Thanks for watching the video - I need to point out a slight error I made in my description of the projector. The MAX model has an all glass lens, the Pro 2 has a 14 piece pure glass lens with one resin glass piece in it. I am sorry about the mistake I mis read the information that was sent to me. Shortcut to the kickstarter here Link: tinyurl.com/yfp5rzud
Frankly you have sold me on the Max version OMG, I just spent $3,325 AUD on a Kickstarter project and I'm not 100% sure the minimum throw distance from thescreen which is unknown to me?? Is suitable for my 4m by 3.5m dimensions room, plus I need to find a suitable screen. But I have a bit of time and hadn't anticipated buying a projector when wanting to upgrade my PC monitor and sound system. I have bought the Burson Audio Timekeeper 3i Headphone & Speaker Amplifier, I'm yet to purchase the OLED monitor and still considering which speakers to get, possibly the Sonus Faber Sonetto II G. Both upgrades will have to wait as I now need to save a Lot more money.
Terry, could you please explain in laymens terms the difference between the construction of these lens and optics in each respective unit and what it means to the consumer as far as the images displayed.
@@brucesmith1754 One had a silicon-based glass lens, and the other one has a Frankenstein-like combo for a lens: silicon based glass fused to oil-based resin (plastic). Enjoy!
World's looooooooongest Kickstarter page, bar none. They seem to have like half a dozen models, except the ones sold out already, I'll be damned if I even understand what they are selling and for how much? Also, no projecor in the world can deliver a 15,000:1 contrast ratio. Triple-panel DLP DMD DCI-class cinema projectors are happy with around a 2,000:1 CR. Way too much hype and unfounded promises here, not enought hard facts.
This is by far the best review I have seen on RUclips for the Valerion Projector. Granted, we didn’t get any testing with Calibration etc but you provided enough detail compared to all the other mediocre “reviews” on RUclips.
Excellent and simple review proves again that this is the best projector in the market today and even better with the price that is been offered in their kickstarter campaign.
For this product to compete with a traditional long throw ratio projector the case needs to be probably an inch longer and it needs a throw ratio of at least 1.6, preferably up near 2.0. If that were achieved, that would truly step on Epson and Sony toes. From a 120" screen people want to sit a decent distance from it. The easiest way to set one up is on a shelf behind you. Therefore it should ideally have a throw to achieve both outcomes. My 2c.
Valerion said on their facebook page, that they are working on an alternative Lens Kit for longer throwing distances for the max model, which can probably be bought separately. There should be an update on the matter in January 2025 at the CES.
Very nice. A lot of features and performance crammed into a very small form-factor. Most 4K projectors are huge monsters. I recently replaced my aging Sony VPL-VW60 (1080p) with a native 4K JVC DLA-NP5 - and I was unable to reuse the hush-box I had for the Sony - due to the enormous size of the NP5. Two questions on the Valerion Pro 2: 1. Is this a native 4K? I read somewhere that the panels are 1080p - and that 4K is achieved via pixel shifting. 2. This is probably a dumb question, but why is half the lens area covered with the company logo? Even if it doesn't affect the image, it just seems odd to be purposely covering up part of the lens area. Thanks for posting this review video. I'll definitely be following this one as people get hands-on experience with it.
I hear amazing things about this projector. Especially what I'm hearing about the ridiculously spec'ed contrast ratio. Cant wait to see the comparison reviews to the new Hisense C2Ultra and the Horizon S Max. Also, That projector looks heavy. How well do you think a tripod ball mount would support this mounted from the ceiling? How does Valerion Pro 2 compare to the high end JVC models that you guys often use for reference?
There will be people who do all that testing and comparison when these are out in the wild, you cant really do that for this kind of video, hence the comments about it not being a full review
Great video, how is the black level and contrast compared to a Hisense px3 pro? Or another projector that you have already tested? Does the black level come close to an OLED screen?
I haven’t tested the Hisense so I can’t say. I can say this pj was giving me an image as good as the best UST projectors I have had here on a much larger screen and it’s a white screen not designed like an ALR screen to help boost contrast. The room was fully black though so that obviously helps. It had blacks as good as I have seen from PJ’s from my testing likely the best but it’s hard to say without some side by sides to look at. Nah of course it’s not OLED like that will never be the case but you appreciate the image for other things
@PursuitPerfectSystem I guess this projector kind of falls between short throw and standard throw. Typically anything with a throw ratio of .4 to 1 would be short throw while anything over 1 would be standard throw is my understanding
Hi, an excellent personal review. I'm considering the Max to replace my old Optimo up on my ceiling for my 150" ceiling mounted screen. But it seems to only have a flimsy 6mm screww thread in the middle on the underside for ceiling mounting, which is even smaller than a standard 1/4" camera tripod thread. Can you tell me if it has the standard 3 to 4 screw hole ceiling mounting points. As I cannot believe that a flimsy 6 mm screw thread is going to be sufficient to saftely hold up on the ceiling this 7.5kg of weight, let alone be sturdy enough to cope with any vibracion. if not have you actually tried mounting this on a ceiling. Thanks Ian
It had the the same thread as you would get on a modern digital camera. They are going to sell a ceiling mount system so maybe it has a bracket for a more secure fit. Or maybe camera products could work to give you a more secure mounting. Not sure about anything more for this at the moment
@@PursuitPerfectSystem The valerion tech in the Facebook group said the thread is M6*8. That is not a camera tripod thread which is 1/4" witworth 20 threads per inch that's 6.35mm not a 6mm M6. Have you actually tried it. Mind I doubt if either is sufficient for 7.5kg. looked at their mount seems to only have the single thread.
My bad explanation, I used it on this camera tripod head www.manfrotto.com/uk-en/xpro-ball-head-in-magnesium-with-200pl-plate-mhxpro-bhq2/ Which has a plate that connected to the projector I normally connect to my cameras - I use a camera cage so that might be the confusion here sorry
What models of Screens would you recommend for day & night time viewing? Do you think it's worth to buy for it the Fresnel ALR Screen offered in bundle pack at Kickstarter?
