Hey man great playing! I am reaching out to you, because I noticed that out of all the guys on youtube you are doing the Yamaha THR JUSTICE. Great playing and tone, but I have a question, is there a difference between THR10X and the THR10II. Some says that the X series tones can be found in the THRII. I am asking because I ahve an opportunity to get a THR10X from a local shop that still has some left for sale. Can you please advice me what is best? I only play hard rock and metal. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words. Check out www.youtube.com/@CameronCooper and www.youtube.com/@sachabaptista, two other frequent users of the THR10X that sound great and play well. I believe Cameron has largely progressed to the THR30ii and still getting great tones. I myself have not played any of the second series amps so I cannot comment. I've seen some users on the Facebook groups facebook.com/groups/280533238782243 and facebook.com/groups/1947149545531265 mention how the second series doesn't quite replicate the first series even if that was the intent of the designers. Try the THR10X and buy it if you like it because Yamaha no longer offers it.
i have a problem with this settings I am playing oon ibanez with tgr10x but i can not reach your sound(((
Sounds so awesome! Do you have the preset?
Thank you. I never saved the preset which is why I show a photo of the settings at the beginning and end of the video.
Thanks for playing and also for sharing your Yamaha amp settings, I was struggling to find that clean sharp Maiden sound! I really like how easy you make it look, I’m at a half soeed skill level, this is perfect sounding. \m/ I would love to hear other Iron pieces that you enjoy playing! Best! \m/
Wow, i've heard alot of complains that the katana can't handle high gain well, now i don't know what to believe!

@@axeltune2128 what are your personal thoughts on it?
@@onsentd I only kept the Katana for a short period before selling it, so I'm not an authority on it. But, the tone I got for this video satisfied me and I have no doubt the Katana can handle a wide range of scenarios, including high gain.

Loving your tones! Any chance of an Adrian Smith live tone for the THR10X? Thinking more of his modern tone but 80s is more than adequate, its amazing how he had his own sound but it blends so well with the rest of the band
Thank you! I have stopped chasing artist tones. I do have several Maiden tone videos uploaded on my channel and I recognize that Maiden's live tone doesn't always sound like their studio album tones, but maybe they could be a starting point. Best of luck!
Great playing and setting up that tone it sounds so close! I just bought one of these amps and will try your settings for sure, thx!!
Nice playing! Any reason you switch from the THR10x to the regular version? Thanks!
Thank you! I have the THR10, THR10X, and THR10C. Last year I loaned out the THR10X, which gave me the chance to get more familiar with the THR10. The THR10X was recently returned to me but I became so accustomed to the THR10 that I kept going with it. I really should rotate the amps and spend similar time getting acquainted with the THR10C as well.
Dude you rock
That was woeful 🤣
Heck yeah!

