I’ve put 100’s of thousands of miles on Honda automatics and never had an issue, not even one. Of course I do all the scheduled maintenance and I don’t fall for that manufacturer “ fluid needs never be replaced” bs.
I have 1999 Accord with 313,000 and it still runs great with just occasional slips on the transmission and my 2013 Acura TL has 127,000 with absolutely no problem with the transmission. My wife has 07 Civic with 182,000 miles and all she does on that car is oil change but I have seen several friends with Toyota's having transmission and engine problems with less than 150,000 miles. I personally believe Toyota is just as good as Honda, but Honda has a better reliability than Toyota. Scotty like most old people, still believe that Toyota is still the same as they were several years ago but in reality, their reliability has taken a dip over the past few years mostly due to their ambition to become the largest car marker in the world thereby sub-contracting most of their manufacturing process to third parties companies all around the globe.
In my family there are an ‘03 Civic, ‘07 TSX, ‘08 Accord , ‘09 Civic, ‘13 RDX , only regular service “by the book”, still waiting for a problem with automatic transmission !!!
I purchased Acura 2002 Tl Type S in 2011 at 160k miles. Every year I drive up to 20k miles. The transmission working perfectly fine until 370k miles. As long as I take care of basic maintenance, the old Acura runs like a champ.
My 2004 Honda Pilot AWD (Same Engine/Trans as an Acura MDX) has 150K miles and never a problem with the Trans or anything for that matter! Once again, Scotty pushing Toyota and Lexus. He must own a lot of stock with them!
Its Based on what is being brought to him by customers as well as the information from fellow mechanics and studies done like consumer reports. What Scotty said is right, Honda/Acura has had transmission problems. The data backs him up on that. There is nothing wrong with telling people the truth so they know what they are getting into.
Cousins 06 pilot transmission needs replacing. Driven to Vegas and Canada from Northern California a few times. I believe it was under 200k when they got rid of it. Great car until then.
I have owned two Acuras...My first was a 2001 Acura 3.2 C.L coupe and I really loved it.... Now I own a 2015 T.L.X four door sedan with a six cylinder engine...I loved the first one and I am falling in love with the second one...Time will tell ...............................................
we have a 1999 Honda Accord and it's pushing 250,000 miles the transmission hasn't been touched other than regular maintenance. I think you're confusing them with Subarus.

I don't know how I got into this video. The Car Doctor. Great video this reminds me of a show I used to watch called "Motor Week" You have so much knowledge in automobiles. I have to disagree about Honda's Transmission. My sister bought a 93 Honda used with 75,000 miles. By the time she sold it she put a total of 188,000 miles on the car and the car was still in good condition. My sister only took the car to one mechanic she maintained the car with regular tune ups & winterizing. The basic service oil changes The only repair I recall she ever did was changed radiator
2005 Acura TL 3.2 with V6 I have 300k miles still runs GREAT .. just keep up with routine maintenance and everything's been fine I've had to replace two timing belts but that's been the only major thing with one radiator replaced and new spark plugs once with a valve adjustments in the lifetime in this awesome car zooom
I would .. But always take it first to a mechanic and have them do a quick overview of the engine and transmission. I think it's a sporty car there fast as crazy great handling car and my mechanic says as long as I keep maintenance up on it I could get possibly 500k out of it cross my fingers good luck my friend
I have an 04 tl and I love it!! 36mpg on the highway!?? V6 super high output power!??? 182k mi and this thing is still very very fun and strong to drive no leaks on the driveway! I bought it 5k mi ago for $4k new transmission, new exhaust, new tires, needs an alignment but the shocks are new also
I’ve had an 02 civic ex coupe 5 speed when I got rid of it had 175k miles and ran Strongggg and now have an 08’ TL-S 6 speed with 115k miles and run beautifully. I love Honda/Acura and I believe the some of the brand new ones might have issues but overall they are great cars.
