Training in the England with Team Invicta! Travelling and Training whenever I can
While visiting family in England this summer I was lucky enough to connect with the local team, Invicta. They invited me out to train for a session with them and it was great.
Whenever I can I connect with local teams if travelling and try and at least meet some of the fighters. This time I was lucky enough to get some grappling and sparring in.

@woodchuckknight7820 thank you 😊 i am about to move but when i do i will look into it!
This is awesome, thank you! I had been considering getting a weight vest to wear regularly to start conditioning for armor, glad to see it seems to be a good option!
Yeah I have been using the weight vest whenever I do striking and pell work and it a great. I don't use if for regular workouts or anything else to save joint wear and tear but for pell stuff it seems to really help
I am predominantly a HEMA Harnischfechten fighter doing "Armor as Worn" fighting conventions. That said I started training for duels in Buhurt and the timed rounds and constant pressure have helped all my games. I also do regular HEMA Longsword and sword and buckler. Pick up a sword and enjoy yourself. Critics don't count.
I Got my whole kit second hand, fits like a glove. Therefore my helmet is the ugliest wolfrib I have ever seen. Of course safety is the number one priority, but I am a sword and shield dualist. Therefor, the knightly drip, HAS to be a huge priority. With all due respect, I hate your your choice. (But I get it)
4 fighters on my team just had wolfribs made by Ivan they look amazing
Yeah I am impressed with the work for sure.
I only joined cause the helmet was kinda gifted to me after they cracked my previous helm
Well it is cool that you got a helm and joined up
I’ve had 3 helmets from Ivan now, all for different purposes and still run my wolfrib for group fights 4 years on. It’s comfortable and bomb proof.
I really love mine so far
I made the switch from nasal to Wolfrib and one thing I never hear anyone mention is the chainmail on the grill getting damaged constantly. Was it just me? Was my face just at perfect punching height? Also, the rules are arbitrary and dumb. Extra eye bars aren't ok for historical reasons, but adding the Simon strap for fighter safety is ok? Anyway, welcome to Wolfrib Nation
Oh yeah. I was constantly repairing chainmail both on the grill and the aventail on the Nasal
You can use titanium armor but god forbid you want propper protection for your face thats not historical!
Make sure you add some extra padding on the lower chin cup.
Thank you. For the suggestion. It has been comfortable so far but I will pay attention this if needed
I'm having trouble with the falchion rotating in my hand after a hit, I would need to back up and rotate it back. Sometimes I would be swinging my sword flat side, or completely turned around. I was thinking I either need to modify my gauntlet somehow to prevent it from rotating, like a stealthy hoof gauntlet, or just get good and increase my grip strength.
Is the handle oval? or truly round? I have added a small piece of wood to the front or back of some swords under the wrap/tape to help oval it out and also make sure I can feel the edge alignment. You may need to modify the guantlet possibly. Is should not rotate in a gauntlet more than it does in just a bare hand or glove.

Do it! Valhalla Sept 4th will be the next War Camp style event. It will be awesome
Great video! Warcamp was awesome
Thank you!
Would you say that cardio is more important than weight and strength? Especially in pure titanium armor when it comes to buhurt?
The real answer is you need both but if you have to pick one I think it would be weight and strength. You need to have short form explosive cardio and quick recovery. You can get that through tabata and HITT strength training to double dip. But if you are all cardio you may be able to fight forever but will struggle in the grapple. I'm talking melee of course. If you are purely a duels fighter you need lots of cardio. Pro fight you need it all.
@@woodchuckknight7820 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense... also, if you weigh like a TON, you'd think it would also be more difficult for the opponent to tackle and take you down right? 😅 but then how long can you last?
@@O.LEO.N Yup. There is definitely a balance between size and endurance. Being big gets you a decent way in the sport till you get to the higher levels and then it's about strength, endurance, technique etc.

Thank you! That is the goal of my channel, to motivate people, help them train, and hopefully get involved in this sport.
@@woodchuckknight7820 Great work! I liked the insider view of this event!
@@DigitallyTwistedOutlaws1178 Thank you very much!
It's just that... the wolfrib is the worst LOOKING helmet. This is medieval armored combat. Not ice hockey!
Well I guess I am playing hockey cause I just switched to a wolf rib myself
@@woodchuckknight7820 Cool...
My local team has told me to buy a gambeson, helmet and shoes when I can and then use their loaner gear until I'm in shape
If you are going to start anywhere with armor, Helmet makes the most sense. Every team is different. If they are comfortable knowing you are committed then start collecting armor. The point of this video is that I have seen to many people show up and start buying armor not understanding the amount of work it will take to be a competent fighter. They spend that money and then end up leaving after a couple of months.
@@woodchuckknight7820 yep!! I understand, I'm very much looking forward to it. Even if I don't stick to the sport though I'll still have a very cool piece of craftsmanship.
Icy Mike is annoying.. as an MMA guy myself, he's annoying.
I barely have money or time to travel to my clubs training place. I feel you man!
I get it. It's one of the reasons I have been so happy to see so many new teams and clubs popping up. Big events are awesome, but the heart and soul of this sport is clubs building, training and just finding fights to be a part of.
practical. perfect.