You can have the same screen for night and day I think, if you dont have a dark room (dark doesn't mean lights off curtains closed it means dark with the light son) then an ALR screen will massively benefit you and I would consider it yes
@PursuitPerfectSystem I know that ALR screen would be good, but which one exactly? What kind of screen did You use for review? Which manufacturer and what model?
What a stunner of a projector. Hope you get the max in your hands as well. I remember commenting a month ago on another review product you did, where I remember calling that other product a B or tier 2 product. This is definitely not that, this looks to be tier 1, has everything, and offers a better overall experience than the products from the big 3... 👏👏👏
The fact that it isn't tethered to a damn gimbal is already a huge plus over the Hisense C2 line. And including standard quarter inch mounting threads means they get it.
I was hoping to side by side them, but there was no chance for that here. They have a bit of a different look from memory. The Valerion is cleaner and clearer in som ways and manages the extremes of the image better I feel and I think maybe the JMGO is doing some noise reduction to the image, but dont hold me to that. The colours are more saturated on the JMGO but I dont know if thats a better thing or a worse, I think worse as its not giving such a good colour gradation, its all a bit thicker but I am not 100% on this without a side by side. The Valerion has a much better menu and better setup and picture controls and far more format support for HDR and the menus are much faster and snappier to use always I think the brightness of the two are fairly similar, I think JMGO has a little more black crush so that makes the black look more solid on the screen, so it looks the more contrasty, but I think that is an illusion as the better gradation of the Valerion brings more out of the image. The JMGO is quieter, a bit smaller and you get the gimbal and it costs less.
No because contrast is the difference between light and dark so showing more in the darks is better but your eye can be tricked iswhat I meant. So a thicker less detailed black can look more contrasty when in reality it’s not. Hope that makes sense.
I wonder what warranty service in UK would be like. My first three projectors (dumb, long throw) were flawless for 5+ years, but my UST smart projector failed in weeks.
How sensitive are you to the rainbow effect(RBE)? There is alot of RBE visible, but maybe its exaggerated by filming the screen? For instance, the statue in the panning shot at 13:10 has massive green missmatch. And just a second or two before that, all the black suit people has alot of red missmatch.
Thanks for this review!! Quick question about placement of the projector. What tripod product are you using in this video where you have the Valerion mounted and angled down? I have a component shelf with different height tiers currently placed behind my couch as I dont ceiling mount. The Epson 5050ub has insane lens shift and currently sits at the top, but Im hoping it wont be too complicated with the Valerion given no lens shift. The product in your video looks like a great solution if you can point me in that direction! Thanks in advance!
I am using a manfrotto camera tripod head which is likely not ideal for a shelf. The Mac has lens shift otherwise the ok will auto keystone, like how you see happen in the video
Great review of the Valerion projector Terry. At the start of the video you mentioned that it had 3 lasers (RGB not a single laser with a spinning color wheel), but I can't seem to find out what type of display image sensor it is employing, DLP or LCD? Thanks for the content Terry!
This was an interesting video i would love to see the FULL review once u get your own sample AND VIDEOGAMES on it in 120hz or 4k60hz using the 2.1HDMI Very fun content u have been posting
Yes in the Pro 2 the keystone is digital, in the max you get lens shift so you would need less keystone but I assume still some that would be digital. They have not mentioned anything else on that.
I think it was in Maximum most of the time as I wanted the most bright and punchy image possible but yes it was enough. Remembering it’s an AT screen so you lose light as it has holes in it
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks! I have a Stewart Studiotek G4 but it’s still in the box. I also have a Vividstorm ALR so I was trying to decide if I just use that or unbox and setup the G4
Check the ALR is not designed for UST Projectors as it might not be ideal for this normal throw PJ. If you dont have a black room, ALR screen will be better I think
Normally the gain is lower on an ALR screen so as long as your not shinning on a crazy large screen this should easy have the brightness and any help with contrast is normally a good thing. If your room is bat cave then maybe the higher gain screen will be better for HDR but I am really guessing here. Sorry it’s impossible for me to say
@@Leo-qy2hi I don’t normally allow linking to other channels. That test doesn’t tell you anything different to what I said in this video - it supports everything I said and I tested the projectors much harder on a really big sized screen
@@Leo-qy2hi yeah I've backed the pro 2 on Kick Starter, if The Hook Up says its no good i'll cancel it. Looks better and its $1,000 cheaper than the xgimi in Australia, Just have to wait an extra month for it.
Great review, I put down the 50 $ at their website before the Kickstarter launch, and I intend to get the max, but what is curious to me no one is taking a little meter to the screen to measure the output. Or was it a condition from Valerion to not do it, as those are pre-production models?
I could have measured it, in fact they waited to send me the unit until it was nearly final because they knew I was going to push it hard but I don't have the fully accurate tools and skills to do the measurements. People are going to of course and by then you wont care as you will have it and will love it I am sure.
@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks for your feedback. I'm waiting till the end of the Kickstarter campaign to commit, as I bet in a month time there will be even more reviews coming out.
@@AwesomeSauceShow Just wait for November 8th. @thehookup will have the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 comparison against a bunch of other 2024 long throw projectors. He is by far the best on RUclips when it comes to showing calibration settings, etc.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem yeah but after your review, even while I was watching it, the remaining backers for the Max edition dropped from 16 down to 13 then I backed it, so Max 12 slots remaining. Yes its a hell of a lot of money for me, I Really hope it doesn't prove a lost gamble. The product looks like its ready for production so hopefully it goes as planned. Edit, currently at time of this comment, 29 slots remain as they offer 1025 not 1,000 as I assumed for the Max model. Its the great review and product that's done it. If you do want this projector, I highly recommend you purchase immediately.
