- I was having issues getting my shifter shaft oils seal out and tried everything I could think of to get it out the normal way. Finally sat and though about it and figured out an easier way.
Sorry he goes to so much trouble for a 10 second seal removal...K-D 2393 shift shaft seal puller
Wish I would have known about that tool before I did that. I would have bought it. If your doing just the seal that would be nice to have.
Did you end up getting the shifter shaft out without taking all the gears out?
Ya you just have to get the bushing and seal out first and you can take it out. You need this tool to push the sleeve in with the shifter pawl. www.denniskirk.com/jims/shifter-mechanism-sleeve-remover-installation-tool-5517.p284318.prd/284318.sku
Their about $20.00. Used it for years on automotive trans shift shaft seals. I told my local Harley shop about it and I thought he would have known already. He about passed out with how fast it is. Just take care installing. Wrap the shaft to protect the seal with a piece of the seal package around the shaft, then slide the seal over the shaft. Use a deep thin wall socket to tap the seal home. remove the plastic off the shaft. Badabing badaboom....
A while back, I was in the primary and planned on replacing that seal since I was already there, but could not see a safe way to do it, so I left it alone. This trick seems fairly easy, thanks.
What about the splines on the shifter shaft seal when sliding the assembly back outwards ??
What do you mean? When you remove the seal you have to replace it. When you put it back on you pull the shaft all the way out and put tape over the splines and a little oil on the tape and slide the new seal on then take the tape off.
@@Notsosamurai1 I understand, but I must have missed the obvious.
Was asking a question was all.
What part number?
For what? The seal?