My ‘06 TL with 167k miles remains a rock-solid performer. I’ve added various performance mods that increased fuel economy by 2 mpg along with improved acceleration, improved handling & brakes; actually, the bone stock setup was fine.
@TheGamingWolfYT …the mods I added. ::kidding:: I added: >3.7L magnesium intake for a ZDX >3.7L throttle body >Throttle body spacer (increases intake fuel charge) >AEM cold air intake for a 3.5L J35 engine >Denso Iridium plugs >Performance engine mounts that virtually eliminate engine lash upon acceleration >Exhaust tuned aftermarket J pipe (functions like headers) >High-flow mid catalytic converter >Greddy stage 3 custom mandrel bent racing exhaust system that increases pipe diameter by 1/2”, eliminates mud-muffler & resonator, and employs oversized Greddy straight flow-through muffler cans >Also coilover performance suspension, performance rear sway bar, brake upgrades to pads, stainless steel lines, & cross-drilled rotors. From reads of other Gen 3 TL owners off the Acurazine website who posted dyno results, my car is making around 290-300 flywheel up from stock 258. It feels faster & it corners like a go cart.
Scotty is SO right about modifying the trucks! I see this all of the time in the shop, customers complain that their car doesn't drive right after having a lift kit installed or huge mud tires on a small pickup or Jeep. Of course it doesn't drive right on the highway, its been modified for off road usage!
The main thing with Acura’s are. 1 you have to run premium gas 2 the resale on them is surprisingly low even when talking about compatible Honda models. Trans haven’t been an issue in Acura’s for over 12-13 years
I just bought a 2013 RDX awd but aparently some people do have trans issues, i just hope its nothing major. Im just curious where you got that 12-13 years from?
I love my 2006 acura csx type s 6 speed manual. Best car I've ever owned. Its at 350k miles. Still running strong. All my best friends have acuras never had problems. My one friend has an rsx tpe s and my other has a tsx.
I love your videos... I watch them all. You allowed me to be proud of myself... I drilled holes in the bottom of my Escort GT headlights 25 years ago. It worked & I've been doing it ever since. Thanks for all the great information day after day. Greetings from northeastern MN!
@D B Could happen if you drill the turn signals too... Always keep a spare jug in the trunk. NEVER drill holes in your muffler though or the muffler bearings will fall out!!
07 RL owner since 124k miles at 172k now. Done basic maintenance stuff, my only complaint is the transmission is a little jumpy between gears. I don't think its going out, its just very reactionary. Other than that absolutely flawless vehicle and I'll take it as long as she'll go.
A general rule regarding honda/acura vs toyota/lexus is: hondas manual transmissions > toyota, and toyota automatics > honda, in terms of reliability. They both make solid motors, but the transmission will always be the first major component to give on cars. Also, hondas tend to be more sporty and reliable while toyota sticks to reliabe and comftorable
I have a Acura MDX and I take great care of it and net every thing they asked to take care of my Acura. Original trans with Zero problems. I drive it careful because it’s my touring car. I always carry extra things like Tools, extra filters for inside and out with extra apart plugs extra coil packs and fluids. My off road action is carefully driving to our favorite lake which is becoming more difficult due to young off roaming kids who don’t care. So we haven’t in years because I don’t want to damage my car. Now I am handicap due to cancer so I don’t drink it much and only put between 1 to 3 miles in it a day. The furthest I go is 80 in a day to see my mom which is three to four months a year. I take great care. No trash what so ever. No dirt anywhere. Wash it once a week. I love the drive in this SUV.
Not all Acuras are expensive to fix and maintain, especially if you're a DIYer. The 2004-2008 TSX is a great example and it's what I drive for a daily. Almost all chassis/suspension/brake parts are interchangeable with 2003-07 Accords, and the aftermarket/OEM replacement/eBay/Amazon selection is HUGE. Just about everything can be gotten for cheap and repair isn't horribly difficult for most stuff. Just stay far away from the Acura/Honda stealership for service and they can be cheap and easy to maintain and last just as long as your average older Honda.
