In the game, it also cuts away when Henry puts the gun to himself, but it cuts to black with kind of an eerie music note. Changing it to see Ellie's face and her horrified ghasp was a really excellent addition. They're being really thoughtful about the things they add. The show is great.

Honestly, I like the way they did it here better than the game. Sam revealing he's infected to Ellie and her revealing she's "infected" makes their bond a lot stronger and impactful when we see what happens, and they still manage to include the scenes where they reveal their greatest fears. It also plays into Ellie's character because spoilers. Also, the infected scene was 11/10 and made up for the lack of infected in the last 2 episodes. I'm also happy we got to see the bloater's signature, er, "move" this episode.
    Spoiler:
It played into Ellie's character cause it ties in perfectly with how she originally got infected, with her and Riley promising to just wait out the infection and turn together, except of course Ellie never turns, and how it haunts her throughout the game.

True, both tv show and game were great. My points in Tv show provides compassion of Ellie which added her resolve but the game Sam death scene is a bit more of touch. I’m happy with those things too. But I personally found Kathleen to be the worst edition so far. She just didn’t work for me at all, and took away story and dialogue that could have added more impact and bonding for Henry, Sam, Ellie and Joel. (Especially between Henry and Joel compared to the game) Even the story of Ish (Which is by far the best side story in the whole franchise) was not even told here, but hinted at instead. Just to make way for… Kathleen…. I personally wanted to get more of that story then anything related to Kathleen, who seems very boring and one note. She just didn’t have enough depth or impact as she should have had imo. Didn’t work for me at all. But Henry and Sam were so damn good that again, I wanted more of them then this boring “villain”.

@@snoopdoggydogg94 I'm going to disagree a bit because a constant "series vs videogame" theme is that no one is an outright evil person, they're only "evil" because of fear, delusions, past experiences. Kathleen does fit perfectly in that theme, even just this single episode's themes about Sam and Henry. I'm not going to say the KAthleen character works for everybody, but as I've never played the game (or seen any screencast) I wasn't expecting her to be any other way, and it's consistent from scenes in Boston, where both Fireflies, and FEMDA people and everyone else is doing what they think needs to be done to survive.

@@brandonarmienti7734 In the game from the moment Ellie and Sam meet they are having fun and messing around. Smiling and laughing. You have the scene with the toy and you miss the maybe total 2 hours with them in game for much less than that. Except they cover less than what 50 minutes was in the game.
The sewers/tunnels had so many cool moments of character building. Being Joel with Sam was awesome when the group gets split. The moment with the bridge and the sniper town. Going through the houses talking about fire flies and playing darts. They some how took a sequence with so much characterisation and came out with next to none.
My overall problem is the episode relies on you feeling sad for an 8 year old boy turning ... Where as in the game he was as old as ellie and even people who didn't like kids could connect they were similar people and if you wanted ellie to survive you wanted Sam. But the episode just didn't understand what the game accomplished and ruined it all.
The sniper scene was tense in the game because you thought anyone could die at any moment. You lose that threat as soon as you have 100 clickers and infected running around instantly. The bloated was handled much better in game (Not school that was bad) but in the hotel sequence. They shoulld've mimiced that. The scene just felt stupid, I was cringing at everything going on. Smaller scale action would've worked better especially if it played out similarly to the game, so in the day light and once joel has the sniper has to deal with Kathleens men and infected running at them.

When Sam reached out for a hug with Henry, then with Ellie…😢 That bond felt so real.
This was also the first time when I felt relieved when the infected showed up, like the cavalry showing up to rescue our heroes from the true threat. I really, really did not want Kathleen to kill or torture Henry. She might be the least sympathetic character we’ve seen so far, and I think it’s because she’s fully aware that she’s done monstrous things and that her own brother wouldn’t even condone her actions, yet not even that could stop her…The difference between her and the other characters is that she’s not trying to save anyone, just to kill. So her dying by clicker was honestly satisfying.

I think not seeing Henry kill himself was the right choice here. All we needed was Ellie's face, and the blood from Sam. That, in and of itself, was horrifying enough. The point was to emphasize a young boy's death and the affect it had on the brother; the gruesomeness of Sam's death and the awful realization Joel had about him and Ellie being like the two of them was the primary focus.

I like how Henry's choice to save Sam by ratting out Kathleen's brother ended up being the destructive and "wrong" choice in the end. Very interesting indeed.
The characters in the episode talked about Kathleen's brother like he was a saint, a great leader who can lead them to freedom and greatness, and I believe that had he lived, that would've been the case. The Revolutionary under Kathleen is a ruthless organization just like FEDRA before them. They are also led by a woman who is blinded by vengeance. That short-sightness led to the complete wipeout of the entire community by the infected at the end.
But imagine if Henry had let Sam die and chose to support Kathleen's brother instead. With both Kathleen and Michael as co-leaders, the revolution would definitely succeed but with a much kinder approach to their enemies. Remember that Kathleen's brother Michael asked her to forgive Henry moments before his death. It would stand to reason that he would've forgiven all the collaborators and FEDRA agents who surrendered. With that, they would have a much stronger community and armed force. And with a capable leader not blinded by bloodlust, they would've been able to discover the nest of Infected underground and either dealt with it or moved somewhere else to avoid it.
The alternate "what-if" timeline where Henry did not betray the revolutionaries is the better reality, but Henry chose family over the world.
Those who've played the game, I think we can all see what they're doing here. Simply a brilliant adaptation.
