2001 NBA Finals Game 3, June 10, 2001 | In a game that the Lakers felt like they needed to win, Kobe was even more motivated as this was the first game of the series in which he would play in his childhood home Philadelphia. After a somewhat slow start, Kobe caught fire in the second quarter by hitting 8 straight shots while silencing the hostile Philly crowd. Kobe didn't shoot well in the second half but came up with a huge leaner late in the game moments after Shaq fouled out. After an enormous corner three by Robert Horry, the Lakers would pull away with a 96-91 victory. Kobe finished with 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

But but but Shaq carried Kobe.... Shaq fouled out 😂😂😂 if Kobe was carried, why they doubled him?? Haters lost😂😂😂
The Freaky Robber I really want people to stop acting like Kobe was some bum ass role player. Dude was a KILLER!
Man only idiots claimed that Kobe was a walking 27 ppg 5 Ass and 8 rebounds at 23 and these new dudes finally making all stars at 25
Everett Ika ya feel me we never questioned Kobe’s work ethic he gave the game his all who else tears a acl and go shoot free throws after
As much as I love Shaq he got swept five times in the 90s.
The disrespect Kobe receives these days is outrageous.
Kobe GOAT Bryant Completely
Now hes gone 😢💔
😥
Accurate. It's the media and dumb sheep ass people believing these false narratives. Kobe one of the best to lace them up and more skilled than the guys the media states as the goats
Fahiem Ahmadi facts he’s the sixth greatest ever
Kobe was back home💯y'all knew he was gonna show out😂 greatest laker ever💯 second best shooting guard behind MJ!! RIP Kobe Bryant 🙏 You was the greatest during my era in the late 90's-2000's-2010's
another crucial road game in the finals where shaq fouls out and lakers still win
Happened often back then. Too bad these kids that troll on here weren't even born.
Kobe Bryant's number of the player is 8
CUz of kobe bean nigga
That's the player called side kick by the bronsexual fans, carried the team to the game winner !!!
And I wonder why. Hmm 🤔
I always hated 76ers fans.. They hated kobe for no reason. He got his revenge in this series tho
MrAVGNdude and he's from Philly lol
There is reason why they hate kobe because they want kobe to play for philly
Philly fans hate so many athletes it’s stupid.. I hate this fan base
@@princeofwar4551 Well Kobe wanted to play for Philly but the 76ers chosed Iverson over him
MrAVGNdude sixers fans are toxic
***** It's comical how many times he uses the dribble pull-up in this game. Players really need to learn this to be more effective. Lost art imo.
In this finals Kobe averaged 24.6 points 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals
How average
Notice the fans just watching the game without any device or camera in hand to record the game. Nowadays the entire world needs to record something to post on social media.
They had there disposable cameras out 😂
Master Bater well yea they didnt have such handy devices, otherwise they would have been
but he's a side kick... yeah ok MAMBA OUT!
Shaq- 33 points (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
He was a sidekick. That's the actual series. He's a Pippen. Guards shooting 41% from the field don't win championships, they win condolences for their career like Iverson and Melo. But Shaq. A lot of guys play like Kobe. There was only one prime Shaq.
Another finals game Kobe went clutch because Shaq fouled out.. another finals game was against the pacers
The actual series
Shaq- 33 PPG (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
There's a reason Shaq has 3 NBA Finals MVPs and Kobe has 2. Guards shooting 41% from the field and under 2 steals don't win championships unless they have one of the greatest rebounders in the game cleaning up their mess. Ask Iverson. Ask Melo. But for Shaq and Pau Gasol, Bryant is Iverson. And that ain't bad. But that ain't Jordan.
@@ko7577Kobe was also going against raja bell, an elite on ball defender, and going to the hole against mutombo, so while stats are cute, they aren't the whole story. Kobe also took the role of guarding the league MVP and trying to be as good on defense as offense. I know you guys don't understand that, because players today only play defense the last 6 minutes of a game, but chasing iverson on 1 end, and also being the closer on the other is something 99.9 percent of players in history wouldn't be able to do.
@@ko7577 And there's a reason why Kobe won 5 rings and Shaq 4. Shaq never won a ring without an HOF guard. The only time he faced a great center in finals, Hakeem schooled him despite having Penny alongside him. Kobe won a ring with Gasol against Garnett, Pierce, Allen 3 HOF players still in their prime + Rondo. Jordan never faced that much adversity in finals and had Pippen, Kukoc and Rodman for the second three peat. Kobe ain't MJ, he's Kobe.
