    I just had cataract surgery to my right eye 5 days ago. Going well. It's really startling the next day when one eye is so clear. You don't realize how far your eyes have deteriorated because it happens so slowly.
    Yes I was nervous. It's not like someone is doing surgery on a bunion. It was a little more intense than I thought it would be.
    While i was sitting there in Pre-Op, my thoughts were, "What are my options? Wait until I go blind? Wait until I lose my license to drive?"
    Another thought was, "Growing old is not for the faint of heart." So I put on my big boy underwear.
    The surgery itself was quick. My surgeon said he's probably done about 25,000 cataract surgeries over his 25 years of practice. He does about 30 a week.
    5 days out, I go out for walks. I had forgotten how clear signs look at 100 yards. Even the colors of say, evergreen trees, are INTENSE.
    I opted for the Symphony lens. Near vision is acceptable.
    One eye down, one to go.

      Pretty much the same here Bart. Surgery and future surgeries line up with yours. No pain at all. Didn’t see any shadows, just some obscure patterns. Actually drove the next day, but depth perception is not quite there with one eye great, the other to be done in a couple of weeks. Hardest thing was staying on top of the drops schedule. Made a checklist and then could track it. Anyone thinking about it, just do it. Good luck with your left eye Bart!

      He should have reviews comments from at least 300-plus patients to surely/accurately determine his success/happiness rate; sometimes his charms and communication skills overshadow his real ability..? GREY/DANGER ZONES need to be spelt out for future patients?

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  Год назад

      Spelling out the risks of surgery is one of the main steps most surgery centers will do with their patients before surgery. Not to discourage someone or scare them away from surgery, but enough to make them aware and educated on their decision to pursue surgery. Unfortunately most cataract specialists don't always have the greatest social media presence or awareness to ask their patients to write a review, and the age of the patients you see also can dictate how many reviews you get as well.

    Had a traumatic experience 2 days ago during my scheduled appointment for cataract surgery. Zero compassion and sensitivity from the medical staff. Felt like a meat market. Due to my anxiety disorder I took 1 mg xanax prior to my arrival at the center to keep me calm. Due to protocol I was not given any sedation prior to being wheeled into the operating room. Once in the operating room the head of the bed was lowered without warning and my head fell backwards which caused me to freak out. The doctor cancelled the surgery at that point. No one said a word to me or attempted to comfort me. I am still very upset. Question: What is the position of the head for cataract surgery?

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  3 года назад +1

      Some will and some won't. Most doctors will prefer to wait till it's absolutely necessary becuase it is surgery, and even though it's one of the safest and most done surgeries, there is still a chance for complications.

      Most do not experience the same pain/irritation in cataract surgery than they do with LASIK or which ever laser correction surgery you might have had. But any temporary discomfort will be outweighed by the clear vision you will get after removing the cataracts.

      I can do that. Sorry to hear that your daughter has to go through that. The longer you leave a cataract in an infant's/child's eye, the greater chance they can develop a lazy eye. If the retina can't got stimulation from the light, then it slows development. I had a few parents to decided to wait till the child was 2 years old, and the kids are fine now. Sometimes it can take a few weeks for the implant to settle before you see what you'll get, but remember, clear vision after surgery is not guaranteed. If you feel like your vision is worse than expected or you have pain or nausea, then call your surgeon to be safe.

  • @amybradley5821
    @amybradley5821 2 года назад

    I don’t consider it elective if your eyes are not correctable. I do not want to be awake. Have had a lot of surgeries and never feared one until this. Only have one set of eyes and complications could lose your vision. Have scheduled but not sure I can go through with it. Better bad eyes than no eye

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  2 года назад

      When your vision is affected, it is not still considered elective. Cataracts are the #1 cause of blindness in the world (not the US because we treat them regularly), so bad cataracts is basically no eyes. I understand the hesitation, but don't let it stop your living.

      Monofocal surgery usually means that you will have the choice to aim for either good distance vision or near vision after surgery per eye. This still does not a guarantee that you will not need glasses afterwards, tough. Usually, if a near sighted patient needs cataract surgery, I will recommend that they aim for near sighted after surgery, unless they really want change things up!

BTW I had an IQ Vivity lens put in and expected to realize an improvement right out of surgery, but now I understand that is not realistic. I hope in time vision will improve. If not I may opt to have the other eye done in two weeks with a monocular lens and save the $3500 dollars for future glasses.

      If you have medical insurance and that cataracts are hindering your vision enough to affect your daily life, then your insurance will help pay for the surgery. Even if you choose the cheapest option, the cataracts will be gone, and you won't have to worry about them ever again.
