Wow! Yes! We have couple of more things to fix to make this beautiful sailboat ready for bigger seas... she was neglected for so-so long that nature started to take over her.
Thanks, we hired an Ukrainian artist to draw our picture: she made the concept whole and it was inspired of the scene where Captain Jack Sparrow came into the harbor with sinking sailboat and paid 3 Shillings for it.
Love love your content and your ability to getter all done so quickly in the yard. If you don’t mind to tell how much was the bottom charge paint by the yard??? You guys are becoming one of the best please keep at it. I have my boat almost ready to splash. 😮when will you untie😮maybe buddy boat for a while?😢😢
Will say Helen is all that! One heck of a navigator, Keen witt " Yes fwd sonar should face fwd! LOL!!, Chef bar none and persuasive negotiator- How could you say no to her sweet smile??🤗Be good to her Ted and so excited for you two as I binge your story.
Now I see why Helena is the worlds greatest cook - she is also the worlds greatest food devourer!lol! Intrigued how she keeps the weight off. Very amusing Ted referring to the OTHER derelict boaters 😂😂 Looks a good repair outcome on the stuffing box project. If you can just sort out the steering issues then will be a much improved boat since landing on the hard. The editing for the story telling is very well done.
Garboard plugs are often installed IN the bilge, not from the outside. Yes, they won't drain completely but they come close enough to do the job. And it is harder to lose them.
Your bolognese looks delicious Helen. When I make mine I chop a small carrot, a stick of celery and some onion to make a soffrito. The best way is to run it through a food processor and add it when browning the meat. Takes all the acidity out if the sauce.
Yes, I add the celery, shredded carrot and garlic too while sautéing the meat. Then I poor a little wine to get the flavor out and sauté it until the alcohol is gone. Finally add the tomato sauce and cook it all together. Top it off with the cheese and Basel if I have 🧀 😋
Just came across your channel this morning…definitely has a good vibe, a good mix of content (people, boat, food, drink, boat work, cruiser life, lighthearted). Best to you folks. 🤗
You should align the shaft when the boat is in the water. The hull changes shape when going from the hard into the water and the alignment usually needs to be adjusted. Good luck!
I just came across your channel now, and I liked the episode. It did make me nervous when you were sanding without safety glasses though, eyes are important.
I start to do stupid mistakes when I am tired. Almost poked out my eye with the screwdriver so now always wear the safety glasses 🥽 if I can find them 😄 Eye patch is not a good look for a Bikini Buccaneer 🏴☠️. Thanks for watching! 😊
Cool work. Just some advice. Too much sealer applied can some times create more problems then what it is intended for. Always put some on from the gun, then smooth it all out with your finger. Then apply next layer. That way one ensure there is no air bubbles trapped that later will find a way out when pressure is applied, and that create a path for water to enter.
Great video, glad you were able to get all that work done in the time you had been given especially the shaft log... that could have really rained on the parade. P.S. Is it called a shaft log in a fiberglass boat?
Thank You! A lot of coffee and pushing the body to the max. Deadwood and shaft log are wooden boat terms but I use them in the absence of anything better:) I figure the deadwood is the aft most part of the keel that is not hollow. On a wooden boat, this part of the keel is comprised of the keel, stern post and the shaft log, with the balance of the structure referred to as the dead wood. On modern boats the shaft log is now a stern tube. The problem area on Liberty is a actually a small bulkhead partitioning that part of the keel, it appears to be filled with concrete and water, capped with fiberglass. Guess it is a wet keel, but that is another story. We are not experts but we are trying to be!
Mao Ta Navigator 41, not much information about this boat. Last owner called the boat Mai Tai 41 and we couldn’t find absolutely any information so we bought her only on instincts
@@aphilippinesadventure9184 We talked with designer Nils Lucander’s son and got the drawings. We want to email again and get maybe couple of pictures of him back in the day. Thank you! 😊 They have multiple facilities in teespring and they ship from the factory to the location what is closest to them. They do US and Europe market separately and are localized.
Ps. We have couple of size large color grey shirts left from the special YT edition. We made small patch for locals were we started and everyone loved them. They are Paragon quality UPF 50+. We wear them in the show. They are like rash guards and silky, people wear them out on the water. sailinglibertyproject@gmail.com is our email if you like, Ted is wearing size M and he is 6 ft.
We barely got the propeller done. We were on the slings when tightening it… Yard squeezed in the bottom paint and had no time to do it either… It will be for the future haul out:)
We have to think which paint we want as well…. And have to make couple things of odds and ends jobs before we can afford the next haul out:) Thanks, Helena
Phew! Just found the channel. Great work you guys, but One of you looks like you’re ready to walk the runway and the other looks like you fell off the turnip truck. ❤. Get that man a shower and a hair tie. Sorry brother, just kiddn. Love you guys. Just bing watched all episodes to this point. Got a few more to go. Congrats on positive attitude and pure grit to get it done. Beauty and the beast.
Cables were actually fine but chain had crevasse corrosion. We have gone from the worst problems to less worse problem. We have done a lot of work off camera and a lot of times all the problems in neglected boat have been piling on the top of each other and it is overwhelming. Our hull was leaking and could have sunken the ship. Our goal was to fix it. We have been driving around the boat before and steering seemed to work fine. Obviously it was not. It was a lucky accident and we learned from this that our chain plates and rigging needs to be renewed. There are a lot of hidden problems in the boat and it has taken a lot of funding and a lot of work and figuring out fixing up this 1980s boat as best as we can. Today steering is fixed with upgrades and it works great. Thanks, Helena
Tagliatelle al ragu is fantastic recipe and as loved as spaghetti Bolognese. If I ever get my hands on fresh pancetta, I would love to try it definitely.
Hey Guys. I’m subscribed to a lot of sailing channels and don’t know why you guys just popped up and I live in Dunedin! If you need some help. Hit me up!