I have about 1,000 questions but almost all of them are more appropriate to direct to the manufacturer, so here's my three for this venue: 1. I don't stream at all -- any kind of content, through any platform, on any tech -- I have 5,000 film titles on a local, physical drive. Is this projector going to be able to live with that, or am I going to get bombarded with messages saying I need to connect it to something "smart" so that it can load scripts on itself that forcibly self-destruct the rig in nine months with error messages saying some part of the system is "not supported" anymore? (And, bonus question, why exactly does a single person anywhere on earth put up with that crap? Y'all do realize that "not supported" is code for "We've arbitrarily decided that it's time for you to give us more money for the same thing you already have," right?) 2. Nearly all of my content is old -- some of it is 720p and some of it is 480p and some of it is even lower-res than that. I gather that this projector did a good job with RUclips but I've had *really* bad experiences trying to view 480p content on newer tech in the past. A 4k short-throw laser projector made my 480p movies look like they'd been shot with a potato. My current projector is an Optoma HD27x, which is about seven years old and looks really nice with this content, and Reddit seems to think my upgrade path is through a gently used JVC DLA-X70. Will I think the Valerion is an upgrade over both of those choices, even when watching 480p movies? 3. There's some commentary here about comfort-level with pre-ordering via Kickstarter and, given questions 1 and 2, it won't surprise anyone here to know that I'm squarely in the not-entirely-comfortable camp, but what's missing is a discussion of just how much more expensive the projector would be if I chose to wait. Anyone have any thoughts? If it's the difference between $2k USD and $3k USD, I might be prepared to hold my breath and take the plunge, but not if the upcharge is a couple of hundred dollars; I can keep the Optoma and save up to pay the premium when the Valerion is conventionally available. TIA.
The Pro2 models is $2100 on Kickstarter and they claim their retail prices will be $3500. They're part of a company already producing projectors (AWOL Vision). This is mostly using Kickstarter for publicity, not for raising funds for development - I'd think you're safe. Just a few days left to choose
"We don't care about its looks, just its performance" Oh no, Yes the performance is the Most important aspect But, whichever projector I buy will be on display and a beautiful design such as this is a huge bonus and would sway me over an fugly but slightly better projector option. I don't really want an ugly lump of a projector in my room but if I am going to, why not have a beautifully designed one.
pretty sure we would NOT notice if they used this projector in a cinema near our homes. we wouldnt notice that they have been using this one or not by the specs of it seems its just amazing like that
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks, I have the AWOL 3500 and am wondering if the Valerion Pro 2 is enough of a upgrade or is it just similar enough with different throws?
@@abefroman. I dont think any of these Laser lifestyle projectors can beat out the AWOL or any of the higher rated USTs. But this Valerion unit appears to close the gap a bit with significant improvements in brightness and contrast. I think Dolby Vision certification is setting the next level in lifestyle projector standards.
This Valerion I think is as good as the 3500 Pro - they are likely very similar but different on some ways with some pros and cons which has moved the smaller regular throw projectors up to that level for less money which is how fast this sector of this market is developing at the moment. It crazy but its all hitting the content quality limiting plateau. That is what competition does and enough overall sales to push the manufacturing quantities up to get the overall costs down.
Is a dlp with high black levels and low contrast. For a dlp the contrast is good but not even rremotely close to a JVC which even at its worst settings is around 30k:1 NATIVE vs the 4000:1 of this dlp And black levels are way deeper on the jvc The Sony is better than this but not as good as the JVC.
I have an Epson LS11000. I reserved a Max for next year and will test it. If it's better, I'm going to sell the LS11000. I was very disappointed by the LS11000 black levels, so hopefully the Pro 2 max is better.
From my perspective: No. It might be better, but it will still be a bad joke. I could puke watching all these "reviews", which are clearly paid by VisionMaster. As this thing was something completely new on the market and as if no one else before tried to implement a dynamic IRIS / adaptively dimmed laser ... ... And in the end, its a chinese product for even over 2000 bucks (which is still expensive compared to used-market prices of REALLY good projectors.... The ones which deserve a new lamp and a second handed life) that will last for about 8 month before something will terribly go wrong. I know what i talk about, i have had my experience with the more expensive, chinese "high-end" products. Just for a comparison: - I had an Epson TW6600 ... with a static on-of contrast of 1'300:1, but a dynamic iris that rises it to about 13'000:1 .... i was disappointed. - I had an Epson TW9200 ..... with a static of 8'000:1, and a dynamic IRIS up to 50'000:1 .... and even that didn't satisfy me. - Now i got an JVC X7000 // RS500 ... and THIS solved many of my problems. The color accuration while being calibrated is gorgeous, and the black level is just black. This thing has a static on-off contrast of 120'000:1 and a dynmamic IRIS contrast up to 1mio:1 ... (These values are often confirmed by professional reviews by practical values from 50'000:1 to 80'000:1 contrast ratios. Some state, that the 120'000:1 will only be reached, if the second, manual, iris will be completely closed. In the most cases this is not an option due to the 300 Lumens in that case. What i want you to consider is: - 4'000:1 as a static contrast is a joke - 16'000:1 with "EBL" is an even more funny joke (only factor 4 with laser-dimming? seriously? How did they realize that, via a simple resistor on the Laser-light?) - 2000 Bucks are money! - This product, even if its chinesium or not, will suffer from the missing experience that this company has on the market. Maybe the cooling is not sufficient for the Panels, maybe some important settings are not accessible. Maybe the in-picture contrast, which mostly depends on the optics, will be horrible (no review i have seen measures it), maybe a good calibration will not be possible (Remind: You cant calibrate a projector by hand, using the RGB values. A dedicated software-connection to the projector firmware has to, because of the panel non-linearities and so on) I have read a review, in which the 3000 lumens were lowered to 1500 lumens during a calibration (which really speaks its own language! For a laser projector, where others only loose 20% of their brightness), and after the calibration, a 100% white picture still had a huge green overshoot.
