this is the second video i see from you. I like the observations you make about why the paint failed. Keep practicing the polishing. I usually tell my students, the thing you don't like doing is the thing you should learn the best. So if they dont like polishing, I encourage them to learn it better.
Man brother your video is great. It has tons of information and the fact that you break down everything makes it easy to understand for a newbie like me who is interested in this field . Thanks for such an informational video brother keep them coming.
I do Collision Repair for a living and so many shops will NOT paint a bumper. Ill do it on the side, and have a similar process as what you did. Yes most definitely read your TDS. You can save some money on the scuff paste and just use some commet cleaning stuff from the bathroom. It'll also clean it at the same time.
Great job. You motivated me from the first videos, to start stripping down my '93 Flareside. Engine, trans, frame. The only mistake I can see was the pronunciation. It is pronounced Pasagetdowndena. I grew up on Main and Jackson many moons ago, right across from the old Jackson intermediate. Boy doing global award winning paint jobs in the backyard.
Keeping budget in mind a few cans of self etching primer on the rear bumper would help promote paint adhesion since it EP isn’t meant to be painted directly onto
Truck came out clean asf CUH😩 🔥you inspired me to paint my own 1987 cutlass, I’m getting everything you recommend little by little, each pay check Also, keep it the work, your editing and video quality is going crazy I live close to Pasadena so, hope to see you riding around in the obs (catch me in the cutlass)
And that's how we all learn to do stuff, Damn I love RUclips, your truck, your Girl, Your Beautiful paint job, my Sir. My Hats off to you, Well done.........................👍
I’m glad you used adhesion promoter. But anything that was plastic or “ready to paint” stuff that you just scuffed should’ve been primer sealed. Sealer doesn’t only help with basecoat coverage, it helps adhesion of topcoats. It’s also good insurance to lock down any body work that could’ve been underneath like on the rear bumper. I personally would’ve used sealer on everything. Another thing I’d like to point out is that I personally would’ve used 2k primer surfacer over your body work on the rear bumper. Some epoxy primers are meant to go over bare metal and bare metal only. That epoxy you used doesn’t have the build a primer surfacer would’ve and as time goes on I bet the body work will map out through the paint. Epoxy over bare metal, scuff wherever you’re gonna used body filler. Apply body filler to all the low spots. Block it all out, if you have small areas that went to bare metal you can use some self etching primer, and then spray 2k primer surfacer. 3 good coats gives you plenty of material to get rid of small waves in body work. I would block out with 320/400, then run a da sander with a soft interface pad and 600 over everything real quick. 400 grit is too aggressive in my opinion if you’re going straight into paint. Sealer will cover 320/400 but If you’re gonna skip sealer, go to 600 on solid colors 800 on metallics. This will prevent sand scratch swelling in the future. Good luck man, fellow paint guy here. You’ll be a beast in a year or 2 more of doing it
Amazing content and such little subscribers you deserve more. Similar techniques are done in aersospace for painting and structural bonding. Surface prep surface prep surface prep
I just ran a crossed your channel, The truck looks awesome. What a great color. I'm getting ready to paint my 1996 Harley Road king. That's every bit of a $3500.00 paint job. I live in the Great state of Texas also. West Texas. Are you buying your paint's, apoxy, etc on line? Great video man.
Super great job !! 👏👍I m going to bring , my 1997 silverado to you ; I wish you leave close . Disassembly of separate parts is the way to do it , auto shops , charge a lot for slappy quick shity work . Because they do flat rate bullshit they charge way a lot for shity work ; plus they only do insurance work . Way to do it bro !!! Congratullations !!!
After you sand a mess up like that spray it with wax and grease to check it. I’ve had plenty of times where I thought it was feathered out enough and it wasn’t.
Id pay double for my single cab no 2 tone. It does need some body work on the cab corner. Maybe if it was just a respray, if it needs body work id say charge more
I got a rear bumper ready to paint but it did come with a small dent. I am going to go head and add filler. Would I have to sand the surrounding area to bare metal and then add my bondo? And sand it smooth and add primer?

You can sand your basecoat to get rid of bits of trash if needed. let the basecoat dry appropriately given whatever temps your area may have.
Glad your channel popped up on me list. Well worth the time and money you invested. Looks awesome 👏
