It's such a calm watch, like a tv show, but 2 times better. First It's doesnt pressure you and explain everything in easy everyday language. Second you get a needed info about prepare and paint a car. Thank you guys !
Kevin Ive sat here power watching you vids. I have probably made and learned from every mistake you show precaution from so I can truly appreciate the amount of thought you guys have put into this series. I have used cheap guns and expensive guns and expensive ones and for the most part by eye and experience been able to get great results weather luck or skill I couldnt tell you. What I can tell you is your making better painters and finishers and thats something you can feel good about. So thank you Thank you so much
I've read a lot of books on paint that cover the high points but never go into this much detail. Great video, I appreciate all the tips and details like vacuuming the panels and spraying clear on the masking paper first.
this is the best video you guys have made so far... im about to spray my 70 chevelle and because of your videos im getting the spray polyester and black 2k urethane surfacer... and most likely that spray gun... from eastwood... nice video
+Chris Craft Awesome. Glad we could help. The Eastwood Concours Pro 2 Gun Set was used to spray just about everything on the Camaro - from primer to base and clear.
This is the best video in you tube on how to paint a car. Its loaded with awesome information, thanks for sharing and trying to help out the guys out here trying to do it our self. 👍👍

+Eastwood Company There are several components to doing a pro job. One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Magic Painter Method (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most helpful course that I've seen. Check out this amazing website.
Does the clearcoat call for 4:1:1 mixing ratio for the reducer being added or is that just the way you mix when it only calls for 4 to 1 for clear and activator
Kevin, I love all the video's and Zed Sled is looking awsome!! Got out of Bodywork and paint 35 years ago and now the Kids are gone and you and Eastwood are helping me get back into the game now restoring my truck and I cant say enough.Hope you visit one of the shows in Michigan!!!!
Excellant job of promoting Eastwood products and basic painting techniques. Give your painter another twenty years of experience and he will really become a pro. Free tip, throw the gun flow meter away and test spray pressure against your forearm. Give your clear more time to dry between coats and it will dry down a lot smoother, eliminating a lot of corrective after-sanding. I have painted for 45 years and I am still learning. Best regards.
Great video. So much amazing tips. I have been spraying rustoleum paint with cheap hvlp and I am always learning so appreciate the content and knowledge. Thank you!
I didn't expect to see my favorite Auzzie here in the comment section. Hello Gunny, it nice to see you support other channels. Love your videos and have learned a ton from you. I recommend your videos to anyone wanting to learn how to spray great off-the-gun finishes.
Great vid. As someone who is getting into the restoration game, this was really useful to me from a number of perspectives. Looking forward to more videos like this.
WOW, this was a first class video. Thanks for the Home Schooling job. Now, I just need a spray booth. And learn what products and spray guns to use. Maaco, would NEVER, Do this..
Nice video. I didn’t get to finish the collision and refinishing program I was going to. Want to get back into this. Enjoy working on cars and with my hands. Learning what I can from your vids. Thanks
Did you learn how toxic and extremely deadly this crap is? Are you alive still? God bless the men who do this at home without any warning from EASTWOOD.
As a disabled vet on a fixed income, I wish I could afford the money to invest in stuff like this and get my truck back in order. 2003 Silverado with rockers rusted out and a wheel well showing rust, not to mention the undercarrage. The rest of the paint job.. the clearcoat is sperating on the roof and bed rails. Hoping one day I will be able to peice meal all the stuff I need to do it myself as there is no way otherwise. Even concidered Raptor lining the whole truck to save some money on it.
These videos are spectacular! So helpful! I was under the impression the Eastwood PRE was the last thing required to clean the car before laying down primer? I didn't know that alcohol was also required.
Many people do use PRE as the final step. The a tack rag before spraying. Make sure to use the specialty towels and only wipe in a single direction and repeat until no dirt is on the towel.
Great video with good tips. I really like what you did to the side vent. They have always looked tacky to me and don't fit right after a few years. By the way Kevin pigs don't sweat but pig iron does when it cools enough to move after smelting. As it cools the air around it reaches dew point causing moisture droplets to form on the pig iron. You always wanted to know this right?
