This is a good video and some solid advice. Let's face it, to have a rig like that you need 3 things: A lot of space, A lot of money, and a very understanding Significant Other. For me personally while I could afford it I have a small house and a wife that is understanding within reason, but not to this extent lol. I get by just fine with my < $1000 setup consisting of a Quest 2, a Thrustmaster T-150, and a Playseat Challenge. Ok the pedals suck and I'm working on upgrading those, but other than that I'm pretty happy with it. Jumping from a single 24" to 3x 32" was the best thing i ever did for my rig tbh. Nowhere near as extreme as your rig, but still provides an incredibly immersive experience. From 65cm away, i don't find the vertical resolution is much of an issue. My only 2 complaints are the footprint (takes 1.4x1.5m), and the fact that i need a top of the line GPU in this market.
Just ordered some LG C1 55s, can’t wait to try it out! I used the Reverb G2 for quite a while and the 3D effect is incredibly immersive. My issue with it was 1) not being able to see my steering wheel, shifter, button box, extra dash screens, etc really broke immersion as the physical world you’re interacting with wasn’t the same as the VR world and 2) by far the biggest issue for me personally - the headset was uncomfortable for anything longer than maybe 20-30 minutes. For whatever reason, my face and neck hurt no matter what I did and I found myself no longer looking forward to hopping into the cockpit. I swapped out to a single 34” curved ultrawide and immediately the love was back. As you mentioned though, the vertical FOV was much too small, and tbh the width was much too small as well. At realistic FOVs in game I could not see my mirrors, cars next to me, etc. For people who want max immersion and don’t want a bunch of peripherals I think VR is absolutely worth a shot. Maybe you’ll find it more comfortable than I did. Otherwise for the budget conscious I would go with a triple monitor set up of some sort over an ultrawide, likely 32” as you suggest although I haven’t tried that size personally so can’t say for sure. Thanks for the great vids, looking forward to your future content.

I noted that you felt the 65"screens may be slightly to large and slightly too far away for a 1-to-1 feel. What triple display stand are you using that can accommodate 3 x 55" displays? Greatly appreciate the feedback.
I would say that the parallax effect would be a major contributor to the immersion factor with the bigger screens. That and your eyes does notice the focal distance as well with the bigger screens better simulating real life.
Absolutely spot on with the three dimensional effect, I always try to put monitors where the windscreen would be and then create three dimensions by using an iPad for the dash etc. I use triple 24 inch screens at 90cm away, with side angles at about 31 degrees, I don’t see any of the dash on screen hardly but I then create the dash using an iPad. The field of view I get is only about 110 degrees this way, but I much prefer it to putting the centre screen 50 cm away with almost 180 degree FOV. I’ve tried both and the former is way more immersive. My screens are 1920 x 1200 each, but at 90 cm away they are perfectly fine and detailed, in fact they are equivalent of a Retina display at that distance, at 50cm away they look ropey and things just don’t feel right as you say.
Will...thank you for putting in so much time into this content. Very helpful and answering questions that not many people can give first hand perspectives to. I am running both a Vive Pro and an Index but just don't have the space (yet) for triples. I have the same frame rates (roughly) with ACC on my 2080ti. Its one of the main reasons I jump into iRacing so much as it runs so seamlessly in VR. But I also love ACC so my wife may not appreciate this content in a few months. LOL
What do u think about LG CX OLED panels? It has 120Hz, Dolby Vision, HDR 10, (HLG), G-SYNC Compatible, FreeSync. Pls let me know. Also how would 3x 48" of LG CX be for a sim setup. Thanks.
I use VR for Sim racing pretty regularly, but I do also have a 65" TCL I got on BF sale this past TG right in front of the wheel. It is perfect for Forza and other games that don't support VR. The three of them though... looks soooo smooth, I love it!
Awesome setup. I have been thinking about what you said in your other video about how you can't move your perspective around outside of VR, but today I saw a video of a guy using TrackIR. I think you can have it just move your camera's position without rotation. It might be cool to try moving around with that.
