Thanks for discussing suicide - that and other mental health problems need to be talked about. Especially by men. Especially by the "man's man" kind of guys. Lets have that conversation. Suicide has touched my life - someone I knew - an amazing guy with everything going for him - or so I thought. Anyway thanks for bringing this up.

The scariest part about suicide is the fact that you truly think it would be less painful than being alive. On top of that, the people who tell everyone may actually be depressed but are unlikely to kill themselves, they are searching for help (which is a good thing for them) but the people who stay in private with their thoughts and plans and do not tell anyone, are more likely to commit the act.

I love the two things they talked about people don’t quite grasp about depression. The first is the distorted thinking. I can't imagine putting that pain and grief on my parents but once their gone I'm nervous what I might do if I'm not off heroin by that time. A lot of times I have no will to keep moving forward.

I love the flossing argument. It's just like how you can't eat "just one chip." Once you get started, you want more. You want to complete the process. You want to floss your molars. You want to finish the bag. You want to get your life back together.
To be "the prince" , or not to be "the prince"? THAT is the question. Is it better (more noble) to be the rich prince, and suffer through the problems of being wealthy, or to kill ones self? That sounds like "rich guy problems", which is what I think Shakespeare was getting at.
Says he won’t do musashi. Says nope. Then episode 100. Regardless who knows (I actually am from the future. I am doing the 50/80/100 so I’m excited to hear what happens here.)
1:26:53 - Tim makes direct eye contact with Jocko across the table. He's thinking: "What I'm gonna say next will probably floor Jocko. He might reach across the table and slap the crazy out of me." ... chicken training course. (Jocko's eyes go wide)

If you study great men, you’ll notice this pattern: they have usually suffered extreme sufferings. Abandonment, imprisonment, persecution, injury, illness, torture, and/or mental illness. Suffering must be a valuable commodity or this would not be so. I really hope everyone suffering knows not only are they not alone, but if they endure they will discover suffering can be some of the most meaningful improvement you ever run across. You are not a burden at these times, you are a gift to humankind in the making.
When one dies, one is part of everything, all religious theories aside for the moment. Being part of Everything must be better than being separated from Everything! Just personal speculation!

Although I do not condemn those that have taken there LIVES. Only God knows why and what they were suffering from to reach that point. Love u brother
Great episode. Tim is like a glorified Swiss knife 🔪
He might reach across the table and slap the crazy out of me."
... chicken training course.
(Jocko's eyes go wide)
Ive searched for something that motivates me to do the stuff i want to do! Doing regular sport like jogging and stuff!
Jocko Willink is the first person on this planet who managed to fucking get me motivated!!!
Everytime i hear him, i go running, regardless the weather, if its dark and rainy and cold, fuck it! I just fucking do it! And i always feel so good after i have done it.
Thank you Jocko.
That will hopefully be the first step for me.
The gems I've found were forged in the struggle
If you study great men, you’ll notice this pattern: they have usually suffered extreme sufferings. Abandonment, imprisonment, persecution, injury, illness, torture, and/or mental illness. Suffering must be a valuable commodity or this would not be so. I really hope everyone suffering knows not only are they not alone, but if they endure they will discover suffering can be some of the most meaningful improvement you ever run across. You are not a burden at these times, you are a gift to humankind in the making.
What a great episode it has everything: deep content, practical tips and even a few laughs... Thanks for this great content
When one dies, one is part of everything, all religious theories aside for the moment. Being part of Everything must be better than being separated from Everything! Just personal speculation!
Your podcast is a conversation with my inner self.
ABOUT FACE was a fantastic window into the experience of being in some very heavy stuff!
You guys should get Henry Rollins on the Podcast. I heard him mentioned, and I've seen him talk about deep things.

As Robert O'Neil said about Seal Training, if you want to quit, do it tomorrow!
That was some strong stuff. I didn't think Tim went through something like that.
