Invest in dental care!! Didn’t figure that out until after my gum line started receding and that can only be fixed with surgery…
Mouthwash. Good floss. Pro-enamel toothpaste. An electronic toothbrush if you can afford it, or if not, regularly replace yours.
Dental care is very expensive and often not covered by medical insurance. This is no joke.

I let family give gifts to my kids if they want to. My husband’s family enjoys it. When inviting my kids’ friends or my husband and my friends to a birthday celebration I write “no gifts please” on the invitation. Some people still bring a gift but it really cuts down on the amount of stuff that accumulates in our house.

Lol they’re not corporate, can’t expect orange juice out of a lemon squeeze. At my small business I give my employees 2 weeks payed vacation and 2 weeks for emergencies or things that don’t need to be explained to me because I trust my employees enough not to need an explanation about everything. At a corporation you are just a number on a page rather than a human, much more disposable that way, much less empathy towards the employees

I'd add dental stuff in particular. Paying for a cleaning twice a year, getting a good electric toothbrush, and regular checkups all take money but you really only get one set of teeth and gums and it can really compromise the quality of your life if something happens to them.

As someone who had to pay $5,000 for a dental implant over the last year due to a crack in the root of my tooth that couldn't be repaired, I fully agree with this. My surrounding teeth have shifted and eating is no longer quite as enjoyable as before. I'm now trying to save up in case Invisalign can help, even though I already had braces as a kid. Respectfully disagreeing as a twenty something... all these things are important to start as _soon_ as you can claim yourself as an independent on taxes, _not_ once you're 30! These are all longevity, self-care, and social happiness items. Very important to start early so these don't all feel like "catch up"... yes, your budget will be smaller in your 20s but the proportions of your budget shouldn't have to entirely shift as soon as you start to feel "old". Minus the spending on kids, that's another story.

I grew up in a low-income working class community and I’m thankful for all the adults who had the disposable income to buy me treats, books, and take me to places like museums and movies. Pooling together resources to give children experiences and cultural capital their parents otherwise couldn’t afford is awesome all around. As they say with raising kids, it takes a village!

I really appreciate the mention of blood tests. Do NOT feel guilty about spending money on going to the doctor. My personal health journey has been a lot more complicated than that of other 20-somethings, but I'm able to help myself live a long life by going to the doctor and getting those blood tests when the doctor orders them. No, spending money on other people's kids assumes you live in a certain community. You should have a total budget for friends and a total budget for each family member. I live in a city where many aren't married with kids by their 30s, or even 40s. Maybe your family members also didn't decide to have kids or you're not related to many kids. Friends with kids don't deserve more of your budget for their choices. 😉

The gifts is one that is always a budget buster unless you plan ahead. Even just saving $20/month for holidays can make a difference.
We have specific dollar amounts for family and our kids that we follow. We keep a tracking list on a planner of when birthdays are and holidays so we know when the money will be needed and how much to have set aside for it.

Not that I am getting pushback on my purchase: things to make our home a haven, but this video is still uplifting. The YT Premium is especially affirming. I see my friends patiently wait for the ads to stop when they're showing me something and I'm like, let's just scrub to the good parts already! (Not your videos, I watch them from start to finish).

Other people's children is other people's choice and pocket. Of course a gift here and there is fine and expected, but going out of your way to actually meticulously plan and budget for that sounds a bit too much.

Idk, budgeting for gifts is perfectly normal. I budget for adult gifts why not kid gifts?

    • @georginakaraoli8220
      @georginakaraoli8220 2 года назад +1

@@marzipan2555 same as with adults depends how close you are with the parents/children. Like a friend of mine who recently became a mother told me she didn't like how people now only gift something for her child even on her bday. She felt marginalised and that becoming a mother doesn't mean you are not still your own person (that is especially true for women where i come from - Mediterranean Europe)

When you get the blood test, make sure the doctor get the results of your hormone levels and explain it all to you too. I went through that personally. I got my results from the hospital database and the doctor didn't explain anything too me, so I relied on Google to tell me what the things on the results were and I made adjustments to my lifestyle choices. When I was in school, learning aspects of case management, it stated that as well. Learn how to advocate for yourself

PSA if you own a house in a cold climate like Canada, the small room humidifiers will not cut it. We’re getting a furnace humidifier installed at our house this week to combat the 15% humidity levels in our townhouse where we are constantly running 2 room humidifiers. This will be the best money I spend this year for my family’s comfort plus they last 10+ years.

I definitely relate to the whole "feel like your body is falling apart" thing. After my third child was born, I constantly felt like my body was falling apart. I could barely lift my child, my back was in constant agony, and a was getting injured easily. It turns out that I *was* falling apart: I had a three finger width diastisis recti and no functional core strength, so other muscles in my body were compensating, causing me to be in constant pain. Thankfully I found The Tummy Team (I am not affiliated) and through one of their online courses was able to close my diastisis and regain my functional core strength. Turns out that years of poor parenting posture had exacerbated diastisis caused by pregnancy. Good posture is so important! So what I mean to say with this story is that if you feel as though your body is falling apart, listen to what it is telling you. It means something is wrong, but treatment is available.

when you hunch over, you are engaging your trap muscles which leads to overactive traps. to counteract this, try stretching/exercising the back muscles - rear delts, lower back (erector spinae) really helps with correcting posture!!

The fact that you can legally not take paid time off is savage. Where I live it's illegal and HR have to force people to take their pto if they don't. There are also rules that once a year you should take one or two full weeks in a row to actually take a real break. Not sure how mandatory that one is but most employers have that rule.
Labor laws are a good thing! The US should also get more of those...

It’s terrible! They give you time off, but you have to make sure everything gets done while you’re off, aka working. So it’s impossible to take it at some companies. I’m looking for an employer that lets you actually disconnect.
