Pre-surgery the nurse said to me, "You will love seeing the color White again". I wondered what she was talking about, I could see white. Immediately afterward, I realized I had been seeing yellow for years and presumed that I was seeing white. I also got driven home on an autumn day and saw the real colors of fall leaves for the first time in years. Amazing !!!.

I have just had my second cataract surgery on my left eye only last week. My right eye was done barely 3 months previously. I has made an outstanding difference to the quality of my sight. I no longer need glasses and its like looking in full High definition and full colour. The hardest bit is keeping up with the regime of eye drops particularly the first few weeks but it is easy enough to make a note of each time of taking them. As for the surgery itself again no problem no discomfort and no pain. As all other invasive surgery they all come with risks but from being borderline of having my driving licence withdrawn to 20-20 vision I would gladly have it done again if it was required. Go for it.

I have a list of questions compiled. I don't want to ask the COA. I want to hear everything from the horses mouth. Because later on, someone can deny saying things or claim they would NEVER tell a patient something like that. I need to hear it from the surgeon himself. My concern is more the process. I am a rather large person and laying on my back is not comfortable and inhibits my breathing a little. I also have a lot of anxiety so even though I understand this is a quick and painless and necessary operation, it is still very scary to me. I am hoping they will at least give me a minor anxiety medication prior to the surgery.

I could had it done on the NHS (National health Insurance) for FREE! But the waiting time is awful, about 8 months at least! Can't wait that long as it will get worse so paid £1,300 each eye. I drink little so it makes sense that smoking was a major role. I went for the distant option, my eyes are MUCH better! I used to wear glasses all my life, now i don't except for driving,i can read a number plate at 20 yrs for the driving law here, but can see WITHOUT my glasses....but my glasses makes it that bit sharper! I've needed, someone ironically, +1.75 readers after surgery. Ironically, as that was the power of my readers before.
What I wasn't prepared for when the first eye was done was seeing blue again when looking at the sky.
Later, noticing that I could see some odd shades of violet never saw before. Apparently around 1% of those who have their natural lens removed can see into UV a bit.
LizardMane, cataracts can occur at any age, depending upon the cause. Mine were trauma induced, one being removed in 2009, the other removed a couple of months ago. The 2009 surgery eye needing laser treatment for an opacified lens capsule in 2017 and I anticipate the eye done this year needing laser treatment much sooner

You do feel some pinpricks and some people don't become agitated by them (I am one of those people). But others do. Have you ever seen someone scream when their eyebrow was being plucked for the first time? The slightest thing sets some people off. And plucking your eyebrows does hurt but not in the way that being bashed does, yet some make a fuss about the way the first hurts. They should have had her sleep for the procedure.

This is a great positive video. I had such bad vision my entire life someone thought it was cute to call me Magoo. I had one eye done last week and the next day it was 20/25 though he said my cornea was swollen because I also had astigmatism correction at the same time and it will likely improve even more. But that is a miracle alone. I am having the other one done tomorrow and really looking forward to the outcome. But I was terrified for the first operation. Well, I felt silly after it was so quick and painless. I was wide awake and didn't even signal for anesthesiologist to give me more because I was actually fascinated with what was going on and ended up pretty much chatting with the doctor throughout the procedure. You see all kind of bright colors melting together while it is going on. All that was missing was a psychedelic soundtrack on their overhead. I am having a bit of trouble now adjusting to not being able to read without glasses, but the tradeoff is well worth it when you could barely see 10 feet in front of you without super powerful glasses.

In 2010 I had both of my eyes treated for cataracts. For some 40 years I was very nearsighted and had worn both contact lens and glasses for correction. This all changed when I began a new relationship with one of the foremost opthomologists in the Orlando area of Central Florida. Each eye corrective surgery was a week apart and was done at an outpatient facility and both eyes were numbed using numbing eye drops leading to the ultimate procedure. The entire procedure lasted less than 30 minutes per eye and I returned home and rested the balance of the day. My vision prior to the eye surgery was 20 / 1000 and after the surgery returned to 20/20 where it has remained for the last 12 years. I had my vision corrected for distance vision so I now wear inexpensive readers. The entire procedure was painless, effective and permanent. I did need the additional YAG laser procedure but that corrected the haze that this doctor discussed. That too worked fine and was quick and painless.

a checkup showed that I had swelling on my retina and that I would have to go out of town about 2 weeks later for some
shots to reduce the swelling. In the meantime, the Covid was just getting going full swing and I cancelled my trip because
I was afraid to catch it at my age of 84. I finally received my vaccinations in Jan. & Feb. 2021, but then my son developed
a terminal cancer and I had to take care of him until he passed away in June 2021. By the time I was able to get back for
a checkup, it was too late to do anything about my Left retina and because of scheduling, it was 12/7/21 before I could get the
surgery on my Right Eye and I am not happy with the results because everything I look at is distorted and when I look at a
vertical line, like a door edge, there seem to be bulges that are not really there. Hopefully this can be corrected, but my hopes
    are not too high.

      @TrueFocusEyeCare  2 года назад +3

Unfortunately, the longer swelling within the retina remains, the harder it is to return it back to normal. Let's hope it can be reduced with treatment. Sometime if caught early enough, it can be reduced simply with drops.

I had my cataract surgery 2-1/4 years ago. The whole procedure went great and as stated in the video. The doctors, nurses, and I were talking through each surgery. In fact, about a week after my first eye was done, I was champing at the bit to get in and get the 2nd one done. I had a choice of the eye drops I was to take after the surgery. If I opted for the single combination drops, it would cost me $70 out of pocket. So, I opted to take the different drops. That was annoying to say the least. When I got my other eye done, I took the combo drops.
I recently had my 2nd annual checkup. 20/20 and I couldn't be happier. The doctor was so pleased that I won't go in for another examination for 2 years. BTW, I opted for far vision. Off the shelf reading glasses work great. When I'm driving in bright sunlight, off the shelf sunglasses are all I need.