@@g.c.8349 2000 Finals stats and reality
Kobe Bryant - 15 PPG on 38% shooting
Shaquille O'Neal - 38 PPG, 16.7 RPG, 2.7 BPG and 61% shooting
That's kind of like saying "Jordan never won without a hall of fame forward." And that in 2000, Bryant wasn't up to HOF guard standards. He was a 22 year-old kid, three years younger than Luka, and definitely not playing like a HOF guard in those finals. If you look at that 2000 finals, it took Ron Harper, Kobe Bryant, and Glen Rice's combined PPG total to equal one Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq also went to an NBA finals without a HOF guard in 1995 at age 23. Like James, wherever Shaq showed up, championship appearances and rings materialized where there were none before. The Magic went to a finals within 3 years of his arrival, the Lakers went to 4 championships after his arrival, and Miami was mysteriously a champion for the first time in just his second year after arrival. But you're right. Shaq's secret recipe was a good guard to play inside-outside with. Luka's is - who knows?
That said, Luka is playing with a HOF guard who won a championship with Lebron James and was toe-to-toe with him down the stretch of that finals. But playing with a guy who doesn't play defense and has 8 turnovers a game really creates a problem for most guards. Turnovers are deadly in a game like that. The Mavericks put a team together that Luka was happy with. They made a lot of trades and spent a lot of money to get Kyrie. But it's hard to get in a groove when the captain is young and has first-finals jitters.
@@ko7577 The year Shaq went to his first NBA finals, Penny was 1st team All NBA, Orlando's finals appearance wasn't all because of Shaq. And that's my point, Shaq never did anything without one of the best SG in the League. Penny, Kobe and Wade. Before Kobe became a starter, how was Shaq doing with the Lakers hmm ? And with 2 All star guards, Van Exel and Eddie Jones ? Where were all those finals appearances that you talk about when Shaq goes somewhere ? Nowhere. It was a disaster and Shaq was in his prime. Kobe's emergence changed everything. You know the truth behind the 2000 stats : Shaq was facing an old Rik Smits, at the Center position, he had no competition, when he faced Robinson he didn't had those stats. While Reggie Miller was the best 2 guard in the League at that time. Kobe exit early in game 2, 3min left in the 2nd Quarter, so his stats were clearly ruined. We know the story, Rose injured him on purpose, why ? He knew Kobe was a problem at 21, not 22 yet. They lost the game 3 without Kobe, so you see Shaq alone isn't enough, in the end of close games he needed a closer. And in Reggie Miller's words in game 4 when Shaq fouled out "we had no answer for n°8" even tough his ankle had swollen to the point he had to fight Phil to let him play the game. Don't try to reduce Kobe's importance in the Lakers 3peat, it's a waste of time. Look at Kobe's defensive assignements in finals compared to Shaq's, Miller, Iverson, Jason Kidd...and look at their FG% and turnovers. In those finals Shaq dominated average players while Kobe was the Lakers's closer and defended the best player in the opposite team which were 3 HOFers Miller, AI and Kidd.
that 2001 playoff run was crazy 15-1 shaq was dominant at home while kobe dominated the road together they avgd like close to 60 ppg in the playoffs thats crazy as fuck.
Bryant shot 41% from the field that series. That's classic Iverson meltdown. But when you got a guy grabbing 15.8 boards, you're fine.
He averaged 33 6 and 7 the series before this on 48% against the spurs who had the best record that year. So what’s your point?
@@belak1551The point is Kobe should’ve performed close or just as well vs the Sixers as he did vs the Spurs. The Spurs had tougher defenders for Shaq and Kobe. You trying to tell me that Antonio Daniels, Eric Snow and Aaron McKie are as great defenders as Mutombo, Duncan and Robinson?
@@Theterminato2013besides a shitty game 1 kobe played great this series
@@Theterminato2013a few variables on Kobe playing "worse" vs sixers compared to spurs, the main reason was perimeter defense, the sixers had raja bell, an elite defender, whereas McDaniels was not at that level, plus mutombo down low is also 1 of the best shot blockers ever, some say the best. Then Kobe took a much larger defensive role in this series guarding the league MVP Allen Iverson, so he was expending alot of energy on the defensive end. Imagine chasing Iverson on defense and still scoring the buckets down the stretch for your team.
gonna miss the bean Kobe#1
R.I.P. Kobe, gone but never forgotten.