I've owned 2 Acuras and they both had a faulty air-conditioning system, that the dealership failed to see anything wrong with. When I was ready to sell the car, the same dealership told me they'd pay me $1,000 less than bluebook because the a/c compressor was "shot". The Acura rep also disapproved a warranty repair on me claiming it was my fault. Apparently, a small scratch of the right fender was the "cause" of my cooling system failing. What a load of crap!
I have a 1996 3.5 rl with now 220k on it faded paint but still runs strong and is driven off road on road rain snow sleet or hail hasn't skiped a beat. And another thing I got it for free I've been driving it my self for 4 years now 😉
I have owned both an Acura MDX and a Lexus RX350. I am a long-time Acura owner who has convinced many friends and family members to purchase Acura vehicles. I do agree with you. When it comes to the mid-size SUVs, I would go with the Lexus before the MDX.
I missed the livestream when I asked a question about Acura, so it's good to hear your advice on the maker, Scotty. Do you archive your livestreams? If so, where?
Scotty, Thank you for your service.... to us DIYers..... Appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge in trying to help... It says a lot about your character.
The legend was built based on german rivals such as that of the S- class of the time. That is why the Legend turned out to be such a magnificent car in terms of performance and reliability
Unfortunately they decided the car was not making profits and it was getting costly to compete against Lexus, BMW and MB. Production dwindled and eventually they discontinued the Legend in the USA. 1st generation legend was an excellent handling car for the price and options, 2nd generation was a complete improvement over the previous model but the 3rd generation seems lost the overall feeling of luxury and lackluster design that extended into what we know as the acura RL re-design. Technically the Acura legend nameplate lasted 10 years. The RL was a poor redesign, aging design, in comparison to what lexus, MB and BMW had out in the market. Any of you still have an Acura Legend with under 100k miles that car has a lot of life.
Spot on Scotty. Transmission on Acuras only gave me fits. Failures within 60,000 miles on one, failure on a V6 Honda Accord within 30,000 on another. Everyone tells me that it was a fluke, but then I find out that they had problems within 100,000 miles themselves.
He is absolutely 100% correct regarding Acura cars. I owned an MDX for 9 years. Nice ride, but Acura quality is a myth - too many interior dash components needed replacing (fortunately under warranty). Truth is what he stated - Acuras are just fancy Hondas.
I had 05 Acura TL, at 123k miles transmission failed so I traded her for 07 Mercedes-AMG E55! It’s a bulletproof car now had 256k miles and still pull like brand new.
Manual Transmission Acura cars are some of the greatest used cars out there. They usually sell for very cheap because vast majority of luxury car buyers have absolutely no clue how to drive stick.
Nope. Manual transmission Acuras go for more. The 6MT TSX goes for 1k or 2k more than the AT TSX. It's much more desirable on the used market because of car enthusiasts.

Scotty like most old people, still believe that Toyota is still the same as they were several years ago but in reality, their reliability has taken a dip over the past few years mostly due to their ambition to become the largest car marker in the world thereby sub-contracting most of their manufacturing process to third parties companies all around the globe.
English guy here. Your acura tl/tsx was our honda accord...
In my family there are an ‘03 Civic, ‘07 TSX, ‘08 Accord , ‘09 Civic, ‘13 RDX , only regular service “by the book”, still waiting for a problem with automatic transmission !!!
arturo j guzman did you have any problems with the 07 Acura TSX engine ?
I purchased Acura 2002 Tl Type S in 2011 at 160k miles. Every year I drive up to 20k miles. The transmission working perfectly fine until 370k miles. As long as I take care of basic maintenance, the old Acura runs like a champ.
Smoking crack inna bucket 😂😮💨
Been driving 2 second hand tsx for five years and they are solid reliable cars
I recently bought an 87 Acura legend. And my parents have a 2003 Acura MDX. Both running strong.
