- What's up NUB NATION!! This is HOW TO CONVERT YOUR CARGO VAN into an OFF THE GRID CAMPER in 10 DAYS !! This is my 2017 Dodge Semi Promaster being used for the conversion. Thanks to Bear Mattress for helping out the dream & the biggest thanks in history to Rob George for making it all happen. Van Life has begun, the journey has begun, next up the most epic road trip cross country drive in history!! This would be my success I would be so proud when I got my van set up
I put a hammock in mine. I mounted 4 mtn. climbing anchors in each corner, super solid. Not for everyone but saves a ton of space and weight. Another plus is its self leveling! I can sleep on a hill, just raise or lower one side!

This is beautiful the attention to the finishing details is great. I watch tons of these and so often the plywood edges are left raw, the seams aren’t finished. Which is understandable for people with limited skills and budget- that would be me. Lol
The other thing I really like is the paneling on the ceiling and walls. It seems most people use wood which I would think would add a lot of weight leading to less MPG. The seam finishing is beautiful.
So what about food and cooking?

yeah, van conversions were big in the early 70s...with airbrushed murals on the sides. I always wanted one, but was only 8 yo. Guess I'm having a midlife crisis because I'm now 50 and really want one and just surf the rest of my life.

I've watched quite a few of these and I think I like this design the best. Fairly simple yet functional.
Awesome job. Just the first part of the video taught me tons. Framing it all out, insulating, how and where to put the wood strips for the floor and walls. Great work. It helps to have a Rob on hand with the tools and know how. Indispensable.

The thing is it's stealthy you can park overnight on a public street say and less chance someone will notice you, it's illegal to camp in your vehicle in many states.

its nice and its light airy inside . of course things like showering and going to the restroom and cooking would have to be addressed if you lived in it full time. but it still has tons of room for things if you wish to add or change things.
Yeah it's more for travels not full time living so it works out well!!
It always amazes me how many, like you, do construction work in bare feet! However, great job in spite of putting yourself at risk like that. 'Wish it were my campervan!
I'm following some of the steps in this video for a 2006 Ford E-150 van. One trouble I've experienced is that my Ford has a lot more curves and edges to cut around. I would strongly recommend a van that has an easier floor with squarer edges to secure the joists and plywood for less cuts. Living In Asheville, NC its hard to find a level spot to work as well. You won't necessarily need a level so measure from the floor up for bed height. Love the video and idea. Cargo vans are easy to find and cheap but make sure you buy a good one. These vans are used hard and the mechanic work can get expensive.

Put a sink and toilet at minimum. You can get a composting toilet so no sewage. Then just put a water tank under the bed and a pump under the sink in the cabinets.

I used steel mesh security door as my bed support, it allows the air to circulate under the mattress and prevents mould.

Ben, just my 2cents. First I'm an architect, Second I surf(i'm a Hawaii surfer). The construction was detailed and solid. My only comment, way too much wood, the size of the studs, runners, frame and plywood thickness way over sized. The floor you could do 1/2", interior siding, could go to 3/8". This is not a house, this is a engineered truck, it wants to minimize weight, it correlates to physics F=ma.....all good, great productions, stay stoked, aloha no'

That's a very nice simple way that you put the ceilings in the walls together seeing it like that makes it very easy for a lot of people who aren't handy it would just be the cuts that could be a problem if you don't have major tools overall love your look at your van

Beautiful! Everything I would want and none of the stuff (toilets/kitchens, etc) that's unnecessary. I've done four 1-month road trips and one 3-month trip in my old Dodge Durango but this would be taking it to the next level.

Well done van interior, just like a home. You need some holes in the plywood under the bed for air circulation so mold doesn't happen in your mattress. You need a Maxxair fan in your ceiling. You need solar for electricity or a GoalZero. Where is your water supply? What do you cook on? What do you use for heat, when needed? Can't wait to see you finish the lovely van. Have fun!!

This is some kind of mystical coincidence for me. I, as little as two weeks ago, decided to sell my house in Northeast Georgia and buy a fleet sales panel van and convert it to a camper van, take a year off owning a home, and see the country especially the West. I’m glad I didn’t jump right in to buying another house. This way I can take the pressure off in finding the location (in New Mexico) of land and house. Maybe we’ll run into each other along the way and compare notes.
What about a cb radio. Breaker one, nine, gravy rollin down the road, for the dream, come on back. haha, the floor finish looks awesome, yew!
