Growing Broccoli Sprouts for Highest Sulforaphane 🌱

  • Wish I had known about sulforaphane earlier!
    1. Wash 4 tbsp of broccoli seeds per quart jar with a drop of soap and a tbsp of vinegar. Rinse 10+ times to remove all soap.
    2. Soak overnight (8 hours minimum) and discard the water.
    3. Keep moist in a dark environment (like the pantry) by rinsing the seeds at least twice a day. Use a stainless steel mesh lid and stand the jar upside down (or at an angle) to drain excess water.
    4. Rinse and repeat for 3-4 days. As soon as leaves shoot out of the majority of the seeds-they’re ready to eat! In fact, this is when they have the highest sulforaphane content, so freeze them if not consuming within a day or two.

I heard that heating them up to a specific temperature near boiling also increases the available active ingredient. Then you can freeze it for later.

I have a whole write-up on maximizing the sulforaphane content here: aegeandelight.com/growing-broccoli-sprouts/
Technically the seeds have the highest amount but they contain too much erucic acid. Here is the protocol I recommend following to get the most out of them:
      1) Harvest the sprouts as soon as their cotyledons (leaves) pop out of the seed. 2) Leave the broccoli sprouts at about 70 degrees Celsius water for 10 minutes. Don't discard the water! 3) Transfer the sprouts and the soaking water to a blender, mix, and consume immediately.

@@AegeanDelight Dr Rhonda Patrick said you can freeze it for later and it will still be effective, after you boil it.

@@AegeanDelight I told all the cigarette smokers I know about the broccoli sprouts also.
Even my coworkers when I used to work at a lead recycling plant.
But I stopped taking it because the information I know about it is like 20 minutes worth of word of mouth without scientific information.
Might as well be covid vaccine propaganda. I might consider taking it in the future again after more research.

You are misinformed: When sprouts are consumed fresh (uncooked), however, the principal degradation product of broccoli is not the isothiocyanate sulforaphane, but a nitrile, a compound with little anti-cancer potential. By contrast, radish sprouts produce largely the anti-cancer isothiocyanate, sulforaphene.”

Thanks for letting me know! A very quick google shows me this study where sulforaphane was found to be safe for those with thyroid disease: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6422739/
But as always, follow the recommendations of your healthcare practitioner as I'm not qualified to advise on the topic. Cheers!

    • @Quintana_09
      @Quintana_09 Год назад +2

You literally have to eat POUNDS of broccoli sprouts to get a thyroid issue. But even in that case, all you have to do is increase foods rich in iodine such as sea kelp or any other seafood for that matter to counteract the effects of the broccoli sprouts.
