    Thanks for the shout-out Chuck. Great video for secondary weapons.

    Great video buddy. I too have found out through trial and error that the mace is best used as a backup. Falchions are hard to draw and axes can fall out.

    Fantastic video. Learning to use the mace had been such an adventure, and for grappling it is by far my favorite.

    Great Video! I just found this out recently, but the 'medieval loop buckle' isn't actually historical. It is just a thing because of RenFaires. Most historic belts had standard(ish) buckles.

      That makes total sense. The loop just isn't secure for me and having a buckle actually works. I have another belt that has just the loop I wear sometimes for duels or fights where I don't need a back up weapon. Looks cool but not really practical

    I always carry a back up mace incase I lose my primary mace. Then back at the camp site I have a 3rd mace to back up my back up.

      I've really come to like the mace as my backup

      @woodchuckknight7820 they are convenient. Sometimes at practice after a takedown I'll ditch my primary just to practice pulling my secondary

    The thing I've found my mace useful for outside of grappling is hand snipes, gaps (what doesn't work there 🤷‍♂️), calve and shin shots. Brett Skinner made me a haft for one of them and fixing the durability issue maces have made it a much more effective tool just gotta pick the correct spots. But still hand axe and falchion are going to hit harder.

      I agree. I like the mace as a backup but prefer a hand axe almost all the time as my primary

      @woodchuckknight7820 I love those too. I have a nice one I haven't gotten to use much yet because of the hammerback. Also love polearm too. But always mace as a backup

    Hello, Chuck! I'm thinking of getting into the sport and am really enjoying your videos. What about battlefield pick-ups?You mentioned that you've lost your weapon a few times, can anyone pick it up and start wielding it? Or is it like fighters, and once it's on the ground it's gone?

    • @woodchuckknight7820
      @woodchuckknight7820  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's a great question. In most rule sets you can't pick up a weapon off the ground simply because you be making contact with the ground which we consider you out. Backup weapons ether needs to be handed in by a teammate at a designated location on the list. They may also be left on the table top of the list if that is the format of your fighting arena. You can take a weapon from an opponent and fight with their weapon if you want there's no rule against that though it rarely happens.

    Worth noting the ring belt is actually not medieval, its a modern invention to try and look medieval

    Can you use a longsword as a backup?

    • @woodchuckknight7820
      @woodchuckknight7820  10 месяцев назад

      There is no rule against it but it would be very impractical. Longswords are no good in a melee and having such a long ungainly backup weapon would get in the way during grapples as well.