My 01 TL still riding with 250k on the clock. I just gave it to my moms in law and bought a 2016 tlx shawd advanced package.
Love Scotty' s videos. Thumbnails are hilarious. Great stuff 😊 😊 👍 👍
Keith Parfitt I agree! Those pics are a show in itself!
LOL
I have owned two Acuras...My first was a 2001 Acura 3.2 C.L coupe and I really loved it....
Now I own a 2015 T.L.X four door sedan with a six cylinder engine...I loved the first one
and I am falling in love with the second one...Time will tell ...............................................
we have a 1999 Honda Accord and it's pushing 250,000 miles the transmission hasn't been touched other than regular maintenance. I think you're confusing them with Subarus.
how did you put that many miles on it unless you bought it used?
@@ronvalley1973 we took care of it it's the 2.3 l f single cam great car only problem was plug wires in that was at a 170000 put new in and it's just as happy as can be it runs so well if I could go back and buy it and do it all over again I would this car has been nothing but a blessing.
@Kyle Johnstone they're great cars I'll buy another brand new.
I have a 2013 Subaru Forester now with 135k miles and runs like new along with my Mercedes
Subaru’s are very reliable. Some Honda V6 transmissions were problematic. .
I just got a 2006 Acura with 52,000 miles. Absolutely fallen in love with it.
Those pictures are hilarious 😂
Diecast Cars Garage they were soooo funny this video
I don't know how I got into this video. The Car Doctor. Great video this reminds me of a show I used to watch called "Motor Week" You have so much knowledge in automobiles. I have to disagree about Honda's Transmission. My sister bought a 93 Honda used with 75,000 miles. By the time she sold it she put a total of 188,000 miles on the car and the car was still in good condition. My sister only took the car to one mechanic she maintained the car with regular tune ups & winterizing. The basic service oil changes The only repair I recall she ever did was changed radiator
Acuras are great! I have a 2008 TL Type-S and it's been awesome.
I see lots of Acura 05 06 07 08 pretty reasonably priced with decent miles. I love the RL.
Man; I love real people! You know, people who speak to their common sense and experience.
I can't say anything about reliability, but I like Acura, but I like the design of their models way more than the ones from Lexus and Infiniti.
I love my Acura TSX 2012❣️🖤
Have you had any problems with it? I'm looking to purchase one
@@koffeecakes83 did you end up gettin it?
@@boutabag.a4899 no I got the CT200H Lexus
@@koffeecakes83 my 2012 TSX has 108k miles. No issues at all, driven it coast to coast
@@cris1323 I’m think of get a 2013 tsx 48k miles
I had a 2004 Acura RSX, 5spd manual, God I loved that car, best manual transmission I ever drove!!
How many miles?
The worst Honda transmissions were made between 1999-2004.
Are 2010s okay?
Beavis Wong yes they are I have a 2010 tl with 189,000 and all I do is change the oil every 3 mo
Totally agree
Yup 02 tl type s. Trans went at 150k now has av6. Just passed the 1 full year aftet install now at 170k hopefully this one lasts
the RSX Type S is known for their 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd grind, other than that it’s a very reliable car and fun to drive
Owner of a 2003 Acura TL aspec absolutely love it
I'm glad I subscribed to this channel scotty you are awesome
thanks for the support!
No problem keep up the great work
raul garcia he thinks that evaporation happens downward...... umm
2005 Acura TL 3.2 with V6
I have 300k miles still runs GREAT .. just keep up with routine maintenance and everything's been fine I've had to replace two timing belts but that's been the only major thing with one radiator replaced and new spark plugs once with a valve adjustments in the lifetime in this awesome car zooom
Would you recommend me getting one? It’s at 174k miles and it’s $3,800
I would .. But always take it first to a mechanic and have them do a quick overview of the engine and transmission. I think it's a sporty car there fast as crazy great handling car and my mechanic says as long as I keep maintenance up on it I could get possibly 500k out of it cross my fingers good luck my friend
Acura fixed the MDX transmission problems somewhere around 2010.
