Its unfair cause half the zodiac spirits barely even get summoned. Lucy only used Capricorn once for combat in the main story. Whereas, Virgo, Aquarius, Leo or Taurus are there in every few episodes
I think Lucy might've made her summoning decisions based on contracts and such. part of her choosing method might be that she simply considers some spirits more eager to fight for her (Taurus, Loki, Virgo) whilst she perceives others as more utility oriented because they don't appreciate violence due to their personal reasons (Aries)

Take her fight with Flare at the GMG arc, she was up against a wizard with a hair oriented magic and chose cancer because she knows he's the best at cutting hair. Then at the Tartaros arc, she chose Leo and Virgo because she knows they're the best at one on one combat.

Let's not forget that not only can Horologium sense when Lucy's in extreme danger, it can also sense when her friends are, as well. Hades could've turned Wendy to nothing at the beginning of his battle with Team Natsu if Horologium didn't appear just at the nick of time to save her.
That’s a huge part of Lucy’s power and what makes her great as a celestial wizard is that she has such a bond with her spirits that the can not only cross over under their own power but that they can render aid as they see fit without her consent. The spirits have such a strong bond of trust and friendship with Lucy that they will act upon themselves in ways that will sway the battle.
Aries has to be above horologium because the show did state that gold keys are much stronger than silver keys. I still think she's the weakest gold key tho, just above horologium
I don't believe Aries is the weakest gold Key, she has shown multiple times she's both versatile and skilled she even fought Leo hand to hand and held her own extremely well even though she was at a disadvantage doing so.
Lucy is by far my favourite character in Fairy Tail, because of her story and personality, but a big factor is her magic. When I first watched Fairy Tail I was mesmerised by her magic, and the idea of using Keys to summon spirits from another world. It was so intriguing to me, as well as the spells she can use that relate to Celestial Magic, such as Urano Metria and Gottfried. It’s just a huge shame that this type of magic wasn’t shown off more, such as more spells or ways of summoning. I hope to see it develop more during the 100 year quest.
Especially since he was fully capable of swapping hands with Loke during the S Class trials when Capricorn was possessed by Zoldio. He's not as strong as Taurus, but he's easily one of the smartest of all the golden Zodiac keys. I feel that he deserved to be third with Taurus at fourth for that reason.
Celestial Spirit magic is so under developed. It has so much potential but they ignored it and Lucy in general. Edit: For those mentioning star dresses, it's a lazy after thought and is still fan service in nature.
Agree it's actually on of my favorite type of magic (or idea of a type of magic lol). And it's bc her character is almost solely made for fanservice, the girl can never win a fight or have a power up without ending naked dead on the floor and have someone rescueing her lol. Like the've said that the only weak point of a celestial mage is their weak body and only depending on their keys and lucy with her new magic "star dress" have solved that issue yet they still make her weak also she has 10 out of the 12 golden key literally every other celestial mage in the world is pretty much useless since they all can only have silver keys lol
I would actually rank Aries higher, her hand-to-hand combat is good, her magic although is not offensive type, but the wool magic can trap her opponents, acting like a shield to block the coming attack, and can even interrupt opponent magic incantation. I think at least she is useful than some of the zodiac spirits.
I feel like Gemini gotta be higher. It can literally just be lucy and use her powers. Like we don't see the fully unlocked potential cuz of the gags. Imagine if Gemini became Natsu
Gemini sure could copy magic but the limit was the holders magic power. Gemini also couldnt be much stronger than either their holder or the one they copy. If it just so happened that Aquarius or Leo is much stronger than Lucy in terms of Magic, Gemini couldn't win.
Putting Aquarius at number 2 is correct, even though Lucy did mention that Aquarius is the strongest celestial spirit she had even when she had Loke also, but in term of combat skills and experience Loke is by far stronger.
Aquarius is the most powerful in the sense that she can summon tidal waves, solo hold back powered up Juvia in the underwater fight, and even held back the feline demon right before Lucy summoned the Celestial Spirit King. that said, Loke probably has more magic power, he's definitely got more freedom and authority, and above all he's got more combat experience
Idk, I disagree. Have we actually seen Leo pull of anything impressive? I don't mean this sarcastically or rhetorically, but I straight-up don't remember a single impressive fight. The only fight I remember Leo winning was against Bickslow.
If you re watch all of fairytail, you would know that Lucy has a habit of calling at least 3 of her spirits at different times the strongest. I dont know if it’s supposed to be a running gag or not. She calls Aquarius the strongest; she calls Loki the strongest; she called Taurus the strongest. It’s hilarious though

