      Squirrel Tuned that converter not working in certain da I never knew about but it made sense once you said it. It’s always been comical to me seeing boosted street cars from our area go to Houston and they run into trouble because they’re overboosting and having issues people don’t realize that da and elevation play a huge factor.

      @@whippledcobra8506 yeah it can make a huge difference. The ZR1 picked up like 4psi going to houston same pulleys lol. Fox took less c02 to make the same boost too.

      @@SquirrelTuned so I just got it up on the brake. I'm 99% sure it's just a weak motor with a healthy size turbo causing my problem. I knocked off about half a second using your info (which is helpful). Still takes around 5.5 seconds to get to the 2 step. Sbe 5.3 with 317 heads lol. It's about 8.6:1 compression. And it has a vs racing 85/88 t6 turbo. It runs good (5.64 @ 122 on 22psi) but just takes forever on the transbrake.

    • @SquirrelTuned

      @@blakedavid71 yeah gotta ditch those 317s. You'd be better off with 862s or 799s. Glad it helped some though.

    I’m aggressive on the timing till I’m building 4psi or so then yank a bunch and it builds boost pretty quick. Last time at the track the DA was 12,800’. Altitude in Wyoming is nuts

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад

      Yes sir that's typically how I do it. Its definitely much harder in bad air

    I really enjoyed and relate to this video.
    I spool a 3L v6 with twin gtx3582s and a pretty hard converter.
    Around 6s i can go from 2000rpm to 5600 and 30psi.
    I use the fuel cut not ignition and retard the timing right down and gets the boost and rpm dead smooth on the 2 step. Also adjusting stall speed on converter makes a massive difference. Like to have it within 1500 of the shift rpm.

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад

      Nice man. It's definitely even more critical on engines like that. Us v8 guys have it easy lol. Converter is a huge part though for sure not only for spooling but to get the car down the track as fast as possible and not hurting the engine.

    • @aussie1926
      @aussie1926 3 года назад +1

      @@SquirrelTuned oh yeah little engines are hard. My issue is around 4000 rpm where it stalls out for a bit. Still making 12-15 psi but not enough power to push the converter untill the turbos properly spool. Just got my converter changed from 6600 to around 7200 stall so hopefully it will help.

      @@aussie1926 nice yeah I know some of the real fast 2jz stuff has to use nitrous to spool properly. They can't spool with a converter tight enough to hold 2000+hp down track. Good friend of mine is part owner and tuner at prospeed and they just set the import radial record recently.

      I got no nitrous at this stage. The converter guy has been working with us also testing things for him.
      I see you have the huges dump valve setup. Have you installed it yet? I have the mmr quick spool valve but modified it to dump converter pressure. But dont think the size of it is big enough because cooler line pressure stays about the same. Interested to see where and how the huges ones install.

    I'm gonna have to watch this a few times. My turbo hasn't spooled at 3k rpm on the brake. My timing is 34 degrees on 5.3. No do,e pressure just on wastegate spring

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад

      It's possible the wastegate is opening and letting some exhaust gasses escape. Keeping that from happening can make a big difference in spooling. It's also possible the converter is just too tight for your combo though and needs changed.

      @@infamousnova what stator is in it? I've seen a lot of converter specs missed by all companies including ptc. Stronger spring should help some. I'll usually use boost control to close the gate while spooling so lots of dome pressure or boost controller percentage when it is trying to spool.

    400cid sbc twin 7875 turbos at 3500rpm on the trans brake it makes 3psi. At 4000rpm it will only make 5.1psi even pulling out an additional 8° of timing so at 5.1psi it was at 23° of timing. How can I get the boost up no boost leaks

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  4 года назад

      Are you adding any pressure to the dome or is it just on Wastegate? In my experience you need to pull quite a bit of timing to make a big difference. Typically I find on LS stuff they like to drop down into the single digits on timing. I haven't messed with a sbc yet.