There is no way LeBron can shoot like this they have to double Kobe they leave LeBron open
When lebron is doubled he has no way out but to pass or travel
Such a shame these kids comparing kobe with lebron
And the different ways that he scores...Unbelievable!!Skill set like no other💯
@@menardavud9736 never talk basketball again
No they don’t
lol Kobe Bryant has the lowest shooting percentage of anyone in the top 15 scorers or all time. He had to sink his teams to get his points. But for Shaq, this dude is a 2-ringer. As for Lebron, he's the #1 scorer of all-time and played in 10 NBA finals, won four rings, and shot 51% from the field for his career. And he didn't play with prime Jordan for his rings. He's the Finals MVP for ALL of his rings. Kobe was a little man for three of his.
This series:
Shaq- 33 points (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
And this series? Kobe shot 41% lol Shaq made Pippen look good
@5:40 "He loves the road" no he don't he home...😂😂😂
Imagine if he made that dunk over mutombo at 8:10
Hey Nick Wrong I'm still waiting to see Shaq carrie Kobe. Know disrespect to Shaq but, Shaq won 1 Championship without Kobe. But kobe went 2 out of 3 in Championships without Shaq.
@dwade yeah his defense and rebounding was superb. Being double and triple team he got his team by all means a Championship.
Yeah he was handed something alright the " MVP " of the Finals.
@dwade look I get you fan you and all the rest or bronsexuals. You cried when herd of his death didn't you
@dwade 5 rings! Respect that man
@dwade so I take it you're a Lakers fan now, well youg man I've been a Lakers fan probably before you were born. I know basketball, you know stats but one stat that kills every bron fan is that, Kobe won 5 out of 7. Bron won 3 out of 9 so call best player in the world. I think Durant has something to say about that. And besides all the ladys like jewelry not stats. Go figure
@dwade so you a Lakers fan, ok now those WCF Portland, Sacramento and The Spurs. 4 quarter shaq fouls out. Who was the go to guy. And another thing I don't judge a mans private life. It's about Basketball without Kobe Shaq don't win those western conference finals. Those whete the battles on the court. I be came a Lakers fan when Kareem came to town in 1974.
Imagine if shaq had a killer instinct like kobe. He have more rings!!!
Kicks1981 35 they could've won 5 straight championships from 2000-2004.
Kicks1981 35 Shaq should have taken better care of his body.
@@atlaslion5128 late reply but shaq honestly said this.
@@isthishandleavailableyes late late reply. But yes he could have worked out more and partied less
This series
Shaq- 33 points (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
And Shaq actually has 3 Finals MVPs compared to Kobe's 2. So no matter how many rings Kobe had, he was a Pippen on three of those. And we all know it.
Imagine if Kobe wasn't a 41% shooter from the field (38% in the Detroit series). He'd have had more rings, too.
Damn this was the most dominant duo I’ve ever seen
I really miss midrange play.
That horry dunk @8:48 tho
Kobe took control of the game and series in the 2nd quarter
I had no idea Raja Bell was plotting that clothesline for so long.
Young GOAT
Man the nba was tough back then, your teammates don’t even show you love at the free throw line.
8:12
"You can't let Kobe Bryant catch the Basketball, so whatever you're doing here, double-team him, make somebody else get it."
Who's here after the death 😩?
Been my favorite channel forever. Definitely reliving it
LA Lakers against Philadelphia Pennsylvania
The amount of times Shaq fouled out in the playoffs + finals is so overlooked.. Kobe had to close games out by himself during these championships runs can people still disrespect Kobe to this day... Such a shame.
Kobe should’ve won the finals mvp...Proove me wrong
Facts!! And another thing West if you watch that full game Kobe would attack the rim a lot in the second half but they barely called anything for him
RIP TO THE BEST
Kob, we mamba you! Rest easy with GG 💜💛
Kobe was just different man, RIP to the man who made me a basketball nerd 💜💛
That dude yelling at Kobe is straight outa 1990
Robert Horry again
RIP Goat
Kobe is better than Lebron
but shaq carried Kobe??????
Kobe was basically playing at his childhood home area. The boos was ridiculous.
Big Shot Rob!!!! And another game where Shaq fouls out and the Lakers still win on the highest stage, why you ask? Kobe Bryant
2001 NBA Finals Stats
Shaq- 33 points (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
Dude, you're blind
@@ko7577 Shaq played against an aged Mumtubo foh out,Kobe was having to to switch and guard Iverson if Fisher wasn’t..
