    Dealt with bedsores on my aunt for 17 years, and the one thing that her wound care doctor told me that I remember is, bleeding is a good sign. It means that the area still has good blood flow going into the area. Which means that it will eventually heal.

      Wow, I pretty much just posted the same thing about bleeding tissue! It’s so true about tissue that bleeds means it’s still alive, has blood flow (obviously) and has a better chance of healing. I too dealt with a lot of bedsores while I worked as a CMA (not a CNA) in a Nursing home. This particular nursing home had a lot of problems with bed sores because over half of the patients were bed ridden and the bloody CNA's didn't do their damn jobs properly! I would get so damn. As when I would go into a patients room to give them Their medications and they were in the SAME position they were in the last time I had been in their room! Some up to 6-8 hours! I went to the head nurse one day when I went into "Mr. Johnson's room" to give him his afternoon medications and the man had tears streaming down his cheeks. I asked him what was wrong and all he could do was try to point and I knew he must have a bed sore. I changed his position and when I checked where he had been trying to point to I was livid… not only did he have a bed sore, he had a stage FOUR bed sore and it was completely open… when I had changed his position, the bottom bed sheet had been adhered to the place and pulled away revealing one of the worst untreated bedsores I had ever seen!!! I was new to this particular nursing home having only been working their for a couple of weeks. This particular patient had not been on my treatment schedule until that day. I couldn’t be.I’ve what I was looking at! I went and got the RN on duty and she walked in took one look at the man and went to fire the CNA's and NA's that had been working this particular wing of the facility… Mr. Johnson had to be taken to the hospital to have that ulcer surgically debrided and was there for a week before he came back to the facility… when he came back, I took over his wound care… I like to use Silvadine or silver alginate when I treat open wounds… they heal so much better and faster than just changing the dressings… Mr. Johnson made a full recovery and every patient I had on my rounds, were bedsore free or on their way to being so… I rode the CNA's butts about Changing the positions of these patients so something like what happened to mr. Johnson never happened again!

      I came to the comments to say this. Bleeding means live tissue and the body still has a chance to heal. It can send in granulation fluid to help rebuild tissue and white blood cells to keep infection at bay.
      Pus also isn't totally a bad thing because it's comprised of dead bacteria, unless it's a closed inflammatory lesion, and dead white blood cells, which is why it's often whitish in color, that have fought and killed the bacteria. It does often still contain bacteria, so it's important to flush it out, but it's not a bad sign.

  • @petralau4693
    @petralau4693 9 месяцев назад +319

      Yeah, a good blood supply means the flesh isn't necrotic, and can help flush the wound of bacteria and some of that muck. If you mess with something that looks that lacerated and it doesn't bleed, or bleeds super thick, that's a *problem*.

    I want to address this as someone who has owned, trained, bred, and shown horses for over 30+ years. Graeme's knife work is EXCEPTIONAL. When I couldn't get a farrier out ( lived way out in the country), my daughter and I had to do trimming ourselves on young horses. Not only do you have to have a VERY VERY sharp hoof knife and rasp, but it takes so much practice and precision to make cuts like this!! This cow literally looks like she has a brain in her FOOT !! WOW! Thank you so much Graeme ( sorry if I spell this wrong) I enjoy your videos and talk to my farrier and horses about your work!! 🤣 We are fans!

      I know it’s not always like this, but I am confident within my heart that some animals, especially those who are in a bad state, on some level know that the healer is trying to help.
      I have a trio of cats that were born to a very feral stray. I captured her and the kittens right after they were born (3 days) to save them from the animal exterminators. The feral momma was very sick with an upper respiratory infection. I got her to the vet and had to administer eye ointment and antibiotic pills to her regularly. I was expecting to be cut to ribbons in the process, but she didn’t. Whether it was her illness or if she knew that I was giving a safe home to her and her kittens, but she just laid there. Putting up with pills and ointments until she was better. And she made a full recovery and was able to properly nurse her kittens.
      (Unfortunately she was too feral to keep domestically. But I got her all her shots and had her spayed and released to a safer area nearish where she roamed before. I tried to set her up for the best life she could have. And her kittens live with me, fat and happy house cats.)

    I think 5:44 is a good example of the tissue being so damaged that it will bleed without Graeme accidentally cutting it. You can see him brush against the big growth with the back of the hook, but it only starts bleeding when he starts to put pressure on the knife away from the growth. The tissue is so damaged that the pulling caused by the knife is enough to make it bleed.

    That poor cow. I agree this is the bloodiest video to date but I know for sure you didn’t make her bleed at all. It didn’t help her to have all that muck packed in the broken part of her hoof. It had to be so painful to have the pressure & the sting of dirty yuck on her bare corium! Do you think it was better for her to have that over grown hoof since you had to take so much off?