settings ?
Hello, the settings are shown at the beginning and end of the video! Enjoy!
Nice cover! Between the Yamaha THR10 and the Boss Katana 50, for home use, what do you prefer the most ? I´m looking for the best quality sound, but i'm not familiar with these amps.
Either would work well in a home environment. The THR can be extremely quiet, and the Katana has a 0.5W mode to achieve very quiet volumes. Personally I prefer using the THR which makes it very easy to record to a computer but both units are very versatile and "sound good" to me. Pick the right tool for your job. 🙂
Orange crush 35rt or Katana 50?
I have not tried the Orange Crush 35rt so I cannot make a fair judgment. 🙂
The katana 50 by a LANDSLIDE! The crush 35 sounds kinda like a 10 watt practice amp honestly. It sounds a bit thin and even the drive channel is voiced weird. I'd DEFINITELY go with the katana. Although, the orange crush 60 is FANTASTIC and sounds wonderful! I'd still go with the katana personally.
So did you go for the katana or the orange?
I don't know about the 35rt sounding like a 10 watt amp or sounding thin. LMAO. I have the 35rt. I bought it since I can't use my heads and cabs in my new place. I bought it online since it caught my eye and can be a practice amp. The moment it arrived and tried it, it's freaking loud. Not enough as my practice amp. So I settled with the Orange Crush 12. But I still kept my 35. It sounds good. Very good amp plus the effects loop in there is pretty useful. Can't go wrong with it. It can be played with a drummer and can do gigs with it. Best amplifier for the budget. After rocking and loving my 35rt for 3 years, I bought a Katana 100 as a main gigging amp. My Heads and Cabs are a drag when travelling. Katana 100 is just as good as everyone reviewed it. Love it. Verdict. Orange 35rt is loud, can take pedals well and overall sounds great. Is it on par/equal with the Katana? Yes it is. But both of them pales in comparison with my H&K's, Marshalls and Blackstar heads. Orange Crush, Katana and Roland Jazz Chorus are the best Solid State amps. Can't live without them.
Tho I would take the 35RT over Katana 50 because of the effects loop. Katana 100 over 35rt because it has more power. But like I said, you can't go wrong with 35RT. Get them both if you like!
Great cover dude!! Watching the original changed my life lol, gonna learn it from you
It’s only good if your in standard tuning. I get a shit ton of feed back when I down tune, and it DOES NOT TAKE PEDALS well like advertised. None of my noise gates work.
Apparently if you connect your Katana to your computer, you can access a hidden noise gate. I haven't tried so I'm not sure how to approach it. Let me know if you try and it works for you!
Only good for standard tuning? Where have you heard that? Also takes pedals very well. Have you tried pedals with it?
Changing your tuning doesn’t increase feedback. How would that even work?
@@leoncorbett4553yea that's a nonsense thing tunings have nothing to do with feedback lol check your guitar output jack or something dirty knobs or something 😅
Where's your whammy bar dude?
If the song doesn't require the bar, I don't need to attach the bar to the guitar. 🤷♂️
@@axeltune2128 good point. I just got this amp today. Have you tried the recording feature yet?
@@Dime_time333 I've procrastinated so hard on this amp and still have not gotten around to recording with it. It's weird, I get the most engagement from RUclips on my one Katana video even though I am primarily a Yamaha THR user. Maybe I should switch camps because maybe the Katana is where all the action is. 😅
To thin but still sounds good to scooped to my ears you can play at least
I'm kinda late but is it too loud for a bedroom Amp?
I think the 0.5W mode is appropriate for bedroom levels!
@@axeltune2128 ok thanks u so much
@@axeltune2128 oh lastly if u put the wat at 25 and the volume down is it still good for a bedroom
@@orestmyl That might work, but I would still recommend the 0.5W mode for bedroom volumes. It's available for us to enjoy, so it deserves to be used in its most appropriate scenarios, such as very low volumes.
Use headphones 🎧.
👍🎸
So Ive been thinking on getting the Thr30ii but its $500. I want a practice amp, I had a THR10 and I loved it cause it was there next to my bed so I practiced a lot. I want a practice amp and also an amp that can allow me record in good quality. I also have a Marshall Half stack that I use to play live with my band but sometimes I have some acoustic Duet shows and I cant use the Marshall since its too loud so I was thinking Katana would be great, but the Thr30ii has line outs so that takes me to the confusion again. Which amp would you recomend?? It will be my practice and recording amp but also could be my low volume gigs' amp.
I haven't tried the Katana in a gig/jam setting but I think it would be well suited for that. IE - THR for home practice and recording, your half stack where you need volume and power, and the Katana would bridge the gap and even overlap some of the functions of the THR and half stack maybe depending on context. I'm purely a home player so the THR is the tool I use for that need.
Boss katana has way more tone options and can handle home use as well as gig use. As well as recording. Its my go to for allll
This or blackstar idcore 40 v3?????
Unfortunately I have never tried a Blackstar amp before, so I am unable to compare.
So what booster setting are you using? Because I see a green light there, but the knob is turned off :o
I was using the yellow-light booster, not the green one. The knob is a dual stacked knob; the bottom knob is on part of the way for the yellow boost, while the top knob is off. Hope that helps! :)
Amazing, but how did you remove the amps buzzing and hissing? When I put mine in crunch/lead/brown or add gain/booster it hisses very loudly
I will admit that it's a noisy amp at high gain settings, especially with a booster engaged. I didn't do anything special to remove the amp noise, aside from simply relying on technique, trying to mute (using my hands) where possible. I am told that connecting the amp to a computer via USB cable allows accessing hidden features such as a noise gate, which is exactly what we want. However, I haven't gotten around to exploring this yet.
@@axeltune2128 Thanks. Is this normal for amps to be that noisy or is it only the katana that does that? Or are other amps (such as Yamaha THR10) much quieter on high gain settings and with boosters engaged compared to the katana??
@@derminator95 Some amps are inherently noisy. The THR can be noisy with high gain too (see my first video posted with it where I play The Trooper by Iron Maiden and listen to the string noise that I failed to dampen with my hands) so I primarily play it using the THR Editor software which has a noise gate feature. The THR doesn't have an on-board booster feature nor does the THR Editor software :)
It might help to lower the power
@@Moneymakinshark-dawg I use it on 0.5w and its still unusabaly noisy. :(
Sounds amazing! Does it sound as good at a level you can speak to someone else? Like bedroom practice level? or is the THR10/THR30 better for that purpose?
With the settings seen in the video, the volume "in the room" is at a level where I can still talk comfortably over the amp without having to shout. You'll notice the Amplifier Volume knob on the left is at between 1-2 o' clock and the Master Volume knob on the right is between 11-12 o' clock. So there is plenty of leeway to go up and down in loudness at the 0.5W mode. Even at whisper-level volumes, it sounds pretty consistent! Even at 25W and 50W modes, you can still get whisper-level volumes but the tone doesn't seem to sound as "full" or "pushed" like the 0.5W mode cranked up a bit. And of course, the Yamaha THR amps are also capable of great tones at very low volumes.
@@axeltune2128 thanks for the reply, if you were to keep only one which one would you keep? Thr or katana?
@@luisgarciaalanis I think it depends on the situation. If you need to perform live, the Katana is the better choice. The THR is meant as a "desktop amp", which is very suitable for me since I almost always play guitar when sitting at my computer.
@@axeltune2128 o

@@axeltune2128 Thank you I needed that answer I think you get one. Do you prefer this Yamaha or an audio interface ??? Thanks again

@@axeltune2128 thats a pity, thanks anyways. Good luck!

It definitely doesn’t sound like Jon’s tone. Too much gain and not enough bottom end punch or high end attack. Schafer’s tone is incredibly tough to achieve unless you get his Larry rig! I’ve gotten close with an amp sim and and a couple of IR’s but it’s not quite there still.
How well does it do with alternative metal like AIC ?
I haven't tried, but I am certain it would be fine for that, given how versatile the Katana amps are in general.
Axel Tune alright, thinking of picking up a 50 and plugging a Friedman OD pedal on it.
Brown channel with low to mid gain is perfect for that Dirt tone like on dam that river
Very cool tone! Mr. Schaffer would be proud. I've never seen pickups like that. Looks like a some sort of hybrid of passive and active
Interesting observation! I can confirm that they are passive pickups.
