Can’t wait to finish mine. It’s going to be a monster though it’s 12 feet in the floor length and 17.5 overall. I’ve almost finished the wood structure. I’ll be finishing the roof and bed area as well as getting the tin on over the course of the next week. The issues I had with truck campers from manufacturer’s are lack of side door units, a lot less storage space than they could have especially when it comes to excessive windows, and dry bath units are very rare without slides. I really like side door units as they offer a really nice space on the opposite side and work much better with an awning along the length of the camper so the entrance can be underneath it. These are all being corrected in the unit I’m currently building. Have you looked into custom decals? I’m really looking forward to that when I’ve finished everything else.
@@robertcox2335 that’s what I’ve got (2012 f250 6.2 gas) but I might have to upgrade to a one ton I’ll have to finish it and get it weighed. If it was a diesel f250 I’d have no chance of having enough payload. It’s got a payload of 3200lbs and I’ve seen srw diesel 3500s with as little as 2800lbs of payload absolutely pathetic. I work at an rv dealership as one of the techs and we had a 3500 dually diesel that had a 9.5-10 foot arctic fox with one slide that weighed 3700lbs which is crazy. It’s right around the same weight as an average 18 foot trailer and the dually had a capacity of only 4000lbs so with just the driver and some gear it would be at the limit already.
@@mrdorjjav it’s actually not terrible I get right around 600kms a tank without it and around 500 with a previous 11 foot camper on it. I live in Alberta and the gas mileage is actually easily worse in the winter I get around 450 a tank during that. Ultimately though I think the worse gas mileage compared to a diesel is still well worth having a vehicle with about an extra 1000 pounds of payload and being a fraction of the cost to maintain and repair. My father’s 2012 Chevrolet diesel had the head gasket go out on it at 230000kms and it was $1000 in parts $8000 for labor as the cab and whole front end needs to come off. If you’re towing heavy trailers all the time for work I think a diesel could certainly be worth getting otherwise I’d personally never go that route.
Wow this is spectacular , I was in prison for marijuana for 4 years , hard times has put me living in my car for 2 years , I’ve recently bought a truck . I need one of these ! How much would it be for you to build one for me ! Sir ?
You can get used slide in truck camper cheaper than you might think, depending on the condition. I saw a few today from the 90s that were decent but needed some TLC for 1500-2000, can't build one for that
Amazing build, I’d be very proud of that work. Any advice or things you would do differently if done again would be appreciated. I have a 1-ton Chevy dually with an 8’ bed and I’m starting next weekend when some specialty tools get here.
Dude, this is so awesome I would have done a window ac unit hanging off one side because I'm a cheap sob 🤣🤣🤣 just wondering though did you personally ever consider doing steel framing because it's lighter?? Or would the curves you want to do not work??
@@robertcox2335 how much was your total cost on the build? I love what you did.. it would be awesome in my tundra. Only thing I would add would be the power jacks.
@@divineavengers some people have built smaller campers entirely out of xps foam. I thing I would want 1/8 ply on the front for impact resistance and some framing with 1x2s instead of 1x4s. If the top and lower corners were angled and interior walls were glued in it would add structural strength without framing. I’m still thinking about it but not reddy to start another one I may build a model to work out the details
@@robertcox2335 thanks so much for the info you have inspired me to build one for my 2018 Ran 1/2 ton, all ears if you have any tips or tricks for new builders, enjoy your camper! :)
Cuts my gas mileage from 17 to 12 and I can feel wind buffeting when following an 18 wheeler but overall it’s not bad. We have probably driven about 2000 miles so far. I had to re-aim my headlights to not blind oncoming traffic
I glued bed sheets to the exterior then 2 or 3 coats of pink house paint for waterproofing. The pink paint was a miss-tint from lowes so it was very cheap
Nice… but it’s gotta weigh a lot.
On a “baby bed” none the less 😂 well done! Love my crew cab really miss 6.5 and 8’ beds
You were probably asked this already, but about how much $$ was the total cost in everything? If you don’t mind me asking.
all that on a 150...im truly impressed! well done :)
ive been considering building my own as well
Please continue to upload

This is awesome! Any sag or issues with the back overhang & side entry door?

If I had a 3/4 ton truck with a 8 foot bed that’s what I would build also

Thats pretty huge, what do you think of mpg increase on gas vehicles?

What is the siding material?
Doesn't even look like a build, It looks like it came out of a factory, Very impressive love it
Thanks

All I can say about this build is WOW!!!!! Absolutely amazing and professionally done!!!!
Is that 1/4" ply on the nose? I didn't think it would bend that much!
1/8”
Very nice wood working. That's a lot of planning and fitting.
Hello. What is the dry weight of your camper ??
About 1100 pounds
@robertcox2335 that's damned impressive.

Well done .... Genius!!
Thanks
What kind of mpg you get out of haulin that thing?
12 mpg at 65. 10.7 at 75
Well done sir. I restore vintage campers but are looking to one off a slide in.
What did you use to waterproof the walls and the roof?
Great job.
Great build !! You earned a sub from me getting you very close to that 1,000 mark !!! Going yo go back and watch your longer build videos.
Thanks for checking it out

Great series
most excellent build, did you keep track of approximate cost and final approximate weight?
Around 2k, 1100 pounds
@@robertcox2335 so you would use less wood if you made another one where wood you trim the fat?

How many hours did it take to build, with making the plan, getting materials and doing the labor part?
6 months on and off. Made up the plan as I went along probably 20 trips to the store.
Very nice.....I noticed something mounted on the front of the truck...is that your generator?
Yes the generator is on a front receiver hitch
How does it go down the road at 70

I got doors and windows from a junk camper
Super nice design!
Thanks
@@robertcox2335 what did you cover outside with? And roof?
Nice build. What did you skin thr sides and back with? It looked like 1/2" material in one photo?
Did you fiberglass the outside?
EPS insulation glued on with great stuff covered with bed sheets and house paint
How about weight sir
How much weight does the cabover part hold?
Two people, queen size mattress and luggage no problem
What’s the pink paper/wrap you used on the outside before painting?
I glued bed sheets to the exterior then 2 or 3 coats of pink house paint for waterproofing. The pink paint was a miss-tint from lowes so it was very cheap
