Thank you! My surgeons did not go over lenses, before surgery. Everything has a violent tint and cloudy. I have Fuchs, so eventually will have a cornea transplant. However, I was able to read large font the first two weeks after surgery.
Very informative, thanks. Have a checkup and consultation in May. Was hoping for 20/20 after surgery with basic mono for distance, and using cheaters for close work. Currently wearing no line bifocals and scrip keeps going higher with no help, either near or far. We will see (pun). Thanks again for the video/.
I had 6.5 diopters of astigmatism...wore glasses since I was 19. I had my cataract surgery in Sioux City...and had toric lenses...I now see 20/20 for distance. It is a whole new world for me. VA paid for the procedure and the lenses as well. I will get scoped for reading glasses this week. I highly recommend that anyone who needs cataract surgery and who has a high degree of astigmatism to consider this procedure after consultation with your ophthalmic surgeon.
Thanks Dr. Wong, Your cataract videos are some of the best out there. I appreciate the time you've taken to make these videos. I'm one week out from surgery with Vivity Toric IOL, looking forward to second surgery next week.
I've had basic cataract surgery in both eyes at the Veteran's hospital and I love the job that they did. I'm 74 and can read without glasses. My vision is clear, and I'm very pleased.
At 04:20, you said that with Astigmatism Correcting Surgery option glasses are needed for up close, but at 4:30 you state microscopic arcuate incisions in the periphery or a Toric IOL corrects astigmatism for computers & reading without glasses? It shows someone reading a memo up close.
Hi doctor I have astigmatism more in left eye plus myopia in both eyes but more on the left eye.i developed cataract. I need to the surgery for cataract..I want to fix the astigmatism and and vision correction at all distances So can the IOL implant be toric and mutifocal at the same time If possible can I do it in your clinic by you and how much will be the total cost of procedure and after care? I live in Egypt Thanks My name is Ashraf I am 64 years Retired ENT SURGEON in Alexandria, Egypt
I had cataract surgery in both eyes. I received the basic IOL that gave me clear long distance vision and I purchased new eyeglasses with progressive lenses for reading and computer work. My left eye is perfect. My right eye was a bit blurry at distance and I was told this was because I had some slight astigmatism in that eye. They never told me this before surgery and consequently was corrected with the prescription for my new glasses as opposed to laser surgery at the time the IOL was implanted. I was disappointed to say the least. The question I have is can I still get laser surgery on my right eye after I had the IOL implanted to correct this slight astigmatism?
One question that I can’t seem to get answered. Can I get an astigmatism correcting lens using basic surgery with no laser involved? The added cost of the laser is more than I can afford. Thanks
Very comprehensive, thank you. My Ophthalmologist went over everything with me but I already forgot some of it. I cannot wait for my procedure date and my new panoptix lens.
Hope you see this comment / question. Have ptosis of both eyes. This condition is creating monocular diplopia in main eye (left eye too weak to matter). Suspect this issue is permanent and has induced irregular astigmatism in the cornea(s). Current docs won't correct ptosis until after cataract surgery, as ptosis is sometimes induced by the cataract surgery. Fine. Let's do the cataract surgery, use a toric lens & possibly a little laser work to fix the irregular astigmatism. Eyes heal up, still have ptosis which will still induce the double vision again immediately. So ptosis surgery now fixes droopy eyelids, and the astigmatism the ptosis caused again goes away. Does this screw up all that surgery & toric lenses?
I have a big cataract on my right eye..to the point of it being very nearly useless.I would be satisfied with any improvement..never mind 20/20 without glasses. Thanks for explaining things so well.I am very near sighted and have dry eyes so it will be riskier for me and my results will not be as good most likely.i sure do hope there's no complications!I do have a question...how risky is cataract surgery when you have dry eyes and are very nearsighted?it probably isn't 98 percent sucessful ,but hopefully is at least 90 percent sucessful.
Dr Wong thank you for the informative videos. You had mentioned in the past you are using Panoptix 9-1 with Symfony lens. When do you find the Symfony lens is more useful? I have a Macular Hole resolved and am debating over the two.....
I primarily use the symfony lens in patients that have had prior radial keratotomy (RK) surgery. I have placed the panoptix and symfony lenses in patients with macular pathology such as macular holes. With proper guidance and preoperative expectation management, most patients do very well with both lenses in the presence of macular pathology.
@@ShannonWongMD Thank you so much! I do have a Vivity lens at present but the vision is surprisingly poor. Can only read J1 and items/words are not sharp for several feet after 6 months. I can see distance but went from 20/20 to 20/40. It also seems like I am looking through a window so am needing guidance on which lens would be more optimal. I worry that if the panoptix is blurry it would be more difficult to correct with glasses later...but maybe not the case? Thank you for your reply

Great information! Much more thorough than my surgeon provided.

If you have bad cataracts does insurance cover anything if you get fancy lens implants? Or do you just pay for fancy lens?

Can you have cataract surgery in both eyes the same day?
hi, may i ask. how much is the basic cataract surgery, astigmatism surgery and premium lens replacement cost?
Depends on your insurance and whether you have visually significant cataract or not.
Hope you see this comment / question.

After using multi focal toric IOL to correct astigmatism and presbyopia, will they come back over time and still need a glasses later on?
Can I get the astigmatism correction after a basic i.o.l...3 months later?