Nice video, thank you :) When you are saying "This is one of the best projectors I've ever seen", are you comparing it to other lifestyle projetors at around the same price segment, or also to flagship models of e.g. JVC and Sony?
Compared to everything I have seen, including the commercial cinema, I have seen a lot of PJ;s in peoples homes working as a system Dirac Live calibrator for a few years. However I have not seen everything and there are a lot of very high end big and expensive units out there so take that into account
The Hisense is not quite at this level, 1600ansi brightness would be ok for 100inch but you need more for larger screens to get real punch. Especially if you’re using an ALR or low gain screen for more contrast. It’s also probably more like 1000ish contrast most of the projectors in that price range are. Still very good to watch though for sure
I have a BenQ HT5550, and I do not know how the specs relate. Would the PRO 2 be a significant difference/upgrade? I mean from looking at HT5550 it says 100,000:1 Contrast with brightness of 1800 lumens. But it's also a pixel shift 4k so not native. Please advise.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem HAHAHA WE HAVE THE SAME PROJECTOR :D i think it's the same model but depends on where you're from it's the HT5550/W5700 (gotta love the naming convention)
@@PursuitPerfectSystem that said, would you mind doing a comparison video, especially for those who are more of a visual learner rather than a spec comparison. Thanks!!!
Was your camera underexposing or is that actually how the contrast and black floor actually looked in person? Because damn.. I watched this on an oled and I could barely see the black bars at all on wide content. If this is a sister company to AWOL then I hope the new max visions are that good as I'd prefer a UST.
I didn’t deliberately underexpose the image but what you see here is not exactly the same as in the flesh. I try and get it as close as I can. Of course a projector doesn’t give you OLED black levels but this PJ doesn’t brush the blacks which is great.
The problem is with high lumens projectors and the camera recording. Each camera has a limited dynamic range, so the brighter the projector is and you set the correct exposure in the camera so the highlights are not overexposed the shadows get too dark or clipped even. There is no way to show the black levels as in reality with a footage. At the end is your display/monitor which has it's own minimum black level that could not display the blackest level if it's a poor quality panel and the projector was a JVC for example. (Unless you have an OLED monitor).
After your review of the XGIMI Ultra I bought one to try (I own a Sony 5000es). It was so bad with too many issues to even list. I sent it back after a week. Since then I stopped watching your reviews as I simply don’t trust them. Call me skeptical on this one too. They claim 4ms in 1080p/240… sounds good but does it turn off all the processing to get that frame rate? Then are we just stuck with the poor native contrast at high frame rates. What about 4k/120 frame rate and processing? It also seems to lack throw and might be hard to setup in a traditional home theater.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem On a side note I have been a longterm view of your channel and like your audio reviews…. Just giving honest feed back. Comment below regarding the XGIMI Ultra. -in game mode the colors were locked in some kind of cooked vivid mode and could not be adjusted fully. -if you used the digital zoom at all the light output would stay the same size but the picture would shrink, leaving a “light” box around the image. Basically you had to mount it in the perfect position to not use digital zoom. -sparkle. I use an all white screen 1.1 gain. -horrendous black levels, worst I have ever seen. Felt like a 1990s rear projection tv.
Fair cop - the grey border around the image is a downside of DLP projection which is why digital reframing of the image is not perfect, however you can lose this into the black area surrounding the screen. Some PJ's are better at this than others which is interesting. That is where the optical zoom of the Valerion Max will fix this issue I am sorry about not covering the gaming side of projectors I just dont have the experience there so I didn't know about that otherwise I would have mentioned it. These are the issues that get sorted with firmware if they are fed back. I didnt think the black level was that bad, but the image was a little mushy, however the Benq projector and Sony I had before both cost 3x and 6x as much and were more mushy so that was not on my radar. Imagine seeing a projector of that form factor and price for the first time and on a 4 metre screen up against the sony and it wasn't that much difference. The Sony was better but not that much considering the huge price and size difference. However I could move the projector to fit the image size for less digital manipulation maybe that is part of the difference. Now I have seen a lot more of these PJ's I have more experience to speak about them for good and bad. The Horizon Ultra was the first one, sorry it exceeded my expectations for what it costs.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem yes fair enough and no worries. These “consumer” products might not be quite ready for the gear heads though. I think some of these companies should put the lifestyle projector in a long throw body as an alternate model. It would solve at lot of problems for people with dedicated theaters. I think this tech is great and I would love to see pressure on Sony and JVC to bring down the their prices. They both have gotten a little nutty. I am focused on audio (2ch). My Sony 5000es has some issues too and is way over priced for the pictures quality but I got it new for 1/2 off and I am content for $3000. At $6000… no thanks.
Hey Terry, great review, could you possibly "peg" the value proposition here in terms of competitors (not at price, just sheer performance level). Is it as good as the JVC 7? 9? That new fangled Epson thing that people rave about? Just helps to get a sense of the overall performance. Also a little more detail on the lens manufacture would be great.
Without doing a side by side with those PJ's I cant really say much. You should expect to get better performance from JVC £10k or £25k projectors of course, but all I can say is I saw the 9 last year on a 5 metre screen and the 7 on a 120 inch screen and then I saw this on a 4 metre screen and I had the reaction you saw. The value is what it can do for the size and cost, its shocking how far this type of PJ has come. The value is how it can fit into your life being so small and easy to setup etc. I would say common sense still applies as it always does but you do get a lot here for your money.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Valerion is still working on it for the max model, so there is a possibility. I hope they'll give us an update at CES in January 2025.
I have a 150 in screen for 5 years now. Next upgrade is the Apple Vision Pro googles, 3D, eye-tracking, I can be sitting in a plane and feel like I'm outdoors! ---- Apple Music lossless quality
Yes I do for several reasons, picture and contrast but also the menus and how everything works and the excellent support for all the HDR formats. The Dangebi is still an excellent choice for less money though.