Hey, I like the perspectives given in this video - but have you ever considered or looked into TrackIR for tracking head movements in-game? Just curious as it would add another level of immersion to your current 3x 65 inch setup.
Yep I’ve experimented with it. In fact we’re using a trackIr as motion compensation as explained here: ruclips.net/video/7-yTnXUHK7w/видео.html But yeah as head tracking it’s just weird.
@@kobeandgary In games that require 360 degrees or thereabouts of vision such as Elite: Dangerous or DCS / any sort of cockpit simulation you would need TrackIR to be able to look around the cabin / up / down / behind you ect. So it is still applicable depending on the games
Great video - Maybe you commented and I missed it, but one big thing that VR brings through the separate views for each eye is the resulting 3D image and the depth perception that brings. Not a big thing when driving a track you know by "muscle memory", but for me it's a huge differentiator when driving a car/track combo you don't know, and you need to get a feel for the braking and turn-in points.
Around the 16 minute mark you are talking about one of the downsides of triples being that your perspective doesn't change because the camera is fixed on a triple screen setup vs. VR where the in game camera moves as you move your head. I had the same experience when transitioning from VR to triples, and I ended up using the TrackIR5 head tracking device so that the in-game camera would change perspective as I moved my head around the cabin of the car. It works great on my triple 32" setup!
I'm sure you could get by, quite well, with consumer TVs. 3 TCLs or Vizios will provide standard 60/120hz refresh rates, plus calibration settings are readily available from the community. Also HDR isn't a huge added expense. $3k should do it today, and next year the models will offer variable refresh rate for the same price.
I love the effect of the larger screens eliminating the negative space you see with smaller screens but how are you getting a decent frame rate? I’m running an rx 6800 xt on triple 27” screens and am typically averaging around only 90 FPS. But I refuse to turn anything off graphically so I guess that’s my issue. I guess it’s time to learn how to overclock.
Great video mate. I enjoyed it all. You answered a few questions i had plus introduced me to open world AC. Oh and the dual PC fan, blower setup you have, genius.
I would guess the best bang for buck is Reverb G2 + DOF Reality H6. It's not without compromises but will result in really nice simulations. On the plus side you get the best VR display for sim racing + full 6 DOF motion platform. One the minus side that platform is slightly on the slow side and doesn't ability to run 3 monitor setup even in theory. For the cost, nothing can beat it, though.
What if there was a sensor in the cockpit to determine eye position, to adjust view out of the mirrors and even the surroundings? Or does that bring motion sickness due to not being true stereoscopic?
As a VR user another downside to VR I have noticed is when you want to go back to the menus and watch replays. Many of the cameras in iRacing feel zoomed way too far out so I make my own custom cameras. Since VR uses a fixed FOV it over rides my cameras. Additionally to that, when you’re watching replays you can still freely look which is great if you set up a spectator grandstand view, but for other views such as fixed views (broadcast TV views) it kind of takes away from the viewing experience.
I've heard some people describe simming on 65" as feeling like being a tiny person in a massively oversized car ... but I'm not getting that impression at all from my single (65" LG C1) or your triple setup .. The proportions seem spot on. Maybe naysayers are sitting too close or something.
so you can type commands into a keyboard prompt, and PRETEND? i no longer see the appeal in suspending disbelief in the virtual world. racing sims, with real world peripherals give close to 1:1. why stroke keys on a board?
@@seattletyler I think you've got your wires crossed, friend. Elite Dangerous is a (space) flight sim (and can be played with a HOTAS setup), maybe you were thinking of something else?
Once the new VR comes out that has augmented reality and VR mixed together, so u can see ur real life steering wheel and arms augemented into the VR headset, then triples will be truly useless, the VR experience will be perfect then and cost way less. I forgot the companies name, but they already have it working on there VR headset prototypes and it will release in the next few years. That huge VR channel made a video on it, think it was called the best VR headset ever or something.
