    If you can't quiet the mind not even 10 hours of sleep will help, you'll still be tired. Great video Rowena 💚

      I love journaling and doing mindfulness meditation for helping me quiet my mind, or at least become more observant of it. What's your favorite way to quiet your mind?

    • @michelleleon
      @michelleleon 2 года назад +11

      @@AlyciaBoutte I try to not use my phone like 1 hour before bed and instead read, journal or meditate. What helps me the most is having mental checks throughout the day. That way I keep my mind in check so it doesn't
      "unleash" everything at night when I'm trying to sleep haha

    I used to really struggle with feeling guilty when resting, especially getting physical rest outside of sleep. It felt like I wasn't using my time "efficiently" if I wasn't focused on being productive 24/7. I'm so glad I've been able to recognize how unhealthy that is and to embrace rest more into my life.

      How did you stop the guilty feeling

    • @AlyciaBoutte
      @AlyciaBoutte 2 года назад +8

      @@canyoustayupallnightstudyt6535 I was forced to change my relationship with productivity and rest when I started having a bunch of health problems that came from stress. I quickly realized that I had to prioritize my health more than overworking myself. Resting was no longer optional. Wishing you the best.

    Sensory rest is so important, and it makes a big difference! As a rule, I pause any media I am consuming whenever I eat. And just focus on the sensation of eating

    I had the deepest and most energising sleep when I was on a spa week with my son when he was about 10. We had a long breakfast in a café in the mornings, walked about 5 km through the village’s park and then spent the whole day in the spa. On the third evening, my son nearly fell asleep in the restaurant next to his plate. We went home and went to bed at 6pm and woke up refreshed at 7am. It was the best week ever ❤️

    I totally understand if you don’t want to answer/make a video on this topic but: How do you manage your time and energy being in a long distance relationship? How do you create healthy boundaries to not burn yourself out or make your partner feel neglected? I’m also in a LDR but my partner is 2 hours ahead of me and while that might seem like nothing, it’s always so stressful putting his time zone into consideration and I’m honestly getting so burnt out on it and feel like I never have any time in my day for myself which is rather ironic.

      Have you tried scheduling in Partner Time? Like say a 1 - 2 hour window where you both check in and talk etc?
      My partner lives an hour away from me (not long distance tbh) and is ALWAYS busy during the day and often in the evenings. I on the other hand, have a very small world so he is unfortunately a large slice of it. (Endlessly working on this aspect...) I have had toxic relationships in the past so my boundary setting and respecting is terrible, whereas he is normal and is very good at this aspect.
      To meet in the middle, it helps me to know that he's busy Wednesday evenings, usually Saturday and often Sunday if I'm not staying at his.
      I try not to bombard him with messages but I'm one of those "messages when I think about it" people. Fairly sure this can be overwhelming so I try not to do it but sometimes I get to the end of the day and he's got 7 unread messages about wildly diff things and I'm like oops... TLDR... again, working on this, bless him for being so patient 🙏
      Idk might help to talk about broadening their horizons so they don't miss you too much and don't rely on you too much for entertainment. But also having an agreed check in time might help, esp with the time zones.
      Good luck you got this! ❤💪

    I FEEL YOU on the nyc thing!! I moved here because I love it but after 6 months of not leaving the city it started wearing down on me, to the point where I questioned if I had made a mistake moving. Turned out all I needed was a weekend away! lmao. Which is a great metaphor for most things in life: sometimes we just need to step away to get a better perspective and appreciate what you already have.

    Experiencing other people’s creativity is such a huge source of rest for me. I remember the first time listening to Rosalia I felt high for like a whole week.
    Also counterintuitively, it’s restful to wake up up in that hour before dawn when the world is so quiet and you feel limitless

    I struggle with overstimulation a LOT. I have a number of podcasts I listen to while doing other things, and I've noticed I've been getting anxious having that in my ears all the time, despite it adding to my learning. Unfortunately, when I do take podcast breaks I then come back to a full queue and feel anxiety about how I have too much to listen to. I need to find a balance and I think part of that is being very thoughtful before adding a new podcast and taking mid-day podcast breaks for 30 minutes or so so I don't "fall behind" (whatever that means in this case :P) but also don't have it constantly droning in the background. Still working on the balance, but it's definitely important to think about! Thanks for an important video!!

    Love that you're covering the importance of rest! Albert Einstein took multiple naps a day and credited rest to giving him major insights. I think you would enjoy and uncover affirming riches about rest by also following The Nap Ministry and their founder's work. It's all based in reclaiming rest and examining the roots of overworking, and how crucial of a role capitalism has played in instilling constant guilt in folks doing anything other than "Producing". The roots of this are deeply tied into racism and unlearning those oppressive mindsets in turn can liberate every one of us since capitalism now impacts us all.

    This video is great! However, let me add that if you are truly regularly experiencing unrestful sleep, you could be suffering from a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or circadian rhythm disorder. My point being, if you follow Rowena's advice and still feel like something is wrong with your sleep, please go see a specialist. It took me years to figure out I had a sleep disorder because I always thought I just wasn't implementing the right habits. Listen to your bodies

  • @alexandrahill9176
    @alexandrahill9176 Год назад

    It has taken me years to realize that resting for the sake of resting is not a guilty pleasure but it's a necessary practice for everybody no matter what they're going through in life. I also learned that I potentially have ADHD and it's really hard for me to keep my mind quiet while I'm trying to sleep so ever since I got a smartphone I have been using it to distract myself and I have taught myself to kind of zone out and fall asleep to my phone which is not good so I'm trying to recreate an old habit when I was in high school and read before I go to sleep. Also, due to having Covid in October 2022, I think I have some long-term covet effects that have to do with brain fog and fatigue so that is also not really helping with the lack of sleep or rest, essentially, that I really do need. Thankfully I have learned when to say no if people ask if I want to go out and do something, but I'm also trying to, as you said, listen to my body and just do something when I want to do the thing no matter what time of day it is or doing in that moment. If I have the urge and I can go do it I'm trying my best to truly listen to myself and just do the thing.

    OMG, this is so true!!! I love this video! I personally try to incorporate all these forms of rest in my life every day, even if it's for 5 minutes a day. It feels to me as anchors or grounding rituals that keep us in our bodies which are just so unconditionally loving and contain all this wisdom. For example: Taking a 2-minute body scan to check in with the body, twice a day, and having reminders set up on the phone. Texting or calling a friend. Going for a walk and taking morning and night time to pray and journal. Also, people who never feel truly rested might have a thing going on with overactive, exhausted adrenal glands so looking at ways to support them also helps.
