This video really got me started in tying steelhead flies. I really enjoy modifying the recipe and trying new things with it but, I probably have about a dozen hobo speys at all times that follow this recipe to the T.
Agreed but you were making minute adjustments measuring with the scissors, and while it's useful to use the scissors for a caliper, can't really get onboard with such a finicky procedure for an otherwise quick and dirty fly. Either way though, it's still a good instructional vid. One can eyeball that loop just fine.
@@Taylor_in_Southern_Oregon thanks. In the 101 series I wanted to be as specific as possible, for the brand new tier to hopefully answer all thier questions.
Super helpful, and I think the most accurate video/recipe for the Hoboh I've seen (which always surprises me given it's popularity.)
Thanks Patrick!

very nice , thank you.
Great Tie!! Thank you for making more videos!!
Got a vice for Christmas. This is gonna be the first fly I tie.
Congratulations! Let us know if we can help!
I find it easier to fold the trailing wire back towards the eye to get the length.
Beatiful fly!
Great fly, wished I would have came by your shop when I was in Portland last week.
beautiful like always !
Is there any reason you cannot simply remove the hook until you're done with the fly?
You can, for sure, but keeping the hook on helps with measuring porpotions.
My wife herd the music and asked if I was watching "endless summer" again
Played it in the shop last week as a matter of fact, lol
That much effort on measuring the fireline loop? Waste of time. Just make sure it's long enough to remove/replace hook.
The length is important to ensure that a wild fish doesn't get hooked in the gill rakers. Too long and you will needlessly kill wild fish.

Don't get me wrong though, you're high up on my list of content creators for fly tying. You're doing just fine, thank you