I have an 04 tl and I love it!! 36mpg on the highway!?? V6 super high output power!??? 182k mi and this thing is still very very fun and strong to drive no leaks on the driveway! I bought it 5k mi ago for $4k new transmission, new exhaust, new tires, needs an alignment but the shocks are new also
Got an Acura TSX 6 speed manual, and it's been an amazing car so far!
What year? How’s it holding up and how many miles
Acura SUV : My 2002 MDX had 250kMI and runs stronger than anyother car on the road. The thing is a beast.
Put 340,000 kms on my 2007 rdx and the guy i sold to 6 months ago is still driving it
I’ve had an 02 civic ex coupe 5 speed when I got rid of it had 175k miles and ran Strongggg and now have an 08’ TL-S 6 speed with 115k miles and run beautifully. I love Honda/Acura and I believe the some of the brand new ones might have issues but overall they are great cars.
My ‘06 TL with 167k miles remains a rock-solid performer. I’ve added various performance mods that increased fuel economy by 2 mpg along with improved acceleration, improved handling & brakes; actually, the bone stock setup was fine.
what mods?
@TheGamingWolfYT …the mods I added. ::kidding::
I added:
>3.7L magnesium intake for a ZDX
>3.7L throttle body
>Throttle body spacer (increases intake fuel charge)
>AEM cold air intake for a 3.5L J35 engine
>Denso Iridium plugs
>Performance engine mounts that virtually eliminate engine lash upon acceleration
>Exhaust tuned aftermarket J pipe (functions like headers)
>High-flow mid catalytic converter
>Greddy stage 3 custom mandrel bent racing exhaust system that increases pipe diameter by 1/2”, eliminates mud-muffler & resonator, and employs oversized Greddy straight flow-through muffler cans
>Also coilover performance suspension, performance rear sway bar, brake upgrades to pads, stainless steel lines, & cross-drilled rotors.
From reads of other Gen 3 TL owners off the Acurazine website who posted dyno results, my car is making around 290-300 flywheel up from stock 258. It feels faster & it corners like a go cart.
Yea what mods!?
@@genesis204 Please read what I had posted above.
Lost my 96 Honda Accord v6 to a transmission failure, but it was at 370,000+km still miss that car
Can't remember the last time I saw an Acura Legend on the road!
Scotty is SO right about modifying the trucks! I see this all of the time in the shop, customers complain that their car doesn't drive right after having a lift kit installed or huge mud tires on a small pickup or Jeep. Of course it doesn't drive right on the highway, its been modified for off road usage!
Love your added images in the corner!
Price on those SUVs are outrageous.
I had 1995 Honda Accord EX and 2007 Honda Accord EX and both of them I pulled 17ft Aquasport and a 13ft casita camper both Honda’s did great pulling
I love my 2006 acura csx type s 6 speed manual. Best car I've ever owned. Its at 350k miles. Still running strong. All my best friends have acuras never had problems. My one friend has an rsx tpe s and my other has a tsx.
My 2003 Acura mdx 23500 miles still has the original transmission have no problems just keep up with the maintenance
I love your videos... I watch them all. You allowed me to be proud of myself... I drilled holes in the bottom of my Escort GT headlights 25 years ago. It worked & I've been doing it ever since. Thanks for all the great information day after day. Greetings from northeastern MN!
hello and thanks for the support👍
@D B Could happen if you drill the turn signals too... Always keep a spare jug in the trunk. NEVER drill holes in your muffler though or the muffler bearings will fall out!!
LOl.Did the same with my 86 Escort

my cat will sub you
07 RL owner since 124k miles at 172k now. Done basic maintenance stuff, my only complaint is the transmission is a little jumpy between gears. I don't think its going out, its just very reactionary. Other than that absolutely flawless vehicle and I'll take it as long as she'll go.
