Thank you for the safety video about technique... Dang thank goodness, I only got my back twisted in a full nelson. To be honest the world needs more caution, as well as sports. Specifically awesome Steel Fighting sport, I can dream can't I?
If a person with a plate chest on the back is pulled backwards with a two-handed weapon or is choked, the spine may be subjected to a point load at one point, the neck protector/rim of the plate chest, which could actually cause the vertebrae to dislocate (neck fracture). To me it seem that isn't really taken into account in the usual armored wrestling actions at the side fences. I guess that's the case until these days because nothing really serious has happened yet. But I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before the first wheelchair user will appear in the outcome of this potential issue. --- Aside from the fact that this armored wrestling isn't very "pretty" to look at, I personally think that's the only really potentially dangerous aspect of Buhurt, especially if while the neck is bent backwards, a third person jumps into such wrestling situation. That might do the worst outcome take place within a single second. Accordingly, I hope that in the future this helmet / neck bending will simply be prohibited by rules! But that is just my 2 cents ...
Maybe they will but I doubt It. Nobody follows their own leagues rules anyway. And they change the rules every year. Can't make up their minds between safety and historical accuracy. It's just stupid. But at the end of the day you sign a death waiver. You know the risks you're taking.
This makes me wonder how many assholes out there in the sport would try out some of those dangerous neck chokes or other harmful techniques on purpose.
This is the style of competition where you are out when you get thrown to the ground right? I’ve always wondered about this style because I watch people get hit in the back or around the neck area where in real life that would be more likely a kill. so is the point of using the weapons to tire people out so you can throw them or knock them over easier?
Anything around the base of the neck is illegal in every league as far as I'm aware. Especially in ours. If you see those shots it's usually an accident in our videos, probably a new fighter or the target moved. In other leagues it's usually intentional and they are just lazy about enforcing it. If you are good with a weapon you can make people submit through pain.

@@warpdust666 open face helms are the dumbest thing anyone can use in the sport next to titanium armor. And I'd look Craig Ivey up. Most of the other stuff will just get newbies hurt.
@@warpdust666 biggest advice I can give is get in shape first. Lift weights. Get strong. Build up muscle around your joints. Get a pell set up and do lots of strike drills. Then get armor. I wouldn't worry about getting anything fancy unless you really want to. But articulated arms and legs are good. Then a moveable chestpiece. Almost any corrazinas type that has bigger plates on the inside.
I have one of those swords. I bought it from a catalogue. It was called a shamshir. first it was cheap and unbalanced and second I don't think they were in middle ages Europe. I as a blade smith redesigned and made one with a shorter handle and longer narrower blade. It's much better now. My question is why are holding it. It looks strange for you to hold and play with it without using it
It is a 2 handed European falchion. Shamshirs are asiatic. Very very similar in appearance. And I'm holding it because it's mine, and when I fight I use it. Felt weird not to have something In my hands.
Unfortunately no, not from me. I have retired after 10 years. Best of luck to all the new guys though. I'll keep my content up, but I will not be making more in the armored combat scene.
I get following rules and being safe and all that… but isn’t the point to hurt the opponent to the point they give up or are incapacitated? Idk I think in general the rules need to allow for theoretical deaths or incapacitations so that it better reflects the reality of armored combat. I feel like buhurt devolves into wrestling more often than not. I’m not well versed in the rules, but I feel like taking repeated strikes to a bladed weapon should have some kind of penalty. Like in other combat sports when you aren’t protecting yourself. I feel like taking one or two solid or weak head strikes is fine, but a ref should consider you dead if you take a hard axe strike to the dome or shoulder? Idk though if that would be too complicated and give the ref too much power. But I wish there was a way to make it more accurate to if the weapons were sharp, like how unarmored combat does it, just adjust the rules for the consideration of being able to survive a lot more. Again I’m not an expert by any means, and maybe there is a version of armored combat that has rules like this.
Yeah no lol. The rules are based off of old school tournament rules used as a method of training, morale, and preparation for war. We aren't trying to kill each other merely competing for sport. That's why the armored is thicker and heavier than traditional armor.
@@vordermark89 source? If there is historical basis that would be pretty interesting. I still think armored combat with a rule set focused on simulating a real combat situation and trying to score fatal blows would be interesting nonetheless
@@caravaneerkhed it would be impossible to control because it would have to be based off an honor system. Which is the last thing they have in this sport. More cheaters than a Florida housewives group. Look up the tournament of the rose. 14th c I believe. That's the basics of it

