Everyone please know that a fellow boaters daughter has taken a bad turn and the same family the mother went down. Please show some support to Sailing Spoondrifter, it may not be big for you but this family needs it thanks
My heart breaks for Dave. He has obviously put alot of love, sweat and tears into his buisness over the years. Good of you two to give him a hand cleaning up and i hope he had good insurance.
Over and over i see you two helping your fellow man. You represent the best of our species. I love your happy personalities and following your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
The fire at the marina was tragic but you guys helping out is just how good of a neighbor you really are. Tackling the steering was needed new cables are also warranted but replacing the binnacle base with a new casting should help the longevity of that repair. Good luck with the hurricane.
Lightning down here in Florida has been getting worse over the years just like the hurricanes. I feel bad for the Marina owner but hopefully he had good insurance and will recover soon. Two of my friends both have been widows for the past 8 years or so. Well, they each owned $2 million dollar homes on a canal in Naples. Florida. When Ian hit last year, the water was above their roofs and they lost everything. Either of them had insurance, when their husbands were alive they felt that they didn’t wanna pay the insurance company so much money when they could do the repairs themselves. They immigrated here from Italy back in the early 80s. Now both locks are up for sale, hopefully they can recoup something from their loss. Hurricanes hit anybody, they are not prejudiced at all. Helen, you are so beautiful and smart, you and Ted are doing a great job with your channel. Thanks for keeping it. So interesting, the eye candy isn’t that bad either. Hahaha ❤️❤️❤️ God bless you both and Lord please keep them safe. ⛵️
@@SailingLiberty Shit! A 0 count means directly overhead!!! So glad y'all didn't hit 🙏 Feel really bad for Dave and the Marina, hopefully he'll be able to re build. Stay safe👍🇺🇸❤️

About one year ago, July 29th, our 12-condo building burned down. The wife and I lost everything to someone else's negligence. I am 65 years old. I had a lot of personal property, it's just gone. Just last week, they laid the foundation for the rebuild. We are still homeless and staying with friends. I know the destruction of fire. I'm glad you are safe.
Yes, this video has some really hot moments. Some you wish hadn't happened, and some you wish would have continued quite a lot longer. Oh well. Great video. Thanks guys. And, I hope the Marina comes back together really quick.
It was pretty surreal when lightning stroke and then we saw the smoke and we still cannot believe how much the fire damaged. When we ran out I gave Ted our boat’s tiny fire extinguisher and when we arrived to the marina- electrical fire, it was beyond anything small. Windows were bulging with heat and we heard electricity popping like popcorn. Our boat took the hit as well since we were connected to the shore power. Thanks, Helena
Great job guys! Good thing you were their to help your friends in their time of need. Thank God the fire did not make it to the fuel tanks, it could have made this terrible calamity so much worse. Ted, thanks for the tips on the cable installation and the brinicle control head, really good information for anyone restoring an old sailboat. Just a FYI for Helen. In the future please think about removing the watch and ring before working with ropes, cables or wire. Just want Just want both of you to stay as safe as possible. Another great video guys looking forward to see how you fair with the storm . as soon as I saw the track on Weather Channel I was thinking of you. Good luck!
Wow so much in this episode. Sympathies to Dave. Luckily no one was injured. It could have been so much worse! Great job helping out. You are paying it forward as you always do. You are an inspiration working so hard on those difficult jobs. It is all going to be worth it though and I can't wait to see what happens next.

WOW, sorry to see the fire and it’s loss for everyone, not just the owner! IMHO, take good care of cuts and nail punctures in FL. Great climate for infections and tetanus. Sandals are not the best shoes to wear when cleaning up trash. I saw boots in later shots. Were you able to test the compass heading when finishing the binnacle? Good demonstration on securing cable. Thx for bringing us along. 😊😊😊 John Ken
Awful to see the fire. Trying to figure out what to do or where to run is horrible. So good that no one was injured. Helen, no jewelry while working please. The injuries don't bear thinking about.
WoW...what a scare. When lightning struck and Helen's face lit up in horror...and then we see the actual fire with the real threat of explosion, my heart was torn and I actually trembled in fear for her. The marina owner has the type of personality that makes it very likely for him to eventually overcome this tradegy

Very sorry about the marina fire. My family has been fishing out of there for over 50 years. As to your binnacle rebuild... Please check with Edson/Yacht Specialties again about the orientation of your clamps. I was taught that the saddle goes on the 'dead side'. Also, your shift levers are very smooth. That's good. Be prepared for the throttle lever to 'creep' when you are underway. There may be a clamp in the cable, below deck between the engine and the underside of the binnacle, that retards movement. There might also be a screw IN the new binnacle at the lever shaft that will work. Stay safe.
Hi Edson says the saddle goes to the working part- seem pretty locked! I’m mainly happy to get the thimbles positioned correctly the first try:). Thanks for writing!!!

Just thought the amount of charred contents remaining, as shown in the video, was a bit extreme for the situation, but I wasn’t there, nor was I the IC.