Aries held her own against Leo in a physical fight, she HAS to be higher. Capricorn has no powers aside from combat. Taurus has the most famous losing streak of Fairy Tail, only his star dress is powerful.
That's probably because Aries was served under Angel at that time. Angel had a higher magic capacity compared to Lucy during Nirvana arc. And I'm pretty sure Loke wasn't fully healed because imagine you're banned from returning to celestial world for like 3 years. It probably took a toll on his body and his magic to fully recovered. Also Loke probably didn't want to use Lucy's magic because Lucy was already exhausted during the fight before she casted Urano Metria that eventually drained her magic.
Leo wasn't fighting Aries seriously and was going easy on her! Even Aries' mage at the time said that she Aries was no match against Leo which was why she used a laser on them both. Leo is far the strongest.
Leo is the leader of the Zodiac, so be is naturally the strongest. Loke even states this in the episode you're referring to. He says because he's the leader, he can do things others can't.
Leo not only self summon himself but also sustain himself with his own magic for three years and still be strong enough to be a fairy tail wizard while fucking dying.
Lucy's spirits have shown very little skills, like Scorpio only has sand buster, Virgo Spica hole etc, the funniest part is Lucy need tons of magic to summon the 12 zodiac gates, but almost half of them dont really use magic, Cancer/Taurus/Sagittarius/Capricorn. It has been mentioned again recently that the stronger lucy is, the stronger her spirits are. Hopefully Lucy's spirits will be powerup in the future, otherwise it would be useless no matter hw many gates lucy can open in the same time
Most of the spirits are used for the same thing again and again, we see Gemini’s strengths and skills a little more , like the grand magic (?)games when they turned into Lucy. If the spell actually worked and wasn’t interrupted by flare’s cheating team lucy and Gemini could’ve done some serious damage to flare.
A well thought out analysis. A point you did forget though is that Capricorn also stayed in the human world on his own power, and was even in a guild, able to summon people, he is no slouch. It would be fun to see a video adding the rest of the spirits to this video that are with other wizards, all in one video.
Wasn’t Capricorn possessed by Zoldio? That was the only reason he was able to stay in Earthland I believe, but I think you’re right. He seemed very powerful even without the possession. A shame lucy barely used him
I think gemini should be higher, because although they cannot transform into someone that has less magic power than their owner, their magic has very high versatility plus they gain the memories of the person they copy, but also no matter how strong someone’s magic is, it always has a weakness, and the versatility of gemini can counter it. We don’t even know if gemini can mimic someone that has died, or isn’t in range of their owner. At the very least, lucy can learn a powerful spell like urano metria and use gemini to double the magic power. Another example would be, if gemini can turn into other celestial spirits weaker than their holder 😊
I agree with your list, especially the top 3. Leo/Loke is my favorite spirit. I actually love all the spirits that I made my original spirit, Luna. She half spirit and half human and just likd Leo, she can stay on Earth for a long time before going back to the spirit world. Luna has moon and stars magic.
Loke is my most favourite also even tho I love all of them , seriously the spirits are all so precious 🥺 But he always had a special place in my Heart 💓 ( I also used to have the biggest crush on him 😂❤️)