Thanks Will and I love your setup. Just a comment about fov in vr. My experience as a former kart, bike and car racer is that the fov I get in my Quest 2 vr headset is similar to wearing a full face helmet. It could be argued therefore that this is more realistic.
I agree, this does look great for immersion. I think VR still might be better though but it'd be great of monitor's like this were 3D too because then in that case I think it would be a little be better than VR possibly just because you can still see your own wheel and everything but that's yet to be seen.
What vr headset do you use? Found the quest 2 to just not look as good as I’d want as well as for some reason a 5950x/3090 not getting full 90fps for some reason
I have a wall mounted 65" and my eye distance is exactly what yours is... 1.2- 1.3 meters. What is the height of your center TV? Aligned with maybe the bottom of your steering wheel?
I’m still trying to calculate this out. Fov calculators say that 65 inch screens for proper 180 degree fov they should be like 80 something cm away. That seems too far away and you have 45 degree angles but the calculator states you should have it around 80 degrees or so. I plan on doing this amateur with 40 something inc monitors and I am wanting to achieve 180 degree resolution but the fov calculator everyone recommends seems to place the screens pretty far back and angled always around 60 degrees. So I guess I’m asking would that be right and feel correct when sitting in front or is the fov calculator better suited for smaller triple screen setups?
This game looked great on my rtx 2070 super, now that I have my rtx 3080, I was trying to decide either a triple screen setup or a VR setup... this gives me some info to help me further decide. Thanks!
That’s IF you can wear or tolerate VR. Having tried it that’s a bold broad statement. I wear glasses, spent the money on corrective inserts and was disappointed in the quality and experience. Running a 3950 and 2080Ti so not like hardware is the issue. If you can enjoy it it’s impressive but I wouldn’t say it’s the ultimate.
@@bobbymccourt6794 VR is definitely uncomfortable at first, but stick with it. Setup a fan that blows on you. Start with short sessions of 15-20min. This will help. It's not going to work comfortably out the box. Unlike 2D gaming, you need to train for VR. When you do, the benefits far outstrip anything else.
Your setup is da sheet, reminds me of my former build with 3 ACER 5360 Beamers that gave me a fantastic immersion back then. Now I am hooked on VR with a Quest 2. You mentioned the downsides that come with having a Headset in front of your eyes, but if you are a fan of coming close to realism, once you tried a good VR Setup its veeery hard to go back to screens. I think future generations of Headsets with eye-tracking will make racing more and more perfect, or even wait for proper AR to bring your real gear into the picture, we will see... I even saw a review of a VR Headset (Varjo XR3) with additional OLEDs, Eye-tracking and AR-Cameras build in, but its not affordable. Maybe get yourself one and make a review how that beast works in simracing? Besides that, i really dig the content you make, really professional stuff and tons of useful informations
Those little details from moving head in VR regarding POV & mirrors .. you forgot TrackIR(obviously preferably with their new wireless clip). Problem i'm seeing though .. i'd find fixed POV of tripple screens more immersive, as car's interior is realistically fixed to physical wheel/shifter and such, and that bit of dynamic reflection in mirrors being not THAT important to pay for that with car interior "moving/skewing/shaking around" physical sim-wheel. Would be nice, if vendors had released 50-55" 2K screens instead of stopping at 32" for that resolution. That should immediately cut 3-4x times display cost, and with card like 3090 one might even run everything w/o turning image quality down (which in current setup offsets quite a lot gain from 3x4K resolution). I'm even guessing that 3x2K at maximum graphics quality might be better then 3x4K with low settings (until -4-090 cards are released :)), and obviously better then 3xFHD.
How big of a 'immersion' change would it be for you if you spent a day running your rig with the screens running at 2920x1080 as opposed to 4k which may be easier to attain fiscally both in tv's/monitors not to mention computer hardware? Watching this video reminded me very much of driving 2300 km's for a vacation years ago.
