I always wonder how people that say get rid of taxes think things that society needs will be paid for. I could definitely see cutting spending in some areas and lowering the taxes, but I think it would be really hard to get rid of them completely. An example I think of is the roads, if they needed repair where would the money come from? If you think privatize road maintenance, how would the private company make money to just survive. You couldn't ask the government to pay for it because they aren't receiving any tax money to do so. You couldn't ask citizens to pay for it because that would be similar to a tax.

It's disingenuous to ask a young adult about a subject that has so much nuance and treat his answer as pure truth. Voter id isn't inherently racist... that's not what anybody is actually saying. What they are saying is that voter id laws have been shown to disproportionately affect minority groups. A simple search of "how voter id laws disproportionately burden minorities" will pull up a bunch of papers discussing this topic. It has been shown to be so in the court of law for Christ sake and the only reason they got through is a conservative court decided that the voting rights act should be gutted What *is* racist is that there has been no proof of widespread voter fraud in this country and yet legislators keep trying to pass these laws. They have full knowledge that this is a solution in search of a problem, that the people mostly affected are the people aren't likely to vote for them, and that by doing so they are helping to keep these minorities down. That is racist, definitionally. They are intentionally propping up the dominance of one majority ethnic group over other ethnic groups. Irregardless of race we're talking about abridging people's most fundamental rights. My brother didn't have an ID for years, but he is an American citizen and has a *right* to participate. The homeless people I see on the street corner don't have id by virtue of their situation, but they have a *right* to participate. That disabled person who doesn't have a need to drive may not have an id. Do we only allow those that drive or have bills to pay as an alternative evidence the right to vote? Why don't we just reinstate pool taxes while we're at it, eh?
Fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration form and check which applies no DL, no BC, disability, work schedule conflict, family responsibilities, photo ID stolen/lost or applied for ID replacement but haven't received it yet And many other ways to be able to vote without a DL. You can look it up for your state as I did for more info.