Gemini always had the most potential imo. Like, straight-up, Lucy could summon Gemini plus another spirit like Leo, then have Gemini summon two other spirits like Aries (for defense) and Aquarius (for attack).
I feel a bit mad that you didn't add the spirit king as an honorable mention lol since she's one of the few mages to actually have more than one interaction with him and she even broke Aquarius' key in order to summon him

Aquarius is the only spirit that is seen to give Lucy access to het Star Dress whitout Lucy to use her key bc we all know what happened. I also think that spirit's strength also relies on what kind of connection they have with there owner. How closer they are, how more powerful.
In the Lucy vs brandish fight, Lucy quickly changed her stardress multiple times without using any gold keys so that isn't true, she used cancer stardress with no keys, i don't think she needs her keys to change stardress
I think that Gemini should be at the top because if you saw in the grand magic games, tartus arc you would see that when Lucy is enchanting Urano Metria she would have to need a second Lucy to enchant it so she would mostly use Gemini because it could make a double Lucy thus helping her cast the powerful spell. I’m not sure it counts because it’s technically enchanting the spell and there not maybe using there actually power but all I know is that they helped Lucy enchant the powerful spell.
This is my thoughts, I think Mashima nerfed Gemini so Lucy wouldn't be too strong, if Lucy made Gemini her main celestial spirit, everything would be better for Lucy

In the tenrou island arc Loki stated Capricorn can lower other humans magic power during the fight but we never rly see that power after he becomes one of Lucy’s keys
The clock and Aries should be switched none of the sliver Keys should be higher than any of the zodiacs and Aries has higher defense, we've actually never seen the clock take direct damage, will argue
Lava(he was chilling in lava)/ Saving Wendy from Hades (he is insanely fast, summoned himself, grabbed wendy and jumped out of the way, all in front of everyone, nobody being able to notice it). He is just not a fighter, but as a defensive support, he is top tier, kinda like a cheat.

I will put Gemini and Aquarius at the same spot. If Lucy and Erza went one on one. Gemini can stop Erza using her requip magic. So Erza can only used her fighting experience, Telekenesis and Echantments and other heavenly magics. Lucy's advantage is she is faster than Erza using her Cancer Form with two blades. And she can also summon Leo and Capricorn for combat support.
Here's my list with explanations for changes: 1) Leo 2) Aquarius 3) Virgo 4) Capricorn: A much better fighter and strategist than he is given credit for. His ability to take away others magic makes him a difficult matchup. 5) Sagittarius 6) Taurus: He's certainly strong, but he has little versatility and constant lack of strategy tends to make him lose fights he shouldn't. 7) Gemini 8) Scorpio 9) Horologium 10) Aries: her wool magic is very useful at trapping enemies. It's more than I can say for the weakest gold key 11) Cancer: He hasn't been very useful unless giving a haircut. He doesn't have much attack power, he's not incredibly fast, and he doesn't have any defense. It's no contest.
Loke is the strongest, I agree. Even when he has stayed in the human realm for almost 3 years, he managed to hold up with the phantom guild guy for a while and the guy even complimented him a dn said he was wrong even though he was at his weakest and dying
Loki/Leo also doesnt have any drawbacks that make him refuse orders (that i know of i havnt finished fairy tail) like him being stubborn or distracted by cute girls i could be biased bc hes one of my favorite characters but i think i agree woth most if the rankings

You know how strong Gemini is, Urano Metria one of Lucy's strongest spells, requires two wizards two. Another powerful spell Lucy can use that requires multiple ppl to cast is Gottfried the spell they used during the eclipse arc with Yukino, Hisui, and Lucy, that spell requires three ppl. But with Gemini, Lucy can cast urano metria and Gottfried by herself and Gemini of course. she just bust out Gottfried recently in 100 year quest arc, and ultimately win.
I read the 100 yr quest manga, and both Nicola and Ares gain additional details to what they can do. Nicola has a super sniffer. Ares’ wool can silence chanting.
And then we have the keyless spirit, The Spirit King. He shows up a few times, but he is only utilized once. He's technically the most powerful spirit, but his drawback makes him hard to use and expensive both short and long term.

