Happy you survived the storm with no damage. Felt so bad for Helen when she was facing the storm. Always look forward to her smile and cheerful personality. You two have done well. Hope you continue to share your adventures. God bless you.
Superb episode, raw and real. I imagine when the survival elation passed you two slept for 36 hours. A powerful experience to add to you're ever expanding repertoire of skills . God bless.
I have weathered two hurricanes (cyclones) greater than Cat 4 on the Australian scale and I am here to tell you good anchors and shelter are the way to go. I went up a mangrove creek, tied off to the mangroves and set my anchors amidships and set my fenders and plastic Polycraft dinghy amidships with bungs out, while is using wooden fender boards to protect the hull from the mangroves themselves, and battened down putting all sails and equipment below decks, then securing all hatches and sliding portals. The e wind instruments atop the mainmast cashed their cheque at 175 knots--so the wind exceeded that in our sheltered spot. When I need to run moorings across a waterway, I use old re-galvanised recycled anchor chains which sink so that other vessels are not impeded by floating or near floating lines, and that flotsam and driftwood is not built up on my lateral lines. Lotsa luck kids--but preparation is the key to surviving with minimal damage, and I would stay aboard to lengthen cyclone ropes if needed, if there is a BIG tidal surge.
Our boat has survived three or four hurricanes, and several tropical storms, tied off to trees up the river near our house. We don't even put any anchors out, but we tie off to four good trees! And, every time, we see people who only kind of halfway prepare whose boats end up on land or sunk at the marina. You did the right thing.
Hay you two, you well be fine on the Boat......I have road out 3 bad ones on a 65ft it can get a little harry but will be fine ok!!..... Bill in Texas.............
Recently subscribed to your vlog and I am very pleased to see you come through the hurricane unscathed. I was concerned that your lines were only singled and did not have something to prevent the lines from chaffing. Perhaps in the future you would consider that should you be unfortunate to be in the same circumstance. Helen is quite charming and beautiful as women from the Scandinavian region are prone to be. Ted, you are a charmed with good luck all-around. Looking forward to your future vlogs. I will definitely try Helen’s recipe.
That was good to watch 👍been through many Frederick,Ivan,Katrina and Sally and a lot more smaller ones since 1963 on the Alabama Gulf coast 😮Staying on alert till the end of Hurricane season 🤓
Enjoyed your seemingly calm but thot plan to ride out the hurricane .. my nephew rode out the storm a few more miles inland ftkm uour secure hiding place. Thank God for those strong trees ashore as well as forward n aft worthy ground tackle. That taco 🌮 (or whatever it is looks n sounds Devine. Heading for the market for the contents. As always I really enjoyed this video, the threat of a hurricane is no joke, your preparation and move up river was perfect. The food is making me really hungry 😁 gonna try that recipe tonight. Glad y'all are safe 👍🇺🇸❤️
Hello dear adventurers! I follow the fun and exciting videos here in Brazil, this one apparently was very tense but luckily it ended well. I love the couple’s journey. Waiting for the next video...
So pleased you and your home are safe. It must have been a bit scary not knowing how it would impact your life. Cheers .. there's nothing quite like a box of Merlot LOL
Wow! This sounds awesome! We are playing Whiskey in the Jar too, I do it on Ukulele and Ted on guitar, 535 copy. Very hard song to learn for me. We will put the intro song back in the next episode. It was an “emergency episode”. Thanks, Helena
Great job guys! Liked seeing Ted communing with Nature after the storm. You are learning so much and this kind of experience will stand you in good stead. I'm glad ya'll are prepared - I have a friend with a sail boat that was at Crystal River and he did lots of prep and came out with no damage - even helped to clean the bottom tiny bit - I've rpde out a few on a boat it is awesome and leaves you with an adventure unlike anything -
Felt bad for her getting upset and scared of the storm. And I had to laugh when you drank your last beer. I Absolutely Love Riding out hurricanes on the boat. I actually feel safer. And the first thing I do is get me two or three cases of beer. Because sometimes stores are closed for days weeks, months. Y'all never did say how much to win got up to in your area.
Hi Guys, Glad you survived with no scratches. Well down the coast here, I am about 100 yards East of the Gulf and the max wind gust here at the house was 64MPH. Wind wise we got off REAL easy, rain wise about 9 inches. I consider us very lucky, no damage. Only 2.5 months to go yet... ugh!
Ok I tried your recipe. Was awesome. I also got creative and will pass this along. Made a pesto with Sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, basil, and a little Parmesan, Spread that on some Ciabatta bread topped with blue cheese. Toasted the bread first.
Well, ya done did it. You FINALLY fixed the steering quadrant and throttle setup and had a true monster to propel you into a real adventure with an uncertain conclusion. You had me worried about choices about safety of boat versus safety of crew. Thankfully, a sheltered area with proper tie ups allowed us to witness history with you and a happy ending. Thank you for showing that proper preparation and planning can lead to a yummy meal with wine. That had to feel good.
Now you know how it is...less than two years ago, we went through a cat 5 super typhoon in the Philippines...4 hours of around 130 mph winds...then you realize, staying alive is the main thing.
How does a sailor find Helen? Was she looking to crew on a boat and have the good Fortune to find out she got lucky with you? Or was it the other way around? How did it work? Helen is such a strong funny Nordic woman