The little pictures are hilarious with your explanations
A general rule regarding honda/acura vs toyota/lexus is: hondas manual transmissions > toyota, and toyota automatics > honda, in terms of reliability. They both make solid motors, but the transmission will always be the first major component to give on cars. Also, hondas tend to be more sporty and reliable while toyota sticks to reliabe and comftorable
Always good content Scotty!
Have an rsx 03 with 230k and that thing has never done me bad and still runs strong
It it 5spd or auto
Just stay far away from the Acura/Honda stealership for service and they can be cheap and easy to maintain and last just as long as your average older Honda.
great looking car too especially with a spoiler
The video opens up immediately with what's in the thumbnail. Gotta love Scotty .
Ahh, the Stealerships
My sister rolled her new Acura MDX for 12yr with nearly 0 problems. She was very happy with the SUV. Her husband used a Lexus SUV & liked it.
I had an '87 Acura Legend Coupe ... best Acura I've ever owned!!
I have a 1996 3.5 rl with now 220k on it faded paint but still runs strong and is driven off road on road rain snow sleet or hail hasn't skiped a beat. And another thing I got it for free I've been driving it my self for 4 years now 😉
2019 RDX here. 2000 miles still still runs like new.
LOL. thanks. we are thinking of an MDX or RDX in a couple of years. We want a sportier drive, rather than toyota's.
Impressive.
LOL...glad your car is still reliable after 2k. We like these latest Acura's. Wife cannot get get past that atrocious grill on the Lexus.
If you dont drive like a maniac & keep your fluids, service up, your SUV or car should hold up...
🤣🤣🤣
I have owned both an Acura MDX and a Lexus RX350. I am a long-time Acura owner who has convinced many friends and family members to purchase Acura vehicles. I do agree with you. When it comes to the mid-size SUVs, I would go with the Lexus before the MDX.
I missed the livestream when I asked a question about Acura, so it's good to hear your advice on the maker, Scotty. Do you archive your livestreams? If so, where?
RoflCopterDesigner no he doesn’t anymore. He just makes these quick short Q&As from his livestream.
Love Acura. They have the most classic designs that continue to look good for years.
Every time I get a notification on your videos, I give you thumbs-up before I even watch them brother!!!

Thank you for all your videos they really help
i still have my acura legend i bought it new it was my first car
Same i have a 1989 Acura legend with 97k miles
I got a 2000 acura tl and it runs AMAZING!!
Seal the crack😂2:37
Lol those illustrations always crack me up!
@@Mo.Jo. I see what you did there
Spot on Scotty. Transmission on Acuras only gave me fits. Failures within 60,000 miles on one, failure on a V6 Honda Accord within 30,000 on another. Everyone tells me that it was a fluke, but then I find out that they had problems within 100,000 miles themselves.
I almost became a mechanical engineer watching your videos scooty ! Love from India 💕

Have a 2002 Acura TL with 260,000 miles still going strong. Bought it with 140,000 miles
Acura RSX type S for 7 years + over 200,000 miles and 0 issues
Gabriel Alvarez I’m looking to buy a type s as my first car. Any thing I should look out for?
Peter D they’re very fun cars and reliable, look out for their transmissions. they like to grind 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd, torn seats, window actuators
He is absolutely 100% correct regarding Acura cars. I owned an MDX for 9 years. Nice ride, but Acura quality is a myth - too many interior dash components needed replacing (fortunately under warranty). Truth is what he stated - Acuras are just fancy Hondas.
Nothin' like highlights from the big Scotty Kilmer Cartalk games!
I had 05 Acura TL, at 123k miles transmission failed so I traded her for 07 Mercedes-AMG E55! It’s a bulletproof car now had 256k miles and still pull like brand new.

I don't get it.
look at the pic, yep, he did
I don't either
Yeah, I don't get it, people explain.
The idiomatic expression "the birds and the bees" should help.