Loki and Virgo as spirits are revealed the most and therefore their powers are greater, as are those of Aquarius and Taurus. If the anime had explored Lucy's other spirits more, they might have had different abilities. The same Capricorn could have the magic of Darkness as opposed to the magic of light of Leo. But we have what we have.
I agree with almost all of them but Taurus, by far the worst of them all. Disobedience for a selfish reason has no place in a battle, that can cost lifes. In Loki's case, he was on the right and his disobedience save Aries. The rest was a suicide.
my top 3 would be 3) Aquiarius unbreadictable results of her summon is her 1st weakness 2nd it's her limitation of locations she can be summoned via water sources and 3rd she can be incredibly powerful with in a sea but her power would go down in small pool so in other words her power may vary depending on the suroundings (yes she can use her own water but she is shown multiple times she can take advantage of water in her surroundings and those times where she seemed the most dangerous) 2) Loki he has huge amounts of magic power and we know that for a fact since he has been able to stay outside the celestial worlds for huuge time gaps! he has a lot of exp through fights while working on FT and light magic is actually fairly rare at 1st glance his attack may seem weak but those light punches do puck a punch! he is the leader for a reason 1) Gemini he has the biggest potetial imo.... he can transform to anyone as long as the wielder posseses equal or more magic power than them say Lucy matches Natsu in Magic power essencially Gemini can be a 2nd Natsu! other than tho Gemini is the spirit that holds the key t Lucy's strongest attack so far (aside for Celestial king ig) Urano Metoria! just cause Gemini can provide lucy the option of using it is enough for me to give Gemini the 1st place.
i love fairy tail but they really did do lucy dirty, before star dresses they made celestial wizards look weak but honestly i always thought celestial wizards were cool i just wish they did more with them 😭
none of the celestial spirits outside of Loke, Aquarius and Taurus have shown more than 1 or 2 magic attack and physical combat while others are rarely summoned
I kinda disagree on the ranking because I don't really think Taurus shpuld be put higher than Gemini nor Cancer. Anyways, here is my ranking: 10. Aries (weakest in terms of magic, mediocre in hand-to-hand combat, and lack of confidence which affects her battle fights) 9. Taurus (Tough and has a strong melee attack but he lacks magic ability) 8. Scorpio (Mediocre in magic and melee attacks) 7. Sagittarius (Very reliable in long distance battle but weak if the enemy comes closer) 6. Cancer (Fast and his attacks can cut armor or even swords) 5. Capricorn (High melee attack and super intelligent in terms of battle plan and tactics) 4. Virgo (Very reliable and strong opponent, tough and strong in hand-to-hand combat) 3. Gemini (They may not be strong and capable of fighting but the fact that they can copy wizards, they are strong. They can even cast Urano Metria with lucy, and copy skills of the wizards they transformed on) 2. Leo (no doubt and no explanation needed) 1. Aquarius (Lol she can open the door by herself even though her key is missing and can summin tsunami on her will)
I love this ranking. More accurate than the video. Aquarius is definitely the strongest, even stated in the Tartaros arc that if she can't do anything against the opponents, any Zodiac can't.
I'd disagree with your placement of Aries and Sagittarius imo Sagittarius is one of the weakest spirits I'd honestly throw I'm for the weakest of the gold keys. We have seen Aries fight and hold her own against Leo, one of the strongest spirits who is top 2 on your list she's extremely versatile and even with her personality she still shows that she's a force to be reckoned with :/

For me Aqua, Leo, Vargo, Gemini, scorpion and Capricorn are Lucy's best spirits, they have at least the will to fight for her. The others I would certainly keep them just for the dress, but I will buy a silver key like the one angel got he will be way better than them. But it pisses me off, how Hiro nerfs Lucy and any spirit comes to her! Like when they were with angel Aries was fighting Leo seriously and shows to be a master martial artist but when she came to Lucy she was like simimasiiin, I am afraid of my shadow I can't fight! Um, Aries was fighting Leo seriously but he was going easy on her. Even Aries' mage at the time said thar Aries couldn't match him which is why she used a cannon on them both. Also, what do you mean that Leo "can't win after getting all his magic back." Maybe he's not used much like before but he most certainly still wins plenty of fights.