Apparently alot of people talk of a narrow field of view with the G2 despite great resolution where as with the valve index you can glance around the screen without moving your head as much as for screen door there are some people where their brains always see the screen door and can't get past it. VR surprisingly isn't for all. Good review Will but you need to try a valve index aswell. That being said who wouldn't want this setup :-)
I recently purchased a prebuilt PC with a 1660 super and an Oculus Quest 2 for just under a grand all in. A third of the price of one of these monitors. It's not perfect, I have to turn the graphic settings way down to achieve a stable 90fps, and things are a little blurry in the distance to boot. But the immersion is incredible, first time I drove LA Canyon I instinctively tried to hit my blinker at the first intersection I came too. Triples just don't compare in my opinion. Excited to see where the tech is in a few years from now, quality is going up and prices are coming down.
I love the idea of 50" triple screens I don't think I would need a 120 hertz or 4k. I know i because i will be sitting so close I will definitely notice a difference in pixel quality but as far as price to performance im going to try that. Plus I got a 50 inch sitting around in storage. Can't wait to try this
Hey Will ...I have finally got my 3 screen system running ...I used the "hack" you showed us to configure the custom resolution. However; every time I get a Windows 10 update ...all my 3 screen settings revert to the little monitor I use for menus. It is plugged into the HDMI port & set as my main monitor ...I do this to free up space taken by the task bar on the bottom of the 3 screens. I use the "Simple Runtime Window Editor" app for sizing & resolution on the 3 screen setup & all that info reverts to suit the little monitor! How can I stop Windows updates from doing this ...how do I save those settings?
Is there any way to incorporate head tracking using a kinect 2 or similar in 3d tvs to get adaptive camera posioning and stereoscopic vision? I'm thinking of something similar to BAM for future pinball cabinets. Also, wouldn't projectors over a curved screen help by eliminating the joint between monitors? What sort of response time can be achieved with projector?
You said VR is generating two perspectives but isn't triple screen generating 3 if the game is accounting for angled side panels? Or is it just an easy mathematic transform to the side thirds of the generated 11520x2160 image?
What is your opinion on Quest 2 for sim racing on a budget? If I'm not wrong, they are a little blurry at the distance, but I heard they do the job quite well.

LOL
Sick setup mate! Ozzie represent! Subbed
When the video started autoplay , I thought he was in an actual car lol , took me a while to read the title.and adjust the visuals of my eyes
Hey, I like the perspectives given in this video - but have you ever considered or looked into TrackIR for tracking head movements in-game? Just curious as it would add another level of immersion to your current 3x 65 inch setup.
TrackIr in this setup would definitely hurt instead of helping. He already has much more peripheral view than he needs, anyway
Yep I’ve experimented with it. In fact we’re using a trackIr as motion compensation as explained here: ruclips.net/video/7-yTnXUHK7w/видео.html
But yeah as head tracking it’s just weird.
I can't see any use for head tracking in this setup.
@@kobeandgary In games that require 360 degrees or thereabouts of vision such as Elite: Dangerous or DCS / any sort of cockpit simulation you would need TrackIR to be able to look around the cabin / up / down / behind you ect. So it is still applicable depending on the games
I dont know how your vga can run games that smooth at 11.520x2160 resolution. Thats CRAZY, even for a 3090
Great video - Maybe you commented and I missed it, but one big thing that VR brings through the separate views for each eye is the resulting 3D image and the depth perception that brings. Not a big thing when driving a track you know by "muscle memory", but for me it's a huge differentiator when driving a car/track combo you don't know, and you need to get a feel for the braking and turn-in points.
Yep definitely talked about that.
A thing where VR misses the mark is peripheral vision, where a setup like in the video allows you to do it.
I thought you were in a real car at first. This is incredible!!! Do you mind if I ask what game your playing?
what game and track is it?
@@asimrc Assetto Corsa mod track
I love the effect of the larger screens eliminating the negative space you see with smaller screens but how are you getting a decent frame rate? I’m running an rx 6800 xt on triple 27” screens and am typically averaging around only 90 FPS. But I refuse to turn anything off graphically so I guess that’s my issue. I guess it’s time to learn how to overclock.
how can your GPU handle 3 x 4k displays ??
