Dave, it baffles me that a guy in his garage can make a nice full-featured camper that weighs 650lbs, and tenured camper companies can't make a basic camper that weighs less than 1500. Very well done!
I bought a Travelite for my short box, 1180Lbs, under my payload (no bathroom, portapotti in cupboard plus lowest weight model) Have a set-up to shower inside. Preferred this layout! Campers seem to cost more than trailers! Rides well! I keep everything light and minimal and I don't fill the water tank when traveling (I pack 4 gallons, depending on where I'm going). I have Dometic air conditioner (used once) would like to change it out to a fan, never used the hot water tank (I boil water), never used the outside shower or microwave (took it out). Heater works great and the 3 way fridge. I usually camp without amenities, usually hunting or fishing. I have portable (fold up) solar and a power station. I usually cook outside, but the inside 2 burner propane is handy at times. It seems well enough insulated. Hated the netting on cupboards, added doors. Somethings are a waste if you don't use them! This guys homebuilt in nice and half the weight!
Ya have that right Jon! If I was younger?? Yes! I would attempt to doing that! At 70, both my knees replaced, a Stroke; I’m afraid I’m out of commission now.. You’ve done great work my man!
@@Here_is_WaldoI absolutely believe it. The main structural component of this build is XPS foam. A 2" thick 4'x8' XPS board weighs 7.5 lbs and has an insulation rating of R-10. XPS is very strong in regards to compressive forces but weak with twist and shear. He mitigates that here by making a composite panel/sandwich with 1/4" wood panels on the outside of the foam. I would guess this build is just as strong as any commercially available build. I love this design!
@@irishcanuck9489I converted a Ford Transit cargo van into a camper van. What I learned is that I just don’t need much to be comfortable. A comfortable platform bed with mattress, a way to stay cool in the summer (Thinsulate insulation, MaxxAir fan, window vents, usb fans, battery operated fan, 12v fans) and a way to stay warm in the winter (quality sleeping quilts and heater). A comfortable swivel seat, lagun mount table, a fridge, lighting, and built in storage to round it out.
Mr. Endgame; not only is your camper a modern day work of technical art; but your thought process, presentation and craftsmanship are so beautifully organized and executed. Well done!
Omg, so sweet. I wish I could have a camper like that, I have a short bed Chevy 5ft 8 inch bed. I’m disabled, no tools etc. trying to not live in my truck. If your situation hasn’t changed since the posting, a couple things: you have a truck; worse case scenario, you’re not homeless, just houseless. Next, you need to check out both these on RUclips and whatever social media platforms they are on: starting with HOWA (House on wheels Alliance), and Bob Wells. You can find many resources needed to help you build out your truck to a truck camper. The more you research, the more knowledge & information you will garner, not to mention a great community. I’m in the same situation - except I had to sell my 12 acres & cannot squat on what was once home. The plan was always to head west- just too expensive out east. A solo widow, it’s been just me & a couple furbabies for a while & my mechanical skills are slim & none! I must first make a trip to get my 22-year old rig from NC to FL to inter my brother’s cremains. Afterward, it’s westward bound on a wing and a prayer. But it’s past time to meet likeminded people - to get to where all these wonderful, smart people & resources are. The winter weather has set my timeline back, but mid Jan. I must break away from this property- emotionally & physically (and new property/homeowner has no more use of any security services I provided during restoration & needs me to go). Change is always scary, but I think this is one case where one door closes and a huge, new one will open. We have to have hope; so many times there is no option but hope. Take a deep breath and plow through it. You’ll be fine, my friend.
Very cool. Lots of people building campers from utility trailers, a lot of the same ideas used here can be used on those of course. The commercially available campers and travel trailers are so expensive and poorly made unless you go nuts and get an Airstream. In contrast. this camper is a work of passion and well made. As a carpenter with over 27 years experience in residential building, I must say, I am really impressed at your camper build ..... the finish product looks AWESOME, and to have it weigh in at around 650lbs (dry) is remarkable, to say the least !! Could I ask how you made the exterior panel connect (at the joints), strong enough to withstand the tristing, Torquing that happens when off-roading ... ??? Thank you. Means a lot coming from someone of such tenure. In short, I build it like furniture. I used traditional joinery in some places and everything is glued too - not solely held together with mechanical fasteners.
