- A fellow Yamaha THR10X owner requested George Lynch's Lynch Mob tone from the Wicked Sensation album.
I listened to the isolated guitar track from the song Wicked Sensation and tried my best to replicate the tone and the double-tracking. • George Lynch - Wicked ...
With the Yamaha THR10X, my usual starting point for 80s style tones tends to be the Brown I amp paired with the Fuel 4x12 cabinet. Then, I adjusted the Gain, Master, and EQ until I was happy with the result.
The biggest surprise was how little gain is used on the album track, but the tone still sounds fat and aggressive. Because of the low amount of Master, I needed to drastically increase the track gain in Audacity recording software.
I recorded two main rhythm guitar tracks with exactly the same settings, one panned 50% left and one panned 50% right in Audacity, playing exactly the same thing.
Yamaha THR Editor software settings are shown at the beginning and end of the video.

Guitar: 2009 Charvel USA Production Model So-Cal. Bridge pickup: DiMarzio Tone Zone. Only the bridge pickup was used to record this video. I keep this guitar tuned down one semitone and it matches the original Lynch Mob recording.
Loving your tones! Any chance of an Adrian Smith live tone for the THR10X? Thinking more of his modern tone but 80s is more than adequate, its amazing how he had his own sound but it blends so well with the rest of the band
Thank you! I have stopped chasing artist tones. I do have several Maiden tone videos uploaded on my channel and I recognize that Maiden's live tone doesn't always sound like their studio album tones, but maybe they could be a starting point. Best of luck!
Nice, that was really close, brother! I was lucky enough to hear this live the very first time they ever played out at The Mason Jar in Phoenix. They didn't go by the Lynch Mob, they used another name and only us musicians and their family and friends knew about it. The name was NOT a PC name at all, lmao, but the acronym was the GBNBFC (maybe you can look it up). HAHAHAHA!! Oni used to call me his "Little brother" so he handed me the mic during the chorus of River of Love, so I sang with the Lynch Mob the very first time they played out, which is insane to type, lol. Georges' sound was unreal, like always, and I am not sure what you could do to get any closer, maybe a hair more gain? Anyway, you pretty much nailed it, awesome job, brother! - Kevin Venture 🤘
Thanks for the kind words and the great story! Unfortunately I couldn't find anything for GBNBFC on Google but I imagine there's a story behind that too!
The funny thing is that I started off with far more gain than that (the THR10X amp has a lot available, and I've used a lot more on every video I've published so far) and felt like I got close but no cigar. Something kept bugging me about the tone I dialed... and then I decided to experiment with less gain for once in my life. That seemed to be the ticket! I'm sure the final result can be further fine-tuned if I had the time, but feel free to use it as a starting point and adjust to your heart's desire. :)
Thanks man.
Excellent sound very well played, when you use it as an interface do you hear it through the Yamaha speakers or external monitors? Greetings
Thanks! I hear the guitar sound through the amp's speakers. I haven't been able to figure out how to route the sound output to my computer speakers or external monitors.
@@axeltune2128 Thank you I needed that answer I think you get one. Do you prefer this Yamaha or an audio interface ??? Thanks again
@ I don't own a dedicated audio interface so I cannot compare. Since the Yamaha THR amps act as an interface, I have no need to buy a dedicated interface :)
