordered mine from Aliexpress at a discount. Not as low as kickstater's price but low enough for me to afford it. Excited to see what it brings to the space!
@@YZKMNY Link please! And link to that Kickstarter?
How about comparing it to a 1300 led tv?
1300 is just the screen, projector probably around 3000. So 4300 buys a very big TV.
Your matte white screen isn't mounted level. That's why it's wavy.
Good video I will go with Matt white screen because I am poor LOL
Any cheap TV will beat the screen in terms of brightness and contrast.
hey if i have x500i can i need this screen or not ??
hey - You can have any screen if you have the X500i tbh
@@TrendingReviews so this screen it is for laser projectors right
For home theater buy LG OLED 65inch its so enough.. With 100% performance better than projector+screen
I also have this, downstairs in my living room. It's great! I have the 65" LG CX. 👌🏼
When you see a bikini girl at actual scale imagine (which 65" size impossible) you know the value of size.
Luv the techinal details in rhe video👍🏽
Thanks.
Great Vdo..
No way I could pay 1300 for a screen just can see where the money is in the material to warrant the the cost
All CLR UST screens are about that price for that size. All with the sawtooth pattern that is.
the screen it self is not 8 grand the package is
thanks for the video but who watches a screen from the side 10:20 ;)
yeah my white screen looks better. all the colors pop up compared to my alr screen, and get really bright whites
good
It works too loud.😔
silver screens brand are the best and inexpensive
You took ucking 15 mins to show this simple thing man
shut the windows, use the wall for projection, use the thousands of dollars for other things
Show me a white screen with the shade open then show the the grey screen with them shut. That makes no sense for comparison.
My mind is boggling
Firstly. You are never ever going to sit at such a wide angle to watch a film.
Secondly the wall is better than your white screen. Now had me thinking
What would it look like in a non reflective grey wall. Probably about as good as your $1300 background. Tbh. They are now screens as such, more a viewing surface. Save money and paint a wall grey