Hell of a build. Great work and a perfect, minimalistic style camper with all the amenities needed. The big companies could learn a thing or two from your build. Thanks for sharing.

There are so many good aspects to this camper, especially the 6 ft 5 sideways sleeping orientation. But you definitely need to include a portable grey tank and maybe just a longer hose. Grey water attracts animals and bugs, not to mention that some camping areas frown upon dumping grey water (but in your case, unless they inspect the inside how will they know?) Virtually any type of plastic water container could serve as your grey tank. I also like the air conditioner! Very practical.
Congratulations! I love how it turned out! I have 2 questions if you don't mind... 1. How do you bond the plywood to the XPS foam? 2. What brand/type paint do you use on the outside and how is this holding up over time? Any reason why you are not going with RV siding over plywood on the outside?
Very well thought out! I like the layout too. I might own another cabover someday. Might even build one with an aluminum frame, if I do. I'm a metal fabricator by trade. Tops off to you for a nice build!
Just like what I've been looking for for stealth camping and overlanding on weekends. Hope you'll gonna start accepting reservations soon I would love to own one!!!
Not any winter camping; however, the guy I sold it to lives in the Sierras year round and has mentioned a few times how warm it is. So it seems to do well.
Nice build ! You have more counter space than my 23 foot class c I agree with using a power bank. I have a Runhood whick uses hot swappable batteries so my wife can be watching TV while the power bank is still collecting proton and my rig is in the shade not needing AC yet
Nice TC, I own a travelite FB truck camper & I Love it, I like the fact that you designed & built your own according to your likes, Id Like to do that to but luckily my TL FB is a out perfect & I could use some solar & I'm designing a table I can fold down to use while I'm sitting in my bed, it fits inside my 8ft. Ram dually & the tailgate shuts with 4 inches to spare, so like yours, it's nice to have the extra security of a usable tailgate, but you did a great job & I'm sure it's fun to complete that project & go camp out!
I love the Walnut countertop too. My cousin has a band-sawmill, if I get some walnut, I’ll have him cut some. Have you included descriptions of the fabric you use in any of your videos? Thanks again Dave.

Congratulations! I love how it turned out! I have 2 questions if you don't mind... 1. How do you bond the plywood to the XPS foam? 2. What brand/type paint do you use on the outside and how is this holding up over time? Any reason why you are not going with RV siding over plywood on the outside?
Awesome build
Very well thought out! I like the layout too. I might own another cabover someday. Might even build one with an aluminum frame, if I do. I'm a metal fabricator by trade. Tops off to you for a nice build!
Excellent build! Thanks!
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Extremely nice work
I love that you build them yourself and create a better product than big industry.
Thanks Aaron
Just like what I've been looking for for stealth camping and overlanding on weekends. Hope you'll gonna start accepting reservations soon I would love to own one!!!
Amazing work! Well done. Thank you for sharing
Awesome Build, obviously you do a lot of desert camping. I have tested it in the winter time cold weather yet? Great Video Thank You 🙏
Not any winter camping; however, the guy I sold it to lives in the Sierras year round and has mentioned a few times how warm it is. So it seems to do well.
Brother. Absolutely beautiful. !
And very well thought out.
Thanks for sharing ❤
Super cool build! Wayyy better insulation than my Bigfoot. What happens though, when you're inside and someone closes the tailgate?
Nice build !
You have more counter space than my 23 foot class c
I agree with using a power bank. I have a Runhood whick uses hot swappable batteries so my wife can be watching TV while the power bank is still collecting proton and my rig is in the shade not needing AC yet
Very nice.....
Awesome build. Thanks for sharing the details.
Great job Dave! All your builds are unique
really well done !GREAT ! perfect for a baja drive and explore
Great build. Thanks for the video.
Love your camper! Thanks for sharing!
Very nice build sir !!
The build quality and design are superb.
Add to that your great sense of aesthetics and you have a very sweet little camper.
Happy Camping!
NICE BUILD
I am looking at building something like this for my half ton this looks amazing and gave me a lot of ideas. Thank you for sharing this.
I love the Walnut countertop too. My cousin has a band-sawmill, if I get some walnut, I’ll have him cut some. Have you included descriptions of the fabric you use in any of your videos? Thanks again Dave.