Taurus is way to high up, he might be physically strong but that's all he has and 9 times outta 10 he gets packed, literally when he's introduced natsu one shots him, the majority of the others have better utility and versatility, taurus doesn't really do anything that the others can't

It feels weird to see Taurus in such a high place when he's only ever used narratively to 1) lose spectacularly for a gag or 2) lose spectacularly to show how powerful the oponent is, which isn't that impressive when the formula is so commonly abused that I can't think of any time when Taurus was efficiently used.

I would actually rank Aries higher, her hand-to-hand combat is good, her magic although is not offensive type, but the wool magic can trap her opponents, acting like a shield to block the coming attack, and can even interrupt opponent magic incantation. I think at least she is useful than some of the zodiac spirits.

Gemini sure could copy magic but the limit was the holders magic power. Gemini also couldnt be much stronger than either their holder or the one they copy.

Putting Aquarius at number 2 is correct, even though Lucy did mention that Aquarius is the strongest celestial spirit she had even when she had Loke also, but in term of combat skills and experience Loke is by far stronger.
Aquarius is the most powerful in the sense that she can summon tidal waves, solo hold back powered up Juvia in the underwater fight, and even held back the feline demon right before Lucy summoned the Celestial Spirit King. that said, Loke probably has more magic power, he's definitely got more freedom and authority, and above all he's got more combat experience

Aries held her own against Leo in a physical fight, she HAS to be higher. Capricorn has no powers aside from combat. Taurus has the most famous losing streak of Fairy Tail, only his star dress is powerful.
That's probably because Aries was served under Angel at that time. Angel had a higher magic capacity compared to Lucy during Nirvana arc. And I'm pretty sure Loke wasn't fully healed because imagine you're banned from returning to celestial world for like 3 years. It probably took a toll on his body and his magic to fully recovered. Also Loke probably didn't want to use Lucy's magic because Lucy was already exhausted during the fight before she casted Urano Metria that eventually drained her magic.
Leo wasn't fighting Aries seriously and was going easy on her! Even Aries' mage at the time said that she Aries was no match against Leo which was why she used a laser on them both. Leo is far the strongest.

Lucy's spirits have shown very little skills, like Scorpio only has sand buster, Virgo Spica hole etc, the funniest part is Lucy need tons of magic to summon the 12 zodiac gates, but almost half of them dont really use magic, Cancer/Taurus/Sagittarius/Capricorn. It has been mentioned again recently that the stronger lucy is, the stronger her spirits are. Hopefully Lucy's spirits will be powerup in the future, otherwise it would be useless no matter hw many gates lucy can open in the same time
Most of the spirits are used for the same thing again and again, we see Gemini’s strengths and skills a little more , like the grand magic (?)games when they turned into Lucy. If the spell actually worked and wasn’t interrupted by flare’s cheating team lucy and Gemini could’ve done some serious damage to flare.

A well thought out analysis. A point you did forget though is that Capricorn also stayed in the human world on his own power, and was even in a guild, able to summon people, he is no slouch. I think gemini should be higher, because although they cannot transform into someone that has less magic power than their owner, their magic has very high versatility plus they gain the memories of the person they copy, but also no matter how strong someone’s magic is, it always has a weakness, and the versatility of gemini can counter it. We don’t even know if gemini can mimic someone that has died, or isn’t in range of their owner. At the very least, lucy can learn a powerful spell like urano metria and use gemini to double the magic power. Another example would be, if gemini can turn into other celestial spirits weaker than their holder 😊
I agree with your list, especially the top 3. Leo/Loke is my favorite spirit. I actually love all the spirits that I made my original spirit, Luna. She half spirit and half human and just likd Leo, she can stay on Earth for a long time before going back to the spirit world. Luna has moon and stars magic.

