  • Well after the previous nights lack of fish in my boat in the dark on the low water, we decided to go again the next day in my fathers boat for the high water. With there not being many herring around in January, and an extreme high pressure, we didnt expect much. We first shot the 2 1/8" mono herring nets for the last hour of the flood tide, then at slack water shot the 2" nylon nets, so they got the first of the ebb tide. There was far more fish in the 2" nets, but they werent as good quality as the herring from the 2 1/8". The herring spawn around xmas, so they are considered spent, they go thin, so the smaller mesh nets catch more. People think nets are unselective, but it shows that even changing the mesh size by 1/8 of an inch makes a big difference.

brilliant to watch, I can't believe the numbers of cormorant and seals about now it is little wonder there aren't any fish about , It is Ok for the conservationists to push to protect these type of species in nature but they don't seem to see the full picture, they are buggering it up but they will never admit it, keep up the videos and it is nice to learn about it

Cheers, there is about 10000 adult seals and probably 6000 pups within a 8 mile radius of us now, thats a lot of fish eaten per day, but commercials always get the blame.

Cheers mate. It’s a shame the general public don’t really eat herring anymore. To think years ago virtually everyone ate them. I will still keep fishing for them while the adults in the offices let us

On the Norfolk coast, herring fishing is usually at its best in November.
