How Not to Die, Michael Greger, 2015
People do not (ever) die from "old age".
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16079...
"Most deaths in the United States are preventable, and they are related to what we eat. Our diet is the number one cause of death and the number one cause of disability."

For most of the leading causes of death, our genes account for only 10-20% of the risk at most.

Dean Ornish Lifestyle Heart Trial proved with quantitative angiography the regression of heart disease - people's arteries opened up without drugs or surgery.

Caldwell Esselstyn went on to show the same thing - heart disease can be reversed with a strict plant based diet
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25198...
In Western countries, heart disease is our number one killer. But in other countries like Uganda, heart disease is almost non-existent.

Berries also help to regulate our blood sugar and insulin response, helping to keep our blood sugar more stable.

Flaxseeds, just 30g per day, have been shown to lower high blood pressure more effectively than leading drugs, as shown in a randomised, placebo-controlled, double blind prospective trial.

My cholesterol was 284...after 3 months on plant based diet - down 50 pts to 231. 🙂 Can't wait to find what the next three months brings!!!
Great news! Massive well done, that's fantastic! 👏
Just downloaded the audio book so I can listen to it when I’m out walking. Dr. Greger is my hero. I listen to all his RUclips vids.
He's great isn't he? The book is cool because it goes deeper than many of his videos too 👍
Great summation Ryan. I've been living a WFPB lifestyle for nearly nineteen years & whole heartedly agree with Dr. Greger whom I've been following for quite some time now. However, I still need to read his book. Even though I eat this way it can be real tough to incorporate all the foods he recommends in a day. I use his app as a guide but I often fall short in some areas (e.g., not getting quite enough exercise or I can't seem to get three servings of legumes in, etc.) so if you haven't already, a video illustrating how you achieve this or strive to achieve this would be both helpful & interesting.
Thanks for your comment, really insightful. Great video idea, I'll do that! For what it's worth, I think it's pretty tough to eat the Daily Dozen consistently exactly as described, but I tend to use it as a good guideline to remind myself to incorporate different foods that have great health benefits 😊
New subscriber 😃. Thank you, Ryan! Looking forward to checking out your ideas on how to fit in the daily dozen and your future vid’s.
You're very welcome, thanks for subscribing! That's a great idea - I'll make a video about how I try to incorporate the Daily Dozen into my lifestyle 😊
I love people who are passionate about eating vegan food for health and longevity. 💚
Thanks so much, seems like I'm in good company 😀
I hope this video gives you a few insights into How Not to Die!

Ryan, what about B 12 ?
Great question. I discuss B12 in this video at the 8:00 minute mark ruclips.net/video/7a0YHWkj2tA/видео.html

I suggest you to read Outlive by Dr. Peter Attia. Dr. Greger sometimes cherry picks his research and makes some exaggerations, and many of the studies don't isolate the variable of a plant based diet. Yes diet is important and most people would surely benefit from more plants in their diet. But exercise is the most powerful way to extend health span and avoiding meat entirely has serious risks with protein deficiency.
I'll add Outlive to my reading list! Dr. Attia always strikes me as a great guy in the health space in the interviews I've seen him in.
@@growingpure a counter point. Have you heard of anyone having a protein deficiency? Meat is unnecessary. And unethical. And is a main cause to global warming.
I agree 100%. There are so many millions of people around the world who don't eat any meat and are in great health that it's hard to see protein deficiency being a real risk. As you say, I've never met anyone with protein deficiency. But cancer, heart disease and diabetes? Sadly I've known all too many people that have suffered terribly with these diseases.
@@growingpure come back after reading Dr. Attia's book. Protein deficiency is a serious concern especially in older years
I appreciate your comment 👍 I'll certainly go away and continue researching this. I can't pretend to have all the answers, but I'll do my best to get closer to the truth 🙂
Everyone considering to buy his book should have a good look at Greger first, he's only 50 and looks like he's about to d...
This is only one side of the coin.
On the other side Carnivore diet has its own scientific papers defending it. It all depends what you read. So dont take very seriously.