Aquarius is the only spirit that is seen to give Lucy access to het Star Dress whitout Lucy to use her key bc we all know what happened.
I also think that spirit's strength also relies on what kind of connection they have with there owner. How closer they are, how more powerful.
In the Lucy vs brandish fight, Lucy quickly changed her stardress multiple times without using any gold keys so that isn't true, she used cancer stardress with no keys, i don't think she needs her keys to change stardress
I think that Gemini should be at the top because if you saw in the grand magic games, tartus arc you would see that when Lucy is enchanting Urano Metria she would have to need a second Lucy to enchant it so she would mostly use Gemini because it could make a double Lucy thus helping her cast the powerful spell.

Loke is the strongest, I agree. Even when he has stayed in the human realm for almost 3 years, he managed to hold up with the phantom guild guy for a while and the guy even complimented him a dn said he was wrong even though he was at his weakest and dying
Loki/Leo also doesnt have any drawbacks that make him refuse orders (that i know of i havnt finished fairy tail) like him being stubborn or distracted by cute girls i could be biased bc hes one of my favorite characters but i think i agree woth most if the rankings

You know how strong Gemini is, Urano Metria one of Lucy's strongest spells, requires two wizards two. Another powerful spell Lucy can use that requires multiple ppl to cast is Gottfried the spell they used during the eclipse arc with Yukino, Hisui, and Lucy, that spell requires three ppl. But with Gemini, Lucy can cast urano metria and Gottfried by herself and Gemini of course. she just bust out Gottfried recently in 100 year quest arc, and ultimately win.

I read the 100 yr quest manga, and both Nicola and Ares gain additional details to what they can do. Nicola has a super sniffer. Ares’ wool can silence chanting.

And then we have the keyless spirit, The Spirit King. He shows up a few times, but he is only utilized once. He's technically the most powerful spirit, but his drawback makes him hard to use and expensive both short and long term.

Loki and Virgo as spirits are revealed the most and therefore their powers are greater, as are those of Aquarius and Taurus. If the anime had explored Lucy's other spirits more, they might have had different abilities. The same Capricorn could have the magic of Darkness as opposed to the magic of light of Leo. But we have what we have.

I agree with almost all of them but Taurus, by far the worst of them all. Disobedience for a selfish reason has no place in a battle, that can cost lifes.
In Loki's case, he was on the right and his disobedience save Aries. The rest was a suicide.
my top 3 would be
3) Aquiarius unbreadictable results of her summon is her 1st weakness 2nd it's her limitation of locations she can be summoned via water sources and 3rd she can be incredibly powerful with in a sea but her power would go down in small pool so in other words her power may vary depending on the suroundings (yes she can use her own water but she is shown multiple times she can take advantage of water in her surroundings and those times where she seemed the most dangerous)
2) Loki he has huge amounts of magic power and we know that for a fact since he has been able to stay outside the celestial worlds for huuge time gaps! he has a lot of exp through fights while working on FT and light magic is actually fairly rare at 1st glance his attack may seem weak but those light punches do puck a punch! he is the leader for a reason
1) Gemini he has the biggest potetial imo.... he can transform to anyone as long as the wielder posseses equal or more magic power than them say Lucy matches Natsu in Magic power essencially Gemini can be a 2nd Natsu! other than tho Gemini is the spirit that holds the key t Lucy's strongest attack so far (aside for Celestial king ig) Urano Metoria! just cause Gemini can provide lucy the option of using it is enough for me to give Gemini the 1st place.

For me Aqua, Leo, Vargo, Gemini, scorpion and Capricorn are Lucy's best spirits, they have at least the will to fight for her. The others I would certainly keep them just for the dress, but I will buy a silver key like the one angel got he will be way better than them.
