This post was just one example of how a social media video without explanation or research to back it up can lead to confusion about nutrition and health. #misinformation_buster
The purpose of this video is to clarify if oats are objectively bad for you and how to better receive and interpret all of the nutrition misinformation out there that makes health and wellness more confusing than it needs to be. I hope this helps give you some critical thinking skills around food that we as Registered Dietitians use to help our clients.

In short, almost no foods (with the exception of pure junk food) can objectively be determined good or bad for all people. Everyone's bodies and health status are different and what is good for one person can be harmful to another. You must inform yourself of the research and learn your own body to know what truly is good and healthy for YOU.
Oats may help lower cholesterol, improve heart health, provide satiation and healthy carbohydrates for energy, have vitamins, minerals and fiber, and are an excellent healthy option for most people. Yes, they MIGHT make you feel bloated if you're sensitive to fiber and/or if you eat non-certified gluten-free oats and are sensitive to gluten or grains, but that's not everyone.
If you have these sensitives then it is possible that oats (or any grain) could lead to inflammation, but I haven't seen any research that oats are known in and of themselves to cause inflammation.
Generally, current research shows that oats are a healthy option for the majority of people. The video I'm referring to had no evidence to back it up. If you have concerns, consult with your doctor, naturopath, or dietitian to determine what's right for you.
I actually can't eat oats! They DO make me bloat! But, that's just me. I can eat them one day without a problem, but 2nd day will cause the bloat. We are all different, and nutrition isn't a one size fits all. Great video, thank you. Kind regards, Lee 🙂

I have next day diarrhea after any oats even after small amounts
this is amazing!!! I googled my name to find something on you tube and thought, ME! Jen smiley lol. I am not for everyone. There are many ways to the mountain top! I tell people to listen who they resonate with :) No claims, just trials and errors. Oats have TONS of pesticides and omega 6's (that is inflammatory bc we eat toooo much!)
I don't know your reasoning for saying oats are bad, but as I'm sure you know, the biggest issue with oats is that they contain lectins, which can cause major digestive issues in many people. Then again, there are people whom oats don't affect. Of course if the oats are certified organic, they won't have pesticides. Also, there are not enough omega 6 fats in oats to cause an issue, since oats are mostly carbs and have very little fat.

What about uncooked oats in bars/slices?
The video applies to oats in general. But you might have a harder time digesting uncooked oats.
Oats contain lectins, which can be a digestive nightmare for many people. But not everyone is sensitive to oats.
Many people are sensitive, I agree with that.
