Half the magic in this film came from John Williams’s music. He really set the atmosphere, from the title theme to Quidditch to fight themes, and made some of most memorable tracks in cinema history.
the main harry potter melody (and even the secondary ones) are just ingenius. Incredible works. That guy was right- you hear those first few notes and you know exactly where you are.
me too! For various reasons (mainly because of my mom) I've never really got into harry potter when I was a child, I've seen the first movie when I was 12, and read the first 4 books during 9th and 10th grade. What really made the movie for me was the set/prop design and the music, everything else comes secondary, really, those are the elements that made it truly magical. As for today, the Philosopher's stone is still my favourite, it's the one I like the best in terms of visuals, but also because I think it's the most cohesive, from a narrative point of view...maybe because it's more simple and there are relatively less characters, and the stakes are lower, I don't know..
A shout out to John Williams. He is an absolute genius when it comes to music, especially with this series. The music is so iconic and so memorable. When you hear it, it just takes you back to the world of Harry Potter.

So much passion, dedication and tolerance about his creation. I'm sure even after 50 years people will go back to this first 2 movies with excitement. I'm forever grateful for this magic
Yes for the first couple of movies, but maybe not for goblet of fire and onward. At that point the books get a very dark tone and Columbus I think was only used to kids films so ye I think the later directors were better for the dark tone. (Except for goblet of fire)
@@bunnyedits9541 agreed. It’s interesting you feel that way. Mike Newell came for Goblet and only stayed for one movie. It is rumoured he only wanted the job to say he directed HP, it didn’t come from a place of passion. I think David Yates was great for the final 4 movies

They really nailed it with Daniel Emma and Rupert. They were absolutely amazing in their roles. The rest of the cast was absolutely brilliant too but incredibly, the set design was the most impressive. This series fails if the cinematography and set aren't magical in itself
I don’t think people realise what an amazing job the directors and producers did. Movies from books are almost never, NEVER approved of by the general public. Countless book series with huge fandoms have tried to achieve what Harry Potter has, and they almost always fail, e.g. Divergent, Percy Jackson, Shadowhunters, etc.
Well, Twilight did amazing: The series actually made *more* money relative to its budget than the Harry Potter series did. Hunger Games also did quite well. And Divergent I don't really think was the movie's fault - it was simply that audiences were growing tired of that type of movie (and/or it was coming out at a similar time as the tail end of Hunger Games...)
Just had goosebumps...my whole childhood flashed before my eyes...and I'm still as fascinated as i could ever be. Even if this video was 12 hours..i would have watched it without skipping. A FAVOUR TO ASK..COULD I GET MY HOGWARTS LETTER...Waiting for it Still❤️
John Williams doesn’t overlay his work onto the image, he roots it deep into the story universe. The similarity and references, the grandeur Williams carries on from famous works of classical composers is one of my favorite aspects and proves that Williams isn’t just a creator but also a curator who reinvents what was loved in the past, bringing it into the present.
Watching this 20 years after the first film came out is wild to me. I'm not sure if anyone really knew how huge this series would become. We grew up with them, they'll always be a part of our lives, and they really brought the magical world of harry potter to life. It's also quite sad to see how many actors have passed since then, rest in peace to them all. ❤️
Some people asking for more Harry Potter sequels... Im more like... can we get some prequels? Eventhough we know what would ultimately happen, I would love to see Harry's parents get sorted to their houses. Or the shenanigans Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs got themselves into. If done right, those could be some amazing movies.
Yes I agree. I’d love to see tom riddle and myrtle the chamber being opened for the first time. I’d love to see Harry’s parents and the weasleys go to school. The first wizarding war all the way up to Harry Potter and the philosophers stone.
The biggest miracle was casting the three kids who not only were perfect for the central characters but aged gracefully into mature role models for millions of fans and avoided the Hollywood scandals and pitfalls of other child actors.
So much effort goes into these spectacles, for us it’s a 2hr video but for these guys it’s months of research, planning and shear effort. We appreciate you guys so much!
The Harry Potter world is a limitless world. There is so many movies that H.P. fans will pay to see. Creation of Hogwarts, the first Order, I would love to see more about the first time the chamber of secrets was opened.
The Harry Potter books and films changed my life! I've read the books and watched the movies countless times. It was wonderful, sharing all of it with my kids, who were the same age, growing up, as Daniel, Emma, and Rupert. Every time the next book was published, we were off to a midnight book party at Barnes and Noble. First in line to see each new movie. The whole experience has been and continues to be PURE MAGIC.