Does anyone know where you can find the dimensions of the MAX model, I'm interested to see if it would fit in a specific place within my home, looks to be a game changing product, especially at the kick starter price.
I'm seeing all kinds of weird colour separations in this video, but I thought you said there was no colour wheel? Am I just seeing the result of it being filmed by a camera? I'm sensitive to the rainbow effect. Regardless, the colours, contrast, and sharpness are beyond belief.
Yes it’s the camera refresh rate and this video frame rate being totally different to the source content it’s actually very good considering the difference. It should be worse
My issue with these Laser projectors is... £3000 and the 'lamp' lasts 20,000 hrs... i use my PJ daily as TV, PC screen etc... So how much is it to replace the light source? or after ~20k you just bin it and get another? i think for daily drivers like me, bulbs are still the most economical for those who dont have budget to buy new every 2 years (my PJ gets 6-8000 hrs on a bulb per year)
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Well, that's in ideal terms, but there's no telling how many individual laser sources (36 overall, if I'm not mistaken) will last that long. So yeah, there's room for concern after the warranty expires.
Are you sure about the 6,000-8000 hours per year? That is an average of 16-22 hours per day. That seems excessive. Even if you watched your projector eight hours every single day never missing a day you’re under 3000 hours per year.
That is fair enough and your right, but in the same token your bulb projector could develop a fault outside its warranty too, so there is always some doubts and inevitably some people will be unlucky but thats all tech. Laser light sources in projectors have been around a while now so its not new tech, it would be much more expensive if it was new. I would be most worried about the heat but these projectors produce far less heat for more brightness than bulbs which is likely why they can be so small. So heat is not an issue here at all it barely gets warm even at max brightness on all day.
@@Toid yeah it's sometimes on 8am till 3am...some days it's not on at all...but yeh, I buy a bulb every year and I guess it depends how the PJ calculate its usage hrs based on ECO or full power etc... I think it's 1hr on full power is more than 1hr as displayed in the menu "equivalent hours". Eg menu says now. Full power: 499hrs. SmartEco: 3099hrs. Equivalent Lamp Hour 4098... So 3600 hrs actually is 4100 equivalent. Rounded Oh and, hello Toid, like your channel too ✌️
Minute 13:08 we can see the RBE around their heads.. minute 14:55 to 14:55 on Mad Max idem, horrible... Or is from the video? Or is chromatic aberration? Not looking good ... And it´s the pro model,,, damn
That’s a by product of the camera record rate and refresh rate (shutter speed)being totally different to the content frame and refresh rate. You don’t see that in the flesh I did explain this before the demo section. You don’t get rainbow with no colour wheel
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Sorry but this affirmation, about colour wheel, is not correct. The RBE is made by the single chip design (TI 0,47 XPR). In a trilaser (RGB) projector the RBE is minimium since laser pulse frecuency is higher than colour wheel. By the way, thanks for this video, your feedback is very apreciated.
Thanks I didn't know that - what I don't go into details about is the video frame rate is 29.97 FPS and the movie clips are obviously 24fps so it should look all juddering and it can obviously so I can't show everything, more stationary shots work out better, some movement is ok but some artefacts are inevitable. Now with some projector frame rates you get horizontal banding which I did get some of here for the googletv clips that were TV as the frame rate was different again and I have to adjust the camera shutter speed to minimise this. This is all due to the camera settings not matching up but I cant change them as the main video cant be 24 and 30 and 50 so I stick to the same as always 29.97. Hope that makes sense With a colour wheel projector I have to do it for 24fps movie clips too, I didn't with this projector. So as I said in the video its not perfect but it cant be perfect anyway as the source is HDR and my YouTUbe content is not so its just the best I can do right now. In the flesh none of this is an issue at all, its how cameras work, they are not designed for this :)
I would expect the Leica to have a good lens, but blow this out of the water, I very much doubt it. Its unlikely you have even seen the Pro 2 in the flesh as I dont think they have even shipped yet so its a silly comment really. Everyone who has seen the Pro 2 says the same thing
@@PursuitPerfectSystem A French calibrator (google mondoprojos) was just as skeptical as you, until he got a Leica Cine Play 1 from a customer to calibrate. He was so impressed that he bought a Leica Cine Play 1 himself and wrote a full review about it. Okay, €3,500 is expensive, but you're the one talking about a high-end projector and this is one of them.
That is one person with no experience of the Valerion. Look how many people compared the Valerion to serious projectors from jvc. 3500 is not expensive for a projector it’s cheap
@@PursuitPerfectSystem And you are a person having no experience with the Leica Cine play who's already on the market, just review one and compare them. By the way... Who are those many people? Paid RUclips influencers?
If they send me one I will but I compared and reviewed many projectors in the last 18 months and have owned and spent time with the big money projectors too. I can say no none of them blow any other out of the water. So you’re living in dream land trying to protect your own purchase which is madness. Better projectors exist than what you have that is how it is. Much better in fact. Deal with it it’s doesn’t mean you can’t love yours.
The native contrast (= black levels) is still pretty low, compared to high end projectors vom Sony (12'000:1) and JVC (20:000:1) and therefore absolutely no competition for them....
Yes on paper I agree the very expensive projectors will still be better for numbers like contrast, however I have seen top end sony's and JVC (not the very latest ones) and you dont watch this one and think its poor by comparison. Its the opposite you cant believe how good it is for its cost and size etc. But yes of course the very expensive ones will be better in thos areas but this closes the gap for people that cant have, cant afford or dont want the big boxes and the heat and the noise that comes with them. Lets not try and poo poo this its important development. It forces the big boys to do better
Only thing that annoys me is when objects or camera are moving, the image gets like doubled... like you will see 2 lights let's say instead of one.... it's weird, why does it do that ?
