      It's from the extended editions.
I don't know what they would look like now but when I bought them years ago The Fellowship extended version was an olive green box with 4 DVDS.
Two for the first and second halves of the extended versions of the movie itself and two for the 3 or so hrs. of BTS footage.
The same format is contained within the next two films but the boxes were red and blue respectively for the second and third films.

The grand scans of the story they had to tell, the limited time they had to film it and create it, the limited amount they got to film. Despite what they had to leave out or change, it goes without saying (I think) that this trilogy truly did Tolkien's story a great deal of justice and will never be topped

Viggo Mortensen is an astonishingly gifted actor. In any of the roles he has played, he IS that character, to the point that there are no gestures, expressions, or small actions that tie his performance to other portrayals.

    • @SillySpaceMonkey

A History of Violence... The Green Book... he just sort of disappears into roles and it's truly delightful to watch. I love Hidalgo and the Road, because they literally let him carry the entirety of the films. There are almost no shots that aren't directly about him, and they don't feel afraid of quietude or "not enough happening in this five seconds of film".
I don't wanna write a whole dissertation, but I personally feel he's in the camp with Daniel Day Lewis in terms of actors, and I think a lot of people don't remember to remember him. Not that he's underrated or that people would deny him his due, just that people almost have to be reminded that he exists, even if they're fans.

@@SillySpaceMonkey - I would add to your admired actors Denzel Washington. If you doubt this, I would suggest you (re)watch ‘Philadelphia’. The scene where he and Tom Hanks are in Hanks’ apartment to plan strategy, and Hanks is reacting to an operatic performance shows Washington’s reaction to Hanks’ emotion. He does not move the smallest facial muscle (or any other) yet conveys understanding and deep empathy, and sorrow. Unless he has managed to project telepathically directly onto film,it is an amazing performance.

    • @SillySpaceMonkey
      @SillySpaceMonkey 9 месяцев назад +6

@judithgockel1001 definitely a beloved film and wonderful performances. As it pertains to my intended point, though, I think everybody gives Denzel his much deserved flowers. Denzel can be doing pretty much nothing and completely fill the space he's in. It's fantastic, and the scene you mentioned is a fantastic example of it. My thing with Viggo is that - for me - you kinda forget you're looking at him. I don't mean this as anything but the highest praise, but I feel like people watch him and forget that acting is happening? I'm not saying that the the best way, but I'm not really sure how to distill this nebulous quality. I can have gone to see a movie specifically for him, and there's a part of me that if asked on the way out of the theater, would pretty genuinely think, "oh yeah... that *was* Viggo.... nice!"

Ive watched hundreds of movies including movies from the 1960s until the present, and there are many memorable of them. But LOTR is definitely the best trilogy so far, and one of the best if not the best of all time. My favorite among the three is the Fellowship of the Ring...i still have goosebumps and tears watching this film until this day. The story, the lore, the music, acting, effects and casting is exceptional. A perfect blend of fantasy, drama, action, love story, friendship and a genius tint of comedy. The casting itself is almost perfect, almost everyone is perfect for their roles. Im still at awe at the roles of Galadriel, Gandalf, Sam, even Saruman and Aragorn... they are perfectly played on screen. I was lucky to watch the trilogy on the theaters twenty years ago, I don't think Hollywood can par something like this in the next 50 years.

Liv Tyler doesn’t get enough recognition. She’s incredibly beautiful, super sweet, bubbly and she doesn’t mind laughing at herself. I think people may mistake this for ‘ditzy’ but the thought she put into her character and her performance, reveals her true depth and brilliance. She knew that her part was ‘beefed up’ to put more emphasis on the romance between her and Aragorn but she purposely chose a more understated approach because she didn’t want to distract from the central storyline. She isn’t loud or overly dramatic, she just preformed with the quiet strength that perfectly serves the story but is still incredibly moving.(unlike some of the recent ‘in your frickin face’ performances that can be seen in a certain thing I personally call ‘The Billion Dollar Not-A-Fan-Fiction’ because the people who wrote it obviously have no love, or interest, for that matter, in the source material )

@@alaia-awakenedIan Mckellen allegedly began to cry on the Hobbit because he had most of his scenes in front of a green screen and had to talk to a green ball. He broke down and said that this is not why he became an actor. Basically the story. Dont know if its true confirmed etc.

@@RobertDownedU_JrIt wouldn’t surprise me if it were true.
It might cost a light of time and energy to produce real things, but isn’t it why humans are alive? Why we are here’s to experience the physical world and companionship. So what if it costs more time and energy.
It’s not like we are really short of that. People can afford an extra 2 dollars to pay for the quality required in the cinema and purchases of films.
And they damned well will for something that’s a masterpiece.

I got the Lord of the Rings Trilogy for Christmas 1975 and my life changed. I built my identity around the characters who were my role models. So much so my school teachers would regularly call my parents and beg them to encourage other interests. I was aliening or converting my entire peer group. It was everything to me.

I wish I could re-see the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time again..
I remember being 16 years old when the first one came out and watching it in an actual theater... 16 times. I skipped school too. And then when 2 and 3 came out... geez... probably saw both of those 30 times together. My teenage into adulthood years were Lord of the Rings and i regret nothing. 2001-2003 I think was thr first time I actually camped out to make sure I got tickets to be the first to see a movie.

This is without a doubt the best BTS ever made in this history if filmmaking. They truly embodied the LOTR. Although I wish they could have squeezed in Tom Bombadil I understand their reasoning for having left out the barrow wights and TB and his lovely wife

this trilogy is once in a century work. The closest we could appropriately get a remake trilogy is like... year 2100, when every person who remembered this trilogy in early 2000 has already passed away.

I know what you mean…But there is simply no need though. It’s so well done. If they wanna remaster and and detail and quality to the CGI they can easily do that, and nobody would object. But there’s no need to remake the movie.

You gave me a community in the shire on my TV while I was struggling through isolation and too much work...