Thanks Vallas!
High level brawling.
It was a good fight
Thanks for your help over the years and good fighting
I am always glad to help!
But why do so many Buhurt fighters use these?? It's literally a steel hockey mask! 😢
It is the most effective and sport optimized helmet. If your goal is to be the best you use the best tools you can get.
@@woodchuckknight7820 Makes sense.
Have you ever seen helmet horror with a wolfrib?
Helmet horrors is a strange thing. I think some people just get it from putting on any helmet, kind of like some people feel claustrophobic in a small room and others don't. However the more restrictive the helmet the more likely that helmet horror feeling. I haven't seen anyone 'panic' in a wolfrib but new people still have to get over that feeling of having a heavy steel helmet on your head the first time
Okay, but WHERE do you get your axes from?
I have axes from multiple different makers just because I like variety and trying things. I've had a custom one made by Johnathan Chaney, Buhurt tech axes, Canadian Bohurt (who is a sponsor) and others. I've ended up with somewhat of a collection over they years.
Armchair Violence's main audience are probably under 18.
I don't know. I watched his stuff and found it interesting. Just think he had stuff to learn on this topic
At our HEMA club, we let folks participate at any level they want. We have tournament fencers, source heads and casuals, and we all fence together and get along, and we all pull each others' skill level up.
That is awesome and the way our buhurt school is run. Everything from people just getting started and getting in shape up to world champions all train together at their own pace
👍 thanks
Any idea whats the difference between Buhurt & HEMA ? For Buhurt is sparring / practice always done at full impact or do you have slower speed / controlled force for less experienced students ?
Sure. I am glad to help - Buhurt is the overal name for full steel medieval combat. Generically it applies to 3 different formats, duels (most strikes in a round for points), profight (think MMA match in armor) and buhurt/melee - team fighting. HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) generally applies to a form of martial arts that uses only historical treatise and attempt to learn, replicate and preserve this history. It can be done in full armor but more often it's with sparring gear and just a steel sword. Think closer to fencing - single hit scores the point. This is a generalization but gives a good overview. As for buhurt, it's more about the sport and we use whatever techniques we find that work. To your other question, yes we do MOST of our training at slow force, with soft kit (foam weapons and shields) and work on techniques. We do train in steel but I would say that is 20% of the time at my school. Hope this helps!
@@woodchuckknight7820 Thanks a lot for your reply ! Will look more into Burhurt videos. Your greataxe video is interesting, I havnt met anyone else that teaches greataxe
Is there a video showing how to parry with the axe ?
No. I actually haven't made a video on this but that is a great idea. I will try and put one together next week. Thanks for the great idea!
@@woodchuckknight7820 Thanks really look forward too seeing it. I am wondering if the wooden handle can parry a steel blade with minimal damage and how to maneuver with the axehead since its so top heavy
@@geminiblue6677 Yup! I got you. There are techniques for all of this that work.
Good perspective :) I'd like to dabble in buhurt, but I would want to make myself a great bascinet first haha
Thank you for the comment!
Our swords the only option in armroed combat? I'm curious if polearms are an option.
Polearms are definitely an option, as well as axes, maces. Different weapons for different positions and events
We are hoping to do some changes to food next year but we are pretty severely limited with the venue, but we will put up more signage for sure next year! (I run the vendor aspect which we added this year.) Also, that PA system has been that way for 30 years, but I will also see if anything can be adjusted.
Also, as the newest addition to the planning, working on the vendor and festival side, we have a whole new marketing strategy for next year; I am a Clemson alumnus and have a background in sports media so I am going to be hitting the local area hard, and we plan to do some monthly videos, would love to talk and see how we can work together!

I suck at fighting. There's the saying in the navy seals something about rather having a member that is high trust but isn't as good compared to a best of the best that you can't trust. So if you aren't the best of the best, you can work on things that are in your control. Listening and teamwork.

awasome ty for the perspective... would never think that 2cm of foam could completley change everything... note taken :D
Yeah it never occurred to me it could make that much of a difference either but it really just changed how everything sat on my head and the way I needed to make adjustments to look out of the ice slots. Little things can make a difference
good lesson. any adjustments to armor should be followed with a jog or something within the armor. test it out some.
Yup. I definitely should have. I don't know if I would have even noticed in this case. It took me a whole day of fights to figure it out but it's definitely a best practice. Usually I do test it out but this seemed so minor I didn't even think to check it. Lesson learned