Born in June 91 myself, so was literally the same age as Harry Potter as the films were released. Truly an amazing experience to grow up alongside and one that we will surely never see again.
The fact we now refer to it as a seperate age/time. 2000 is 21 years ago now. It’s scary. Emma Watson is 30, Rupert has a child now, Alan rickman is dead. It’s really scary
@@davebob2884 yeah that’s real sad man I remember when Harry Potter hype was a thing and I wore earmuffs all day to protect me from spoilers from Prisioner of Azkaban
I reread all of the books and rewatch all of the movies once or twice each year. When the books were still being published, I would reread all of the previous books right before the new one would come out. I sure wasn't a kid when this all started but I have loved every bit of Harry Potter's world.
I've only recently learnt about how much of an upheaval it was for these kids for years. Not being aloud to do anything with your hair, no sports. Imagine not being able to go skiing with your family on holidays? Not that I've ever been skiing anyway lol but still they gave up a lot. While most of us were out having fun these kids were working hard to bring Harry Potter to life and ill forever be grateful.

My daughter taped the first Harry Potter off tv for me. I didn’t think much of kids doing witchcraft, but I watched it. I absolutely loved it. I bought all the books as soon as they came out & bought all of the movies. I have Hedwig’s theme as the ringtone on my phone. When I make pies for holiday dinners i start late into the night when it’s peaceful & I watch Harry Potter movies. I read all the books in 80 days & read the last one in 4 days. I hardly slept & cried through most of it when so many of the characters died. It was very sad. I knew there would never be another movie, too. It was quite a few years ago when I read the books. I’m listening to them on audiobooks now. I love everything about Harry Potter & was amazed how true to the book the movies were. It was amazing. I love them all, but the first 2 are my favorites. You’re never too old for Harry Potter, i’m 73 years old & i’m a true fan. I also had a great uncle named Harry Potter. lol💕🐞⚡️🦉
People say the first two movies are kind of dull compared to the others. I disagree completely, they have such a timeless magical quality like home alone or Mrs Doubtfire, something deeply nostalgic that the other films don't have.
I agree. I loved the first movie, because that was the beginning. But my favorite was the second one, Chamber of Secrets. But I guess most people liked the later ones better. I was wondering. Am I the only one that likes the earlier ones better?
The Harry Potter series, Game of Thrones, House of Dragons, Pirates of the Caribbean series. These are all favorites of mine that I also have bought dvd/bluray copies of. I haven't mentioned the Marvel films, that's another story. 😊

I used to fly every other Friday evening from Seattle to my home in the Eastern Time Zone and then back on Sunday afternoon to see my daughter. Did that for eight months; I can't imagine doing it from LONDON... I now have deep respect for Chris Columbus.
The Chris Columbus films are my favorite, they really capture the magic of the series. There's a timeless and nostalgic quality to them that the other films in the series don't have. He also has a lot of experience working with kids and bringing out the best in them
EDIT: I just realized Chris Columbus also directed McCaulay Culkin in Home Alone, one of the most iconic child acting performances ever. He has a gift with kids. Agreed. He also put together an incredible core cast that remained for the rest the series. The golden trio, all the Weasleys except Bill, Dame Maggie Smith as McGonagall, Alan Rickman as Snape, Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Tom Felton as Draco, Mathew Lewis as Neville, Devon Murray as Seamus, Alfie Enoch as Dean, Jason Isaacs as Lucius, Warwick Davis as Flitwick and Griphook, and David Bradley as Filch were all Columbus' castings. The man deserves way more credit than he gets.

They really nailed it with Daniel Emma and Rupert. They were absolutely amazing in their roles. The rest of the cast was absolutely brilliant too but incredibly, the set design was the most impressive. This series fails if the cinematography and set aren't magical in itself
2024 present!
Growing up with the the whole franchise is a whole ‘nother flex. It’s not just an obsession, it’s a part of you
That’s how I feel… I was 10 when the first film came out. 30 years old now… Definitely a part of me 😢
@@jtothewood yep, I was 8 when i went to cinema to watch the first movie. It was mesmerising and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Please never stop making Harry Potter's movies. The legend must go on! 🏆

Nah leave the 8 movies untouched

I don’t think I’ll ever stop getting goosebumps from that music.
I have a wind chime that my husband made thirty years ago and when the wind is just right, it plays the first few notes of the magical melody.

Honestly, Harry Potter was and still is to this day my Star Wars. Seeing stuff like this really helps grow my love and appreciation for these films.
Rather see the Marauders than that Fantastic Beasts nonsense
Yes I agree. I’d love to see tom riddle and myrtle the chamber being opened for the first time. I’d love to see Harry’s parents and the weasleys go to school. The first wizarding war all the way up to Harry Potter and the philosophers stone.
I’d love to see a film about Dumbledore’s life
@@bellef7687 it's coming ;)

"Rupert don't smile!"
Now I want to imagine that every goofy face Rupert was making in the early movies was him trying so hard not to smile 😆
The biggest miracle was casting the three kids who not only were perfect for the central characters but aged gracefully into mature role models for millions of fans and avoided the Hollywood scandals and pitfalls of other child actors.
@macweilman535
They turned out better than a lot of child stars but they didn’t emerge unscathed; David, for example, is a recovering alcoholic.
So much effort goes into these spectacles, for us it’s a 2hr video but for these guys it’s months of research, planning and shear effort. We appreciate you guys so much!

