That tool you weren’t sure about is an extraction tool for tub drains. When the cross breaks, you can use that to grip the tub strainer and remove it.

Hi Chuck, Great video, I used to own a 100 plus year old house in Rutherford, NJ. I had a similar set up in one of the bathrooms in my house, it had to be from the 40's or 50's. I would dread having to change the washers especially with all the old screws holding the washers in place.I always had to wrestle removing the handles then working with those tub wrenches to remove the stems. Im sure the screws holding the washers in place were original. The heads were starting to disintegrate, i'd take my time removing the screws. With a small screw driver I'd back the screw out, then replace the washer put it all back together and call it a day. i never had to replace the seats. That housing seemed like it was cemented or plastered into the wall, it would have been a major job to remove it from the wall. I believe its still in use today.

I noticed that after youtube started getting popular, repairs on things like toilets and faucets are few and far between in my area. Occasionally I'll get an elderly person or a husband who messes up a faucet, but for the most part it's not financially worth the trip for my company personally anymore. If the faucet or toilet are more than 15 years old we just recommend replacement.

I'm just a drain guy now but I love the information on how to change a faucet. Great stuff, Chuck, and you're right. There just ain't enough money and doing that type of work. It's been a long time since I did something like that but my guess is you'd have to get at least four hundred bucks to do that job what do you think

Thanks for the video! I am facing doing the same. Why do the L handles strip the seats? What is better, any T-handle? I just bought a set of these to replace the valves as my wife said she could not adjust the mix to the right temperature. Still have not opened. I thought I would replace the seats while I was in there. Maybe I should leave well enough alone if they are not actually leaking (yet)? They are hard to turn off, so maybe it is worn washers?

I have to say, Chuck, I haven't watched a bideo in a while, but I missed your personality. Yeah, that job is always a craps shoot. Especially if it is in an apartment building, on the third floor. With no access to shut off valves. Gotta shut down the main, and pray nothing breaks or strips, while taking it off. Thanks for sharing, buddy. What do we got? Another satisfied customer, that's right.

I'm installing a new three handle tub/shower kit from Danco & the copper valve seats do not have any washers attached or included, nor does my old one (unless it corroded away)? Do these valve seats need a washer or teflon thread? Also, be careful with these kits because in my case, the faucet stems fit but the the diverter stem does not. Back to the hardware store...again.

@ChuckBarron keep them coming. How do you think I learned about the seat inside the facet? Yes, I got the L shaped tool you thought was junk, but it worked. Need the handel puller, though. They get really stuck on.