I have a question. What is the point of hand weapons in this sport? They feel weak and fighter that wield them are always wrestling instead of striking. Doesnt feel very medieval Idk
Due to the rules of the different leagues and the lack of skill of most fighters they have to rely on grappling because they are not good enough to strike. And Alot of people don't have the physical endurance to handle multiple fights so they just hug each other. It is sad.
@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 they may be on a different platform or name but there's a couple videos of me dropping people with a one hander. It is incredibly difficult to do. 2 hand is easy. 1 hand there is maybe 1 in 50 fighters actually capable of dropping someone with it

In general good material however I do not understand fear of osotogari XD
Armor catches alot and wrenches your joints badly on occaision. Not always for sure but I've seen it happen too many times. And we are not allowed to manipulate armor so that takes alot of moves away :(
Do you guys ever do castle raids or castle defense? My dad was in the SCA in ohio and used to travel for different battles just wondering if you guys did that too? I think at penssic?
We don't really do sca. Completely different. I've done lillies war before, but I can't speak on behalf of the other fighters.
Well done guys
Much appreciated!
it is maybe good to take the suicidal take down on big guys or skilled guys. i like the sport its a lot of cuddling xD
It's a bad idea because you never know if something will fail or your grip might slip if your suicide fails your team is left down a man
What are the rules for weapons? I'd love to make a War Hammer but I'm not sure if I can make it out of metal due to weight
Unfortunately no hammers. There are maces. But I honestly don't even know why they allow them. They were literally made to crush armor.
Please demonstrate the 1 legged attacker.
thanks for the video.
Thank you for the appreciation! We need to make more
Can't wait for episode two. Any news?
Unfortunately I have retired. So, there won't be any more from me. Craig Ivey has ALOT of good information. Anyone else, honestly I probably wouldn't listen to what they say because most people trying to post videos like this have no clue what they're doing and are more likely to get someone hurt on accident than skilfully. However, i'd be more than glad to.give advice if requested.
@@vordermark89 any link or guide for beginners?
An what would you say to an beginner about helmets? Open Face like the wolf thing or bascinet?
@@vordermark89 oh.
will there be a Ep2? ^^

I have 2 questions : do you recommend me to invest myself in this sport ? I absolutly love it but I know I will be frustrated if I find it unserious( worldwide view ). do you get money by winning tournaments or it's just the name and pride?
Mostly fame and pride. But the sport is just too new. It will grow over time.

It is sad.
@@vordermark89 oh i see. But in that case hand weapon strikes can be useful in the hands of a skilled fighter. Thanks!!
@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 they may be on a different platform or name but there's a couple videos of me dropping people with a one hander. It is incredibly difficult to do. 2 hand is easy. 1 hand there is maybe 1 in 50 fighters actually capable of dropping someone with it

Jake retired. And Sarah had a second baby 😂 Sarah may get back in but I'm not sure life is gonna permit it anytime soon.
is it against the rule to use the axe hook to pull the opponent off guard?
Depends on the league. Honestly In true snowflake cancel culture it'll hit all the sports you live until there will be nothing but pillow fighting in armor.

It's called a 2 handed falchion. But yes very similar to a scimitar. It's basically the western European version of the scimitar. They're very common in the 1500s manuscripts

Be willing to go to the same extent he is. I duelled him years ago and he willingly took a chop to bare arm to score winning point. Which by the rules we were using made perfect sense. He was willing to deal with a lot more than I and was better at his combat style than I could adjust to
