    a small tip for sneak attack. you don't necessary need advantage for sneak attack. the other requirement is to have party members in 1.5m range and that party member isn't necessary tav or companions, minions count as well. the problem, rogue is likely the first to attack due to high dex, how can you have party member close to the target? that's why we get shovel at act1. he's a quasit and he can cast invis free of cost. let he stay invis permantly and he won't get in combat mode and free to move anywhere.

    Amazingly interesting series!
    Especially for classes (like rogue) that are most often just used for a dip so you don't see too many multiclass "guides" that focus on that class first and whichever options can complement them second.

  • @xenocide1307
    @xenocide1307 8 месяцев назад +4

    Rogue/Bard is actually deceptively strong. Thief is really the only multiclass to consider with the two, because the extra bonus action is what really sets the action economy over the top. Thief 6/Lore 6 gives you a ton of versatility, and really lets you skill monkey your way through the whole game with the absolute pile of proficiencies and expertise that you accumulate. Not to mention giving yourself the opportunity to pick up Counterspell and Haste (and to a lesser degree Misty Step, but lots of gear makes this available) is a massive upgrade in power. The martial Bards are a bit interesting. Valour being the slightly worse of the two, really only offers a Shield proficiency as it's standout feature, which really isn't terrible. However, the Flourishes from Swords I think really offer much more impactful utility, and defensive flourish even exceeds what a shield can offer in terms of raw AC. As far as leveling goes, this may be controversial, but I think going to Bard 6 is actually a waste. The extra third level spells choices don't really matter much, since without Magical Secrets the base selection is pretty underwhelming. The extra attack is also not that useful, since unlike other Martials, you only get a single nova off your sneak attack per turn. Because of this, going Thief 7/Martial Bard 5 seems a bit more optimized for both your attack action, and general awesomeness of getting Evasion. It also needs to be stated, that either multiclass option is really pushed up when you acquire the Band of the Mystic Scoundrel. This item greatly amplifies your combat potential in a way that's hard to fully realize until you put it into action.

  • @PartNinja

    Rogue theif/sword Bard can solo a lot of them game. Hold person or command can lock down a few enemies and you use special arrows, like the multi-hit one and can do quite a bit of damage. There's a gear item that lets you cast them as a bonus action.

  • @jarrodbright5231
    @jarrodbright5231 9 месяцев назад +3

    So when assessing Rogue/Bard I take it we're ignoring the Swords Bard / Thief 6/6 dual-class that does insane damage with twin hand crossbows? 2 main-hand attacks with double attacks and extra damage from Slashing Flourish or just extra damage from Sneak Attack, then 2 off-hand attacks with two weapon fighting style, with all the usual hand crossbow boosts building up over 4-6 attacks in a turn? Certainly better than a C+ for that build alone I think. The spells are really just a bonus, though it does take care of needing a utility caster in the party, so you can make do with a 14 Charisma.

      I used shortswords for rare times when melee happened, since you can disengage as a bonus action, and mostly used 2 light crossbows as the weapons. Used the two feats for ability improvements for Dex but could equally have gone with 18 Dex and Alert feat.
      If you wanted to go with a triple class you'll need the Bard to 6 for extra attack and Thief at least to 3 for the extra bonus action; could got ot 4 for a feat if you wanted to go for 2 levels of Fighter for Action Surge and Shield proficiency which is useful to get if you want a better AC.

    I find myself in a bit of a pickle choosing how to go with my multiclass.
    I'm basically playing BG3 as a stealth game right now, so the out of combat advantages of assassin are very important, but arguably of equal importance is being able to cast illusion to draw enemies away from each other to take them out quietly (and hopefully quickly).
    Invisibility looked very appealing and I hate being spotted with dark vision, so I went with warlock to get greater invisibility and devil's sight to try and counter it.
    Problem is I'm not sure that's the best way to do things for my playstyle, on top of the fact that this overview basically says that the magic classes are only any good with arcane trickster. So I feel kind of stuck.