LIMITLESSSSSSSSSSSSS I TELL YA
EXACTLY! As much as i love the actor, I wouldn’t mind having another harry potter movie related with different cast
Current agree more! the hype around the releases was so fun!
born in 1997. Grew up to these films... Getting to watch them age while I grew up alongside them was truly special.... I thank all you for the hard work that went into this art... Thank you for the experience!!!!!!!
Born in June 91 myself, so was literally the same age as Harry Potter as the films were released. Truly an amazing experience to grow up alongside and one that we will surely never see again.
Every scene ever: "RUPERT DON'T SMILE"

Much respect to the composer. The music connects to the film so wonderfully
John Williams a certified LEGEND
They earned it though.
I'm a potter-head and it still feels new to me, Harry Potter will never get old
Watching this makes me feel so emotional I remember the day I watch it when I was 11years old now I have 28 and I still have the same feeling magnificent movie ❤🌸

The fact that they were new, fresh, and slightly nervous made them perfect for their roles and probably added to the atmosphere 😊 casting was phenomenal 👌
Even just watching this can fill me with a sense of wonder and magic. Harry Potter is a timeless franchise I'm so happy to be alive to enjoy.
I’m 20, I grew up loving these films and throughout my siblings pregnancies my mum would read the books as they came out. I grew up to my mum reading these to me as a kid and then watching the movies with my siblings. I feel old seeing this now but at the same time I still have movie marathons and they make me happy.
If it’s one thing I love to watch, whether it’s a television or a theatrical release, is the behind-the-scenes productions. I want to know how, when, where, who, and why it all happened! This is brilliant!
Can't imagine one single role in this movie that can be replaced.. everyone just fits perfectly... Well Dumbledore did change but whatever
that's so true. unfortunately, some characters were underutilized or were poorly written.. big example is Ginny.
@@jannedrumsit that's Rowling's fault...if Columbus knew how Rowling would change Ginny's character later he would've cast someone else. Bonnie Wright was perfect for the _Chamber of Secrets_ Ginny

My children were perfectly capable of reading these books, but it was my way of tucking them in at night- spending about 30 minutes to an hour reading. I did my best with all of the accents and voices, and have such fond memories of the three of us discovering the world of Harry Potter together! I love all things Potter as much as they do!
Sounds like a wonderful memory to look back at, must be special seeing the films together with your children now when they’re older :)
epic
I was 23 when this came out I didn't feel it that much. I liked lord of the rings but as I got older I got to understand the movies. I am more a fan of it. I'm 43 now and I love each film. The last one when we understood what really happened and why with professor snape brought a tear to my eye every time I see it. Thanks for a great series. I'm going to watch it now. Awesome.
The harry potter movies are the only ones which i will never stop watching. I will always go back and watch them again
I also had a great uncle named Harry Potter. lol💕🐞⚡️🦉
Aw so sweet
The first two are my favorites, too!
People say the first two movies are kind of dull compared to the others. I disagree completely, they have such a timeless magical quality like home alone or Mrs Doubtfire, something deeply nostalgic that the other films don't have.
Who says that?
No true HP fan would say that. Who can forget the first sight of the magical world?
They're not dull at all they had the perfect mixture of magic and darkness. Some of the effects haven't aged well but all in all they're solid films
At 75 years old I waited just as the young kids did for each book
Tolkien was my go-to when I needed calm
JK Rawling was needed to awaken reading in today's youth
Both these authors have such imagination
Both series of films required people to make the book on site
Both the series of films were just as the authors imagined their characters, places, and stories.
i cried when finishing the books and i cried even harder when i finished the films, it will forever be the most iconic thing in my life
Sadly, we recently lost another Harry Potter legend a few days back. The amazing Helen McCrory.
I miss watching movies with real sets. I honestly think this is why I loved the philosopher's Stone.
It was refreshing to see sets again.
nowadays most movies are very much into just green screen and there's not really a need to build anything yeah
This is so cute! The fact that some of the older characters finally took their roles because of their grandsons and granddaughters' insistence!
thank you for this experience. I was only 4 when Harry potter came out. 24 now.. thank you for all of the hard work that went into this masterpiece.
What is it about Diagon Alley that makes me cry? Seeing it here, visiting it in Orlando. This first film like no other makes me feel like a wide eyed child again.

20th Anniversary of Harry Potter Series (2001-2021)
After watching this in its entirety my thoughts are simply this: it all came together. Each section, each piece, each element worked together to create the magic that is Harry Potter. Bravo.
I used to fly every other Friday evening from Seattle to my home in the Eastern Time Zone and then back on Sunday afternoon to see my daughter. Did that for eight months; I can't imagine doing it from LONDON... I now have deep respect for Chris Columbus.
Young Dan, Rupert & Emma are too pure!
They are so well spoken tbh. They're like 12 lol 😅
21:00: "they couldn't be any greener!!!"
21:10: *Emma proves him wrong with professionalism*
21 years later, and HP1 is now a classic! It’s just a well done, awesome, awesome movie! Even the CGI holds up!
I can't even imagine how amazing it must've been to make these movies, especially for Daniel, Emma and Rupert.
