Good morning , I'm new to your channel And I just wanted to say How much I've enjoyed This video. I am a 76 year-old grandma who has been sewing since I was 8. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in about your teaching quality And expertise . I hope all the new quilters will appreciate How Perfectly The blocks come together. I have taught all my grandchildren to quilt. It is the best hobby there is and a skill that lasts a lifetime. Thanks for your great Program.
Thank you! That is such a compliment. I am so happy to hear when we quilters are passing on our skills to the "youngsters". Keep up the good work! Enjoy!
I agree with many, your instructions are very concise and many good hints and reminders about care with those pesky stretchy diagonals! Love this cutie!!
Excellent process with detailed instruction. I wouldn't have tried this block without your guidance. And I will make this block without feeling anxious.
What fun! Pressing the block joining seams to the right in the first row of blocks, left in second row (alternating) helps me nest the rows. So glad you mentioned cutting into the selvages.
A friend of mine recommended that when working w/ bias edge blocks to run a basting stitch around the block which also stabilizes the block. It adds time to the construction, but if I start a project and don't get back to it for awhile, it protects the integrity of the fabric.
This looks like a fun project! I have a mountain of fabric so I will cut my own strips. I agree with you about using spray starch. I too use the Faultless instead of Mary Ellens.
I have to say, I tried the Faultless for availability and price, but now... I just love it! Glad to find someone who agrees with me! And Yes, curating your own strip sets will make this even more fun! Welcome Aboard!

I agree with you! And, I thought the denim color really accented the country feel. I would use this for any picnic outing or otherwise. Thanks for watching! Enjoy!
We all do these things differently, but my motto of press, press and press again seems to 9 out of 10 times get that extra "scooch more" that is needed. Especially that center fold line. Just my personal hint and I love your tutorial!!
As a new quilter I have been burned by the variations in WOF, variations in fat quarters, and flaws in precuts. Considering the price of fabric it is very frustrating, but the emphasis this video puts on carefully checking the WOF measurement before you start is good.
Thankyou for sharing your video lovely quilting, and fabrics would love to purchase some of those fabrics, but unfortunately I live in Australia 🦘🌏 and the postage would probably be more expensive than the fabrics, cheers 🥂
I know! it is unfortunate. International shipping is so expensive. You should be able to find this line "Sunshine and Chamomile" from a store or online shop in Australia! The manufacturer is Poppie Cotton. AND the pattern is free on their website, under the "FREE" tab. Good Luck!
could I cut 8 inches from the jelly roll to get 5 rectangles?Just subscribed and would like to order jelly roll and pattern but need to be able to cut 8 inches instead of 8-1/2
@brendasweeney2806 cutting 8 inches isn't going to make it bigger as it only leaves 2.5 inches left on each strip and won't leave enough for another 8 inch cut to make extra blocks
4 - 2.5 inch strips sewn long side together is 8.5 inches wide. The pattern tells you to make a square, sew sides around the edges and cut in four triangles. To make a 8 inch square you need to square up the block to 8” before sewing all around the edges.
I think if you cut all your strips 8 inches and proceed. Your blocks will turn out 1/2 inch smaller, and those center triangles will be tiny. That might be un-manageable. If you have some scraps. Give it a try and see.
Your fellow quilters have had some excellent advice! @lcsd863 is quite right: You can cut your strips 8", but you will have to square up your block width to 8" as well. This will make the side triangles quite small. If you don't care about that, then go for it! @alyrobbins5399 also makes a good suggestion: grab some scraps and give it a try before cutting into a beautiful jelly roll. Just for clarity @ceciliaschleicher278 is correct! Cutting the pieces 8" will not give you enough to cut an extra 8" piece. If you are wanting to make it bigger, you just need to add more strips or fat quarters to get more blocks. Is there a particular reason you need to make it 8"? Maybe there is another solution I can make. Welcome Aboard!
Since you squared up your blocks, when you sewed the blocks together there shouldn’t be an overlap of material. Meaning, the blocks should line up perfectly and there shouldn’t be material on the bottom or top that is a little extra. I hope this makes sense.
I am not familiar with that pattern, but as always, "everything old is new again", I am sure there are many names to this quilt. Barn Door is what the pattern maker called it. Enjoy!

