My uncle (Dad's younger brother) created and owned this place. We lived in Indianapolis and I remember going to Fort Wayne a lot to visit my uncles, aunt, and grandparent who all lived there. It started out as a restaurant, arcade, and a small dirt bike track about 1983. In a few years, he added a go cart track, a pool, and a few slides. By the late 80's he added the large slides and more pools. He and his wife fell in love with Disney World and moved to Orlando in 1990 and never came back. He lost interest in it and walk away from it about 1992. Its hard to believe he never had any liability insurance during the entire time and nobody got seriously hurt. Its also hard to believe that a water park could exist in that climate! It was an awesome part of my family's history I will never forget!

That is a fascinating story! Thanks for sharing. I think this answers a lot of questions about why the park suddenly closed. It was a fun place to go spend an afternoon with friends. It also had one of the best commercial jingles anywhere. If you happen to know who wrote it, I think a lot of people would be interested on that story as well.

@@daclark100 I asked him this past weekend, he hired a communications company who wrote it and produced the commercial.

Ask him his thoughts on reviving it as an indoor Waterpark, would he be interested if someone from Fort Wayne reached out.. I'm sure someone is looking for him.

      Hello!
We are currently working on making a short mini documentary about Diamond Jim's. If I submitted some questions would your Uncle be willing to answer them? Also, any photos of the park/including park maps?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I recently found a Diamond Jim's Token and encased into brass as a Vintage treasures. If you'd like to see the final brassmithed necklace let me know! Thank you so much for the information on it.

Thank you so much for this. I was with someone yesterday who grew up in Fort Wayne their whole life and thought i was making this place up. I'm from Marion and can vivodly remember coming here as a kid in the late 80s-early 90s. Last time we tried to go must've been when they abruptly closed. We pulled up and a crumbly lonely leaf was going down one of the water slides. 😢😅
The next summer my family started going to Pine Lake in Berne.

RUclips amazes me. What are the chances I would find this commercial on here? The first time I saw it was during an episode of SNL that was taped on Betamax.