I’ll wait until it’s actually on the market. I have been burned on Kickstarter so many times over the years that I will no longer risk supporting any project on it. I’d rather pay full price (if the project actually comes to market) than support a project and get ripped off.
There you go it doesn’t really matter it will all end up being the same in the end. It’s what works best for the individual and I don’t blame you at all.
It says dates on the Kickstarter page - Max is expected May 2025 the others are December 2024. If you are unsure wait until they are retail and pay the premium as that is a safer way to do it.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Most likely this is a legitimate project and will see fruition since you received a sample product to review. Not to digress into a Kickstarter bashing diatribe, and with that, I have been burned about five times on KS over the years. Granted, nothing nearly this expensive, but it’s all added up to enough money that I simply won’t back any platform project like this again. I’d rather spend more on an available product than to have “given to a theft campaign”. This 4K projector looks like a really nice product. It will be even more interesting when it does hit the market and we start to see numerous reviews on it. Great job in your review and thank you!
Right away, the lens is too high. Most - if not all - place the projector on the ceiling. With the lens so high, you will need more lens shift, which adds distortion - or you need to lower the projector.
Will the Max really beat my Sony VPL-VW270ES/W 4K with native 4k , more contrast , better quality all over ??? - Except the brightness ... but i only watch Movies.... no Games
I can’t say for sure but there is good probability you will see a big improvement going from a bulb based Sony to this. I used to have a 8500 Sony that was a bulb, pre HDR and this is much better than that. Much better
Sorry I did say I didn't have a huge amount if time to do everything but I didn't see any, I am not sensitive to it but I used to see it in an old BenQ - but not on the latest PJ's
yes but factor in the video your watching has a frame rate of 29.97 and was shot at 59.98fps, the movie is 24 with a totally different refresh rate so it should look a lot worse than that, all of it. So like I said in the video the content is not the same as in the flesh, its the best I could do given the challenge of capturing 4 metres of bright HDR content all at different frames rates then editing it down to SDR with a set frame rate of me taking to camera - an impossible task. I havent seen any video that gets close to the quality I captured, I think they all look shit and show nothing of how good this PJ is real life.
That was the auto screen detection setup you see the initial image (light) is too large the whole front of the room lights up and it’s not straight or aligned to the screen at all. In a few second it’s almost a perfect match to the screen from metres away on a huge screen. It was showing how effective that auto setup tool is as it focused the image perfectly too
This is not a new manufacturer and you know this. All the other reviews say it is Valerion made by AWOL Vision. Why would you confuse people and not tell the truth. The Kickstarter page has video reviews saying this and Valerion was out boasting for two months that it is a sister brand of AWOL. Very misleading.
I did say Valerion is the sister company to AWOL but it’s not AWOL is it, so it’s a new manufacturer in the projector space. When they originally approached me about this it was my idea to make people aware that Valerion is the sister company to AWOL, originally it was going to seen as totally separate to not confuse people. It’s semantics this is a new product with some new ideas designed by some of the same people.
When I was explaining about the kickstarter and I explain this as the reason I agreed to do this video for this product. I would not have made a kickstarter product video for a brand I had no trust in. I am far too conservative as a person for that
Bear in mind the projector is running at a totally different frame rate to this video so it’s amazing it looks this good. I did mention this in the video
I dont allow linking to other channels for obvious reasons, however I checked out that video the Pro 2 was not setup anything like how good I think it can be and it still held its own with the very expensive JVC which is exactly what I said in my video. Proof I know what I am talking about without doing a side by side I have seen so many systems in so many homes and other places. JVC are designed to hold on their black floor at all costs and forgo brightness for that if necessary a bit like how the Formovie projectors are designed. That makes sense as that is where true dynamic range lives in the greys. The black floor in the Pro 2 is a little raised by comparison but the overall average APL of is brighter and easier to watch I think and I prefer that personally and I push that as much as possible in the setup of.
A contrast ratio of 15000/1 is not very good. My 11 year old Epson 5030UB may not be a laser projector but the contrast ratio is 600,000/1. In a dark room black levels are better than my LG 4K LCD.
It won’t be that for ansi contrast, even the best jvc are not that. That will be the on off contrast which is not the viewing contrast. No bulb projector will get you close to the modern lasers from what I have seen. I saw a top of the range Sony bulb projector recently and it was not even close. It reminded me of my old bulb based Sony which was a £9k PJ
Don’t buy it then I don’t care, but when you see one in the flesh you will realise you missed out as everyone who has seen one has said the same thing as me. This is not £20k worth but it doesn’t need to be as it’s exceeds what it costs rather than with projection it’s normally the other way around. I have owned and spent a lot of time with 20k projectors to know all about it
Thanks for watching the video - I need to point out a slight error I made in my description of the projector.
@@MaZEEZaM the minimum throw is 0.9
@@brucesmith1754 One had a silicon-based glass lens, and the other one has a Frankenstein-like combo for a lens: silicon based glass fused to oil-based resin (plastic).
@@Xstream718 iam loving it, it will be my next purchase
Excellent and simple review proves again that this is the best projector in the market today and even better with the price that is been offered in their kickstarter campaign.
I have ordered a max. I am so excited for the experience it will bring! See u guys on the other side 😊
@@TysonChenys are you in the uk 🇬🇧 can find one on line
Yo', Steve, a PJ with a 0.9:1 TR lens is a so-called "SHORT THROW PROJECTOR." You sit BEHIND the proejctor. Not FRONT OF IT. Just sayin'...
I really enjoyed your review, thank you very much, I backed the max, can’t wait until May.
Nice I bet its going to be mega
Was gonna go Dangbei before I heard of VisionMaster. Put in my order earlier today. This projector is insane.
That looks smart Like.its a nice looking projector. Something am thinking ABOUT
There will be people who do all that testing and comparison when these are out in the wild, you cant really do that for this kind of video, hence the comments about it not being a full review
thanks, this looks awesome value!
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Such as SIZE? :)
I love your review 😊
Thank you
Very nice!