@user-mf3td9iw6f Thank you for your question! You need 40 - 2.5" x WOF (width of fabric) strips. Double check the length of the strip before cutting, it is important that you can get 5 - 8.5" pieces out of the strip. Some fabrics are not wide enough, in that case you may need to add a couple Fat Quarters to get enough pieces to make the 50 - 4 piece strip blocks required to make this quilt. If you are cutting pieces out of yardage, instead of strips, you need a total of 200 2.5" x 8.5" pieces to make enough blocks for a 52" square quilt top. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions, if needed. Thank you for watching!
Hello! I am glad you enjoyed this quick quilt! The pattern is actually a FREE pattern that you can download from www.PoppieCotton.Com, however, I am offering to print the pattern for you with a purchase of the Sunshine & Chamomile 2.5" Rolo from my shoppe: www.TheQuiltersCandyShoppe.com There is also a full kit available if you are interested. I hope you give this pattern a try, it is fast and fun! Enjoy!
May I ask, why not sew 4 strips together and then subcut? Just wondering as I see so many people do this to save time. I applaud you cutting all those strips! 😊
Yes! That is a great way to go! But, the pattern was written to be very random and scrappy; Yet, because they got re-scrambled in the next step, it could work. However, where we could run into an issue is because there was barely enough fabric in the strips to cut the pieces; it is likely you wouldn't be able to get the 5-8.5" cuts. So, I still recommend the single cuts (stacked strips) especially working with this particular Jelly Roll. If using a jelly roll that measures 43" inside the selvedge, the technique you mentioned would save time. Enjoy!
@@TheQuiltersCandyShoppe ~ yes, watching you cut the strips was extremely beneficial to anyone sewing this pattern as there is but a millimeter to spare on the length of fabric! With my measuring and cutting skill, I’ll be adding lots of fabric quarters! ;)
Hi! Yes! It is called a "thread saver" or some people call it a "cotton tail" LOL! It is very useful for a couple purposes. *First is to do exactly what is called, to save thread. Instead of pulling your pieces off after you have sewn, and leaving so much thread pulled off, you and just sew this piece through and leave it under your presser foot so you can cut off your pieces with out wasting thread. Just use a scrap; I suggest that it is two thicknesses, so it is the same as what you are sewing. *Second, it is a great "chain marker" for when you are assembly line sewing so you know what is the beginning or end of your chain of patches. *Third, if you have trouble with points from sewing triangles, being pushed down into your needle hole/feed dogs, this little bit of fabric helps stop that by letting your sewing be seamless from the "thread saver" to the piecing. If you have anymore questions on it, I would be happy to answer them. email me at: thequilterscandyshoppe@gmail.com I hope that helped! Carrie
Correct! That measure needs to be within the selvedges. Cotton printed goods vary in width these days, from as little as 40" to 43", so you have to be careful. Thanks for watching!
You can print the pattern for free without a purchase by going to www.poppiecotton.com. Click on the "free tab" and scroll to the bottom of the page. If you wanted a jelly roll, they are currently sold out, but I have a shipment coming next week. This will be the last shipment as Poppie Cotton is sold out and is not reprinting this fabric collection, anymore. You can go to my website: www.thequilterscandyshoppe.com and "PRE-ORDER" a jelly roll and it will ship as soon as it comes in, and you will receive a printed pattern with the purchase. I hope this helps! Enjoy!
Wow! This seems like the cuts are SO picky. If you make a slight mistake in measuring the games over. I would say this is an easy looking quilt, but you need to be an expert cutter to pull it off.
Don't let it intimidate you. If you cut singly and followed my example, it really is simple. You just have to take your time. it is worth it; it turned out so cute! I'll have more ideas coming up that aren't so finicky, keep your eye out! Enjoy!
@@EllenBishop-ms8bl One jelly roll will make the 51” square. If you use 2 jelly rolls you will get a substantially larger top. For this pattern the 5” squares aren’t going to help as you need 8.5” pieces. You can find the pattern for free on Poppie Cotton’s website, under the “FREE” tab, and at the bottom of the page. I hope that answers your question. If not please feel free to contact me: thequilterscandyshoppe@gmail.com

Super ❤
Thank you! Enjoy!
As a new quilter I have been burned by the variations in WOF, variations in fat quarters, and flaws in precuts. Considering the price of fabric it is very frustrating, but the emphasis this video puts on carefully checking the WOF measurement before you start is good.
Thank you, Me too!
Welcome Aboard!
I was waiting for you to pick those strips up and Pat them not place, in my head that’s exactly what I would do in that situation!♥️👍😎
LOL! Its funny the things we do, we don't really think about! LOL
Welcome Aboard!
Good Luck!
@@TheQuiltersCandyShoppe thankyou I will look it up ,cheers 🥂
could I cut 8 inches from the jelly roll to get 5 rectangles?Just subscribed and would like to order jelly roll and pattern but need to be able to cut 8 inches instead of 8-1/2
Are you trying to use the fabric up
I think I would like to use the 8” too
It will just be bigger I think.
Welcome Aboard!
merci d'avoir regarde!
Since you squared up your blocks, when you sewed the blocks together there shouldn’t be an overlap of material. Meaning, the blocks should line up perfectly and there shouldn’t be material on the bottom or top that is a little extra. I hope this makes sense.
Yes, exactly. Thank you for watching!
Is this pattern also called “Hidden Wells”? 🤔
I am not familiar with that pattern, but as always, "everything old is new again", I am sure there are many names to this quilt. Barn Door is what the pattern maker called it.
Enjoy!
Do you have a link to your shop please
Click on “More” under the title; scroll down to the bottom and click on the name of the shop. 😊 Or, the web site is in the beginning of the video.

Yes! You can definitely do this project, completely out of scraps!
@rachel loves to quilt. I will purchase this! Love the colors but please tell me how to get the pattern to make this!
Enjoy!
❤️❤️❤️
Awe... Thank you!
With my measuring and cutting skill, I’ll be adding lots of fabric quarters! ;)
Would you mind explaining what that little piece of cotton material is for? You saidvthread saver?
Hi!
If you have anymore questions on it, I would be happy to answer them.
email me at: thequilterscandyshoppe@gmail.com
I hope that helped! Carrie
@@TheQuiltersCandyShoppe thank you for the explanation
8.5 x 5 is 42.5 inches needed
Correct! That measure needs to be within the selvedges. Cotton printed goods vary in width these days, from as little as 40" to 43", so you have to be careful. Thanks for watching!
I tried to find the jelly roll on your web sire for the FREE pattern, but couldn’t find it. Is this an old video 😮?
You can print the pattern for free without a purchase by going to www.poppiecotton.com. Click on the "free tab" and scroll to the bottom of the page.
If you wanted a jelly roll, they are currently sold out, but I have a shipment coming next week. This will be the last shipment as Poppie Cotton is sold out and is not reprinting this fabric collection, anymore. You can go to my website:
www.thequilterscandyshoppe.com and "PRE-ORDER" a jelly roll and it will ship as soon as it comes in, and you will receive a printed pattern with the purchase.
Enjoy!
Does that make an 8in. square
It should be an 8 1/2" square

i have 2 Jelly Rolls what pattern should I use also 5 inch squares
@@EllenBishop-ms8bl
One jelly roll will make the 51” square.