    You keep comparing all the spellcaster options to going Arcane Trickster and generally saying a spellcaster rogue is better off going Arcane Trickster. But AT is just gimped and honestly bad in the game currently. Mage Hand Legerdemain doesn't work, neither as advertised in the game description nor when compared to 5E RAW. You can't use it to lockpick steal etc.
    That's the whole flavor (or class action) of the subclass and without it you really are better off just doing some research on a spellcaster multiclass build for a rogue if you want to be a Spellthief.
    If you're a rogue with high charisma sorc bard warlock works great.
    Gloomstalker/Thief with high wis and Ranger magic works well too.
    Of course if you want a more traditional Arcane Trickster Spellthief type, just multiclass into thief / wizard and trade the gimped AT Mage Hand Legerdemain for extra bonus actions as thief, and the ability to prepare spells and learn scrolls as wiz...
    AT is 1/3 spellcaster without the bonus action of thief. In actual DnD they make up for that with the flavor and utility of the Mage Hand Legerdemain. Without a properly working Mage Hand Legerdemain; literally anything is a better option for a spellcaster rogue build. I know this game is about the roleplay not builds, but the Mage Hand Legerdemain is 90% of the roleplay of the Arcane Trickster, ie how you find creative ways to use the hand. It really is just a bad subclass without that flavor and ability. You can even take the regular Mage Hand as a wiz cantrip and other than not being permanent it has the exact same level of utility.... I respeced as Thief Wiz and have had much more utility being able to swap and prepare spells at will when out of combat, and the bonus thief actions make him much better in combat. Would recommend over Arcane Trickster for both combat and roleplaying purposes for any players looking to make a "Spellthief" style.

  • @senexiratus973
    @senexiratus973 9 месяцев назад

    Really good video. Getting 16 wis isn't hard for a non-face rogue, so cleric is a more viable choice than I think you give it credit for if you want divine casting on your rogue. I appreciate your effort to make druid look viable, but druid just gets hurt by rogue and doesn't give anything but flavor to it. It's a good 1 level dip on any class for a discount with Aaron the merchant, and to save Kagha and get a reward, but you'd re-spec out fairly early.
    Arcane Trickster has a valuable level 9 skill, impose disadvantage on saves when casting from hiding, Since replacement spells are from full wizard list now, this subclass isn't complete garbage as a flavor choice, but still only good for flavor. If the mage hand could at least reinvis, it might be legitimately good, cause a semi-permanent mage hand that doesn't aggro would be useful.
    EK is not a bad choice with a dual-wielding rogue, especially since you need the 2w fighting style now for both melee and ranged. You could primarily play ranged with x-bows, but all daggers have the thrown property, and there are some unique effects you could apply. Not your usual attack, but let's say you equip the sussur dagger as an example. It's available before you start seeing arcane interference arrows. Don't even need TB, cause it wouldn't be your normal attack. Round goes like this. throw dagger for (pick your effect), action surge, normal SA/ranged stuff or retry applying effect. Put the generally useless str club in your offhand for a good to hit chance when you do throw, and you've got a build, As a bonus you get some utility spell casting. So EK with Assassin or thief. Silly with AT, but AT is silly. Granted, the strategy could be better used on a real EK throwing build, but it wouldn't be horrible for a rogue. There are many times when you're blocked or just out of range from SA, where a throw would work and probably do better than a normal bow attack as an action.
    Monk is a bad choice for rogue, You don't get enough without monk being the better choice. 1 level for dexterous offhand choices with a level of fighter for 2w fighting style might be ok for melee. You can't SA with offhand as far as I know, so it opens up light weapons that aren't finesse in the offhand, or pretty much anything in offhand with dual-wield feat.
    Rogue is a good choice for monk. Looking forward to your monk video.
    1 level of sorcerer for tempestuous magic is good. Any more for sorcerer might be ok for a 9/3 AT, but wizard makes more sense for more. Warlock is pretty bad. You drop dex (ranged attacks). Your logic on wizard is solid, but only for AT.