How is this compared to AWOL 3500 pro ?
Sorry if I missed it. is this an ultra short projector or is this a regular projector that needs to be set back in the room?
Long throw / regular. Ultra short throw generally look more like sound bars, low profile and wide.
It's considered a short throw, not to be confused with an ultra short throw.
Why is it short throw and not long throw or does that only apply to commercial projectors?
@PursuitPerfectSystem I guess this projector kind of falls between short throw and standard throw. Typically anything with a throw ratio of .4 to 1 would be short throw while anything over 1 would be standard throw is my understanding
I didn’t know that thank you very much
Hi, an excellent personal review.
My bad explanation, I used it on this camera tripod head www.manfrotto.com/uk-en/xpro-ball-head-in-magnesium-with-200pl-plate-mhxpro-bhq2/
Which has a plate that connected to the projector I normally connect to my cameras - I use a camera cage so that might be the confusion here sorry
@PursuitPerfectSystem
I know that ALR screen would be good, but which one exactly?
What kind of screen did You use for review? Which manufacturer and what model?
What a stunner of a projector.
Hope you get the max in your hands as well.
I remember commenting a month ago on another review product you did, where I remember calling that other product a B or tier 2 product.
This is definitely not that, this looks to be tier 1, has everything, and offers a better overall experience than the products from the big 3... 👏👏👏
The fact that it isn't tethered to a damn gimbal is already a huge plus over the Hisense C2 line. And including standard quarter inch mounting threads means they get it.
Thanks for the review. How is the Valerion compared to the JMGO N1S Pro reviewed last month? Thank you
I was hoping to side by side them, but there was no chance for that here.
The Valerion has a much better menu and better setup and picture controls and far more format support for HDR and the menus are much faster and snappier to use always
I think the brightness of the two are fairly similar, I think JMGO has a little more black crush so that makes the black look more solid on the screen, so it looks the more contrasty, but I think that is an illusion as the better gradation of the Valerion brings more out of the image.
The JMGO is quieter, a bit smaller and you get the gimbal and it costs less.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem So is the contrast of the JMGO better ??
The camera is shooting 29.97 fps the content is 24p there is bound to be some artefacts in that recording process. I did explain this.
Waiting for max
Pretty sure DLP
This was an interesting video i would love to see the FULL review once u get your own sample AND VIDEOGAMES on it in 120hz or 4k60hz using the 2.1HDMI Very fun content u have been posting
Thanks for another good review..Where is this projector manufactured.
Valerion is a US / China company but pretty sure these are manufactured in China
Sorry is i missed it but is the keystone correction Analog or Digital? I guess Digital from what is shown rapidly as auto calibration.
Yes in the Pro 2 the keystone is digital, in the max you get lens shift so you would need less keystone but I assume still some that would be digital. They have not mentioned anything else on that.
@PursuitPerfectSystem Thank you for the reply, i thought so about both.
Very good review, but how does this work for gamers with playstation or xbox? Is it any good compared tothose gaming projectors from benq? Thx

Thank you for the video. Would it be ok to mount the Pro 2 in the ceiling at 15 feet away to project on a 175 inch screen?
A game changer
Thanks for the review.
How about compared to the hisense c2?
Thanks for the review - seems the light output is plenty for that size screen.
I think it was in Maximum most of the time as I wanted the most bright and punchy image possible but yes it was enough. Remembering it’s an AT screen so you lose light as it has holes in it
Great review, Terry! I may have missed it, what screen were you watching it on?
I am not sure, I think its a Stewart 4 metre 16:9 Acoustically transparent
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks! I have a Stewart Studiotek G4 but it’s still in the box. I also have a Vividstorm ALR so I was trying to decide if I just use that or unbox and setup the G4
Check the ALR is not designed for UST Projectors as it might not be ideal for this normal throw PJ.
If you dont have a black room, ALR screen will be better I think
@@PursuitPerfectSystem indeed, they do offer a UST version but I have the long throw model they recommended

If you do want this projector, I highly recommend you purchase immediately.
looks same as the hisense c1tuk are they related or copies? thanks for the great video
There are about 100 projectors with that same squareish form factor, its very unlikely Hisense was the first
I have about 1,000 questions but almost all of them are more appropriate to direct to the manufacturer, so here's my three for this venue:
1. Y'all do realize that "not supported" is code for "We've arbitrarily decided that it's time for you to give us more money for the same thing you already have," right?)
Hey what is the use of USB port?
Can we play content through this by hard drives?
"We don't care about its looks, just its performance" Oh no, Yes the performance is the Most important aspect But, whichever projector I buy will be on display and a beautiful design such as this is a huge bonus and would sway me over an fugly but slightly better projector option. I don't really want an ugly lump of a projector in my room but if I am going to, why not have a beautifully designed one.
pretty sure we would NOT notice if they used this projector in a cinema near our homes. we wouldnt notice that they have been using this one or not by the specs of it seems its just amazing like that
It wont bright enough for the cinema man which is probably 7 metres screen +
Great review! Could you please compare this Pro 2 to the AWOL 3500?
It’s hard to compare UST to normal throw projection. I think you could have either and be happy
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks, I have the AWOL 3500 and am wondering if the Valerion Pro 2 is enough of a upgrade or is it just similar enough with different throws?
Valerion is also the sister company of AWOL so that would be hard
Have you had the chance to review laser projectors from Sony and JVC? And how this compares?
Is a dlp with high black levels and low contrast. For a dlp the contrast is good but not even rremotely close to a JVC which even at its worst settings is around 30k:1 NATIVE vs the 4000:1 of this dlp
And black levels are way deeper on the jvc
The Sony is better than this but not as good as the JVC.
Just for a comparison:
- I had an Epson TW6600 ... with a static on-of contrast of 1'300:1, but a dynamic iris that rises it to about 13'000:1 .... i was disappointed.