Hey Kevin, really enjoying your painting tips and tricks. Question; could you use a vacuum with a brush to get the dust off opposed just the plastics piece?
Hello Kevin im the process of restoring a 65 Mustang, , i want to paint it black laquer without the clear coat , also i heard some negative things about euthanize primers not been the good. but the way you explain it seems to be a great idea with black primer.
hugo salazar spray with grey lacquer primer and black lacquer paint. Only problem with lacquer is it won't last long if you don't put lacquer clear on it. Lacquer period doesn't last long. I don't recommend it
Dear Sir...I been watching you work and I was wondering I was shown to Start from the center of the roof line working outward that way I can't accidentally come into direct contact with any surface I've just painted IE reaching over my work painting inward ..It made good sense to me as I've seen guy's with less developed arm's make contact because a full gun can play hell on your arm on those long reach paint surfaces the gun can feel like it weights a ton . So I start at the roof center line working in toward's the drip rail that way I'm not hanging out over freshly laid paint . But I guess which ever get's it covered work's right !
This question is more directed at Eastwood, but if ya got an answer feel free to answer. I noticed some of those cans say for professional use only, what is professional use? And do you make colors and clears that a "diesel tech" not "body tech" can buy and use?
Confused.. So I noticed you used Epoxy Primer/sealer before you put down base. Did you also use Epoxy after your bare metal filler work? Then 2k/block/ finish coat 2k/back to epoxy sealer?
A couple things. What is a "holiday"? And did anyone else notice when Kevin put the filler on the inside of the fender it was different colors indicating it hadn't been mixed enough??
For the best results, follow the full Epoxy Primer application instructions. "Eastwood Epoxy Primer should be applied in medium wet coats, with a 30-minute flash period between each (at 70 °F). Typically, one to two coats is enough to achieve the desired 1 mil. dry film thickness, though more material may be applied as needed. Additional build requires longer flash periods between coats. Epoxy primer may be topcoated after approximately 30 minutes (wait 45-60 minutes after applying more than two coats), or up to about five days. After five days, primer MUST be scuff sanded prior to topcoat application. May be sanded (wet) the day after application. Wait two to three days before sanding dry." Hope that helps.
Great video, can you add reducer to the clear so you dont get the much orange peal, or after is color sanded and buff it would look like a car show Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
unless you have imperfections, drops, sags or fish eyes in your base color, you absolutely do not ever sand the color coat. Go 3-5 coats of clear and sand at 3rd coat, and then cut and buff 5th coat
How do I get ahold of Kevin ? I'm setting up a 6 bay collision repair facility and I'd like info on having him come down, help set it up from top to bottom. Info would be great, possibly use all Eastwood products ?

+Eastwood Company That Kevin Tetz is a great teacher, I have followed along with the ZED Sled project as I have been restoring a 1970 Rebel Machine. Considering how many wipes you gave it it still looks like it picked up lots of crap..i stopped using tack rags i found it left the body sticky so i use soft cloth and air and final wipe with gloved hand and air..much better results.
Awesome video series. I've been watching / rewatching these numerous times in preparation for doing body work / painting my project. Regarding the high flow air fittings, what are you guys using? Seen numerous forum posts / articles suggesting 1/2" hose is worthwhile for hvlp guns but haven't found a consensus on what air fittings to use.
Ok, I don't get it, on one of your videos you recommend 1.4mm to 1.5mm tip for base coats and 1.2mm to 1.3mm tip for clear coat, but here you are spraying everything with 1.3 fluid tip. Am I missing something?
Hello Kevin, thank you for the Video, very informative. I have one problem here. I am spraying metallic lime gold (off the mustangs) on my aussie built Falcon. The body has been block sanded and primed within an inch of her life, straight is an understatement. The problem is, on the final cut with 800 grit, i have very fine scratches on concave areas where the side of the paper touches without pressure. What can i do to eliminate these? I was thinking about a very light scuff with a flexible pad without creating low spots. Would this be the go? I know it is a hard one to answer as you have not seen my work or know my capabilities. Cheers Frank from Australia....
I noticed you taped off the inside of the car and the under body. What if you have a vehicle that came from the factory with the inside, outside, and under body all color matched?