FYI for anybody contemplating cataract surgery: you get to select whether you want good distant vision or good close up vision. There is, however, another option. If you want both close and distant vision, those lenses are not covered by Medicare, so I was out of pocket $6300 for these lenses. Thus, I know what it's like to select the lenses that supposedly give you both near and far vision and I can tell you folks from experience...don't do it. You won't be happy even after putting out a lot of money. I can see very well in distant vision, but for close up I still have to wear reading glasses. It's not worth the extra several thousands of dollars.

Well, if doing warm compesses twice a day did not help, then you could try getting omega 6 supplements, they are great for dry eyes and have a anti-inflammatory effect that helps with the dry, gritty feeling. There are also programs and discounts that could be used for the drops that you spoke of. Look at their websites and see if you qualify. Other treatments that you can ask your eye doctor about is punctal plugs, lipiflow, or steroid drops. I hope you find some reliefs and feel like yourself again.

      @TrueFocusEyeCare  Год назад

It is not true that glasses will take all the glare away. Glasses will help clear things up, but the glare can last for a while after surgery. Often times glare and sensitivity to light can be an issue becuase your cataract acted like an internal sunglasses, blocking the full amount of light that enters the eye. Now that your window is perfectly clear, all that light can enter, and your eyes are not used to it. It does get better over time, but it does depend on the implant that they used and your natural sensitivity given to you by your genetics.

I am one of the relatively few individuals who had successful cataract surgery followed two years later by a severe retinal detachment. Cataract surgery increases the risk of retina detachment. Now I am practically blind in the eye that had the cataract surgery and retina detachment. The surgeon who did the cataract surgery wanted to do both eyes at the same time. The cataracts were just in very early development. Thank God I only did one eye. However, I may need to get another cataract surgery in the next few years because my glasses prescription has changed (increased correction) in just a year. Now I'm terrified.

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare

I can imagine your hestitation. Now, cataract surgery is almost never done at the same time, so glad you didn't do that. But yes, you are right that cataract surgery does increase the risk for detachments, but usually it's just within a few weeks after surgery. You are rarity, but I would also be hesitant on getting the other eye done. and I'm sure your eye doctor is as well!

Sometimes we notice that certain types of cataracts causes a yellowish-brown tint to the lens that acts sort of like sunglasses, so when they are removed and a clear lens replaces them, then all of the sudden we are getting full light exposure, which can take a while to adjust. Keep those sunglasses on you just in case!

      I felt so cared for.
Surgery took no more than 20 min for me. Dr told me I had the worst cataract in that eye.
Gave me drops to take 3 x"s a day.
It's been 12 days & no problem at all. I can see so clear that its like someone turned a light on.
Follow up visit was the next morning. I passed the eye chart for that eye. (Well I missed one letter so she gave me an eye score of 25.) Colors are so much brighter. And oh so clear.

The best decision of my life was getting cataract surgery in both eyes, the surgery did not hurt but and my vision was blurry the rest of that day, when I woke up the next morning my vision was completely foggy but once I put the eye drops in my eye everything cleared up completely. The next day my vision was completely crystal clear and I could read small letters and numbers at a far distance without blurriness. I believe I can now see better than 20/20 and during my eye test I was able to see all the numbers and letters the doctor asked me to name. It took about 3 days to get superb vision. I highly recommend cataract surgery if you need it.

I just had cataract surgeries in December on both eyes, the left one was the 1st, which the doctor said I was considered legally blind, after the surgery it was like being reborn again, it was so clear and vibrant, I opted for the multi focus optical lenses, because I didn't want to wear glasses again, since I've been wearing glasses since age 5 years old, which were more expensive, but I was happy to not have to wear glasses again except maybe for reading glasses. The procedure was probably 30 minutes at the most, it was the preparation that took some time, I was out of the hospital in an hour. The right eye was the same procedure, but it wasn't as bad as the left eye. I highly recommend going to the eye doctor if you experience cloudiness so bad you can't properly see, because it's worth being able to see again. Don't put it off like I did.

I had my right eye done just 12 days ago, on Sept. 16, and it's amazing how much all the colors around me are so bright and clear now.
The surgery itself took only about 6 minutes---pre-op took far longer, but I appreciate all the extreme care and caution the entire O.R. staff took (and will take again in six weeks when the left eye will be done) to make sure the correct eye was being done on the correct patient (I'm a retired unit clerk and nurse aide, so I do know the importance of getting the right patient in the right place with the right surgery!)
None of the things mentioned in this video were done---my surgeon put a timed-release antibiotic under the upper eyelid, and said that it would release slowly and fully over the course of about 3 weeks. He does that so his patients don't have to mess around with eyedrops, which consideration I very much appreciate.
I have an excellent optometrist who is doing the post-op care, and she is quite certain that I'll be just fine without prescription glasses for at least a few years.
At my advanced age, that's fine with me---if I can go to my grave (cremation) without having to wear prescription glasses, that will be a joyous thing.

Hi Dr. I just had both my eyes done. Its been three days for the left, ten days for the right. My vision goes from very clear to quite blurry throughout the day. Whats going on?

Generally, when the vision fluctuates throughout the day, then it's a problem with dryness. So artificial tears will help, and it will get better over time. But of course, without seeing your eyes this is all generalizations. Don't hesitate to call your eye doctor and get some peace of mind from them.