What i want you to consider is:
- 4'000:1 as a static contrast is a joke
- 16'000:1 with "EBL" is an even more funny joke (only factor 4 with laser-dimming? seriously? How did they realize that, via a simple resistor on the Laser-light?)
- 2000 Bucks are money!
A dedicated software-connection to the projector firmware has to, because of the panel non-linearities and so on)
I have read a review, in which the 3000 lumens were lowered to 1500 lumens during a calibration (which really speaks its own language! For a laser projector, where others only loose 20% of their brightness), and after the calibration, a 100% white picture still had a huge green overshoot.
Do you recommend it over any UST projectors (AWOL ltv-350) ?
UST to Normal throw PJ is totally different, this brings the 3500 pro level quality to normal throw for a lot less money
Nice video, thank you :)
When you are saying "This is one of the best projectors I've ever seen", are you comparing it to other lifestyle projetors at around the same price segment, or also to flagship models of e.g. JVC and Sony?
Compared to everything I have seen, including the commercial cinema, I have seen a lot of PJ;s in peoples homes working as a system Dirac Live calibrator for a few years. However I have not seen everything and there are a lot of very high end big and expensive units out there so take that into account
A great looking projector this one looks very similar to the Hisense C1TUK DLP Tri Laser Projector currently for sale at Richer Sounds for £1299.
Thank you Terry I missed the lower ansi output on the Hisense
@@matthewhoult1350 lower native contrast as well

@@dubscee6472 I can’t say exactly, the closest I can say is I had the BenQ W5700 and this is 10x better than that
@@PursuitPerfectSystem HAHAHA WE HAVE THE SAME PROJECTOR :D i think it's the same model but depends on where you're from it's the HT5550/W5700 (gotta love the naming convention)
@@PursuitPerfectSystem that said, would you mind doing a comparison video, especially for those who are more of a visual learner rather than a spec comparison. Thanks!!!
I sold the BenQ years ago, it was ok but trust me its nothing like this PJ, not even remotely close to as good otherwise I would still have it.
What issues did you have with the XGIMI? I didnt see any so I am interested to know what you experienced?
@@PursuitPerfectSystem
On a side note I have been a longterm view of your channel and like your audio reviews….
That is where the optical zoom of the Valerion Max will fix this issue
I am sorry about not covering the gaming side of projectors I just dont have the experience there so I didn't know about that otherwise I would have mentioned it.
I would say common sense still applies as it always does but you do get a lot here for your money.
what screen do you have
It’s not my screen, I just use these facilities of a hifi dealer. I think it’s a Stewart but don’t quote me on it sorry I have forgotten what it is.

Yeah that is kind of the whole point but it’s there so I was making people aware it’s not silent it does have fans and does make some noise
3D included?
Yes it supports 3d
So how much is it to replace the light source? or after ~20k you just bin it and get another?
i think for daily drivers like me, bulbs are still the most economical for those who dont have budget to buy new every 2 years (my PJ gets 6-8000 hrs on a bulb per year)
It’s probably more like 30000 hours for this one which is I think 8 hour a day for 10 years or something crazy like I did the calc once before.
Rounded
Oh and, hello Toid, like your channel too ✌️
I wonder how it performs on an ordinary non-professional screen that many of us have in our homes!
A professional grade screen, just means a good one and not a white wall if someone is new to projection is why I said that :)
Hope that makes sense
With a colour wheel projector I have to do it for 24fps movie clips too, I didn't with this projector. So as I said in the video its not perfect but it cant be perfect anyway as the source is HDR and my YouTUbe content is not so its just the best I can do right now.
In the flesh none of this is an issue at all, its how cameras work, they are not designed for this :)
High end?
Try the Leica Cine Play 1, with €3.500 or $3,678, it blows this Valerion projector out of the water.
I would expect the Leica to have a good lens, but blow this out of the water, I very much doubt it. Its unlikely you have even seen the Pro 2 in the flesh as I dont think they have even shipped yet so its a silly comment really. Everyone who has seen the Pro 2 says the same thing
@@PursuitPerfectSystem
A French calibrator (google mondoprojos) was just as skeptical as you, until he got a Leica Cine Play 1 from a customer to calibrate.

You won’t see that in the flesh that is camera settings being different to the projector its unavoidable
I'm in the same state as you I'm confused because I'd like to buy it but as there is no guarantee of delivery it scares me, when do you think?
It says dates on the Kickstarter page - Max is expected May 2025 the others are December 2024. If you are unsure wait until they are retail and pay the premium as that is a safer way to do it.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem
Most likely this is a legitimate project and will see fruition since you received a sample product to review.
On the ceiling it would be upside down so the lens would be at the bottom

Well, the Hobbit running horses clip was full of it. I'm afraid if you are sensitive it's not a projector for you.
yes but factor in the video your watching has a frame rate of 29.97 and was shot at 59.98fps, the movie is 24 with a totally different refresh rate so it should look a lot worse than that, all of it.
How about 3d movie's does it play them and the max
Yes 3d is supported and they sell glasses to go with the PJ but it’s not of interest to me so I didn’t test it.

I m seeing some checkerboard pattern in some of the footage. What's going on?
That was the auto screen detection setup you see the initial image (light) is too large the whole front of the room lights up and it’s not straight or aligned to the screen at all. In a few second it’s almost a perfect match to the screen from metres away on a huge screen. It was showing how effective that auto setup tool is as it focused the image perfectly too
okay seriously, was the fan noise bit supposed to be sarcasm for the purpose of humor? Cause i heard nothing. Does it really have fan noise?
There is some fan noise but it’s not a lot, but it’s not silent that was the point of that part of the video

It will be soon the kickstarter finished last week and they ended up with nearly 5000 backers which is crazy
Paid shill. A "budget" projector from Kickstarter being talked about as if it's a 20k kit. What a joke. Doesnt even know what type of sensor it uses.