I watch these videos to get the Lebron era out of my head. Worst thing to happen to the Lakers in its history.
Big shot bob
RIP kobe
rip kobe
2001 22 YEAR OLD KOBE BRYANT 8# IS MY FAVORITE VERSION OF THE BLACK MAMBA!!! GO LAKERS 2023!!!
So...how many Finals games did Kobe have to bail LA out after Shaq got 6 fouls?
Damnnn man, just got nostalgic asf as i was reminiscing. Its almost gonna be a year later, and i'm still so hurt and in disbelief over this.😢
TOO Good
I remember this
Still wouldn't consider calling someone with stats such as this a sidekick
These were the actual stats for this series:
Shaq- 33 points (57% shooting), 15.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 blocks a game
Kobe- 24.6 PPG (41.5% shooting), 7.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.4 steals
I think there are a lot of homosexual men out there who had a crush on Kobe back in the day. Guards shooting 41% don't win championships unless they're a Pippen. You've got a center with almost as many assists as the guard blocking 3.4 shots a game and nailing 57% of his shots from the field. I won't even go into the 15.8 rebounds he got because Kobe kept bricking everything. The Detroit series was even worse, Bryant shot 38% and took 40 more shots than the guy nailing 63% of his shots. But homos prefer Kobe.
And maybe you missed the announcer's "Kobe only had 15 last game, Shaq had 44." lol
It's funny because pippen never had a series close to this as Mjs sidekick, and yet LeBron fans will tell you pippen is better than MJ, but Kobe is the sidekick 😂
Kobe's game is so beautifully flawed. He lacks Jordan's quick first step and LeBron's bionic power. So he often has to rely on multiple moves just to get to the basket. This results in fantastic display of skills and body control. But also leads him to be less efficient, for if all of his options are closed out he can't jump and bully people to the paint like Jordan and LeBron. I think that's his biggest difference between the legends. He's not as physically gifted. Jordan and LeBron has their hops and power, Kareem and Wilt are enormous, Shaq is so physically dominant, KD is so tall he can just shoot over everyone. That's why I have a heightened level of respect for Kobe and Curry. They're literally unicorns of the game. Nothing physically special about them but they make up for it with skills.
Kobe was the most skilled player to ever touch a basketball
Kobe did not have trouble getting to the basket and finishing over people when he was younger
@@8ghosts When he was younger yes. From 08 - 12 he started losing that athleticism. Had a resurgence in 2013 because of the knee surgery he had. But that's pretty much it, he had to rely on skill as he got older.
@5:47 "It's all about you Kobe!" LMAO
Does anybody notice the screen blinking really fast a word I can’t make out or is it just me?
Its saying premier week I got that caught also
man i miss those days.
😇🖤♥️😇♥️😍
Mamba being carried, these so called sports analyst greatest of this era
Chris Stevens You are clearly a kid that doesn't know shit.
MRTUPAC 28 a A highly etiligent one not some delusional fan who's obsessed with numbers.
MRTUPAC 28 who had a more sustainable career interms of ring without each other ?? Because remember my orig
inal point derived from this false narrative that kobe was being carried.
MRTUPAC 28 I have a masters in English literature cougars stand up. I'm just way beyond your comprehension because you obviously a dumb ass
Chris Stevens You just called yourself a fuck boy. Damn you are not stupid as fuck.
My god that 76ers team was TRASH. AI just carried them all year
Unfortunately they way AI played this was the perfect team to put around him. A bunch of tough minded defensive players.
Kobe rarely shot well when he went to Philly
For those who don’t know, Shaq averaged 33ppg, 15rpg and 4bpg and shot 65% from the field
Kobe averaged 24ppg and 5 assists while shooting 44% from the field.
Who’s carried whom again?
Shaq was resting defense that's why his finals was great he didn't have to guard nobody
Kobe didn't even shoot 44%. It was 41.5%. Thank you for putting up the reality of those three rings. There's always a Pippen. There's always a Jordan. In those first three runs, Shaq was the Jordan. Guards shooting 41% from the field don't win championships unless they're playing with something really, really big. If Kobe had gone to Charlotte and a smaller market, he'd have been a Melo.
Kobe averaged 33 ppg 7 assist and 6 rebounds vs the spurs in the western conference finals.
35 ppg 5 and 5 vs the Kings in the Semi finals.
Both teams were better than the 76ers this year. So who carried who?
Kobe I miss you everyday. RIP I see u every day. Love you brother.