  • @jacob6885
    @jacob6885 9 месяцев назад

    For Warlock-Rogue, the evocation Devil Sight allows you to see through magical darkness.
    Any melee enemies will be bl8nded by the darkness granting the advantage needed to sneak attack, Aldo inflicting disadvantage to avoid being hit.
    Ranged enemies tend to wait outside, but you get "attacking from shadows" for the advantage you need there too
    Sometimes they game won't retrigger that condition unless you move or hide between attacks
    You get the evocation at Warlock 2, and at Warlock 3 you can cast the darkness yourself.
    No charisma investment required for this tactic. See spells below for charisma free spell selection
    Select Mage Armor for the other evocation, minor illusion, mage hand, or blade ward for the cantrip, and for spells sleep, expedious retreat, and/or hex (for times darkness wont work)
    Yes, you give up 1 or 2 d6 sneak attack, but darkness benefits make for a similar trade-off to reckless attack, but without the risk

    In my current playthrough Astarion is Lvl. 11 (5 Gloom Stalker Ranger/4 Thief Rogue/2 Fighter) dual wielding Hand Crossbows. With Patch 4 having nerfed Hand Crossbows (probably justified), I'm considering respecting to 3 Assassin Rogue/4 Battle Master Fighter. Has anyone used this build, and, if so, what Bow did you use, and how would you rate it compared to the alternatives? Good review.

      4/6/2 Thief/Sword Bard/Fighter. Sword bard get two weapon fighting style and fighter can get archery. Lacking misty step maybe a problem, but not so a big problem, there's a lot equips with misty step/fly/etc or just simply take the half-ceremorphosis form. Or even just do 4/6/1/1 rogue/bard/fighter/wiz and get int to 14, so you can prepare misty step, haste and shield.

      @@stefenleung flourish is not a thing you can spam all day tho, one action surge then you out of inspiration charges. if go raw dmg gloom stalker assassin is more stable, maybe pure ranger hunter, for melee it would be shadow monk assassin. i think the best build for sword bard is debuff control, fast arcane acuity stack for 100% hold person / hold monster then your paladin/fighter bang every bosses in 1 turn.

      you might consider 7 thief/5 hunter, with horde breaker speciality. it is much more brawler style than blaster but it is thematically accurate and quite powerfull. or 5 thief/5 hunter/2 fighter thus got 2 fighting styles, action surge, but a bit lower sneak attack bonus. i really like horde breaker skill, it's not broken OP but with a bit of CC you can pull it off quite often

      that's correct but so do any "damage" builds. they all speak "burst" damage. it's also true you wont need 2nd turn for the most fights.
      also I dont think gloom stalker assassin is different tho. you only do damage on the first round.

    • @marekw7562
      @marekw7562 9 месяцев назад +1

      you can... you can smite with finesse weapon, just mark "ask" in reaction tab for "sneak attack", provide advantage for smite by any means like the risky ring or attacking prone enemy and here you go... 2d8 radiant + 4d6 sneak + whatever you use on weapon. in act 3 you can buy a dancing breeze from one dragonborn that is the only 2-handed finesse weapon in the game, thus you can add a feat for +10 dmg... have a blast my friend.

    Can you actually go up to lvl 3 Rogue to get Assassin then lvls 4, 5 & 6 Ranger to get Gloomstalker and then go back to lvling up Rogue again or are you stuck with Ranger once you switch classes the first time?

    • @MogwaiInjustice
      @MogwaiInjustice 6 месяцев назад +1

      You can go back and forth with whatever levels you want or even add additional classes. I will say 3 ranger/9 rogue isn't a good split. I'd rather get the feat with a 4 ranger/8 rogue split or if giving up that feat with 5 ranger you get the extra attack and extra attack is HUGE.

Your constant repeating of this phrase ("in my opinion") made it a chore to get thru and was really distracting, eyes rolling to the back of my head when I wanted to focus on your points. Isn't it obvious that this is _your_ opinion given that you are the person who is making this video? How many times must you remind us?
