As a lifelong hypochondriac, I can relate to Drew so hard in this episode. One thing that has helped me a lot is reminding myself that there are lots of options between nothing is wrong and that I'm dying. For example, my brain is always telling me that a pain in my finger is either nothing or that I'm dying. But there are other options -- you could be having a muscle spasm, a pulled muscle, you jabbed it and forgot, etc. Those aren't nothing, but you aren't dying. That has helped me a lot.
That part made me feel so validated because I've had the same exact experience because of the pandemic. And that's one of the things I've been trying to tell myself is what you said about there being a lot between being okay and dying lol
This is a very good way to take all of that anxiety and calm it down. I’m also a hypochondriac and it’s exhausting but thinking of the in between is such a good strategy. Thank you!

i'm almost 28 and can't drive due to a panic disorder n i find it so comforting when other ppl my age don't know how to drive/are just getting their license because a lot of ppl make fun of me for it :') proud of you jarvis, i live in a pretty big city as it is and can't even imagine doing that in LA. hopefully one day i will get to a healthier mental state and be able to achieve the same 🤞🏻

Ya I can't drive and im 27 cuz I moved to Philly when I was 19 so I only had a permit at that point and knew I was gonna be walking everywhere and I still haven't gotten a license but people tell me I should know how to drive just in case 🥴

that ending where you guys said that "if you could go back and do everything in your life perfectly, life would be boring and you would be a shallow person", I felt comfort in my soul. Also the part where Drew said "so many things can go wrong, so it makes no sense to beat yourself up over every mistake you make" was another favorite line. This episode is intellectual gold!
as a 21 year old who's struggled with mental illnesses my whole life, it's comforting to see people older than me talk about their experiences. sometimes i get angry with myself that i haven't "grown out of it"

im sooo glad to see drew here and happy, ive been worried (privately, i never posted about it lol) about how he hasn't done any collaborations with anyone in a long time, wasnt posting a lot like he said, and other yters barely mentioned him and when they did it was extremely brief, but positive. i just hoped he was okay and knowing now that he was BETTER than okay makes me so happy!!

Dont normally comment but i felt so deeply about this episode! Ive struggled with agoraphobia since i was a young teen and just recently i got my anxiety medication doubled and im suddenly able to rationalize with myself through the anxiety. "Youve felt like this before about the exact same situation." "If something bad happens, just deal with it then" etc. Its done wonders for my mental health.
That, and going outside everyday 😊

we actually speak like 5-6 languages in switzerland (depending if you treat german and swiss german as two, and ofc not everyone speaks all of them)
but the country 's languages are french swissgerman, italian and rumantsch, plus german as an official written language for the dialect parts, plus english as a sort of unofficial official language in the urban parts

I may never get over Drew and Amanda being in my city and not running into them. Also interesting hearing him talk about it as walkable and bikes everywhere, I don't even think about that anymore
My fiancé is Italian and when he first came to visit me in the US (one of the larger cities in Idaho), not being able to walk everywhere was very isolating for him, it takes away so much of your personal sense of freedom. His drivers license has been expired for 10 years 😂 I live in a slightly more walkable city now, but when he moves here he will definitely have to relearn to drive.
Living in a walkable city honestly improves your life SO MUCH. He must really love you if he's willing to give that up
@@misteryA555 It's true. We love each other very much. I know we would both prefer to live somewhere else to have a better quality of life, but unfortunately life in Italy is hard for young people with its unstable economy. Either way we decided, one of us would have to make a sacrifice.

It's so comforting to hear people like Jarvis and Drew talk about their anxiety. If they feel like I feel and still are accomplishing these things and projecting the great parts of their personalities and humor so well, maybe I'm pulling it off better than I think. I especially relate to the hypochondria/germaphobia being triggered by the pandemic, when I was younger, I never would have thought about picking up a penny off the ground now I couldn't unless I know I'd be able to sanitize or wash my hands in the next 5 mins. I never mentally tallied how many things I've touched before now; it takes up so much of my mental energy and it's not easy to shut off. But yeah, it's nice to hear people you admire describe something almost exactly what you struggle with and admit that they also struggle and cope with it in similar ways.
Just was calming myself down from a panic attack when I opened up youtube and immediately smiled when I saw Drew was on the show today. He's one of my favorite people and I'm so glad to hear he's doing well. Also the last video you guys did together is one of my favorites. Thank you guys for being you. I hope you realize that you make a big difference just my being yourselves and sharing it. Sorry for the mushy stuff 😅. You guys are rad.

The convo at 45 about walkable cities is soooo real I live in a famously “bike friendly” “small town feel” city and have known at least two people who have seen pedestrians or skaters get absolutely wrecked by cars IN THE CROSSWALK
I have OCD and have been dealing with it for as long as I can remember and I relate so much to what they were talking about. A big thing with it is I know the fear doesn’t make since or is unlikely but that fear outweighs the logic. Thank goodness for therapy and I’ll glad they are learning coping skills too because it sucks. I still do a bit but in middle school I had really bad hypochondria.
Same. My biggest coping skill that’s helped is being able to say “so what?” Or “and???” To all my thoughts. Not in a dismissive way but like. Literally yeah “what if?” blah blah blah. It doesn’t work for everyone but it at least help me feel more in control of my cognition
I am so happy to finally see someone mention “Pretend that You Love Me” because it is my favorite indie film experience I’ve ever had. It hits so hard and it’s fantastic hearing Drew talk about it, it makes me so excited knowing that even more people will hopefully watch it now.
Glad more people are open about therapy and feelings in general. I have been through a lot and therapy has really helped get me through those moments. I have learned how to approach those feelings in a rational way to avoid letting them consume me. Slipped a bit during the pandemic but have gotten control back. Cheers guys. Excellent work

I think that sidewalks should just be larger so that both bikes and pedestrians (and any skateboarders and whatnot) can use the sidewalks but have enough room to not worry about hitting each other. And just have a rule where all bikers should have the little bell that they can ring to let pedestrians know that they are coming through, and they should move to the side

On the topic of guitar hero for piano, there was an old program, Synthesia, which I used to use growing up. I think it's still around but I'm not sure how things have changed, but it did help me a bit in practicing piano. Visualizing the notes on the keyboard and the length of them actually helped me connect it to the sheet music I was also learning to read at the time.
The basketball talk is so fun because I have never watched basketball in my entire life, I can name maybe 2 players because of clothing brands collabs but it’s so interesting to listen to people talk about their interests

My first real kiss was also the time I lost virginity. And there was absolutely no emotion in both.
We were at the beach hanging out and every single person BUT me and a girl went off to hook up. So we were sitting there like "what now?" and she said something like "should we like, do the same or something?" I was like "okay, I guess" and so we did it.
It wasn't that bad, no one hated it but it felt more like a necessity than something emotional or passionate. I remember we literally shook hands after and went back to the spot to wait for others 😂😂

This year, I suddenly started experiencing extreme health anxiety because several things have been happening one after the other. I was going through a really bad episode yesterday and today and have been having trouble breathing and lowkey freaking out because of it. Listening to you guys talk already distracted me and calmed me down a bit, and then hearing Drew talk about the exact thing I'm going through couldn't have come at a better time. So thanks for talking about anxiety, overthinking, and hypochondria; it helped me breathe easier, and your experiences and advice were really reassuring and exactly what I needed to hear :)
