He wouldn't have undone his work if he'd thought there was any chance whatsoever of getting paid. This was obviously the final straw after weeks or months of trying to get compensated for his time and supplies.

Always, always, always have a written contract. Even if the work is isn't up to par, that should be an item in the contract. That contract is the evidence needed to take to court. I've remodeled so many rooms in my house this past year, always had a contract, and resolved any disputes via the contract. Plus, do your research before hiring! Don't just take for granted that someone can do what you need. Get reviews from previous customers. So many reasons this did not have to happen.

The contractor 'finished' the work while she was at work and demanded the money before she could come home to inspect said work. She requested to inspect the tiling and plumbing before payment. During her inspection the tile job was botched and done VERY poorly. When she told them that she wasn't happy and would pay the second half when the job was done right (per their agreement), the contractor then climbed through a window and into her home while she wasn't home. A neighbor alerted her and this video is part of what she went home to. What you don't see here is that this contractor also went through the wall and damaged an adjacent rooms wall as well.
I've seen this type of scam pulled first hand before, owner comes in and says the job was done horribly and refuses to pay the remainder of the bill, even though the entire project was done to their exact specifications. It's just another was to try and weasel out of paying up.

Po pierwsze nie wiemy, kto kupił glazurę i terakotę, a po drugie wyraźnie uszkodził nie tylko płytki, ale też wybił dziury w ścianach.

Znam takich cwaniaków co sobie wręcz sposób zarabiania z takiego procederu uczynili - najmują podwykonawców, twierdzą, że prace źle wykonane(wygórowane oczekiwania) i nie płacą a następnie biorą kolejnych podwykonawców i interes się kręci bo robocizna gratis :/
