    I think what I got from this is that Joel has compartmentalized his trauma for 20 years, never allowing himself to properly mourn for Sarah. But this journey, traveling with Ellie, being responsible for her, it's been really forcing him to deal with it. I think that's what he's going through in Jackson, asking Tommy is a last ditch effort to avoid opening the box he doesn't want to open. It's really just too late though.

    • @dcworld4349
      @dcworld4349 Год назад +5

      I love this addition of actually letting you see him allow himself to crack. The game isn't worse for it, and it's understandable as to why Joel is the way he is in the game from a narrative and gameplay perspective. You are so wrapped in wanting to protect Ellie while playing so besides Sarah's death he can never let's himself be this vulnerable. One isn't worse than the other because you have to do what works in each medium. I'm just saying the most tense scene for me in this story in either version was this dog. Because you see Joel that you are so used to being this tank, is completely helpless, scared and even though I know that moment wasn't the end, it made me feel his fear more than any infected scene ever could.

He's finally in Jackson, he has his baby brother right in front of him, he's gonna be an uncle, and he's out here trying not to feel this child he's risking life and limb to protect and he just can't take it. this episode broke my heart, pedro & bella did an amazing job both recreating scenes from the game and adding new depth to the characters in the scenes that werent in the game 😭 the set for the town was great and tommy & maria's actors did great too. i woulda liked to see more of the university just bc that level was so fun in the game but i appreciate how they are condensing everything more to focus on character moments in the show

    I can't get over how Bella sounds in real life (British accent) compared to the show. It's just amazing how well some actors are able to do this (unlike some others like Vin Diesel or The Rock who always play themselves). Props to her!

    LOU is showing our heroes broken and human without any powers at all, THAT for me speaks volumes of an era of superheroes that act like magical beings with no soul at all. Thank you for making such powerful statement that even the manliest and more powerful can also be the most vulnerable human being.

    Pedro Pascal was outstanding, Bella Ramsey was very good too but this was a very Joel episode, we get to delve deeper into his trauma and he's obviously suffering from post traumatic disorder, not just over Sarah but the things he had to do to survive. But mostly Sarah that's something he will never recover from and being near Tommy again and getting closer to Ellie who's becoming a daughter to him is triggering his trauma, he's afraid of losing the only people he has left and so when that lady tells him about Tommy dying he has his first panic attack then again when he fears for Ellie, he's getting pretty old and he's tired and afraid and traumatized, he can't even process the fact that he's going to be an uncle because it reminds him of how he lost Sarah.
    I liked the changes, some stuff was straight from the game other stuff was different and there were references to TLOU Part II.

    I LOVE how they make Joel human and vulnerable in the show, with his fear of failure and ageing. I'd like to think that 'Game Joel' is the way Bella's Ellie sees Pedro's Joel, in the way that kids look up to their parents: the brave protector with the perfect aim and practically invincible - after all, he can just respawn whenever he dies, right?
    Whereas the truth is that he's much more human that that, but it's maybe this idea of that unstoppable player-character Joel that will drive her forward in Season 2.
    Interesting here that they mention that "Joel wants to save everyone" - like a certain character at the start of Part 2/Season 2. Wow that is all going to hit so hard on screen!