Holy crap!! Fantastic, man!!
Great video mate. I enjoyed it all. You answered a few questions i had plus introduced me to open world AC.
Oh and the dual PC fan, blower setup you have, genius.
Awesome! thanks for taking the time to share
Additionally to that, when you’re watching replays you can still freely look which is great if you set up a spectator grandstand view, but for other views such as fixed views (broadcast TV views) it kind of takes away from the viewing experience.
holy crap the scene of speed is nuts... looks like im going hungry for next few months
I've heard some people describe simming on 65" as feeling like being a tiny person in a massively oversized car ... but I'm not getting that impression at all from my single (65" LG C1) or your triple setup .. The proportions seem spot on. Maybe naysayers are sitting too close or something.
Bro, that is amaaazing! Keep it up. I''ll sub instantly.
what game do you use? i am looking for a good open world racing game and this looks really fun to drive around the mountains
I want... no NEED a setup like this for Elite Dangerous, dayum.
so you can type commands into a keyboard prompt, and PRETEND? i no longer see the appeal in suspending disbelief in the virtual world. racing sims, with real world peripherals give close to 1:1. why stroke keys on a board?
@@seattletyler I think you've got your wires crossed, friend. Elite Dangerous is a (space) flight sim (and can be played with a HOTAS setup), maybe you were thinking of something else?
@@darkora_ no, he just doesn't what a HOTAS is and how many consumer products exist for flight sims
Awesome job mate! keep it up! :D
Yeah it really depends on the headset. My reverb G1 and 2 are both more restricted than a helmet.
That's stunning. I'm envious.
Wow, for a few seconds I was genuinely wondering if you were in an actual car. Really cool!
Dam it be rad to have a sim rig like this
I agree, this does look great for immersion. I think VR still might be better though but it'd be great of monitor's like this were 3D too because then in that case I think it would be a little be better than VR possibly just because you can still see your own wheel and everything but that's yet to be seen.
Next will be Top Gear style road car tests... this looks bonkers man.
Doesn't the VR headset mimic the view out of racing helmet where you would have to move your head to see the mirrors?
as a drifter..VR is superior in every way.
There is no substitute for 3d stereo vision
Thanks!
VR best option next is this setup.
As your passenger, your driving is Scaring me Mate!!! Lol...🍻
Lmao!
Yeah dude, crossing all those double yellows? Gave me mini heart attacks every time.
@@dobsonmartin LOL!!🤣🤣
Steering wheel on the wrong side, this is scaring me the most.
How can it be on the wrong side when it’s in the middle?
When you passed the litte trueno i was like wait pull over flag him down...have a chat..then i remembered you're in a sim
Appreciate all the info, super informative
3 screen is parfait but for me, VR is Fantastic you are in the race whit VR not beside it. Good video you get thumbs up
I thought you were in a real car..... damn.... bet the feeling is good cruising on a highway
Can't wait to try this
Matching panels to existing screens might be difficult.
Wow!!! Absolutely incredible 👏
I use the "Simple Runtime Window Editor" app
for sizing & resolution on the 3 screen setup & all that info reverts to suit the little monitor! How can I stop Windows updates from doing this ...how do I save those settings?
Ever think a center curved monitor with left & right tlat would be more immersion?
Were you able to get Gsync working on the triple 65 inch TV’s? If so, how? Thanks, I love your channel!
We did this a few months ago..... ruclips.net/video/7-yTnXUHK7w/видео.html
You said VR is generating two perspectives but isn't triple screen generating 3 if the game is accounting for angled side panels? Or is it just an easy mathematic transform to the side thirds of the generated 11520x2160 image?
What about using LG's high refresh OLED 4K screens? Can you run ACC with the 2080ti with that much resolution?
What is your opinion on Quest 2 for sim racing on a budget?
If I'm not wrong, they are a little blurry at the distance, but I heard they do the job quite well.
