The fire at the marina was tragic but you guys helping out is just how good of a neighbor you really are. Tackling the steering was needed new cables are also warranted but replacing the binnacle base with a new casting should help the longevity of that repair. Good luck with the hurricane.

Lightning down here in Florida has been getting worse over the years just like the hurricanes. I feel bad for the Marina owner but hopefully he had good insurance and will recover soon. Two of my friends both have been widows for the past 8 years or so. Well, they each owned $2 million dollar homes on a canal in Naples. Florida. When Ian hit last year, the water was above their roofs and they lost everything. Either of them had insurance, when their husbands were alive they felt that they didn’t wanna pay the insurance company so much money when they could do the repairs themselves. They immigrated here from Italy back in the early 80s. Now both locks are up for sale, hopefully they can recoup something from their loss. Hurricanes hit anybody, they are not prejudiced at all. Helen, you are so beautiful and smart, you and Ted are doing a great job with your channel. Thanks for keeping it. So interesting, the eye candy isn’t that bad either. Hahaha ❤️❤️❤️ God bless you both and Lord please keep them safe. ⛵️

About one year ago, July 29th, our 12-condo building burned down. The wife and I lost everything to someone else's negligence. I am 65 years old. I had a lot of personal property, it's just gone. Just last week, they laid the foundation for the rebuild. We are still homeless and staying with friends. I know the destruction of fire. I'm glad you are safe.

It was pretty surreal when lightning stroke and then we saw the smoke and we still cannot believe how much the fire damaged. When we ran out I gave Ted our boat’s tiny fire extinguisher and when we arrived to the marina- electrical fire, it was beyond anything small. Windows were bulging with heat and we heard electricity popping like popcorn. Our boat took the hit as well since we were connected to the shore power. Thanks, Helena

Thank God the fire did not make it to the fuel tanks, it could have made this terrible calamity so much worse. Ted, thanks for the tips on the cable installation and the brinicle control head, really good information for anyone restoring an old sailboat. Just a FYI for Helen. In the future please think about removing the watch and ring before working with ropes, cables or wire. Just want Just want both of you to stay as safe as possible. Very sorry about the marina fire. My family has been fishing out of there for over 50 years.
    As to your binnacle rebuild...
Please check with Edson/Yacht Specialties again about the orientation of your clamps.
I was taught that the saddle goes on the 'dead side'.
Also, your shift levers are very smooth. That's good. Be prepared for the throttle lever to 'creep'
when you are underway. There may be a clamp in the cable, below deck between the engine and the
underside of the binnacle, that retards movement. There might also be a screw IN the new binnacle
at the lever shaft that will work.
    Stay safe.

I do find it very interesting that you as a chief, say to only remove debris that is smoking and only for that reason. Maybe resource back to your NFPA publications on "Fundamentals of Firefighting Tactics,” Rekindled fires show lack of thoroughness and follow-through on the job and can become extreme liabilities for a fire department.
